    [MOD] LEGO Barracuda Bay MOD

Hello. It's been some time since I last posted in this forum, but I'm back with a new-ish creation. Last spring I was able to snag the LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay set, mostly for the build of the updated Black Seas Barracuda. However, once the Dark Shark is separated from the build, it leaves behind a very sad-looking planks and timbers on a sandbar. So, I got the idea to put together some new structures onto the old shell. The result: The Barracuda Bay Trading Post. The new structures are almost entirely composed of timber facades, but the foliage provided from the original Barracuda Bay set allowed for some variety in the build. A look outside the rebuilt Jose's Inn, with the notorious highwayman Brick Turpin looking for some easy cash. On the other side is Rosie's Supply Shack. Dangling from the roof is a customer who wouldn't pay, and the guy who came before him hanging a little ways away. On top of Jose's is an old field cannon and the Pirate Sheriff (I thought a pirate lawman to be slightly humorous). In the background is the old jail cell and its occupant. A look inside Rosie's Supply shack. She has a small weapons shack and a shelf full of...bottles. Perhaps they're poisons, or medicines, or a jar of dirt (Insert Jack Sparrow meme) A bird's-eye view into Jose's. I had a whole assortment of junk to put inside, but I'm still wondering about what works and doesn't work. I like the bar and the spit-barrel, but I might do some more interior design later on. On top of Rosie's Supply Shack, Rosie's sister tries to catch some much-needed rays. Don't forget your sunscreen, kiddies! That's about it. Feel free to comment below. Sorry if my photos don't exactly scream quality, but I've been experimenting with my camera to get things right. Always entertaining, always inspiring, always:
  2. Not one to start small for a few weeks now I've been working on flushing out the Echo Base Hanger display I want to build for my UCS Millennium Falcon. I've been planning this since the set was announced but couldn't really start till I had the set in hand to base everything off. It will be in a glass coffee table I'll be building to display it. The planned layout is currently 47.5" by 41.75" but I may go to 47.5" x 47.5". I'm going to use Stricklybricks 50x50 baseplates with one set getting trimmed down. I'm trying to be as accurate as possible and get all the little details I'm finding as I research that I haven't seen before. This will also display some of the rest of my collection so the ships inside will be a mix besides the Falcon. My 99 X-Wing and probably one of Cehnot's beauties and 4 different official speeder sets spanning the years. I'm using Migui94's Falcon as a placeholder as I work to confirm sizing in addition to the physical test layout I have set up. I see that last week Cehnot also started basically the same project with similar goals but he is going for the whole hanger while I only have room for some of it with size limitation. Can't wait to see his take shape and maybe collaborate on a few elements. I'm building in Stud.io first since I don't have the money to start buying all the bricks and figure it out by physical trial and error. So to get started with where I am at here is an over view of the layout. I have a lot of detailing to do on the walls but I've been waiting till I had the structural strength and sizing dialed in first as I kept tweaking. I originally had 2 full bays but they wouldn't hold an X-Wing so I widened it and also ended up raising them to fit the vents. This top down view with the yellow fence shows the 41" width. and the potential space if I expand to 47". I'm going to curve the wall behind the Falcon some more but I'm not going to go all the way around to keep the sides of the Falcon visible through the sides of the table. This front view of the bay shows the vents in the top of the bays. My current thought was stickers to detail the vents but i will probably revisit them to look ate a brick based option but scale is a limit here. The Cat Walk for the X-Wings is an item that has been done but lacking in detail. I used Enderman eye plates for the side detailing. The current support beam X cross braces are temporary. After much thinking and tinkering I decided to design and print custom pieces to go there. The 3L bar on top will be cut in half to finish the top rail on the ends. I do like Cehnot's top rail better though and may try to rework mine based on his. Some small detail builds I have are the (quite silly) Treadwell 1016 droid briefly seen twice (somehow it gets on top of the Falcon with treads...). I also have a fuel tanker cart seen between the Falcon and the X-Wing. The floor light took days to get the scale right and try to be easily lit from below. The plan it to get vinyl stickers for the sides to cover the trans-clear plates then put an LED under them trough a hole in the baseplate. Not shown here is that the front 1x2 plate is clear while the 2 under the slope grills are trans med blue to get the right light out the back. I have lots more to do but finally felt I had enough to start sharing. Any suggestions on how to improve something are welcome! I will also be overhauling the Falcon itself to be more ESB accurate. Haven't yet decided on adding an interior since it will be in a closed display. -JF140/Cody
  3. Thulgard by David de Rijke, on Flickr Few of the ships of the once so mighty Mitgardian expedition survived their voyage, but the brave survivors joined up and found land! On the vast continent of Vela, yet unknown to Historica, they founded their new home, Thulgard. As the wood of the ships was used for pallissades and watch towers, the crews went out to forage and build some structures to survive the incoming winter. They did not go unnoticed, however... Their new settlement of Thulgard seemed to be placed in the domain of the Empire, and some imperial officers already stood at the gates to reclaim it, diplomatically. Not a single change however that Mitgardian captain Amkyr will let that happen! Thulgard lays in the Westerlands, the -obviously- western region of the Empire, ruled by the house of Glainthes, who have their seat near Bunnock's Barn, half a day's march away. Bunnock manor by David de Rijke, on Flickr Thulgard might be my most detailed build at this scale. At least it has the best rockwork I have ever produced :p The mountain had been under construction for, like, a year, so I am kind of glad that I am done, for now I sorted out my lego, I can't wait to build much and much more! Alas I kind of forgot I am studying abroad now for some weeks, so I had to hurry with the photography before I left. I might wanna make better pictures when I am back!
  4. S.H.A.D.O. maintenance bay With a large fleet of spaceships and many ground units like the APC mobile, the S.H.A.D.O.* agency needs a modern and well equipped bay. My latest build is the S.H.A.D.O. maintenance bay where the agency's mechanics and engineers can fix and re-fit the Interceptors and possibly the ground units. The facility is full of details and it features also a service vehicle, a forklift and an hand pallet truck. Under the wing an operator is welding a support and please take a look at the sparks A little workbench and the column drill press are positioned on the right. A spare nuclear missile is ready to be loaded. Flickr gallery. Thanks for stopping by. *SHADO (an acronym for Supreme Headquarters, Alien Defence Organisation) is a secret, high-technology international agency established to defend Earth and humanity against the mysterious aliens. SHADO was the main subject of UFO, the popular '70 British television science fiction series about an alien invasion of Earth.

    [M-G03] MANTIS Hangar Bay

Location: G03 - New California Tags: Vehicle, Land Vehicle Job: Driver Start Log: Always great to have the backing of a well equipped maintenance team. After my last mission I returned to base, and while I awaited a new assignment, my speeder was given a thorough going over by the mechanics. Several other speeders were also being docked in the maintenance bay. (This speeder was previously used in my Desert Patrol build) See more pictures here: brickbuilt.

    Classic space hangar

A classic space hangar MOC I made recently, hope you enjoy it.
  7. I have written up a review of this new architecture set at Rebrickable and have plenty of build photos at my Bricksafe page.
  8. After the past few days - the One Year party, Lion Dance, an exciting Gladiator Battle, a quick trip to the Arkbri Digging site, and then dropping by for an Oliphant hunt - I'm sure all our tourists are ready to unwind! And where better to do this than in Goolag Archipelago's Sunset Bay? An overview of the entire MOC. I actually built this before the party, so that was my inspiration for the border. Only the Bay: In general I think this looked better before I took the pictures (but then I almost always think that...). At least I built the entire thing really fast... I think it took me about three or four hours. Comments are welcome!
