Cantu's House Even a Pirate Has a Sweet Tooth La Oleon Captain's Cabin Tropical Fruit Decision Lumber Camp Freddy's Big Haul The Golden Dragon The Capture of "El Polla" Swamp Raid Pirate Lagoon Palm Tree Inn (this is being registered as a small Arts and Culture) The sea rats of Rassilon weren't big on anything that fell within the realm of cultured society. But one day an Oleander artist showed up who insisted that if he were allowed to bring a little bit of art into the pirate's lives, they would feel more enlightened as a people. He built a pedestal and began to chisel away some statues to grace the people of Rassilon. As the statues took form it was clear that it was an angel slaying a demon. When asked what the two figures represented the artist stated that the angel represented justice and the demon represented piracy. He said that he felt if the pirates of Rassilon had a permanent representation of what they faced if the persisted in their sins, that they may turn from their vile ways. The sea rats of Rassilon didn't like that, so that night they drowned the artist in quicksand and left him to dry on the beach. They added a few more touches to the rock-like artist and replaced the demon with him. Some say you can still see the eyes of the artist looking out in horror through the helmet they drowned him in. Now the sea rats say the piece of art represents how they make their own justice.

An unnatural calm has fallen over the Brick Seas. Sailing ships lie in harbour, pitch dripping from their rigging under the pitiless sun. Trade has ground to a virtual halt, with only galleys plying their way along the coasts, their rowers spurred by the incessant beating of the drum. Richard Walton, smuggler, has been trapped in Bastion by the lack of wind. He sits on the dock... and fishes. Robert: Hello Brother. How are they biting? I've brought you something to drink. Richard: Ahh, Robert. How very kind. How's business? Robert: For now, it's wonderful. The denizens of Bastion have little to do but eat and drink. But I fear they will soon run out of money, and there's precious few in this town to whom I'd extend credit. I can't help but notice the frigate moored across from you. Has the Corrington Navy come to haul us all off to jail? Richard: No such luck. I hear Corrington is cool and windy this time of year. No - I forget you're new here - she's the Nemesis. She's been under construction in the yard here for the last few months. She was delayed when Hurricane Stepho hit - the whole yard was washed out - but she's complete now. They just warped her over from the sheer hulk this morning. Now she's being provisioned. They must know something about this weather that I don't. Robert: So you're telling me that the Sea Rats have built a frigate? Don't you think that will cause some... shall we say... consternation among the other powers? The occasional smuggling and high seas robbery is one thing, but with a ship like that, no merchant will be safe. The Sea Rats will never be able to pass her off as commerce protection or whatever the latest excuse is. Richard: I don't know what they think. It can't come as any surprise to them. Everyone in Bastion knows - they've been building her openly with no real attempt at secrecy. If the intelligence services of the great powers are worth anything, they already know about her. What nobody knows is who has commissioned her. It seems like whoever is bankrolling her doesn't want anyone to know who they are. Probably so they won't risk arrest once she starts snapping up ships left and right. Even Phineas Studdington, the designer, doesn't know who is paying him. Robert: Phineas Studdington? The disgraced Corrington shipwright? Richard: The very same. He couldn't get a job in any reputable town after that incident with that Lord's daughter, but now he's here and he'll build for anyone who can pay. Robert: Well. All I can say - it's going to be a very interesting trade season. Assuming we ever get some wind, that is. Here are the real pictures with no set dressing. I have to admit I have a lot of trouble taking pictures of her. She's just too big for my crappy setup. One mini figure is included for scale (the elusive Phineas Studdington?)

