  1. Winter time means castle building time! Isaac and I collaborated on this tavern, building it over a three week period. Building time was pretty sporadic in those weeks due to the holidays, but we had lots of fun with it. We were primarily inspired by this artwork from Jinwon Yun. All the windows are lit to add to the inviting warm look contrasting with the frigid winter environment. It is an entry into the Trading Places category of Brickscalibur and the Miscellaneous category of Guilds of Historica anniversary challenge. We’d be curious to hear if you can pick out what sections each of us built! The Wayfarers’ Den is a well known tavern nestled into a wooded valley near the crossroads between Valholl, Omurtag, and Daydelon. Being a full day’s journey from the nearest town, it provides a natural rest point and warm refuge for the tradesmen and travelers trekking through Mitgardia’s frigid mountains. And with its well equipped larder and large central hearth, customers are often tempted into staying an extra day or two. While Glorfindel has often stopped there on his journeys, he always eagerly welcomes the sight of its sturdy walls amidst the pines. Due to his young age, Eryl has seen comparatively few taverns. And most were modest affairs when compared to the Den's three stories. His first visit was an experience he will always remember. Cold and exhausted from a day's journey, he was relieved to hear Glorfindel say they would stop for the night. So weary was he , that he hardly noticed the inn until a stable hand helped him off his horse and urged him indoors. The warmth, light and laughter inside quickly reinvigorated him - along with a heaping helping of stew. The night progressed and he listened in rapture to Mitgardians from all over the country swapping stories and telling tall tales. Finally he followed Glorfindel upstairs and tumbled into a bed beneath thick furs to sleep soundly. Thanks for looking, feedback always welcome!

    [MOC] The Golden Crown Inn

For Kings and commoners, the most famous and busiest tavern in all of Faldia. Not many kings have visited though, it is frequently used by the Royal Falcon Guard and the main Black Falcon army. Video: Pictures: On the balcony are Lord Biron and his wife, who are currently staying at the tavern, he isn’t really happy about all the noise downstairs though. The Golden Crown Inn by Ids de Jong, on Flickr The Golden Crown is run by the Ryan family, who are known for their hospitality. The Golden Crown Inn - bar by Ids de Jong, on Flickr Today we all gathered for the event, and we have a special surprise, the Fantastic Fauns are currently playing in Faldia, at our tavern. Please welcome them with a round of applause. The Golden Crown Inn - the Fantastic Fauns by Ids de Jong, on Flickr Aht and Minke (Fantasy figbarf – Whispering Woods I and IV) are still playing a board game at the window to the right. Aht: “I can see why you wanted to return to the city, really lively here, although I’m fonder of the woods myself.” Minke: “Yeah, when the position of captain of the Royal Falcon Guard came free, I couldn't turn it down, thanks for the recommendation Aht.” Aht: “No problem, glad I could help you.” - Also to the right are two members of the trade guild discussing some new trade opportunities with Felisia, located south of Faldia. The Golden Crown Inn - Aht and Minke playing a board game by Ids de Jong, on Flickr Many locals are also frequently visiting and get together at the tavern. 3. I got a copy of set 76388 - Hogsmeade Village Visit on Saturday the 5th of February from the LEGO Store in my town. It will be heavily modified to fit into my existing setup, with back halves added to the buildings, same as I did to set 10217 - Diagon Alley set and heavily inspired by the style of 10193 - Medieval Market Village (both sets of which I've owned for over a decade now!) for use in my early-to-mid 1900's-town. You can find all those buildings, along with a few more, below. The Leviathan Inn Here are the pictures of "The Leviathan", which is supposed to be a bar / inn of some sort, and was formerly known as "The Three Broomsticks" pub. This building has a newly added back half and revised details on the inside, including more bench seating, a few beds upstairs, steam heat, drink dispenser tap, and a much-needed cash register. Side note: One of the dark green windows is backwards in this picture and has since been rotated into its proper place. The rear of the model. Unlike the revised Candy Shop, this building opens up to 180 degrees, allowing for the building's inside details to be more accessible. The entire rear half is new, along with most of the building's furniture and all the printed parts. Inside on the upper floor is a few beds for weary travelers, with two beds and two chairs. The room also features a steam-heater modeled after the one in the 2008 Modular Building, set 10185 - Green Grocer. The lower floor has tripled it's seating with two more "picnic" benches. I also added a drink tap to the counter beside a cash register. (the latter feature was sorely missing from the original set!) Wonka Candy Shop This is a rebranded Honeydukes from set 76388 - Hogsmeade Visit with a back half to the building and a (NEW) second sales floor added on. The name WONKA will go over the front door in printed 1 x 1 tiles I don't have in LDD, along with quite a few other parts missing from this model. ...and yes, that's supposed to be Willy Wonka standing out front of the shop. Rear view of the building. (Wonka should really look into getting that roof fixed as you can practically see inside the attic!) Also, the building can only open up to 90 degrees for inside access due to the overhanging structure of the roof and a few other items. This store has everything; a wall of Everlasting Gobstopper's in the four flavors, Scrumdidilyumptious bars, Square Candies That Look 'Round, new-formula Fizzy-Lifting drinks, a Wonka chocolate fountain, Exploding Candy (for your enemies), Lollipops of all kinds, and many more items. (Ok, so I didn't design most of the items in here. square candies and the Gobstopper wall are all I added of consequence to the inside. The rest of the sweets are repurposed / duplicated from the set, but they ARE in there.) Octan Gas Station (and 1920's fuel tanker truck) Here is my WIP version of my gas station and early tanker truck. I added a back wall to the building, made it look more late 1920's / early '30's by adding painted wooden siding, and removing the Christmas-time items as were originally installed by the designer. Also, several printed items are missing in this picture that will