Making good use of 1x3x3 windows: historic liveries?

I am creating some old-style-looking electric multiple units, in minifigure scale, and the newish 1x3x3 window frame is perfect for these because it matches well the profile of a seated minifigure. Currently, this window frame is available in just three colours, Bricklink Tan (thank goodness) is a good historic railway colour, pairing nicely with reddish brown, dark red, dark blue and dark green. The other two colours - dark brown and Bricklink dark purple - are more of a challenge because older two-tone railway liveries usually had the mid-body (including windows) in a lighter colour than the lower body panels. So, can anyone point me towards old railway liveries for coaches that could make good use of these window frames? -

More Mophet, haha! Had som fun designing the window on the tower for this one, hope you guys like it!

Hello all I want to show you some techniques I used for my MOC of the ÖBB Nightjet. Since this train consists of several different cars from different former owners, there’s quite some variety of cars. I want to show you the most important building techniques used for cars based on the UIC-X car and the Eurofima-car. There are two links to the respective German Wikipedia page. UIC-X Eurofima These two types of cars can still be seen on the major European railroads on InterCity lines and were also used on the legendary TEE Rheingold. So, with changing the colours and some details, a lot of cars can be built using the same techniques Now the first part I show you are the windows, since the original ones from LEGO only come in limited colours and are quite expensive: http://UIC-X by StefanEris, auf Flickr http://Übersetzfenster 1 by StefanEris, auf Flickr http://Übersetzfenster 2 by StefanEris, auf Flickr http://Bautechnik Fenster by StefanEris, auf Flickr The windows are built using SNOT-techniques and using plats with handles and plates with clips, one can achieve different spaces between the windows, as seen on the picture with the one stud wide window. This technique can also be applied to 6-wide cars. Also note the doors, here a minifig hand is used to model the door handle. (I’ve seen this idea on other MOCs, thanks for the inspiration) The roof is made with the slope curved piece and a lot of hinge plates. The next car is an SBB Eurocity car, which is based on the Eurofima-car. The story behind this car is, that several railroads wanted to order the same car with the advantage of paying less per car. Since the more were built, the less one single one would cost. In the end not everything worked like the railroads wanted, but a lot of cars are still based on the Eurofima-car. Also the Swiss Eurocity car you see below. The most challenging part here was the roof with it’s longitudinal beads (?) (please correct me if someone knows the right translation of “Längssicken” here, they are used to reinforce the roof). To get this shape right, I used tiles and hinges. On the other hand, the windows here are quite simple. 1920's Mad scientist lab, time machine, and vintage car - real world steampunk MOC's

This my version of the 2018 Marvel Comics 'infinity War" set 76108 (Sanctum Sanctorum Showdown) for a 1920's-flavored steampunk take on a mad scientist trying to open a time doorway into the beginning of the universe using a time machine modeled after set 76109. (Quantum Realm Explorers) When the mad Scientist Dr. Floyd Hyde opened his doorway to the pre-big-bang time zone for the first time in 1914, he sent his wife Penny (wearing a makeshift gray pressure suit) into the open portal and waited for her quick return. Unfortunately, something happened and the portal itself destabilized and shut down as a safety precaution on it's own. Eleven years pass for the Scientist, who becomes obsessed with reuniting with his lost love, delving every dime and ounce of energy into creating the rescue craft and fixing the portal machine onto said flying time-craft. He finishes it in the middle of the year 1925. An eternity passes for Penny, yet she does not age a day. She is taken in by the Brothers Three, whom she nicknames Alpha, Beta, and Omega. These strange alien beings are the sole inhabitants of the pre-big bang, being the sole survivors of a great war (they may have started it) and becoming almost omnipotent in the process of floating in the vast unending void of space. The Brothers Three ask only one thing of their kindness and helping keep her alive in the harsh environment: when rescue inevitably comes for Penny, let them come with her through the portal so they can help mankind achieve it's "destiny". Let her be their "herald", telling the governments of earth all about their amazing powers and how they can help serve man. So, will Dr. Hyde get his wife back? Will Penny allow the Brothers to follow her through the portal? And just what is this destiny these three are talking about? The choice is up to YOU! L to R: Dr. Floyd Hyde, his wife Penny Hyde (in the gray pressure suit), and The Brothers Three (alien beings from before the big bang) The front of the building, with the conservatory to the rear. I replaced the center round window from the Sanctum Sanctorum with more regular windows to give the building a more average city building appearance instead of a superhero's one. The front of the building also features the year it was built: 1901. The rear of the building has a ground-floor conservatory. The rearmost window on the bottom floor opens up 90 degrees to allow for figure placement in the conservatory. As a side note, the original Marvel model's exploding walls and drop-floors have been removed. The means from getting from one floor to another is a spiral staircase, and a small skylight has been added to the roof. The inside feature's the following: The lower floor has a fireplace with clock on mantle, table with chair, oven, and lamp on a side table. The middle floor features a strange mask on a safe, curio cabinet and a bed, along with an ancient weapons display. The upper floor features a desk with some sort of electricity storage machinery, several flasks, two bookcases, and microscope. The dark red thing in the greenish jar is a beating human heart. This model was inspired by @hachiroku's Indiana Jones Desert Chase car, but remade to have a different color scheme for use with my Adventurer's mad scientist character. The doors to the passenger compartment can also open, and there are taillights on the rear of the car. The vehicle can seat one figure in the drivers seat, and one figure (or a small cargo container) can be placed behind that. Here is Antman's vehicle from set 76109 (Quantum Realm Explorers) as a 1920's-period time machine, as seen above in steampunk form. I fixed the rotating side engines, as these maddening objects are now (mostly) locked in the position shown but for the slight sideways (left / right) motion that I for the life of me can't seem to fix. Oh well, it just gets them closer to the main engine pod in the center, so no harm, no foul. EDIT: 3/5/19: Added new real world pictures and deleted the rest of the ldd screenshots. This project is now done. -
Hello, I'm having concerns for my bricks yellowing over time. I'd like to prevent this as much as possible, without having to build in a windowless dark room all the time. I'm already using the curtains in my lego room as much as possible. However, with summer being back soon, UV light will increase and thus enable the bricks to yellow faster. I was thinking about purchasing some UV filter foil to apply to my windows. Does anybody have any experience using UV filters on windows? Will they actually work? And where can I get those? I've seen a few online, but they are very expensive (€35/m2). What is the best place to buy them?

