  1. Greetings, I have made LEGO 10020 on LDD with a yellow warbonnet and a B unit. I also have one in the blue warbonnet scheme and two other designs that use Earth blue . The point is that I'm afraid that Earth blue ,which is the most important color, will be hard and almost impossible to find in some cases. For example: 10020 Uses grilles and has some of those little doors (Part#: 3188/3189) and only one is sold from New Zealand in Earth blue. So my question is: Where do you guys get rare colors in large quantities from? (Example: Earth green, Earth blue, Medium azur, Aqua) ATSF F7 Yellow

    Question about PF Remote Control 64227

    Good evening together, Today i have a question to the community. For a new idea i have to collect some further information about the train remote-control 64227. I know there are around 14 steps to control the speed of a train. -7 => +7 (seven reverse and seven forward). But how many degrees will i turn the wheel from -7 to +7? I know it´s endless and in most cases it doesn´t matter, but in this special case i need to know as exact as possible. Does anybody know the degree per step too? With kind regards Martin

    [MOC] M-Tron Space Train

    Hi! This is my first MOC in space theme. I wanted to build something different in that area. What is your first thought when you are thinking about space? Probably spaceship or some kind of space headquarters somewhere on the foreign planet. But today I want to present you something little different - M-Tron train. There are 4 different modules in whole train. Please find below short description of these elements: Engine-driver cockpit - this is the place where main operator has everything what is needed to steer that machine. What is important there are always one of the beginning and the second of the end of the train. Cabine can be open from both sides. Power source - one of the most important element of the all train. If you want to ride, you need to have full batteries. Couple of outputs are directly calibrated with power inputs from engine-driver cockpit. This is a part of engine-driver cockpit, but it can be switched easily, because it has independece wheels only for that element. Engineers have some tools to make necessary maintenance. Passenger wagon - place for brave space pioneers and robots. Passengers can jump in from both sides. Freight wagon - place for other kind of stuff, which is necessary for take lots of different actions on foreign area. You can add or remove Passenger and Freight wagons, but two first modules are obligatory. Do you have an idea for additional kinds of wagons? Please let me know in comments!   4. Good evening, everyone, Today I would like to present you our model of the German "war locomotive DR BR 52" of the "Deutsche Reichsbahn". This is a tender locomotive, of which more than 7000 units have been built since 1942. It is often called a war locomotive, because it was designed and built especially for war conditions and the resulting shortage of raw materials. Even after the war, these locomotives were still in use for a long time, distributed throughout Europe. The retirement of the Deutsche Bahn took place in 1962. The model can be powered by two Power-Functions L-motors. Both engines and the infrared receiver are installed in the boiler. The battery box finds place in the tub tender. The locomotive consists of approx. 1218 components and is approx. 64 studs long. The model has some details, such as the undercarriage, the superstructure on the boiler or the striking tub tender. Various SNOT techniques were used during construction. Lego was a favorite toy/game in my childhood, but after 15 y.o. i start to move and work in different cities and countries, so have no time to create and volume in bags to take Lego with me. After some years I found LDD and start to create some virtual models. Now I have no PC for few mouns, and it's time to get some theoretical knowledge about how other peoples build they own MOC's I will post some my old models in train and city category. Preview:

Good evening, everyone, Since I promised you in the last topic to design more international models besides german models, today I would like to present you the model of the "Hall-Class 4900" of the "Great Western Railway" from Great Britain. The "Hall class 4900" were tender locomotives, which were built between 1924 and 1943. A total of 259 units were built and the locomotives were used for passenger and freight traffic. The locomotive with the railway number 5972 "Olton Hall" achieved special fame. It is the locomotive shown in the Harry Potter movies, which was specially repainted for this in the well-known red coloring. The model consists of approx. 1090 parts, is approx. 66 studs long and about 10 studs wide. A Power-Functions L-motor can be installed in the boiler. The IR-receiver and the battery box find comfortably place in the large tender. Most of the decals or printed components correspond to the original LEGO parts. Furthermore, the model is equipped with numerous striking details, such as the piping, the chassis or the detailed cabin. This model is also a little bit of a premiere, because for the first time not only LEGO standard components are used, but also railway wheels in XL and M by Big Ben Bricks. I also tried the Bricklink Part-Designer for the first time. Currently the manual is available in two different versions. One as GWR "Hall-Class 4900" in dark green and one as "Hogwarts Express" in known red. I hope that you like this version in particular, because there are already some versions, even directly from LEGO. Praise and criticism are very welcome.   7. Good evening everyone, Today I would like to present another "international" model. This is the "NSB Type 49 - Dovregubben" of the Norwegian State Railway. It was built between 1935 and 1941 and was mainly used on the "Dovre-Railway", that´s the reason why the locomotive is also called "Dovregubben". The model consists of approx. 1020 individual parts, is 58 studs long and approx. 10 studs wide. It can be driven by two M-engines, one above the other in the boiler. The IR receiver is located in the cab and the battery box in the Vanderbilt tender. This model was developed from a former customer request and was a special challenge, since there are unfortunately only very few meaningful photographs or pictures in the Internet to find.   8. Hello All, So I've finally got my act together and started building my layout however due to space the Lego 12v points are my only option as the 9V/PF switches take to much room. However an electronic pair will set you back around £90-£110 with all the switch boxes etc. So my challenge was can I do it cheaper? The answer was Yes. My first design (first image) was to use the Lego servo motor as it turns 90 degrees however these are around £20, then you'd need a Sbrick or another way to control it. It works but it looks bulky. So as I use Ncontrol from 4D Brix, I like the interface, click options and Tom is really helpful. So after a quick chat he wrote some code for me to limit the movement to 90 degrees and I purchased a Monorail Switch. It is very simple, looks neat and above all works. You have to purchase the quad motor control module but the beauty is that this will do four switches. So if you have 4 switches you save £30 on the second pair. So your first pair will cost you £80 but the next pair will only cost £50. This is the cost Lego 12 Volt Points Pair @ £100 My Second Design @ £80 Lego 12volt points not motor > £20 2x 4D Brix Motors > £25 4x 1 Meter Cables > £5 4D Brix Quad Control > £30 The only downside is you lose the turning symbol but I can see that in the software so it doesn't bother me.   10. Since the 2018 Hogwarts Express (set 75955) is lacking in realism, (with the engine and tender in particular!) I decided to revise my custom version with ideas from the set, including printed 1x4 curve tiles with Hogwarts Castle printed on them. The locomotive is a heavily modified version of LDDModelmaker's Black 5 model with some parts from set 79111, Constitution Train Chase. The tender features a three wheeled bogie design modified from the one in Anthony Sava's ALCO MRS-1. The middle axle moves side to side, as to allow going through switches and curves without issue. The inside of the cab features two gauges and the firebox. In this false-color image, the red parts slide, the blue ones stay put to allow for the loco to go around curves and switches. (BTW: There are parts underneath that keep the sliding bogie from falling out.) The roof and side wall of each coach come off independently from each other, to reveal four seats for students and / or the occasional teacher. The Hogwarts Express is usually made up of four corridor BR MK I passenger coaches, although sometimes a special fifth coach is attached with an open floor plan. (however, in this Lego design, they are all open floor plan!) Also, the end car is not accurate to the films, but is what I prefer to the alternative: a gangway leading nowhere with no red light on the end. In-universe / Film History for the Hogwarts Express: Leaving from Kings Cross' Platform 9 & 3/4 to Hogsmeade Station at exactly 9 AM, the Hogwarts Express carries students (and sometimes faculty) to and from Hogwarts' School of Witchcraft & Wizardry in the Harry Potter series of books and movies. It has been seen in every Harry Potter film, from it's first appearance in the beginning of Philosophers Stone to it's (so far) last at the end of Deathly Hallows. (part two) The Hogwarts Express is usually only in the film for a short while, and it is generally a pleasant journey from Kings Cross to Hogsmeade, although Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and a certain Flying Ford Anglia might beg to differ! Hogsmeade station is the terminus for the Hogwarts Express on it's school-ward journey. This 100% fictional version of Hogsmeade station (as in, not based on any of the Harry Potter films) was inspired by several sets, chiefly sets 4554 (Metro Station) 41167, (Arendelle Castle) and 71044 (Disney Train and Station) from which I took the tower roof design, main floor general "look", and attic windows, respectively. (I was originally going to make this a generic European station, but then realized the Hogwarts crest 2 x 2 printed tile can fit just above what became the 1 x 4 Hogsmeade station sign on both the street and tracks sides.) The model is modular, and features a track side platform, ground floor, second floor, and tower roof. The street side features the same basic look as the other side, but in this case their is a staircase.... which could cause a problem for luggage trolleys as their is no ramp! Top floor features the Station master's office, which includes fixtures such as a desk, telephone, and some filing cabinets. This floor features the two ticket counters, indoor seating, and fireplace. Every floor & platform is grouped separately in LDD, as seen above. As usual, comments, questions, suggestions, and complaints are always welcome! EDIT 10/5/19: Hogsmeade station LDD model added. Real bricks coming eventually. (Hopefully soon!)