Cantu's House Even a Pirate Has a Sweet Tooth La Oleon Captain's Cabin Tropical Fruit Decision Lumber Camp Freddy's Big Haul The Golden Dragon The Capture of "El Polla" Swamp Raid Pirate Lagoon Palm Tree Inn Statues of Justice Secrets in the Hold Pirate Dojo Rumors were rampant with word of a possible treasure, but specific details were scarce. Captain Li of The Viper was determined to be the Pirate who would be known for getting the treasure. His crew spotted a cog known as Barell Belly (not shown in this post) in the distance and he decided to see if they had any information about the treasure. Of course, being the kind of captain he was, he decided to torture the information out of the crew. As they approached the cog, they realized it was a whaler. Li sent a small number of his crew out to retrieve the crew who were harvesting the whale oil while the rest of the ship took care of the Barell Belly. The whalers had just finished slaying the whale so the long boats were still a long ways from their ship. This allowed the small party from The Viper to approach without suspicion as Li began his attack on the Barell Belly. Li had commanded the men to bring back as many prisoners as possible for questioning. But the party's captain had other plans. As soon as they were out of ear shot he told the crew, "I'm itching for a fight today boys! Now we're going to kill the lot of these whalers and have some fun with it! We can tell the captain they put up too much of a fight to bring any of them back alive. You all with me?" There was a chorus of "yes" from all the crew except Sinbad. "And you, Sinbad" asked the leader. "Can we count on you?" "You're the boss, boss" was Sinbad's reply. "Good, now let's give them what for!" Three of the men were dispatched with brutal quickness, but Sinbad kept hesitating. He never had any intention of kill his man. But he was contemplating his next move. He was in a right sticky situation and he knew it. All four of his fellow pirates wanted him dead. And he knew they probably intended to kill him here and now and make it look like he died in the fight. But how was he to get out of his predicament? "Please, I'm the captain, I can pay you a ransom" said the man Sinbad was holding at gun point. "Just don't shoot me and we can both come out of this with what we want." Sinbad called over his shoulder to the leader, "Boss, he says he's the captain. Maybe we should take him back to Li for questioning." In that moment Sinbad knew what he was going to do. How had he ended up in this situation to begin with? He had chosen it. He had chosen to join a pirate crew because he didn't want to live by the rules his family and country had dictated he must follow without consulting him. His whole had been planned out and regulated without so much as a thought as to what he might want. So he had left it all behind to join a crew of men who made their own way in the world. He had even chosen to serve Li over his father Cho, as little as he liked to admit it, when he left Cho in prison. Being a pirate was really about being able to chose your own way, and dealing with whatever consequences there might be, good or bad. Sinbad was going to give this lot a choice. They could obey the captain's orders and bring this man back to Li alive, or they could chose not to and face the consequences. The boss called out, "Now Sinbad. We agreed, are you going to make this difficult for us?" The other men started to turn towards Sinbad so he made his move. Sinbad shot the first man in the face blowing him backwards. Then he leaped across the whale's carcass grabbing one of the harpoons on his way across. "You all had your chance!" shouted Sinbad. "You shouldn't have chosen to cross the captain and kill me." And with that he threw the harpoon through the flesh of the last pirate. His dirty task finished, Sinbad tied up the captain of the Barell Belly and sailed back to The Viper, still carrying the harpoon. OoC: Since I know someone's going to ask, the harpoon is from this set. Not a common piece, but I ran across it while I was making a Bricklink order awhile back and decided I really wanted to use it as a pirate weapon. And the orange hair is from the new Beauty and Beast set.

Cantu's House Even a Pirate Has a Sweet Tooth La Oleon Captain's Cabin Tropical Fruit Decision Lumber Camp Freddy's Big Haul The Golden Dragon The Capture of "El Polla" Swamp Raid Pirate Lagoon Palm Tree Inn Statues of Justice Secrets in the Hold While Cho had been secretly hiding out in Rassilon he had contemplated his mis-fortune. His own son had left him to rot in a Mardien prison. His men had essentially mutinied against him and no one had come back to rescue him. He wanted his ship back and he wanted a crew to command. But as long as he had no gold, neither seemed like a reasonable possibility. While in town he heard the rumors of a treasure fleet bound from Nelisa. He decided to visit his old Sensei. He know that if anyone in Rassilon had information on the treasure, it would be him. "Sensei," said Cho, "I see you are still training men in the ways of martial arts. It seems that even Sea Rats can be taught discipline." "Yes," replied the Sensei, "You would do well to remember your old lessons. You seem to be lacking in discipline yourself these days if the rumors are true. Not even able to hold a crew together eh?" "Sensei," said Cho, "It was not I who lacked the discipline, but my son. He's the one who choose his own way rather than submit to me. But that's not why I'm here." "But it is why you should be." answered Sensei. "You think that treasure will buy your way back into power, but what you don't understand is that you are working with pirates. They exist because they do not believe submitting to their authorities is in their best interest. They want to choose their own way and reap the full rewards of it without having to share with anyone else. That is what your son understands and you do not. Sea Rats will not submit simply because the honor demands it. But they can have honor in their own way. If they respect the Pirate Code and their fellow men who uphold it, that is a kind of honor. But enough of my prattle, as you said, it's not why you're here. Come inside and I will share with you what I know of the treasure."

