  1. This is my entry for the 4th round, a very detailed defensive tower with several elements such as: a improvised stable, a crossbow in the upper part, a habitable floor, etc. The number of pieces is 2991 and it has a modular system so each floor can be built separately. It can even be extended from the 3rd floor. Very easy to build and many possibilities. I hope you like it and if you want to support it (Voting and commenting your feedbacks) -> click on the link below. https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/series-4/1379/Ballista-Tower
  2. Unlike my first two entries in this little project of mine, this one's a bit of an outlier. While Witch's Windship and Traitor Transport seemed most of the way there and just needed a few more mods to do it, I can't say I cared too much about Bat Lord's Catapult, and was considering leaving that set in the dust, since the (initial) name of the game here was to create a medieval-themed Halloween display for future use. But fast-forward to November of last year when I'm mired in my Witch's Magic Manor MOC project, and a thought occurred to me: Why should the Dragon Masters have all the fun with their thematically-appropriate Dragon Defender? So after a few more Bricklink orders and some free-building, I came up with a bat-shaped ballista. As Robin might say: Holy Horrifying Weaponry, Batman! And of course you can see I wanted to keep the fancy ornamentation for the horse's harness in the original set intact. Thankfully the carriage that came with the IDEAS Medieval Blacksmith proved to be very useful in terms of giving me a way to update this in proper Fright Knights colors. And lest you think I didn't work to make sure you can adjust the angle of the ballista for...ballistic purposes, here's a few angles of a little Technic doo-dad I cobbled together. Minifigures can access it, but it works better if you do the heavy lifting here. So there you have it! One bat-themed siege weapon, designed by yours truly to emulate everything I love about the Fright Knights! Strange as it may sound, this didn't come together as quickly as I'd hoped, and there were quite a few versions which I attempted before finally giving up and sticking to the four-wheeled, single-horse model you see here. While there are obviously compromises and other nits I could pick, overall I think it blends in pretty well with the rest of my 'Neo-Fright Knights' designs. For more photos, feel free to check out my Bricksafe folder. Hopefully you've enjoyed this small palate-cleanser in between your adoring looks at your newly-built Lion Knight's Castle! Next up, we're going to gather 'round the cauldron to boil and bake while we have some fenny snake fillet, er, I mean a remake of Witch's Magic Manor! Thanks for reading!
  3. In the forest that ringed a Black Spire castle, Lord Maestro's men busied them selves constructing siege weapons. Prepared in modules back in Avalonia, soaring siege towers and devastating were slowly being pieced together (almost like Lego ). Today Lord Maestro surveyed a new contraption. Adapted from an ordinary Ballista , The Maestro's architects swore it was twice as powerful. To show their allegiance was to Avalonia they had fitted it with a Dragon head, the emblem of our their guild. A close up Looking down the barrel of the beast Entry to challenge V Category B, this was an interesting build. I have only done something like this once, and you can probably see the resemblance I hope the Dragon head looks ok to you guys, because im not completely satisfied with it. I think the landscape turned out good though, that red stuff is meant to be moss/grass. Should have Cat D up soon, C&C needed and hope you enjoy
  4. Hey all, it's been quite awhile since I was last able to build, but I just couldn't miss the Colossal Castle Contest - especially with a warship category this year. So, Instead of building a handful of rushed entries, I decided instead to pour my heart and soul into a single entry. (Pictures link to Flickr) I decided to revisit an idea I had when I built my first ship a couple years ago. I hadn't managed to make it work then, but I have come a long way as a builder since then. The technique ended up working even better than I had hoped, allowing me to build a sturdy, frustration-free hull with multidirectional curvature and minimal attachment points. This enabled me to make the sides of the hull removable, and to add an interior. The walls you see belowdecks are actually attached to the backside of the ship's frame, meaning that no matter which side is removed, the cabin will always appear as a complete cross-section. In addition, the entire ship is modular, allowing for the removal of the mast and rigging, forecastle, stern decks, hull, and even the main deck, which slides up over the mast. I really wanted to go all-out this year, and, inspired by JKBrickworks' working torsion-spring ballista, I decided to add a functional artillery piece to the deck. This was very challenging, as JKBrickworks' model is over 16 studs wide (much too big for mounting on the ship). Effective torsion springs took up too much space, so I instead lashed together flex tubes and built a scaled-down winding/ratcheting system that is similar to JKBrickworks' original design. It worked, and the ballista you see will wind, hold, and launch multiple projectiles across a desk. Finally, the ship features a working rudder and tiller, all-LEGO rigging (including the rat-lines, which are cut and sewn-together nets), deployable anchors, three projectile types for the ballista (bolt, harpoon, and ball-and-chain), crow's nest mounted crossbow, working doors and hatch, and a full crew including the VIP passengers, captain, navigator, sailors, cook, naval warfare officer, ballista crewmen, marine detachment commander, marine boarder, "Leatherhead" marine sharpshooter, and expeditionary marine. I hope you enjoy this build as much as I enjoyed building it! As always, comments and criticism are welcome and appreciated, and there are (and will be) more pictures on Flickr. Happy New Year!

    Mitgardian Lookout Post

An entry into the Castle Goes to Space contest on classic-castle. Check it out here: link, I chose to redesign the set 6899, Nebula Outpost, into a castle watchtower. Credit for the ballista design goes to Jacob Nion Small wooden watchtowers are often found slightly outside of Mitgardian villages and towns, situated on a high point in the landscape to give early warning of any sort of threat: Set it's based off of: Thanks for looking, I plan on focusing more on GoH builds in the next few months
  7. This is a counter to Kai NRG's build: link LittleJohn countered Garmadon's build here: link The design was based off of JKBrickwork's ballista and medieval ballista images. The ballista uses only official LEGO parts. Two twisted 'fishing pole' strings are what gives the ballista its shooting capability. The Ulander's fiery darts were proving rather devastating, punching a hole in the outer wall of Ras-el-akhen. But with each shot their ballista grew drier and more flammable, until as one of them lit the bolt for the next shot, the ballista burst into flame: Video: It shoots 18 inches, not counting the distance the bolt slides after it hits the ground . Otherwise, about 2 feet. I put K12 as the location in the title, to mirror Kai's post. I'm not sure if the attack was moved to a different location, as Ska has it listed for H5 in the guerrilla thread. If you see something out of order per the challenge rules, please let me know. C&C welcome

    Ballista Siege

This is the second set in my series of custom modular Castle sets. It is similar in size and part count to what an official set would be. The wall can hinge and features a breakable wall panel for the ballista to knock down. The ballista actually works and is surprisingly powerful. Total piece count, including figs is 168 parts. See the ballista in action here: All prices include shipping to anywhere in the US. Price for the complete set is 25$ Without the minifigs: 19$ For just the wall and defending soldier: 18$ And for just the ballista and attacking soldier: 10$ All C&C welcome
  9. Hello All, Here is my entry into the Mini Castle Contest VIII over on classic-castle. Thanks to critiques, i have made it better, and I hope you think so to. I have found a way to get rid of my Brickarms pieces, and have made 2 ballistas instead! I have had immense fun with this creations, and I hope you like it! Enjoy! My second design, without using Brickarms. I was able to make 2 this time, and make it bigger. :D I quite like this one. If you look, I attached a minifig arm to the arrow, it fits nice and snug right in! Hopefully from this picture you can get a gist of how to make it, feel free to use it if you want. Soli Deo Gloria! ~Matthew Oh~