be added later. (Thanks to my brother who gave me the new 32 x 32 road plate for this project.) The truck was originally from set 10222 - Winter Village Post Office, while the building is inspired by Brick City Depot's Winter Village Gas Station, which you can see at their website. The Captain's Daughter Tavern This English style tavern was built from set 10193 - Medieval Market Village, and expanded by my brother to have an inside staircase and a better chimney. Rear view of this building. The inside of the model features a Frog on the bar (for no real reason), a inside staircase, and a bunch of seating on the second floor. Their is a gumball machine on the second floor at the top of the stairs. Backwash Bros. Saloon This model was inspired by set 79109 - Colby City Showdown from the 2013 Lone Ranger theme. I turned the 1 story bank into a 2 story saloon, complete with two lift-away sections to access the inside. This picture is from 2015, and the "neon" Saloon sign no longer exists. The first floor features the bar with old fashioned cash register, and a staircase to more seating on the second floor. The second floor features more seats and a piano. This level was originally supposed to be a game room, filled with pool tables and poker dealers. Unfortunately, the room never happened as the space constraints left too little space to place figures. The Adventuring Surplus Store This building was originally part of set 10217 - Diagon Alley, specifically Ollivander's wand Shop. I added a rear to the building and redid the interior to have more of an adventure supply / military surplus store. The store is currently owned and run by Bob from LEGO Universe, and features a few items from the game inside. The rear of the store features the back door. The shop only opens 90 degrees instead of 180, due to the roof being in the way. Inside we have weapons of various origins, from deep space to the distant past. Upstairs is the clothing section, with several space suits and battle armor on display. My Sig-Fig's House This building was originally the Blacksmith's shop from set 10193 - Medieval Market Village released back in 2009. I got it in 2011, near the end of it's production run. It has been turned into my mini-figures house, complete with furnished interior. Here is the rear of the house, continuing the wooden patterns from the front. The inside of the building features a couch, bed and a pot bellied stove. Their is a staircase, which was completely missing in the original set. Johnny Thunder's "Adventurers, Inc." Office (and Johnny's car) This Adventurers model was inspired by my original Johnny Thunder office building from 2015. I modified it into a corner building with a tower like in set 10255 - Assembly Square. The building is modular, and comes apart into three sections: roof, second floor and main floor. This model is my actually second tallest creation, as it's shorter than Lord Sam Sinister's Mansion and only slightly taller than my Saloon. The lower floor features a cabinet from set 10228 - Haunted House and a 1920's style ivory phone borrowed from set 10218 - Pet Shop. A hat rack (also from the Pet Shop set) is next to the wall opposite the desk. The far wall features some treasure from Johnny and his friends many adventurers, such as the Golden Shield from "Orient Expedition", a T-Rex tooth from "Dino Island", a trident from the "Quest for Atlantis", the replica hammer of the Thunder god from the "Age of Ragnarok", the helmet of a dwarf from "The Search for Middle Zealand", and many others artifacts. the upper floor features Johnny's bed, a stove, table with root beer bottle, and a radio / record player. This concludes my buildings I've built since 2013 that I still have built, with more to come. A few of these pictures are from 2015 and 2017... but I'll let you guess which ones. Any Questions, complaints, suggestions, etc. are welcome!
  4. "Brick-Terre Tavern" by The Plastic Brick This MOC is designed with play in mind, so it is sturdy and provides access to the interior rooms. The building opens in the back and reveals a variety of scenes. I really enjoy the color scheme, brick arches, balcony and the details of interior. The little nook table with Redbeard is my favorite, though. More pictures available in Flickr album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/theplasticbrick/albums/72157720137483584
  5. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/c928192a-50a0-4c4c-90da-5224f92f1937 This is a build of the Inn of the Prancing Pony from The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R Tolkien built as a Lego ideas submission to be made into a set. I have seen other versions of this inn and tavern submitted to LEGO ideas in the past, so I know there is interest out there in having this inn as a set. I hope to honor those previous submissions and see if we can reach 10K. The Prancing Pony is one of the most famous fantasy inns of literature and I would love to see this added as a set to the LEGO portfolio in the Lord of the Rings or castle genre. It is a very iconic medieval building. I would love you support if you would be willing to vote for this idea! Thank you!
  6. Some recent builds really inspired me to build a tavern/inn of my own. The cross section is partly to show the interior and partly due to a lack of bricks I'm not entirely happy with the base/exterior of the basement, but decided to leave it and focus on other parts of the building. This is the Golden Mane Inn! "A respectable establishment in the center of town, serving only fine ladies and gentlemen" - so the bouncer claims until he is handed a coin. What happens inside might be a whole other story. I hope you'll enjoy the build Link to full album: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmVJPjFr Front/side view. Back view.

    Djakovo-medieval town

After I started building the city for a couple of years, I also became interested in castles. I'm never happy with what I've done, but I'm progressing slowly. Unfortunately the money side still limits me to go into more detail. Because when I go to work I like to do everything big. To make 4 buildings, instead of 1 with all the details. I am preparing for the exhibition of my LUG club "KOCKICE" so I am in a hurry to do everything I plan. I started the castle with 1 tower, then a couple of buildings, so I added the walls. Now I’m working the village in front - and the plan is a port as well. The tower is now too small for such a big city so I tear it down after the exhibition and do something bigger. I borrowed a lot of ideas, so maybe someone will recognized they work - THANK YOU !!

