    [MOC] The Scarlet's Perch

This LEGO Model is of a Scarlet Macaw currently being displayed at the Dallas Zoo in relations with the "Nature Connects" exhibit by Sean Kenney. This model will be on display until April 10th 2016. This model is just under 12 inches tall and features a "tree stand" for displaying. It was an interesting challenge to get the curves of the bird with correct proportions to the real bird, but all pieces are connected and it is quite sturdy. Thanks for looking! ~JU
  2. LEGO MOC - The Great Wave off Kanagawa 神奈川沖浪裏 It is my favorite Japan style mosaic recreation. I like the printing to show the people living when was in Japan Edo period. From wiki : The Great Wave off Kanagawa (神奈川沖浪裏), also known as The Great Wave or simply The Wave, is a woodblock print by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai. It was published sometime between 1830 and 1833 in the late Edo period as the first print in Hokusai's series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (富嶽三十六景). It is Hokusai's most famous work, and one of the best recognized works of Japanese art in the world. It depicts an enormous wave threatening boats off the coast of the prefecture of Kanagawa. While sometimes assumed to be a tsunami, the wave is, as the picture's title suggests, more likely to be a large rogue wave. As in all the prints in the series, it depicts the area around Mount Fuji under particular conditions, and the mountain itself appears in the background. Size : 47 x 35 cm Pieces : 2000 pcs I used blue, medium blue, black, white ,tan, dark tan, light & dark grep plates as source color to generate the printing. It is one of exhibit "Alanboar & Mythbot Exhibition" display in Macau Joy 2015. The processing... 50% complete... It is the "stud on side" technique to build up the mosaic. The wave is danger and huge! If it is real tsunami, I have no idea how to survive for the fisher... 3. So awhile back BZPower had a contest where you made a hypothetical poster for the upcoming Bionicle Netflix series. I decided to enter it and made it into the finals. (Didn't win though) I figured I'd post my entry here as well after the contest. Here it is. It was inspired by old comic books and Roy Liechtenstein. (I'm still getting the hang of Photoshop) http://imgur.com/CAU5AWo C&C welcome.

    The Rivers of Hell

Mihai Marius Mihu and I would like to share our collaboration, the Rivers of Hell from Greek mythology. Please visit the group on flickr for the concept art developed during the project as well as studies of some of the builds: https://flic.kr/g/qZVdL For now, just enjoy the pictures. Acheron by Mihai Marius Mihu, on Flickr The Acheron, river of woe, is the first river reached by the dead on their final journey. Countless souls are whisked across the black depths by Charon, ferryman of Hades. Each soul pays but one coin to cross yet Charon’s wealth must equal that of Midas himself. Styx by The Deathly Halliwell, on Flickr The Styx, river of hate, tumbles from cliffs and past a thorny shore. This river, central to the oaths of the Gods, offers no comfort to the souls of the dead. On its shore stalk the Erinyes, visiting justice upon criminal souls. Cocytus by Mihai Marius Mihu, on Flickr The Cocytus, river of wailing, pools its stinking depths around those who deserve unending torture. This foul swamp offers little reprieve to Sisyphus as he again approaches the summit, thinking that this time may be his last. Here also Ixion turns on his wheel, mud and flies coating his flesh for eternity. Lethe by The Deathly Halliwell, on Flickr The Lethe, river of forgetfulness, winds through the cave of Hypnos and across the plains of Hell. It is here that spirits come, drinking deep of its waters and forgetting their mortal lives. Atop his cave, Hypnos dreams. Phlegethon by The Deathly Halliwell, on Flickr The Phlegethon, river of fire, churns through the bowels of Hell, boiling the souls of the damned. As it coils down to the deepest depths of Hell it approaches that prison of the titans, dreadful Tartarus. The great guardian beast Cerberus patrols this river as well as it travels the borders of the underworld. Thanks for viewing!

