Here’s my minfig scale MOC of the Charlemagne. (Charles The Great) I’m posting my MOC on this great Pirate MOC forum so this can also inspire other builders in the future. It’s a 3rd rate Téméraire class 74 gun ship of the line of the French Navy. It’s big brother was launched in 1807 in Antwerp under the Napoleonic rule in Belgium. It had a length of 54m (177ft) and a beam of 14,3m (47 ft). This MOC at about minifig scale counts 150 studs long from stern to the bow at it’s longest point and 42 studs at its widest point at the lower gundek near the main mast. Don’t know the brick count (never made it in digital form) but it took about 2-3 years to finish of which several months were spent on the rigging. I want to pay a small hommage to the builders of these lego ships who inspired me to build this lego ship which gave me hours of fun: Achille Gallus HMS Bulwark HMS Lively HMS Prince of Wales/Minerve HMS Victory Le Fleuron/Prins Willim Le Fourageux Phantom Pinnacle Rapscallion Revenge VOC De Ruyter USS Poseidon (And I’m sure I forget to mention quite a few superb ships on this forum, sorry guys) And a special thanks to the builders of : HMS Agamemnon for it’s colour sceme and stern technique HMS Enterprize for it’s hull technique and steering mechanism HMS Persephone for it’s modular build thechnique and it’s perfect composure at a it’s own (smaller) scale. [MOC] HMS Effortless 118-gun first rate ship of the line like victory

Ahoy my fellow captains, kind of a strange feeling to start this post, since I have been browsing this forum for more than a year now, admiring these countless pieces of art posted here. Actually, it's been my six-year-old son who constantly asked me to post our progress here - his father was a little shy and reluctant to do so, since he is never truly satisfied with his construction and still in awe regarding your astonishing models. But, you know, "Arrrrghh", what the heck, no need to hide anymore, I've been utterly in love with LEGO since I got my first bricks and can still vividly remember sitting on my child room's floor next to my brother, listening to "ALF" cassettes and (re-)build our barracuda for the 100th time.. The first pictures show the results of my sons' and my christmas-constructing period of 2016. Ever since, we weren't really happy with its form and as we were blown away by the exellency of ships like the "Le Fleuron" or the "Sang Royale" (and especially, of course, Cpt. Greenhair's unbelievably helpful ideas - THANK YOU, CAPTAIN!!), we wanted to do it differently this time. The pictures after the "Barracuda" show the process of our current project with the (according to my most patient, wonderful and tolerant wife...) fitting title "HMS Effortless". I think you know this feeling of always finding something to improve... lately, it's the positioning of the masts - the distance between the fore-mast and the mainmast seems to be too far. Please let us know what you think and where you see room for further improvement - my son and I are happy about every feedback! First the "old" Barracuda: And this is supposed to be legendary HMS Victory's "secret" sister ship, the HMS Effortless: (The balcony was my son's wish ) It's planned to give her full rigging, sails and of course the many missing details she deserves. it's always a question of time and money Here are more pics from her construction so far as well as more of the Barracuda. -
LDD/MLCad 13C Ahoy, gentlemen of fortune and guards of the brick seas. I haven't been on the forum for a long time and now looked over all your creations - they are just magnificent, all of them! I still feel myself like a novice in lego-building.. Anyway, Dunkleosteus' Shipyards are back with this harsh lady. Сonstructed a month ago, only now she has come under your considerate professional eyes. I think this is my last ship based on the prehab hull technology - this method imposes too many limitations. There are 3 type of cannons: - lightweight culverins - heavy carronades - long-range cannons Also you can see a mortar boat on board Maybe later, if I would find a possibility of rendering, the another ship, unusual and frightening, will drop anchor in the bay so that everyone can enjoy its menacing shape Thank you very much for your attention!

Ahoy! This is my first post here. I've been working on trying to get a realisticish looking ship built for quite some time now. Somewhere around 13 years or so. Construction of this ship started back in 2016 once I discovered this digital designer program. I would have made it in real life but I simply don't have the parts necessary for it. But I think this one has turned out rather well, definitely my best iteration of the ship. I have made about 5 IRL ships and 4 other ships in LDD before finally getting to this one and I am quite happy with the results. Definitely still more to work at improving, but I am happy with the progress made so I decided to share it and see what you guys think! :) Any comments, criticisms, or suggestions for future ships would be greatly appreciated! :) Without further adieu I present to you, HMS Mirabelle, 116 gun first rate ship of the line!