    Medieval Inn

Hello everybody, it’s five years since my last presented MOC, so it‘s time to share the latest building for my medieval town. The layout: The village itself consists of 32x32 modules of scenes that are to be expected in such an environment, so you can find the city walls or residential buildings. The module shown here will be the inn on the market square, more or less the best house on the square. The technical details: The visible, not very nice to look at, substructure disappears when the future modules are next to each other. I didn't want to retouch this because it belongs to the building and without it cellars or shifts in height would not be possible. Both baseplates can be separated from each other by removing the middle section at the first floor. Every section is modular, but without interior. Many construction techniques are not my own, especially the small door frames or the window constructions of the ground floor level are copied. Unfortunately I don't know from whom, as it's been a long time since I built these. Minifigs: 10 Parts: about 11.500 The environment: The two connected parts of the building stand above the old Roman road, which frays into the market square. At the rear there will be a small square with the stables and a well, the front part is on the market square. The layout is medieval with fantasy elements, so that the group of minifigures in the foreground can consist of a knight, a magician, an elf and a dwarf. Have fun watching, more pictures of this MOC and other modules can be found on Flickr. Front_Cover by Tabaya, auf Flickr Corner_backside_1 by Tabaya, auf Flickr
  9. Ahoy there, and welcome to Jose's Inn, located on the scenic Skull Rock boardwalk just a stone throws away from the pirate port itself! This Inn has all amenities of (both ship-or-land-based) home, such as five cozy beds and a large wine cellar stocked with all best ale's, beers, wines and spirits. The food served is guaranteed by our cook Dan "Dysentery" McGee to be the best served in all the world's navies, with no-maggots* crackers a staple of the pre-dinner meal! We are also proud to feature twice-a-week amusements by "Davy Jones and the Cursed Immortals" as our house band on Monday and Friday nights. Come around for such hearty songs such as "Point of Know Return", "Wooden Ships", "Octopus's Garden", with "Hotel in Tortuga" as their usual closer. The rear of the tavern, with the crow's nest-like lookout on top. Inside and upstairs are the (cost is per night) beds. Downstairs is the tavern area. So come on down to Jose's Inn, where our famous waitstaff (Manfred the waiter on left, Rosemary the barkeep on right) will treat you like old friends! (*Crackers may or may not contain maggots. Resulting disease may vary; Check with your local barber for more details on whether the crackers may be safe for you!) Davy Jones and the Undead Immortals Band are, from left to right: - Cpt. Vanderdecken, on drums (cursed God on a trip round the horn of Africa, so God cursed him) - Corporal Punishment, on guitar (from a Spanish expedition to El Dorado) - Major Paine, on bass guitar (officer from the English Civil War) - Davy Jones, on vocals (made a deal with goddess Calypso to ferry souls to underworld) NOTE: Their instruments are made from ectoplasm and not visible to living beings, thus they are not visible here. MODEL NOTES: This tavern idea came to me in early February, and was built in late May, and is based off set 31109's B-model with the printed sign from set Pirates of Barracuda Bay (from the Ideas set 21332 number . I thought I should build accommodations for my pirate crews upon arriving at Skull Rock, and it will hook into the boardwalk via clips on both sides of the model's dock easily. The song list is the one I thought long and hard about... thinking of REAL songs with pirate or ship themes, however slight, was hard! However, the easiest one to add was because of @Professor Thaum and his awesome pirate-y rendition of Hotel California, as seen in the post linked to above in the actual song list and again here, because I love it so much. Comments, questions, suggestions, and complaints welcome!
  10. The light house of Skull Rock was once kept lit by a order of monks, who believed the nearby skull-shaped cliff face (carved by the former native islander inhabitants) was a sign from "The Man Upstairs" that is was an evil place. The monks were later killed off in 1708 by scurvy and other diseases, leaving only one alive who went insane from the ordeal, claiming he saw ghosts of several past wrecked ships' captains. In 1710, the pirate Captain Henry Smithfield of the infamous "Yago" found skull island and skillfully managed to sail through the island coral reefs unaided except by the light and a keen sailor's intuition. He was inspired to take over operation of the light, but eventually had to maroon the mad monk on a nearby deserted island as he was too crazy even for pirates! The light is still lit only occasionally, mostly when trying to wreck merchant and pirate hunter ships onto the reefs to be plundered thereon. This island is known to the area's native islanders as Hazar-dues, or to it's pirate inhabitants and imperial captives as Skull Rock. NOTE: The name of the island is said like the word, "Hazardous" (which is quite apt for it's windswept rocky surface!) I'm taking @Faladrin lead with his similar model and one-upping it to include the entire skull rock, and a dock for pirate ships of all types! NOTES: The set conversion is mostly (98%) finished as of 1/28/21. The as-yet unbuilt lighthouse portion is on order from Bricklink as of yesterday. This new piece will replace the crane section of the dock. I've also realized that all the set 71722's features are tied together by gearing / rods, such as: - The rotating scythes on the walkway to the officer's quarters behind the eyes. - the moving "wave" walkway to the base of the waterfall. (which opens up!) - the lowering / raising of the wooden cage holding the (deceased) bluecoat Admiral. ..and all this is activated by cranking the large U-shaped handle on the left! The front clips of sets 71722 (Skull Sorcerer's Dungeons) connect to a wooden dock model (seen below). The two Ninjago set's (the other is 71717, Journey to the Skull Dungeons) will be modified to have blue parts instead of orange and trans-orange for the bases and "lava drip" parts. I plan on using these sets, plus this dock, in conjunction with my other pirate ships, seen below. Inside the lower portion of Skull rock is the pirates treasure room, with gold aplenty and a few jewels. The upper floor is for the Captain Smithfield when not at sea. Here is the lighthouse proper. The wooden crane is for offloading cargo / loot off the smaller boats after leaving the big pirate ship. The spinning lens idea is from 70431 (Lighthouse of Darkness) from the Hidden Side theme. The front clips of sets 71722 (Skull Sorcerer's Dungeons) connect to a wooden dock model. (seen farther down the page) The two Ninjago set's (the other is 71717, Journey to the Skull Dungeons) are currently being modified to have blue parts instead of orange and trans-orange for the bases and "lava drip" parts. I plan on using these sets, plus all the custom dock / lighthouse parts for my island. This building model comes apart into three modular sections: - lighthouse, lower level (this is sleeping / storage area for the crew when not at sea.) - light house, upper level (storage area for whale oil for keeping the light lit) - actual light - (rotates around, though it's usually lit for use in misguiding ships onto the nearby rocky coral reef surrounding Skull Island.) The docks model also comes apart into three modular sections: - The working wooden crane (left side, which will be implemented into the lighthouse) - The corner with cannon (behind the others) - The dock extension (right side) Here is that unlucky monk today, with his one-shot pistol on Twenty-paces Island. (I'm getting a palm tree for this island.... still have to order the parts!) The whole setup of Skull Rock so far. The Minecraft-based Seacow, as captained by Peg-Leg Stevie. Not sure what to call this type of ship, though it kinda reminds me of the Santa Maria from Columbus' first trip. The brig Yago, as seen here and captained by Henry Smithfield. The Golden Bounty pirate junk, as seen in this topic and led by Captain Soto. (picture of Joly Roger goes here) Captain Hook's Jolly Roger isn't done yet, so no picture or topic... waiting on a certain flying boy for that. The Silver Crab is not built yet, but is captained by Bob "The Sponge" Squarepants and can be found here. This is the Hell Bent, and is led by Captain Victor "Jawbone" Blucher. It can be found here.