    [MOC] Mat '64 plan V

    Mat '64 plan V by Ervvin, on Flickr The Materiaal 64 Plan V is an old EMU from the Dutch railways. The trains were introduced in 1966 and ran until 2014. In total 246 were built. The model is often reffered as apekop, monkeyhead in English because of it's resemblance to a monkey's head. My model is about 194 studs long 8 studs wide and built to 1:45 (0 scale) It features a Powered Up motor and lightsensor to allow automated stopping at stations. Stickers are currently still missing, but those will follow as well with more photo's at LegoWorld Utrecht (NL).

    High nose (maersk mod)

    I never bought the maersk train. But after watching one tootle around our club layout I was inspired to see if I could build one from what I had. It was never going to be blue and grey, but having the panels in red lead me to that colour. Here is an progress shot, one element type needs replacing with the correct colour, otherwise it’s ready to roll. And of course, it stiill needs lettering and numbering. Any tips on that would be appreciated. And yes. I’m aware the GP-40-2 never had a high nose variant and the SD-40-2, which did, properly had Co trucks. Perhaps I should splurge on some of zephyr’s truck frames...

  16. Welcome aboard the Astro-train! This futuristic stream-liner was a mix of the 1950's Earth train called the "Aerotrain" but redesigned specifically for use by Nexus Force personnel as a high-speed, high-security ground transport between the northern-most city of St. Nicklaus and north-pole-hugging outpost of Ice Station Odyssey, around 590 miles away. (this all takes places on the ice-bound planet of Beta Polaris, which orbits what we here call the North Star, far away from Earth.) Thus this makes it a space train! Unlike the original Earth version, the Astro-train is super-streamlined, and can go up to speeds of up to 230 MPH on special track, with super-elevated curves and long straight-away's of hundreds of miles, all while using Positive Train Control (PTC) on the the mostly double-track mainline, where all vehicle crossings are flyovers and switches virtually non-existent once out of St. Nicklaus city limits. This train runs along with Seven identical versions of itself on the route with up to five in running order on the route and at least one in the maintenance shed at any one time. Also, please NOTE: The train is authorized to make 15 minute stops in the icy wastelands at native villages as requested before continuing on to it's destination. Signal boxes are provided at certain spots to stop the train at the correct spot to en-train, with only village elders having the keys. To de-train, you must pull the cord at least full 10 minutes before you wish to disembark to allow the train to slow down. Only five stops are marked on the route, but several unmarked villages are springing up, so the schedule has gone out the airlock recently. (In actuality, this is a heavily modified version of 2018 Star Wars set 75217 (Imperial Conveyex Transport) mashed up into an 8-wide version of my 1950's Aerotrain model. The model also features inside details and Jacobs bogies besides the lift away side panels of 75217 and removable cab roof.) This loco is missing five printed pieces: (1) slope of this type for the front of the nose, right below the third headlight. It is the Nexus Force's logo. (4) of this round tile for the roof engine exhaust vents. Fold up the walls so you can look underneath at the powerful diesel engine. The roof of the engineer's cab comes off to place a figure at the controls. Each of the four cars can hold four seats each behind the two fold-up side walls. These are the four passenger cars, which are linked together in pairs of two by Jacobs bogies. They can have more two-car sets dropped in or out, but the rear-most car set is the minimum. (as the last car carriers the four tail markers) I thought about adding another two cars, but the price was too prohibitive right now. Anyway, I think this might become a real brick built model sometime around Christmas to go with my Nexus Force space base... as seen in this horribly out-of-date picture from January 5th, 2019 and this topic here. We will just have to see what the future holds!
  17. Hi. Earlier last year I was in the middle of another MOC project and it proved to be more involved and difficult than I initially thought. So I took a break from it... and I started playing around with some LBG parts around a train motor and ended up building a Neo Classic Space Train (Spacetrain SPACETRAIN!). Because why not. It does run! There is enough clearance between the pentagonal tiles and the wheel bases for it to turn around standard Lego track radii. I've run it at public shows, although it is quite heavy and only has one motor in it for now, so its top speed is a bit limited. I might add another motor at some point to speed it up, but I've been busy on other MOCs instead! Larger resolution photos are on flickr. Hope you enjoy it! I’ve been wondering for a while what on earth Creator Expert 10269 is going to be, and as I could find barely anything about it, I thought this thread would be the way to find out more. 10269 (Vehicle D2C Set) is described on Brickset simply as that, with absolutely nothing else to tell us what it is. Does anybody know anything about it at all, apart from ‘vehicle’ and ‘creator expert’? It could be a train, a car (though unlikely as the Ford Mustang has just been released), a plane, a ship, a shuttle or something completely new. The only thing I can possibly think of is an Emerald Night 10th anniversary rerelease, though I can’t see why they would do that. Please share your thoughts on this set below.     Layout: plan fo new layout