    Nilkuu's Stone-Type

In order to fight the impending darkness, the Protectors of Okoto harness the powers of space and time to bring forth mighty, fighting machines to their once peaceful island. Nilkuu claims the Stone-Type, naming him Pohatu. Pohatu is made from a strong, lightweight alloy that not only makes him fast, but also well protected against enemies and the harsh desert environment. He also wields two high-powered rifles that can fire great distances and reduce its targets to rubble. Thanks to these abilities, when paired with Pohatu, Nilkuu can come across as somewhat of a loner and over confident in his abilities. But he's not completely invincible. His weapons require a clean line of sight, which is often impeded during the night or in dark areas. No shading and no highly-detailed Nilkuu because I'm laaazzzyyy!

    MOC: The Ocean Restaurant

Hi everyone, My latest moc is called The Ocean restaurant and is inspired by Miami's south beach area. I felt some of my ealiest attempts on the style didn't do it justice. I thought a 1 storey building wouldn't be as time-consuming as some of my more recent buildings much larger in size which would allow me to concentrate more on the details and refinement. The exterior was done first and I wasn't originally going to do an interior but was persuaded to and I'm pleased I did as it turned out to be pretty fun designing. Anyway on with the pics - There's only 5 this time so i'll put them all in here These are all the pictures from this MOC, if you'd prefer to view them at flickr go here: https://www.flickr.c...s/52656812@N04/ Comments welcome!

    [MOC] Muse's "The Handler"

Hello all! I don't normally post in this forum, and I normally don't do System MOC's very often (and the ones I do are normally in LDD, which this one is), but decided that, with the release of Muse's most recent album "Drones" and having flicked through all the amazing artistic representations of the songs on the album, I decided I wanted to MOC as many of those artworks as possible. This is the second one so far (you can view and comment on my first one, Psycho, here), named "The Handler". This one was a bit of an abstract and probably wouldn't completely work in real bricks, so I did it in LDD and did a couple of renderings of it. Firstly, the artistic rendering and comparison to the original artwork: And a plain render so you can see the true colours: I guess all I really found out from this is that 16M chains are really hard to position correctly in LDD, so please don't shoot me down because the chains aren't completely straight and impossible to connect at both ends the way I wanted! (p.s. if anyone knows how to get them straight, here's the file). Positive and constructive comments are really appreciated. If you've also got the new Muse album and would like to see more LEGO renderings of the artworks, you can say which song you'd like me to do next too. Enjoy!
  8. Hi all, I had an idea to build this artwork for my wife as a present since she & her siblings traveled around in a T1 as a family, anyways my wife did not want it however I finished it all the same. Contains several rare parts, especially green, has been professionally framed using museum quality glass. I exhibited it at the recent Sydney Brick Show (Australia) with a great response, thousands of photos taken of it with most comments saying it is 'Cool'. The number plates are engraved along with the VW emblems (chrome plated then engraved) plus chrome plated tiles under the headlights & indicators - thanks to Auri @ Chrome Block City. Thanks to Andy Warhol for the inspiration. Thanks for looking - OMR PS - this is my first (and possibly only) artwork - I'm an Engineer who builds in Technic. :-) VW.artwork.5 by OneMoreRobot_NZ, on Flickr VW.artwork.2 by OneMoreRobot_NZ, on Flickr VW.artwork.3 by OneMoreRobot_NZ, on Flickr VW.artwork.4 by OneMoreRobot_NZ, on Flickr
  9. Hey! What SW stuff do you wanna build in the future? On my list is this Y-B2 ugly, X-'ceptor, and the various concept snowspeeders. Y-B2 Snowspeeder concepts: X-'ceptor Thing I'll build with what's left for the excrement and excitement: More pics >> http://imgur.com/a/raBFL Pictures are appreciated, but if they don't exist and it's something you came up with on your own, just describe it! I would love to see all your ideas. Dammit, it cut off my thread title. It's supposed to be "Star Wars MOCs you really wanna make but you have to take your time with because you're a man in a world gone mad" Hey mods, think you can rename it "Star Wars MOC To-do List thread?"
  10. Mark of Falworth

    The Siege of Alesia.