  11. Fort Arltrees, November 620, El Oleonda People called it "The Tavern", nothing more. The simple wooden building didn't have a real name or colorful signboard, but still everyone in the little settlement knew it... quite unsurprisingly, since it was the first real tavern on the island. The first wave of colonists had arrived on El Oleonda even before the end of the battle. Hunters and adventurers arrived first, though men looking for their fortune on the island, and ready to defend it weapons in hands. Soon, however, the ships started carrying also farmers and artisans, fishermen and priests... common people who decided to leave a miserable past behind, or who simple tried to improve their lives with a new start. Wooden houses replaced the first shacks, while the first shops and stores started opening their doors. And, among them, The Tavern. The owners, a young couple from Breshaun, had moved with a little money and a lot of enterprise. Currently the meals they serve are drastically influenced by what is hunted, fished or collected around Fort Arltrees every morning. However, the customers seemed to apreciate the sometimes strange stew served in The Tavern, especially if accompanied by a glass or two of Fatu Hiva booze... currently nothing was brewed in the settlement, even if a few guys down the main street were already trying something a boiler and an alembic. The settlement was growing at sight, with a certain satisfaction of the major, Lieutenant Marcel Dubois. With the new tavern, the settlement could already be considered a Town, and new colonists were arriving with every ship. After all, Fort Arltrees would have remained on the maps for longer then he had expected, and was quickly turning from a temporary camp into a real settlement. However, the political situation in the area was far from being calm... Carno was friendly, and had also provided the settlement some mercenaries, while the Lotii had signed a treaty and had withdrawn eastwards, at least for the moment. The Corrish declaration of war, however, concerned Marcel. For this reason, he had given order to raise a little militia, nicknamed "the Ragamuffins" from the untidy and customized uniforms of the soldiers. Corrish redcoats, however, were definitely far, and a real fight there in the East was quite unlikely. Life in the settlement continued exactly as before Corrish declaration of war, vibrant and colorful: a tiny market had started appearing along the main street, with new stalls sprouting each time. A fortune teller had also arrived into the settlement, a clear sign that money had started moving. However, she should probably make more favorable predictions, if she wants to keep her customers! The tiny colony established excellent relationships with the nearby villages, with Halosian and Tyree'De hunters and traders regularly visiting each other's neighbours. Quite unsurprisingly, some of the colonists took a local wife, while others left the settlement to live with the natives. An overall view of the scene: I will license it as a Large Artisan in Fort Arltrees, using the license awarded in the challenge. As usual, I preferred a downsized, minifig scale build to a microbuild, but please let me know if there is any problem. In this case the "excessive size" of the license compared to the build accounts for the overall growth of the settlement.