    Hi guys, I currently have a small city/train layout. It is currently getting to small for my trains and modulars. (if you are interested you can find it here: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=554588). This made me think over a redesign of the layout where I have more space for the trains and the modulars, and where I have more "track-space" to move the trains on the layout (with the current design I can move 4 trains independently on the layout). I have now to describe what you can see in the image above: First you see the whole visible track of the layout. You can also see that it consist of three levels: gray baseplates = level 0 green baseplates = level 1 (20cm above level 0) tan baseplates = level 2 (only streets and houses, 20cm above level 1) All blue baseplates are placeholders for modular houses. You can also see, that this layout only works with modified points. The tracks on the red baseplates are the ramp where the train can go from level 0 to level 1. In the picture above you can also find the dimensions of the layout. In the pictures below, you can find the track layout of each single level (for reference the track ramp is shown in all thee pictures): Level 0: Level 1: Level 2: Now my Questions are: What do you think in general of my layout? An old project finalized after seven years Herningværket Vestkraft I/S All three typers of wagons were part of the company's famous coal train "kultoget" transporting coal from Vestkraft in the costal city of Esbjerg to Herningværket power plant in the inland city of Herning from the year 1982 to 2000. FALS coal wagon Digital model but built in 2012The 18 coal wagons were built in Denmark by Scandia in 1981-82 on license from Talbot in Germany.All were sold to France in 2000.My model:Scale: ~1:50Lenght: 30 bricksWidth: 8 bricksBricks: 312Weight: 335gDesigned: 2012 (slightly updated in 2018)Very high setting render from Stud.io with custom decals done in the PartDesigner tool. The doors can be opened up to 45 degrees: Top view: ASJ tank wagon Digital model but being built very soon... The six tank wagons bought by Vestkraft I/S in 1981 were originally built in 1948-49 by AB Svenska Järnvägsverkstäderna (ASJ) in Falun, Sweden. All six were scrapped in 1991. My model: Scale: ~1:45 Lenght: 26 bricks Width: 6-8 bricks Bricks: 302 Designed: 2019 Very high setting render from Stud.io using custom decorations from Stud.io, LDD to Pov-Ray and manual editing. The two AVG tank wagons bought by Vestkraft I/S in 1991 were originally built in 1968 by AB Gävle Vagnverkstäder (AGV) in Gävle, Sweden. Both were removed from service in 2002 and scrapped in 2003. My model: Scale: ~1:45 Lenght: 40 bricks Width: 6-8 bricks Bricks: 361 Designed: 2019 Very high setting render from Stud.io using custom decorations from Stud.io, LDD to Pov-Ray and manual editing. Some of the custom decorations were truly horrific to render due to their bend Top view: Technique used for the mid-cylinder: The locomotives (!) Both types of locomotives were from the Danish State Railways (DSB). In the the earlier years of operation from 1982 to 1993 two Litra MX (1001 & 1024) were used, one in the front and one in the back whereas in the later years from 1993 until the end of operation in 2000 a single more powerful Litra MZ (I) (1404) were used. DSB Litra MX The Litra MX locomotives were built on license from General Motors by Nydquist & Holm AB - Bofors-Nohab in Trollhättan, Sweden. 45 were built from 1960-1962. The Litra MX were very similar to their big brother Litra MY but had a smaller engine and lower weight with less pressure on the tracks making them popular on smaller railroads. Quite a few are still used today by private railway companies either domestic or abroad. One locomotive is on display at a railway museum in the city of Stuer, Denmark. My model: Digital model but based on my very first train MOC from 2011 with the same basic design. DSB red and black livery used in the 1980s. Room for lights in all headlights and the interior. Quite a few are still used today by private railway companies either domestic or abroad, in Iran, Norway and Australia. My model: Digital model but based on my second train MOC from 2011 with the same basic design. DSB red and black livery used in the 1980s.     