The Siege of Alesia by Mark of Falworth, on Flickr Based off of the painting "Vercingetorix Throws Down His Arms at the Feet of Julius Caesar" 1899, by Lionel Noel Royer The Siege of Alesia by Mark of Falworth, on Flickr One of my favorite wars of history was the Gallic Wars which were a series of military campaigns waged by the Roman proconsul Julius Caesar against several Gallic tribes. Rome's war against the Gallic tribes lasted from 58 BC to 50 BC and culminated in the decisive Battle of Alesia in 52 BC, in which a complete Roman victory resulted in the expansion of the Roman Republic over the whole of Gaul (mainly present day France and Belgium). The wars paved the way for Julius Caesar to become the sole ruler of the Roman Republic. Built for Major B's "Recreate History" contest. Enjoy!

    MOC: A Piece of Art

A Piece of Art by Adeel Zubair, on Flickr This MOC started with the Piet Mondrian art piece on a small scale but then I realised it wasn't worthy by itself so I also built a small easel to got with it. It's a piece of art. Fun Fact: This MOC was created with just a small selection of pieces I had lying around and I didn't purchase specific pieces therefore the design of the back leg is covered with brown pieces because it has green Technic pieces to hold the leg at that angle. Thoughts and comments are appreciated. Adeel
  12. Not sure which forum this should be in. Is there somewhere on EB for LEGO-related art? The minifigure is real. It's one of MOC customs. But the comic book effect was added digitally. Questions, comments?

    MOC: De Luca Menswear

Hi everyone, here is my latest creation De Luca's menswear! It is a 4 storey building with a store for stylish menswear on the ground floor and several apartments in the floors above. It fits exactly onto two 32x32 baseplates. I wanted to see how interesting I could make a predominantly grey based fascia as I have done mainly white/tan facades most recently. I figured enough texture and occasional colouring could bring it to life. I also wanted to experiment with an idea I had to make a different shape of apartment by hinging the bedrooms for access. It's pretty sturdy with a couple of hinges per wall for reinforcement but it did limit the colour palette slightly. Sadly no bathrooms this time but thought the spacing and shape would allow for kitchens easily enough. The building is based in the early 1960's for reference. I wanted to make furniture from a different era than I usually do. The vehicle is an American style sedan. It took a lot of fiddling to get the rear wheel arch to line up perfectly! I couldn't quite get good light for pics of the bedroom interiors so ill probably post all the furniture separately in the future. Comments and questions welcomed! There's a few more interior shots on my flickr stream here: https://www.flickr.c...57644901364201/ Cheers!
  17. Hello, I wanted to ask whether anyone has ever attempted recreating the classic images from the Lego catalogues in the early 90s, in real life. I'm really getting into post-classic (?) Space such as Ice Planet and Blacktron II, and would really like to recreate the snow and ice, especially the ice-frozen Blacktron guy as shown here, but obviously out of something that won't melt !!!!. Has anyone got experience or links to ideas on how to recreate the snow and ice in this picture? Thanks
  18. Let me present you my Cube of Mondrian. This MOC is my entry for the L13 contest on BrickPirate named "The Great Painters". The Cube of Mondrian by Veynom, on Flickr So this is a cube, not a painting and the contest specifically asked to prepresent a painting. So where is the painting ? Start looking at the faces of the cube and take some distance. Let's begin with the front face: Mondrian's Cube: Front by Veynom, on Flickr And you will see the first painting based on the below original painting from Piet Mondrian. But wait, there is more, look at the left side: Mondrian's Cube: Left by Veynom, on Flickr This is another original painting from Mondrian. But this is still not over. Let's try a top-down view: Mondrian's Cube: Top by Veynom, on Flickr This time we have a painting inspired by Mondrian. Then similarly, we have the two remaining faces : right ... Mondrian's Cube: Right by Veynom, on Flickr ... and back. Mondrian's Cube: Back by Veynom, on Flickr Those are not just mirrored copy from the other sides, there are some differences. And last but not least, one additional shot of the inside of the cube. Inside the Cube of Mondrian by Veynom, on Flickr A lot of fun and a good mind challenge. Comments welcome.
  19. So on tumblr, there's a few artists who got really hype about the lego movie and are producing some really great art for it. I'm a (rank) amateur artist, and I like seeing pictures of legos as well as just legos. The figures are really cute and easily fit cartoony expression. So... this page is mostly me hilighting other artists doing really great art featuring legos. This will probably be Lego Movie heavy. So first artist on the list: Billy Buckaroo! She's a talented artist with a real knack for cartoony design and movement. She also really. REALLY. Likes lord business. I highly recommend checking out her other stuff aside from Lego, which can be seen here. But, here's the stuff worth posting up here, a sampling of some of her best stuff, in my opinion. Some choice good cop/bad cop interracting with other characters, including the best character in the movie, the chair. Her self insert fan character (fan figure?) in three different outfits: her work outfit, her civilian outfit and her cloud cuckooland outfit, which she considers her master builder alter ego. Really cool stuff! Like I said, she really likes Lord Business. Also, picture of the other best character in the movie, Bizniss Kitty! Here is a link to her lego only tag as well. There's lots of gifs and image posts, along with her lego centric fanart. I'll probably be doing this for other artists as they come along my monitor.