  12. I wanted to design medieval inn which is filled with life, guests and is actually playable. So it’s bigger than usual designs (maybe as big as some castle builds … but I like it the way :) ). Roof and main four windows are removable. If there is cold outside, you can sit next to the fireplace which uses lite cube for nice fire effect :) . As part of the build, there is a tree with sign which points the travelers towards the Inn. Stables are on the right side. Outdoors is filled with life and all kinds of pets (cat, dog, chickens and pig) which are all taken care of by lovely satyr. As one of the main goals was playability (I have kids :) ), I’ve deliberately didn’t use flat tiles on the floor and chairs. While very nice to look at, I know how unhappy me and my kids are, when we bump into our build and everything falls down. Tables and furniture has also few pegs to hold glasses and plates in place. Build has 2 800 peaces and uses different part on minifigures, old and new lego figures. I’ve already done few playtests with my daughter and Inn did well. :) I hope you will like it. You can check and support the build at https://ideas.lego.com/projects/805c3c81-efaf-418d-a4a3-c262251dee4a
  13. El Oleonda, March 620, Fort Arltrees Fort Arltrees is a small military outpost, nothing more than a rudimentary palisade surrounding some tents and a couple of large huts… this is how all the settlements begin: it strange to think, but even Breshaun, during its first days, was nothing more than that. Any real possibility of development, however, is delayed until the end of the hostilities, when the arrival of civilians, regular shipping of supplies and, in general, the construction of more permanent builds will be possible. Living in Fort Arltrees in fact, is something very, very dangerous: an attacker wouldn't do any distinction between soldiers and civilians. However, a place where soldiers have no way to spend their wages offers a lot of opportunities to merchants who are brave enough. Sutlers are civilian sellers who follow soldiers almost to the battlefield. Sometimes they are hated and considered profiteers, but they also represent the only ones who can provide anything beyond rations, uniforms and weapons: tobacco, paper and writing implements, candles, a good knife or a whetstone, a linchpin or a mug, even some liquors… these little commodities are not cheap, up to five times their real value, but they can make far more comfortable the permanence in such a desolate place. In Fort Arltrees the sutler's shop, actually a large stall with a few improvised tables, represents the only place where soldiers can spend their free time: it soon has become a sort of little tavern, a meeting point that the soldiers simply call "the store"... there is no possibility of mistake about which store, since it is the only one! Soon a little kitchen was established too: soldiers have to pay, but food is by far better than ordinary rations. Even if this little commercial activity drains money from the soldiers' pockets, it represents a fundamental step for the growth of Fort Arltrees: taxation on little activities like this one provides to the commander of the fort some extra funds for the development of further projects, such as attracting settlers and starting some little farms. This, however, will be only possible after the end of the Carno-Lotii war… provided that the settlement will survive that long! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the first economically relevant build in Fort Arltrees. I wanted it to be a very simple, provisory build, and I think I achieved the result… now I think that the next step is starting building something a little more sophisticated, maybe a blacksmith or a real canteen! Any idea? What would you like to see next?
  14. previously After the battle at Fort Cander, Eoin and his soldiers had set out for Cedrica. They had not left any survivors so they did not have to travel under cover, and they had all decided to stop at an inn before going to the palace for more information and a good night's sleep. Eoin had decided that he also need a drink, so he approached the bar and got in a conversation with the bartender. He also noticed the crown and guild colours which he had seen a lot in Cedrica. "Rumors?" said the bartender "Those aren't true! The queen would never do such things, where did you hear that!" "A friend told me" said Eoin. "I thought it seemed to fit, didn't she just get back from a trip to Nocturnus?" "Eye that she did, but it is still preposterous even with the Undead rebellions in Nocturnus!" replied the angry bartender. Eoin then took his drink back to his table, not wanting to start a fight or draw attention. Below are some more pics. C&C welcome!
  15. Avast ye salty seadogs ! Here is my introduction post with which I joined the Sea Rats! "It is the twelfth of June, 618. Lothario and Jacobo finally found the last half-brother their father had mentioned once: Alfie. Lothario was the oldest of the bunch and was the one who had a lot of sailing experience. He was the privileged brother to really have known their common parent: the infamous buccaneer Christopher Fraunces. He took Lothario when he received a letter from his dying mother in Quilbignon. Together with his son and crew they raided the Sea of Storms as true Sea Rats. His father never believed in kingdoms, settling or earthly belongings. His decisive personality led the crew of their ship "the Silent Rose" to gold, pleasure and fame until Christopher's sudden disappearance in a night sailing the Terraversa Sea. The crew looked for their captain but found only a half written journal in his cabins without clues, and quickly voted in a new captain. Lothario left his father's crew after arrival in Terraversa, he was the only one who could not forget his father and mentor Christopher. His only clue was the stories he told him about his beloved girls who gave birth to two other sons across the nations. And so he went looking. Jacobo, born in Terelli, only saw his famous father a couple of times when he was a kid. Jacobo grew up to be a natural salesman from a young age, buying valuable lost items in the harbours taverns and brothels to sell them with profit whenever he could, building up a small treasure himself. With this treasure he bought himself a passage to the new world where he quickly found his love for Eslandolan escapades and ended up on an exploring warship sailing from the colonies to the capital. Upon his return in Terelli he heard an Oleon sailor with his same last name was searching for his mother in Terreli, and he hurried to find his mother. His mother was unharmed, and after the siesta someone knocked on the door. It was Lothario, who told him he was one of his brothers. The two had a lot of catching up to do: Lothario told Jacobo about their father and why he chose to life his life like a Sea Rat. Lothario convinced Jacobo that night to forge an unbreakable brotherhood and to find their other brother to