Presenting another Danish train... DSB IC3 The Danish State Railways’ (DSB) highly successful and innovative InterCity 3 (IC3) passenger train was co-developed by Siemens Duewag in Germany and ABB Scandia in Denmark. The train is operated by DSB in Denmark and Sweden, by Renfe Operadora in Spain and by Israel Railways in Israel. Amtrak in the USA and Via Rail in Canada have tested the train in the past. A trainset consists of three units, two diesel motor units (MFA and MFB) and one intermediary unit (FF). Up to five trainsets can be coupled together. 96 trainset were built for DSB from 1989 to 1991. All are still in service today. My model: Room for lights in all headlights and interior. This article about the new Candy Circles, is related to two other threads of mine: 1) The Lego Candy Sorter 2) The Lego Candy Warehouse The new developed Lego Mindstorms EV3 Candy Circles are replacing the Candy Sorter. The color detection of the Candy Sorter was simply not reliable enough. Once calibrated, it worked fine but it was too sensitive for a change in light. Therefore, it was not good enough to perform for a longer time, e.g. at Lego World or during another demo. We decided to go back to manually sorting the candies. But then we still needed some dispense mechanism to release a candy, that would be stored in the Candy Warehouse. I came up with the following solution: Four large circles, containing the candy. A circle would be able to release one candy at a time. The released candy would then be transported to the Trebuchet (where the candy would be put in a container, and then the container with candy is stored in the Candy Warehouse). This was the first prototype: As you can see, there is a touch sensor and one marker added onto the ring. The marker was used to sync a full rotation. After the sync, I would just rotate the ring 360/16 degrees to release the next candy. Because there is always a bit of drift, the sync (per full rotation) was planned to make sure that the drift could not increase infinitely. But, of course it would be better to stop exactly at each bucket. So I made a second proto. As you can see, each bucket has its own marker to stop exactly at the right position. This proto was good enough to start building four circles. And a matching conveyor belt. This is the result: And of course a video: Next step to make: how to determine that a candy circle is empty? I don't have free ports to add an additional sensor. And of course it needs to be reliable! Will keep you posted. -- Hans
  23. I’m trying to get sets 181 and 182 running but 4.5v battery boxes have many poor connections (I’ve checked with multimeter). I would like to fix but first I need to separate top piece of box from bottom piece to get at contacts. Question: how do I take apart a 4.5v battery box so I can adjust and clean bottom contacts? Is top piece glued to bottom piece? thanks for any help you can give!
  24. Belus was a series of experimental locomotives within the dystopian apocalyptic fictional universe of The Final Station. There was only 8 locomotives in total, with the series discontinued after the main project supervisor went missing and the project team going bankrupt, ceasing production and maintenance of the Belus locomotives whatsoever. According to the game wiki the train's wheel arrangement is supposed to be 6-2-0 (I am not versed in train wheel patterns), but I depicted only the four that show up in the gaps between the plating. EDIT: Yesterday before sleep I've tried to make the Belus to actually have three pairs of smaller wheels, as is suggested by the info from the wiki. I think it looks much better, even though not much have changed on the surface: Here's what lies under the plating though: Here's the train's in-game appearance: As you can see, I had to work with a design that was ever represented only in a side-view, so it was a challenge to turn it into a 3D and pick a good width. In the end, I am glad that I even managed to more-or-less adjust the wheels to stand on the standard LEGO train tracks. All in all, it was a fun build that I wanted to tackle for a while! Also, please do check out the game, it's gorgeous and has a really good atmosphere! The model is made in Lego Digital Designer and adjusted in Stud.Io.