He still didn't like the idea about killing Corries and Ollies in cold blood, but the two groups had been about to slaughter each other at the lagoon so what difference did it really make? Left to their own devices, one of the two parties would have killed the other and then turned their attention on the Sea Rats. The recent Pirate Purge had shown that to be true. Just because they didn't want to follow a tyrannical king or pay heavy taxes to an unfair trade company the Sea Rats were labeled villains and scallywags. Perhaps he didn't agree with Li's methods, but he couldn't argue with the results. There was much Sinbad still wasn't sure about. He didn't know if serving under Cho had been better than serving under Li. Both men commanded respect and under both men the crew had seen gold flowing into their pockets. But under Cho there had been no expression of their freedom from the chains of the ruling nations. In truth they had acted little different from one of the Empire's lackeys while under Cho. Under Li they at least showed the Empires that they were free men, free to earn their money the way they wanted to. But was slaughtering men in cold blood really the best way to do that? Sinbad had been lost in thought as he walked through the hold but when he heard voices he stopped. "Listen men, we can't keep following this joke of a captain" said the man in the hat. Sinbad recognized all four of the crew members, even in the dim light of the hold. It appeared not everyone shared his view that Li's results were good ones. "He keeps sending us on wild goose chases!" the ranting continued. "We need a captain who actually has a plan, not just one who's out for his own personal glory. What does his glory get us? Not more gold, at least not for us!" "I say we bide our time until his back is turned and we push him overboard!" said one of the other pirates. "Naw, everyone would know who did it. We gotta make it look like an accident" said another. "Then we're all agreed. We'll find a way to get rid of the captain. Then we can get rid of his runt, that Sinbad" finished the boss in the hat. Well that wasn't something Sinbad expected to hear. The crew thought of him as a stooge for Li? Sinbad thought he had become a respected member of the crew. Could it really be that they just feared him like they feared Li? And no matter how much he disagreed with Li's methods, he wasn't about to let a bunch of low-life scum take him out. He would have to think of something. And soon.

Others who had not been as lucky, paid for the smallest room. The individual in the smallest room was trying to stay out of sight. Log Entry, Captain Benjamin Morgan, Isla Del Diablo Bit by bit the dense jungle reveals more grisly secrets. My men were exploring the edge of the pristine boondocks, where the slander palm trees slowly begin to make way for larger exotic trees, when they discovered an ancient weathered shrine. With faces pale and a cold shiver running down their spine they stared at two strangely deformed heads, parched but not rotten, with their lids and mouths sewn up. The most curious aspect of these is their size; they are shrunken to miniatures. Did they belong to an unknown race of dwarves? Or was it black magic, lurking in the deep of this diabolic forest? And the most important yet most fearsome question: Who was it that did this godless atrocity to those poor souls? I see myself forced to lead an expedition into the unholy heart of this mystery one day. Something menacing is lurking in the shadows of Isla Del Diablo... ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I'm going to license this as small cultural property. I found it far better fitting for a cutthroat pirate island than some kind of high cultural building in a pirate town. Also I finally wanted to do the name of this jungle justice Thanks for looking!

"It appears he captured a prize last month!" Over the past couple months Sinbad had become somewhat of a confidant to Li. Their conversation never become too personal, but Sinbad found himself more privileged to Li's rants than other members of the crew. (please note that the above picture is from a past build) "Why is it that Captain Sulu gets famed as a notorious pirate and I'm left running guard duty for some merchants!" shouted Li. "Captain, we did bring in a prize of our own not that long ago, and a much bigger prize than that little merchant boat Sulu acquired" replied Sinbad. "It's not the prize that matters Sinbad," countered Li. "Hasn't serving as a part of my crew taught you at least that much? It's about the fame. That was something my father never understood." "What do you mean?" asked Sinbad. He thought they had done pretty well for themselves over the past couple months. Though he thought that while serving under Li's father, Cho. The greatest difference he had noticed between from serving under both father and son was that the crew seemed more calloused under Li. Cho had a way of making people want to follow him. Li just made them fear him. "People need to fear my flag" Li said, interrupting Sinbad's thoughts. "If other captains fear me, they won't put up a fight when we attack. They will know it's better to surrender than face the dreaded Captain Fang!" "So what are you going to do?" inquired Sinbad. He was a little worried about the evil glint in Li's eyes. "The nations need to know I'm ruthless. It's time I showed them just how ruthless I can be" was Li's response. "I purchased some information in a tavern the last time we landed that told me where a Corrington expedition is going to be. I want you to take some of the men and make sure they disappear.: "Me sir?" asked Sinbad. "Why me? I have no rank or standing with the men." "Ever since I left my father to rot in that Mardien prison, I've heard murmurs amongst the men" answered Li. "I don't know if I can trust them, but I think I can trust you." Sinbad still hadn't figured out why Li trusted him. He had spoken out against leaving Cho when the choice was made, but neither had he supported it. For now, he wanted to continue to take advantage of Li's trust for he didn't know when it might come in useful. "Take a few men to these coordinates" continued Li. "Make sure the Corries don't survive. I want everyone to know exactly what kind of man Li Fang is!" Sinbad had killed before when they were defended themselves or taking prizes, but never in cold blood before. He wasn't sure he agreed with Li that to be feared one had to be ruthless. He was still thinking over these matters as he a three others from Li's crew waited in the marsh for the Corrington boat they had spied early. The expedition was being led by the unfortunate Captain Stasch. A man already known for meeting misfortune. Sinbad signaled for the attack and he and the others popped out of the swamp. The fight was short. The two soldiers were killed quickly. Captain Stasch, at the first sign of trouble, flung himself over board and made a daring escape. Sinbad did not feel bad that Stasch had gotten away, but failed to report that reflection when he was debriefed by Li.