make their own destiny like their before them father did. It took the two a long time before they finnaly found where Alfie had settled. Alfie was raised in Arlinsport. His mother left him in a monastery, where he learned he needed to take care for himself very early. He was a fighter and gifted card player, which earned him quite the reputation and even won him his own pub in Breshaun: the Matelot Tavern. On the twelfth of June he played cards against a merchants' captain in his tavern in Breshaun. His opponents' unsportsmanlike refusal to hand over an alleged Ardmond Basker map he lost in a card game against Alfie was quickly handled. Alfie was not the guy to let the liar get away. At this moment his two brothers walked in his tavern and saw how the scourge was thrown out through the door they just entered. They stood directly in front of their younger brother. After a quick explanation they sat down in the corner table. With Lothario explaining and convincing the last brother, Jacobo became enthusiastic and together they convinced Alfie to join their bond. The three decided to roam the Brick Seas like their father did, with the hopes of glory, gold and a free life. Their first adventure would start with Alfie's Fortesque map. Now they only needed a ship." In this pic the personalities of my BotBS characters are summed up: I have licensed the tavern as a small (20x24 studs) Artisan. I would be very happy if anyone of you has any feedback! Greetings, Fraunces

  18. Previously: Chapter 1 Dramatis Personae: It was not a normal day in the Blue Lantern pub. With the absence of Captains Li and Cho Fang as well as Captain Fheng there was a power void among the pirates that frequented Rassilon. Captain Sulu, captain of the Golden Dragon was already famous for capturing many prizes. A number of the other captains were leaning towards making him their leader. Captain Sulu Captain Ching Shih had sailed for Li Fang for many months taking control of La Oleon when she was first captured and then The Viper after Li Fang died. Quite a few captains favored Shih. Captain Shih The pub had not been closed to local traffic, but most citizens knew better than to try to enter while the captains were vying for power. So when Sinbad strolled in it was met with some surprise. Everyone turned to watch him as he bought a drink and then raised it for a toast. "To the pirate captains!" he shouted. No one raised their glass. Sinbad just cocked an eyebrow and took a swig. "You may be wondering why I'm here," Sinbad asked. "Well, it's to make a business proposition." Just then another man walked into the pub. There was a gasp heard throughout the room. At first glance it had seemed that Captain Fheng was back from the dead. The man held an uncanny resemblance to the former captain. He said, "Whatever this scum has to offer you can wait. I am Captain Fheng's son, Francis Fheng and I have come to claim the right of Pirate Lord among you. Many of you sailed under my father's colors, now I've come to ask you to sail under mine. My father wanted to show the 'civilized' world how wrong they are for trying to tax and enslave us. We were meant to live as free men and I intend to sail against anyone who says otherwise. Who's with me!?!" As Francis was finishing his rousing speech Sinbad walked up to him and said: "Excuse me, I don't like being called scum." "You, you sailed with my father. Yet you weren't there when he died. That makes you scum and not worth my time." "Well you better make time. You see, it doesn't benefit me if everyone here sails under your colors. So I'm going to give you a choice." Sinbad pulled out a coin. "What are you getting on about?" "It's simple. We are all here by our own choice. I'm not making you stay or go. That's your choice. But I'm telling you that you better choose to leave." "Son, you're crazy! Get out of my way." Sinbad pulled out a pistol and everyone gasped. "Alright, if you won't make the choice. I'll make it for you. I'm going to flip this coin. If it lands as heads, I'll let you leave alive. If it lands tails you'll be leaving to go meet Davy Jones." Before anyone could react Sinbad had thrown the coin in the air. He caught it and looked at it. "Heads. You're lucky day." Francis Fheng turned and fled the pub. Sinbad turned to address the captains. "As I was saying before. I have a business proposition for you all." He walked back to the bag he had left and the counter and took it to one of the tables. All the pirates gathered around him, their former vying for power forgotten. "All of you sailed under Captain Fheng before his untimely death. As you know, he died fighting for what he believed in. That was his choice. I'm asking you to elect me as your Pirate Lord and to sail for something even better than beliefs." "And what's that?" shouted one of the captains. "Gold. There's lot more where this came from. I have it stored in safe location for now, but Freddy can validate my wealthy. He helped me bring it back for the forsaken island we found it on. Make me captain of the Priest's Bounty and elect me as your leader and I promise to make you all rich beyond your wildest dreams!" It was a unanimousmus vote. Sinbad was now Pirate Lord of all pirate captains in Rassilon.

The Sea Rats daring strike against the Eslandolian blockade-breaking fleet had been one of the most successful strikes in naval history. Pirates of all backgrounds and located all across the seas were celebrating. This was a decisive blow to the organized nations and their taxes, and to Eslandola in particular as the leader in profiting from the sweat of their countrymen. But for Sinbad, the news was bitter sweet. His captain, the venerated Captain Fheng, had been seen going down with the Jade Piranha during the attack. Sinbad took some small consolation in the fact that the crew of the Morning Fog had been put to the sword already. Yet, at the same time, this left him feeling empty. If the crew had remained alive, he could have sought vengeance on them, but even that had been robbed from him. Fheng had desired to show the civilized nations that it was better to be free than taxed, but was that what Sinbad wanted?
  20. Everywhere in the Avalonia there are small tavernas and inns for travelers, traveling merchants and pilgrims. What is it, after a long day on the street better than a good meal, music and a bit of a hardliqur and then a soft bed? So some travelers remain then a few days longer than originally planned. The "Hunters'man Inn" can be found on the map, a half day's march north of "Brachfurtheim" the Capital of "Fortes Isles" a small Island in the north of Avalonia under the rule of "Wilhelm Shelby" and lures with good dishes from the surrounding forests, music and the Hunters'mann whiskey known all over "Fortes Isles" and its borders. At the Black Knight's Inn