    Monde Cinema

Hello everyone. Here is my latest creation - The Monde cinema. (Monde roughly translating into 'World' in French) I've wanted to build a cinema for quite some time now, after getting the palace cinema it really pushed me into making my own. It is of a 1920-30's design using some Egyptian and Mayan styling. The Grand-Rex in Paris was my inspiration on exterior proportions. I chose a french name for the Cinema in homage. I spent a huge amount of time checking out interior and exterior styling of Cinema's and this changed the design throughout the build. It took me forever to decide on the right dimensions. I didn't want to make it too deep to restrict light for photos at the back. I felt if it was too tall the figs would look out of proportion. I also didn't want to make a huge auditorium full of seats with a very tall ceiling. I felt it wouldn't be much to look at. I was more interested in making a tall welcoming lobby with a more detailed floor design and 'slight' windows. The challenge I set myself was to make working brick built doors and brick built windows. There is also a bar downstairs to break up the fascia at the front and lower the height of the auditorium. It's taken several months to complete but has been a fun project. Here is a few sample pics The rest of the pictures can be found here http://www.flickr.co...157638125748846 Comments welcome!
  21. Carl Andre splits in half and out crawls Pablo Picasso. “Ha!” Pablo cries, “I bet you had no idea I was inside the Carl Andre suit!” Everyone shrugs and continues eating their baked apples and wieners. “And you couldn’t kill my friends with your lousy hammer! We’re invincible!” Pablo laughs maniacally. “Alfred Jarry?” Anne Truitt guffaws, “But I stabbed you in your spleen!” “Good thing you’re not a doctor, Anne,” Jarry laughs, “That wasn’t my spleen, it was my liver. And that part of me died ages ago.” “You’re all dead already.” The host points out. “True,” Pablo admits, “But the horrors of the Minimalist movement resurrected us to exact our revenge!” “You besmirched the name of abstract art,” Jarry begins, “And you flouted the work of the Futurists! When we wrote our manifesto, we swore we would back off of the Art World when we were 40 years old, ancient and decrepit. We would no longer be able to add our ideas and influence to the art world. We told you that if we tried, we should be dragged out to the streets and burned alive!” “Were those the exact words?” Pablo asks. “Do I know?” Jarry retorts, “I didn’t write it and I barely skimmed it between drinks." “OK, carry on,” Pablo answers. “Thanks,” Jarry continues, “But your ideas suck! Why did we pave the way for crap like Jo Baer’s tiny arcs of color?” “I think my tiny arcs are classy!” Jo Baer cries. John McCracken tries to comfort her. “Don’t touch me, John.” Jo pulls away. “So, why is Genghis Khan here?” Brice Marden asks. “He’s a painter, isn’t he?” Jarry asks. “He told us he was.” Pablo answers, defensively. “He told us he was a contemporary of Jackson Pollock!” Jarry adds. “Um…” Genghis mumbles, “I just liked the idea of being resurrected and killing people.” “I wondered what kind of art you could make with a sword,” Pablo scolds. “Metzger used the acid and nylon” Khan defends himself. “Well, du guys can be the angry and all, but we won. You’re all dead again.” Eva Hesse explains. “That’s true,” says the host, “Back to hell with the three of you.” “Can’t we please stay?” Pablo asks, “We promise to be nice and not to kill anyone. We’ll just stay and paint and all be friends.” “Oh, all right,” the host concedes. “Genghis Khan, did you just behead Alfred Jarry?” The host asks. “I am not thinking so…” Genghis answers. Congratulations Town: Anne Truitt, Brice Marden, Ellsworth Kelly, Eva Hesse, Jo Baer, John McCracken, and of course the dead Town: Sol LeWitt, Tony Smith, Frank Stella and Donald Judd. You have all been sent a role PM in this format: Role PMs: Scum Town A word of advice for the future of playing anonymous games: Don't talk about people behind their backs in a group PM. You never know when you might be talking to the person you're talking about. So, why do you think the contributing factors were to the Town victory in just four game days? I think perhaps the balance favored the Town. When I saw Ellsworth Kelly say that there were only two players that hadn't been confirmed, I thought perhaps I had given the Town too many tools to confirm with. I'm wondering how the entire Town was "confirmed" at that point. However, I also think the Scum made some questionable choices. I'm at least curious to hear why the targets were chosen for block and kill the first couple of days. To me, the kills almost seemed like the strategy of a Serial Killer. And blocking Donald Judd twice was also an interesting choice. Reveal your true identity if you'd like! I'm interested to hear what everyone thought of this game. I don't plan on hosting again until I have my hands on real bricks. Also, trying to juggle this with full time work and full time school was an interesting experiment in and of itself. I don't think I did horribly, but was late twice in four game days and that's not much like me as a host.