Hi! I'm working on a new cockpit canopy and wonder if this is something people would buy. I've been building fighter jets for many years now. However for a long time the cockpit canopy isn't the best for the different ways it works in reality. Brick 30384 and 92279 So I've been doing a 3d model of them and they have now been printed. Working with a plastic company to get a prototyp. So the pices are made to fit most of the "modern" fighter jet canopy. Like F18, F14 etc. So first you have a shorted 30384 that will remain fixed on the aircraft, like F18. And a extended 92279 by 3 studs that will be the canopy that opens and closes. Another version (not printed) is the F16 version canopy. So my question for you guys are. Is this something of interest? They would be made as close to lego's as possible. As a journeyman Dragonslayer walks through the halls of Drakken Keep, another hunter stalks her prey... I submitted this as a CCC entry this year, and used my Safe Haven assassin and a Dragonslayer "armor off" concept that didn't make the cut. It;s good to actually build something! Are we still doing Doctorate of Historica? If so, I request UoP credit for Windows & Window Frames if there are any Kaliphlinites still on the forum. C&C Appreciated!

Hello, I ordered the purple 6556 windows via Bricklink. When they came I realised that they got ugly circles/points on the right side (molding connection points?) Do the older 4033 look the same? Do they got also this ugly relicts? Max

This was built as part of the InnovaLUG collab, Ye Old Merry Battleground, for Brickfair Virginia.Check out the full collab here. Given the colorscheme and landscape, I thought this would fit well in Avalonia. I enjoyed getting to use some of our new sand green parts, and small castles/manors are always fun to build. There is no interior as when building this, Nordheim was still altogether and I was short on parts and time. Sir Ruari Leanin leads some of his soldiers out on a tax collecting tour. Meanwhile, some Forestmen take advantage of his leave-taking... There are a few more pictures on brickbuilt. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome

Another Kaliphlin free build, and also the start of a story line I'm working on about Katoren. I'd like to claim UoP credits for: Advanced windows and window frames History "I'm glad you were all able to come to this meeting," Aymeri greeted the three men before him. "As we all know, the Desert King has controlled Katoren for too long, and it is time we did something about it." Arioch, the oldest of the group, gave a quick nod in reply. While Tierri replied, "He won't rule Katoren much longer!" Tierri had been a strong supporter of the High Council during the Kaliphlin civil war, and was known to be quite a capable warrior, though often a bit brash. Aaqil looked solemnly from under his turban at each of the others in the room. He knew well how much it meant to all of them to reclaim Katoren, but also understood that it would be a difficult task. "But what is our plan to overcome the Desert King's rule," queried Arioch. "It will take time, and careful planning to break his reign in Katoren." "An open war is out of the question, we have neither the manpower or weaponry," responded Aymeri, "but a small force of highly trained men could make things very difficult for our enemies. And with our contacts inside the city, such a force could be especially effective." Arioch nodded slowly, thinking over Aymeri's words. "You can count me in, I'd love to see some action against those moronic mummies again," interjected Tierri. "Which brings me to the reason I asked for the three of you to meet with me. My soldiers remain loyal to me, but would need further training in the illusive combat methods we must use." "Indeed they will, but where could we train?" asked Tierri. "There are too many supporters of that false king to risk training in the city." Aaqil spoke up, "I may have a solution. There's a ruined fortress west of the city that I've often traveled by with my merchant caravan. Though its walls are crumbling and overgrown, you could easily conceal a good number of men inside." "One moment," Aymeri said and moved to grab a scroll off a nearby shelf. Spreading it on the table, the others saw it was a map of Katoren and some of the surrounding countryside. "There, pointed Aymeri, "Aaqqil is right, this old castle would make an ideal spot for our training grounds!" “But how will we get the men,and a supply of food and weapons there un-noticed?” asked Tierri. “You can’t just be constantly going in and out through the city gates, or the Desert King forces will become suspicious.” “If we alternate who delivers supplies, and try to mix in with regular caravans, we should be able to manage well enough,” Aymeri replied. “I can sneak my men out over the next fortnight and begin training. And remember, secrecy is of the utmost importance. Hello, I've just started trying to build a house (using LDD to start with) after a few years of technic play. I'm actually trying to replicate my own house, using 4x6 doors as a scaling base. But many of my windows need to be 3x3, and I can't find anything to use - 2x2,2x3,4x4 are all available. Is there a solution or will I have to accept windows too small or too big?

Here we have a window that I shot laying down on white paper thatr was made out of legos. The blinds are made out of plates laying on their side and the frame is simply regular Lego bricks. I saw a video clip from an old 80s TV show, where there was a scene similiar to this one. I thought that scene represented a kitchen from the 70/80s very well, and I got very inspired to build it in LEGO! I thought it was interesting to build in a larger scale, because some LEGO parts can then resemble new things (such as the lamp and the blinds) that they normally would not in minifig scale.

I am very lucky to be partaking in part of a collaboration at STEAM 2013 along with 7 other fantastic British builders. We are building a medieval village, circa early 14th century. James has already posted his castle. My section is an abbey, loosely based on Tintern Abbey in Wales.