Attention! Since it took me nearly a year to continue this story, recent events have overtaken me. Therefore, this story part takes place before MassEditor's prelude story that is linked below. All links are in chronological order. Make sure to (re-)read it! Glance into the future Three Ravens At the Black Knight's Inn The Resistance Unites (by MassEditor) When you ran out of coin, get out of here! the host had said. “Always the same sad business. No one treasures the value of a wise old man anymore.” Perry Ratchett mumbled into his grey beard, while he stumbled out of the Black Knight’s Inn. Aye, that old hoax of the heroic black knight defending a bridge against a king and losing all his limbs, one by one. That was a popular tale here in the East. The old wizard wondered how the people would react when they were told that this very story served as a shining example of chivalry and ideal courage in Avalonia. “I’m too late again! Foolish old dunderhead. “ Ratchett thought. He had never been an excellent wizard. Often he had proven himself not even an average wizard. But, after all, he was one. It was not a matter of the prowess as magician at all, he was just unfortunate enough to live in a wondrous world that offered as much kinds of ale, vine and liquor as it housed magical miracles. But now he was on a quest. He had witnessed what may would be and no it was on him, Peregrine Ratchett, the purple wizard, to prevent this city and its lord from ruin. He could see his course clear, the first time for years he felt the weightiness of his role in the world. He now had influence on the lifes of many. And although he was well aware of the immense threat to come, Perry silently enjoyed the feeling to be of some importance again. This wizard was back into business. As soon as he set a foot on the rough cobblestone the wizard had found for whom he was looking. Several armed men surrounded him, ensuring there would be no escape. A tall rat furred with brown and white hair approached. His look was strict and hard. But for those who were able to listen, his eyes would tell stories of grief and sorrow, deeply immured in an will of iron. The wizard recognized him immediately from his vision. “What is thy business in this town, old man?” the rat lord said. “I was told of a wizard arriving, speaking of great matters; dark menaces toward. Now all I see is a drunken vagabond, maybe hoping to be kept by my household in return for palmistry and other legerdemain. Do not dare to waste my time by trying to fool me.” The old wizard had expected mistrust. But this rat proved to be amongst that kind of stubborn beings who wouldn’t believe in dragons unless they recognised the smell of their burnt skin, or fur in such a case. He had to take care of what to say:”You may take me for a drunkard an impostor. And whilst I cannot deny my flaws I affirm you that serious wizardry is my business. I am Peregrine Ratchett. And I am called the purple wizard. And not only for the colour of my hat, I assure you. That is just frippery.” The lord of Skavenport kept his straight face, while his companions bandied inquiring gazes. A very uncomfortable silence spread and lasted far too long. Perry realised that this lord was still waiting for his explanations, either to be convinced or for having a reason to throw him into the deepest dungeon of the city; “I have come to assist you by the quest that lies ahead of you. For I have seen what may will be, and I say you there is no time to lose!” Osric Isentooth’s face became even more sceptical: “And what quest shall this be? Gathering my troops, march out with all the banners of red and gold waving in the wind? Many souls in Nocturnus call for this. No day that I do not receive requests for assistance from this lord and that village. I have no need for another supplicant to tell me about the sorrows that plague this land. I know them. Call the town watch and chase this vagabond out of my city!” The wizard rushed towards Osric:”The Lord of Shadowmere is calling for you! Will you deny his request?” The lord’s face turned angry: “You should have heard the rumours on your pub crawl. It is told in every tavern; Vladivus is dead.” Ratchett’s lips formed a grim smile: “He is alive. At least as much as his kind can be. You will see. Assemble Skavenport’s army, my lord. March out and engage the Black Spire. You are not alone. Raavage’s craft is to cloud his enemies’ awareness. The resistance is still strong. But you must unite your forces. Separating the last strongholds of the Darklands, destroying the remaining free peoples of Nocturnus one by one is the very intention of the Spire. Unite your armies, reclaim the East from Raavage, and the other guilds will join you. Because this fight is not the mere battle for Nocturnus. If you fail it will conclude the fate of all Historica. Tis the quest I have foreseen, the quest you will have to face up to.” Osric seemed to stare into an abyss, when he finally spoke: “All what you say... it either makes you an egregiously able wizard, or an equally able agent of my foes. Either way, I will learn the truth. Into the dungeon with him!” Perry felt that everything had gone wrong. While he resigned himself to a longer phase of soberness, a black hooded messenger arrived, bowed shortly before lord Osric, giving him a small piece of parchment, before heading away in a hurry. The rat lord looked at the sigil in surprise, broke it and unfurled the writing. It took him a moment to come to terms with it. Then he looked at the wizard and spoke: “Bring him to the castle. Host him in the keep, but do not let him leave it. And keep him sober.” He turned to his two captains, a rat and a grim looking sturdy human: “I have to leave the city. Lord Vladivus is indeed alive, or correctly: undead. A council will be held in Shadowmere. A council of the Resistance. I have to go.” “Alone? My lord! Every swathe of land between Shadowmere and the Grimwoods is occupied by the Spire. Damn it! Every single bloody stone in the Moruth has a Spire soldier guarding it!” the human said indignantly. “I have to go. And no time to lose. But I am well aware of the dangers such a journey involves. Therefore you will escort me, Dunstan. Why shall I fear a thousand Spire soldiers with you roaring at them?” Osric responded. Visibly amused the other captain began to speak: “I rest assured that you will make the journey without harm, my lord. My dear Sir Dunstan is no doubt the loudest man in Skavenport. But what are thy orders to me?” “You, good sir Aethelrat, will procure that an army in readiness will await our return. Gather supplies, lade war machines and keep the city’s fortifications operational.” Lord Isentooth commanded. Then he turned back towards the purple wizard: “I am still in doubt about your intentions. I will concern myself with you when I return. But for the time being I shall not call you a liar; war is to come. Allies are calling. And Skavenport shall answer.” ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________- So far, thanks for reading! And I am deeply sorry about the low photo quality. It's impossible for me to get the right lighting for such a weirdly angled build.