RecentlyI am a new member of Eurobricks and I have decided to share the building process of my brig, this is one of my first serious ship builds and I would really appreciate feedback and tips. It‘’s been a while since the last large warship left the Eltina Shipyards, one may wonder what was going on there, is the joke on the Eltinian laziness isn't only a joke? For those with a clear mind, they knew something big was under construction behind the walls, the reverberation of heavy machinery lasted all day long for several months, but last night, the busy shipyards became quiet all of a sudden. OOC: I started building this ship with Duc de Bourgogne and Algesiras for inspiration, and several other french ships of the line that I've found on the link given by Captain Genaro, which includes a tons of plans and infos on the ships of Age of sail. Rather than a historically accurate replica, she can be considered as a hybrid between the aforementioned ships, and she has certain errors too, the most significant one is the mizzen mast, which should be placed more towards the stern, I realized it at a fairly late phase of construction, amending it would require too much time, since the masts are fixed on the "keel" and there are a lot of plates and hinges between the decks, so I had to leave it as it is. The first 74-gun warship built by Eltina shiyards has lifted anchor: Front view of Le Fougueux Stern - Where should we set our course, Commodore? - Terra Versa, if you see no inconvenient. We'll meet with the rest of the fleet there. Some statistics of the ship: Overall length: 110 cm Height: 80cm Hull width: 26 studs I intend to license her as a class 9 ship. Thanks for viewing. Edit: I just realized that le Fougueux isn't the first class 9 ship of Oleon, we have also the superb le Monarque built by KB last year.