They never suspect Genghis Khan will come slit their throats in their sleeps!" "Ha! They think I am caring about this art! No, I couldn't provide two shits about..." Whack! "Genghis Khan..." marvels the host, "I never would've suspected him." "Genghis Khan..." marvels Donald Judd, "I never would've suspected him." Bang! Donald also never suspects he would be shot by the work of the late Tony Smith, ironically titled "We Lost"... "Oh my!" Robert Mangold exclaims as he views the carnage, "Dan Flavin, Genghis Khan and Donald Judd, all dead. Weird. What's the strange vulnerable type feeling I'm having?" "Vulnerability?" A dark figure offers as he stabs Robert Mangold in the spine. "Thank you..." Robert gasps as the life drains out of him. Alfred Jarry throws off his Robert Mangold disguise and proclaims, "We told them we should be killed before we came up with new ideas! The art world belongs to them, we told them! But their ideas...are...so...awful...megablocking neon..." The dark figure surveys the night's carnage. "Genghis Khan?" He says, "What the...??" In the morning, everyone gathers around the bodies. "Donald Judd was a member of the Town, but Dan Flavin and Robert Mangold were both Scum...and also Genghis Khan and Alfred Jarry, respectively, for some reason." Day Four has begun. 24. Players only please! Frank Stella works late into the night on his latest painting. "I think I almost got it. It's just missing something. Maybe something juxtapose to the hard lines? Maybe a splash of color?" He ponders. "How about some red?" Someone asks. "Maybe," Frank agrees, "But I don't think I have any red paint...also, I don't even have a paintbrush. Not sure how I did this much..." Bang! "Oh, the red is nice." Frank admits... ...and then collapses to the floor, dead. "It really does look nice," the figure agrees, "I'm a genius." "Oh no! Frank Stella's dead!" "Yay!" "Who said 'Yay'?" "Um...not me." "OK, good." "Well, Frank Stella and Tony Smith were both Town..." Day Three has begun. You may not vote in the first 24 hours. 25. Players only please! It's late at night and Sol LeWitt is pondering some of the artwork. "Pffft," He scoffs, "How can people confuse this crap with my work?" "I never noticed there was a man with a gun in this piece," he observes, "Derivative..." "Bang!" "Figures..." Sol says as the life escapes his body. As morning arrives, everyone gathers around the body. "Well, was he good or bad?" "Oh sorry," says the host, "I wasn't paying much attention. I had a last minute work crisis to deal with and haven't really been around. Sol LeWitt was a member of the Town." "You didn't even do a second interlude...or a conclusion!" The Co-host exclaims.