The Jade Piranha Strikes Again! After killing the Fang family, Sinbad spent the next few weeks traveling from port to port gathering news. He didn't return to The Viper right away because he wasn't sure how he'd be received. He knew Li Fang hadn't been loved by his crew, but neither was he. So instead he traveled from tavern to tavern listening to the sailor's stories. He heard that instead of pursing him, the crew of The Viper actually ignored him. They just continued to patrol the seas for prizes. So Sinbad decided to try to join another crew. He wanted to join one that was making a difference in showing the nations that their rules were only shackling their people and that the Sea Rats freedom was the way to go. So he arranged a meeting with Captain Zheng who agreed to take him on as part of his crew. "I've heard of your exploits" the captain said, "How you killed the mutineers and then turned on your captain yourself. How can I trust you to act differently on my crew?" "Are you saying you don't want me to stop a mutiny if it should happen on your ship?" retorted Sinbad. "Don't play coy with me boy" answered Zheng. "I'm not like your last captain, willing to take insults from his crew. You know what I'm asking so give me the answer." Sinbad had already been able to tell Zheng and Fang were as different as night and day. Fang had been fearful and always trying to prove himself. Zheng was confident and self-aware. He answered the captain, "Sir, when I killed the mutineers it was because they only cared for themselves and not for the rest of their crew or their captain. When I killed my captain after I had exhausted all other options. He was so obsessed with himself he had stopped caring for his crew. I've heard enough about you to know you will never put me in that kind of a situation." And so Sinbad's career as one of Zheng's crew began. 24. Heroes, Villains and Legends A Journey Through the Discoveries of the Age of the Exploration: the Ships; the Captains; the People Volume Four: The Self-Styled and So-Called Sea Rats By Quentin Connors Chapter Thirteen: The Bleak Angel So it was that after that particular escapade I found myself again in Bastion, de facto capital of the Sea Rats. Unfortunately, I was also distinctly lacking in funds for further voyages to the newer colonies. Indeed, I was worryingly close to longer being able to retain accommodation for myself and storage for my manuscripts. Forced, as I was, to relocate myself I began to frequent a small tavern near the outskirts of Bastion known as the Lonely Lantern. After a few nights an unusually quiet group entered the tavern. This was a ship's crew, and fortuitously for me they were looking for more recruits. My enthusiasm was dampened but my curiosity piqued when I heard the captain's name: Leon Dracken. This was the crew of the Bleak Angel, a ship surrounded by all manner of tall and sinister tales. But still, I needed money and transport. Here, now, was a chance for both. After a couple more drinks I introduced myself to the ship's first mate, Alastair Jakes, and we discussed the notion of my joining the crew for a short time. To my relief, I was accepted. Little did I realise that Captain Dracken had been listening to the conversation. To Be Continued... And a "clean" look at the bar
  25. Ahoy Mates!!! This is the account of how I turned from this: 06 by Mengish, on Flickr into this: Captain Mengish (Prologue) by Mengish, on Flickr When I joined this gang of pirates sailing in the Sea of Thieves, I knew this was the kind of life I’d like to enjoy, though I also knew that it had entailed the perils I tried to avoid in the previous chapter of my not so noble life, back in Oleon. But, after all, once you are a pirate, everything you have done in your life is erased in the common memory of humanity. And you have one single title that arrives before you in every place. And this time, it arrived at a tavern built recently on a newly discovered island called La Sabre. The tavern was called The Blind Parrot, run by a couple emigrated from Quinsville, a colony established on Cocovia by the Corlanders. Although it was a newly built tavern, it had already attracted many from all corners of the BoBS. And our gang arrived on an afternoon in December, 616 AE. All we had done was undertaking some escorting commissioned by the Oleanders or Corlanders. We were pirates enjoying the privileges of piracy without doing anything pirate. I enquired several guys in the gang about this but they didn’t have any answer, nor did they have any interest in it as long as the Captain provided them with money. So after 5 shots of rum, or 8, I had the courage to ask our Captain about this. He was renowned for his discretion and I wasn’t hopeful for an answer, to tell the truth. But he, surprisingly, began to talk very cheerfully upon my question as if he had been waiting for this question for ages. “What I’ll tell you, son, is something no one in the gang knows. And it will not be long before you become the only one on this earth knowing about it. I can’t tell you a reason for our legal ways. But I can show you” said he, which only exacerbated my curiosity. He suddenly half-opened his shirt and showed me the reason to our recent legal ways. He had a large scar, stretching from his abdomen to his breast. “Is this a wound?” I asked. “No. This is the curse of God. I don’t have the any idea what it is. I went to this doctor in King’s Harbour. Even that bastard hasn’t seen anything like this. Can you belive? I have something unique in this world. And it is killing me.” That moment I understood all about the sedentary life we had been leading. But, what I didn’t understand was why he told me about it. He gave the answer himself, after another rum: “Look! I have one last command to give you as your Captain and, yes, belive me it will be my last command.” I was intrigued. “ I shall obey, Captain” I murmured. “If I die at this very moment, these bastards will disband the very next day and the name of my gang will all be forgotten. I knew, the day I captured you that you are the one to save this gang. You owe me a favour, you know. In fact, two. I want you to do two things before I perish. Now come closer!” He whispered two sentences and a question into my ear, which struck me like lightning. “I want you to kill me so these bastards will respect and take you as their leader. I am already dying, you see. Understood?” And before I took a breath and open my mouth for an answer, he stood up, kicking the stool I was sitting on. He began shouting, swearing and insulting me in ways I had never heard before. I was schocked and terrified. I was lying there in terrror when I heard him inviting me for a duel. And there were were, aiming pistols at each other. I had been a crook and had engaged in fights and stuff but I had never been part of a duel in my life. There was the audience as witnesses to this noble act and the owner of the tavern to manage this duel. Ballad of the Mighty I by Mengish, on Flickr Ballad of the Mighty I by Mengish, on Flickr It all happened in the blink of an eye and all that remained was the bitter smell of the gunpowder hanging in the air. I already knew about the result but the crowd was amazed on my victory as they knew about our skillful Captain, whom they expected to win this deadly match. I woke up from my thoughts after a while and headed to the fallen. I was pretending to be harsh but inside I was crushed. I kneeled to pick up the very symbols of my leadership, the hat and pistol of the late Captain. Then I turned to my gang, who were staring at me with confirming looks, and shouted out loud: “Now, get this sunken wreck away from here. And bring me a bottle of rum, boys!” Ballad of the Mighty I by Mengish, on Flickr Ballad of the Mighty I by Mengish, on Flickr Ballad of the Mighty I by Mengish, on Flickr I’d like to license this tavern, The Blind Parrot, as a medium business (artisan) in my settlement, Oydem, on the island of Sabre.