134-gun First-rate Ship-of-the-Line "HMS Resilience" HMS Resilience 1 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr The HMS Resilience is the newest ship from the Quinnsville Shipyards! Crafted from the finest timbers and meticulously built, the HMS Resilience proudly sails the Brick Seas under the Corrington flag as the most powerful and heavily armed ship ever launched. Spanning a total of 4 decks, she has a outstanding 134 cannons. One broadside would be enough to render almost any ship inoperable. Like her little sister the HMS Dominance, she has a mortar deck for besieging settlements or helping with jungle riot control if need be. She has a spacious cargo hold and a sizable magazine, so she can stay at sea for many months. It will be a little while before she is put into full commission, but when the time comes, the enemies of Corrington will tremble in their inferior vessels! Ahoy, ahoy, ahoy, finally and proudly presenting the first first-rate ship-of-the-line about to roam the Brick Seas: The 'Royal Philip' As one of the heaviest and most formidable ships-of-the-line in His Majesty's Royal Navy, the Royal Philip is naturally suited to fill out the role of an admiral's flagship. And flagship she is! At the moment, she serves under admiral d'Ancios as lead-ship of the Perennes Squadron, the one unit of La Royale stationed closest to Oleon's border with Corrington. During her active service of now almost four years, in countless maneuvers and fleet exercises, the Royal Philip has proven herself a powerful and – even more importantly – very reliable warship, with excellent sailing capabilities. A true asset. Rumors circulating in the Royal Court have it that soon she might be transferred to the colonies in an effort to strengthen Oleon's influence in the waters of New Terra. Such a step, however, would have to be very carefully pondered, as it would mean to noticeably weaken the nation's defenses against her northern neighbor. But regardless of where she will see service in the future, with her dedicated, veteran crew and her seasoned captain, the Royal Philip will surely fulfill the role entrusted to her – to guard the realm, protect the nations interests, and to proudly fly Oleon's colors on the waves! And some 10210-shaming: About: First of all, some numbers: 14200 parts length at waterline is 120 studs, LOA 171 studs, beam 29 each broadside fires 57 guns. Now, more importantly, no worries, y'all! Launching yet another ship-of-the-line is no act of aggression towards any of you. It's rather the result of some major confusion from my side. The upcoming Adventure-MCRA gave me the idea to send the Secretary of the Navy as ambassador to Mardier. But I got this idea only after le Monarque was posted and planned in for convoy duty, so I was in desperate need of an additional ship, and no lesser would be suited for such a mission. The Royal Philip is an enhanced version of a ship I posted several years ago, and her base is still older than that of Monarque, which is why Monarque's hull is smoother. Still it's here that I first made the switch to using hinge bricks instead of curved slopes for the part of the hull between waterline and lower gun-deck. Class 10 Third-rate Ship of the Line "HMS Dominance" HMS Dominance 1 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr The largest ship to come from the Quinnsville shipyards - rightly dubbed the "Dominance" - is a third-rate 74-gun Ship of the Line. HMS Dominance 2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr She is crafted from the finest timbers found on all of the Island of Cocovia and is well equipped for any occasion, whether it be sinking enemies of the Crown, patrolling dangerous waters, or transporting important dignitaries. HMS Dominance 4 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Before being launched into the Brick Seas, she was fitted with a copper covered hull to allow her as much maneuverability as is possible for a ship of her size. This is a ship that I have been working on for quite some time now! I put it aside for a while but decided to bring it back out and finish her up right. Hi mateys, last day to put the ship back into SHIPtember, so here goes: The 74-gun Ship-of-the-Line le Monarque Remind me again, Lieutenant Colonel, why did we have to sail to Eltina first? The timber convoy, Commodore, personal request by Seigneur Roseabeau. You know what they say about Eltinians... Yes, Eltinians... At least they did pick up the pace when we fired our chasers. Good times... Still, who does this Seigneur think he is. He's a royal Knight of the Realm after all, Sir. Isn't everyone these days?! Well, never mind. He better has some major progress to report tomorrow! Lieutenant Berneus, how far out from Breshaun? We'll make port within the hour, Sir. Excellent. Just in time to experience the city's famed nightlife... And one for size comparison: About: Well, this ship is loooong overdue for presentation, as it's been sitting on my digital shelf for quite a while now – some of you might even remember the origins. What's to say about le Monarque... maybe some numbers first: hull length is 111 studs, width 30 studs, number of bricks 9200+... and it should all be buildable. If I remember correctly, I started building this ship with some pictures of a French téméraire class ship-of-the-line for inspiration, but le Monarque is certainly not a historically accurate model. The weather is sticky and clothing becomes an imposition...the temperature is unbearable, people prefers to stay in the state of inactivity, however, what happened in the Eltina Harbour might have aroused their attention, a brand new ship of the line leaves the port and sails in open waters towards the horizon. But no, they are not excited by this spectacle, another two-decker, and than, what else? We have already three like this. This is fully understandable, one is a surprise, two is great, four becomes a habit. The Oleanders of the New Terra are accoustumed by the sight of tall ships. Neverthless, the Oleander leadership had the kindness to appoint a delagation to honour the maiden voyage of the Ardent, a 50-gun twodecker. And a dude with a shako, he looks definitely familiar... Smouth sailing, calm sea... But the weather can be capricious, l'Ardent sailing in rough sea. We'd better come back to port, quickly! Here's a view of the figure head. For this ship, I've tried some new techniques to represent the curve of the real ship, using hinges. I've also tried to build a roundish stern with hinges, as you can see on the last photo. https://www.flickr.com/photos/150321535@N08/albums Hi everybody, when I started to build a lego ship in summer 2012 the plan actually was to come up with a fourth rate ship of the line around 50 or 64 guns. But it became bigger and I added four guns per gun deck (two each side). So now I have a broadside with 28 guns on the gun decks and 9 guns on the main deck. That makes a 74 gun ship of the line. Not counted were two guns astern and 6 carronades (thanks to Admiral Bejaune for the design) on the poop deck. When it comes to the rigging I first wanted to use the classic Lego prefab ship masts from the old pirate sets. But the ship is too big to use them. I will use brick built masts, but it will last a bit I can show you pictures because I first have to buy round bricks. I hope Dread Pirate Wesley and Imperial Shipyards have nothing against me inspecting the riggings they used on their ships. Sometimes Its better to use wonderful details which allready were built than have to come up with new ones. Now I reached the point of not having any bricks I could use for my project so finally I have to buy some. Do you guys know a good online brick source where i can buy masses of similar bricks? [pid][/pid] 154D After more than two and a half years of research, design, and construction I am proud to present you with His Majesties Ship of the line Persephone. Many of you have been following her construction in the work in progress thread from conception and I thank you for your support and advice. This thread is intended to be a running series of projects related to this ship. Persephone was built as a means of presenting what life was like on a ship of the line in the 18th and 19th centuries. Now that she is finished, there are many stories that I would like to tell. For now though, I would simply like to present the ship: About the build, it is hard to say at this point but an estimated 4000 bricks went in to this project. Over 1000 of them are in the 64 brick-built cannons alone. From bowsprit to spanker boom she measures 162 studs, reaching a height of three feet. Under sail, she flies 14 custom sails. Many yards of 7 different kinds of string and yarn keep her masts and spars in place with no glue required. Other details about her construction can be found in the WIP thread, but please feel free to ask any questions you may have here. Since she now sits an empty oak, in order to properly tell her tale we must get the crew aboard. They are a lively bunch, and more than willing to answer any questions you might have about life at sea in a man-o-war. [pid][/pid] 159B Ahoy everyone! I'd like to present to you my main WIP, the first rate ship of the line Impérial. She's almost the size of Sans Pareil, measuring 116 studs in length at the waterline, by 28 studs width of the lower gundeck. Impérial is an offspring of Vengeur, which might seem like a step backwards. But she keeps growing. What you see here is actually Mk.VI, so she has undergone quite some change, and it surely won't be the last version! Because, in contrast to Sans Pareil's, Impérial's more “conservative” building technique is quite adaptive to new ideas and therefore a much better candidate to eventually be realized in bricks. The latest update included brick built gun ports, allowing me to have their insides in red (tried adding them to Sans Pareil as well, but it was hopeless...). Like Sans Pareil, she is modular. Additionally, smaller parts of the hull can be removed to give an insight look, which would be nice for a display. As you can see, she features a full set of cannons, 114 of them (which took ages to place ). If you look closely, you'll spot a new design of swivel guns! She isn't built to a specific design, but is rather generic. I tried, however, to give the stern a bit of a french look by making it round. Does it work? The middle windows in the stern galleries are in fact doors that can be opened from the inside to give the captain and the admiral access to the ship's balconies. By the way, meet part of the crew, proudly presenting Impérial's colors. The lower hull (waterline to lower gundeck) is now completely brick built, consisting of even more curved slopes. LDD HMS Victory (Ship of the Line) Suggestions needed WIP

Hi all! I am working on The HMS Victory in Lego Digital Designer and I have ran into a slight problem. The Bow/ Bowsprit. I'm trying to make this model to scale with the (Real/models) of the HMS Victory. On the actually ship it looks as if the bowsprit goes out until about the second deck and starts to curve. So far with no luck, I have tried to create a Lego Bowsprit with the same design. Does anyone have ideas on how I can create a bowsprit that's (on scale) and has the design of the bowsprit of the HMS Victory. -
Hi folks, actually I had planned not to build another ship before the start of the Pirates' Guilds. But then Sebeus' progress on his new frigate inspired me to take up my project of a new 74 gun design once again and deal with some hull issues... So, here goes, some WIP shots: The hull is build up in segments, connected by hinge plates, curved slopes (length two to four) shape the water line, side galleries are attached at the bottom this time, and I took Frank Brick Wright's advice about using telescopes for the balcony. My top concern about the hull in this state is, does it look too slim? The waterline lenght is 106 studs, the beam measures 26 studs. If so, should I rather shorten the ship, or widen it? Any kind of idea and feedback is most welcome! Thanks for watching.

[pid][/pid]158 C Ahoy! I'm proud to present to you my biggest project so far, the 120-gun Ship of the Line Sans Pareil. Construction began in January 2012, even before that of Vengeur, and I had finished her basic looks way before I finished any of my prefab hull ships. I started out in real bricks, but every budget has limits, so LDD had to do the rest. It did, and here she floats: Poor Redcoats. She is a modular build, as you can see here. And can hold a full interior. You can't really see it in this picture, but using some string the ship's wheel can actually be connected to the tiller, creating a working rudder (at least I hope so ). Furthermore, all the (brown) walls in the officers' areas are made to be removed to create a realistic battle environment. The key elements to her structure are these (old style) hinges. They are – unlike the new ones – completely flat and have hollow studs, which means they can be placed in half-stud distances, great for shaping, especially for that transition between the middle and upper gundeck. She's been my main project for a long time. However, she has always felt strange to me in a way, never was a true love-child. I can't really put my finger on it, maybe it's due to her obscure scale. Her waterline measures 116 studs in length (equaling around 90cm), length overall is 180 studs (1,40m), the lower gundeck is 30 studs wide. I guess that's roughly 2/3 minifig scale. So she doesn't qualify for that. But neither does she qualify for minifig illusion scale. I wouldn't even put her in the same category as Dread Pirate Wesley's excellent HMS Persephone. The relative height of her hull does bother me. But maybe it's mostly the SNOT technique I used for the hull but never really grew fond of, because it doesn't allow for adjustments nor to be fiddled around with... At least in LDD it is extremely frustrating ... Like for example I know the waterline clearly needs reworking, she's got to be lower and should enter the water at an angle of almost 90°. But in order to achieve this, I would have to change the entire base structure, not to mention all the hinges... It'd be an unbelievably time consuming act. I don't know if I'll ever update her. Anyway, she is a Behemoth, a monstrosity in some sense. Vengeur - First Rate Ship-of-the-Line on a Prefab Hull

Beeing a long time lurker I felt that with the new year having arrived it was about time to give back a little after I've received so much from you over the last years. To start with I present to you Vengeur. Originally starting as a little side project for something a bit larger (which I will present to you asap), meaning to function merely as a try and error platform for ideas and techniques, she kept developing more or less "by herself" and at some point I couldn't resist the idea of finishing her any longer. The original question in my head was, how many cannons fit on a prefab hull based model, without for the ship to look too odd. In this state she can carry 100 guns, plus each two bow- and stern chasers. I had a lot of inspiration from you here, especially thanks to the splendid Pirates' Index. But I kept missing a true prefab hull based, minifig illusion scale First Rate. As you might imagine, an acceptable tumblehome and developing techniques to create an "as wide as possible"-effect were my top concerns, as on a prefab hull everything always tends to be a compromise. The lower gundeck is 20 studs wide, whereas the quarterdeck measures 14. That is still very steep but the best I could come up with at the time. I have to say that by now she is almost two years old, has undergone major updating and transformed into what is now my main WIP. The main reason I first present her to you in this state though is to show you that from the start she was destined to be Bluecoat!