Log Entry, Captain Benjamin Morgan I heard word in several pubs and taverns in Bastion, that latewards a mysterious island had been discovered south of the Nest. Rumour had it that this barely explored isle was covered with dense jungle, hiding ghastly things in its deeps. Tales of a wild people came to our ears, men who used to serve any stranger who entered the land of their gods- either boiled or raw. But there were also rumours of large banana trees, countless springs of fresh water, fertile soil and forests filled with more game than any man could ever hunt down. Surprisingly none of the aspiring empires had claimed the land so far. We soon came to the decision that the promises of this island were too tempting to not risk an expedition. Too late to abort the journey, at the pier we heard the name that was given to it. Isla del Diablo, Devil's Island. Unimpressed by the gossip of the sailors we set sail to unknown shores. The sea was calm and the winds in our favour, and after one night and one day, Isla del Diablo came in sight. Although we could see the entrance to the large bay, that had recently be named "Bay of Horns", I gave order to surround the island in the hope that we would find a yet undiscovered part of the coast that was eligible for going ashore. I was in no way eager after joining the settlers that had already arrived in the bay; too soon it would be confined and cramped and well known to every man east of Terraversa. We eventually found a small beach area in the middle of a long cliff that appeared to frame nearly all of the eastern shore. The dense jungle was perilously leaning above the cliffs, blaring out a silent threat against every intruder. Dim scrub came down to the beach reaching almost to the calm billows touching the sand. Now it was time to release the first settlers into their uncertain fate. Even if it would emerge that this paradise really was the purgatory on our continuous way to Hades, we could at least feed on them...

This is pretty much my first real attempt at landscaping, so please bear that in mind. The Shrines of Haven As the town's name suggests, Haven was founded with the idea of providing a sanctuary to those Sea Rats who found themselves following Roland Blaze and the exploratory fleet. Blaze asked for little but the willingness to help defend each other. Consequently, quite an eclectic assortment of faiths wound up being practised in Haven. Until suitable separate structures could be built a small communal shrine building was put up housing four of the largest faiths in the settlement. The north facing side houses a shrine to Oleon's triumvirate. Facing east sits a dedication and ritual sun dial for the worshippers of Helia. The southern side is home to idols representing the Mother of Creation and Serpent of Destruction. The western facing saw the installation of a shrine to the Truachesh neh Triuri. However, some faiths are practised away from the light of day. The discovery of a cave and pool beneath the knoll represented a significant opportunity and one of the last Blackwater Witches set up a shrine to their sinister patron.

Dramatis Personae: Currently, at Rassilon... It appears that Lucy has finally set up her martial arts studio. It certainly looks imposing. I especially like the strength projected by the dragon head. If I wanted to learn how to fight, this would certainly be the place to do it. MARKETING!!! Anyways, shall we go inside and take a look? He says he's looking for work, but I know he's spending all his time hanging out at the local tavern with the guys being a good for nothing! Mmm-hmm. So your husband is a loser? Yes! My mother was so right about him! I should have listened to her! And on top of that he snores! So not only is he a loser, but he prevents you from sleeping, as well. Let me jot this down. IN THE DOGHOUSE!!! What's all this?! What are you doing?! You're interrupting a private session! I thought this was supposed to be a martial arts studio! You stupid professor! I told you that this was a marital arts studio! What do you even think I study? You're supposed to be my advisor! Given that you're Asian, I figured it was some sort of martial arts. First, we've gone over this. There is no Asia in this world. Second, that's racist. Third, no serious accredited and internationally recognized institution would give out a doctorate in the martial arts! What world are you living in? Then what do you study? Psychology, you stupid professor! This is my office where I conduct couples counseling! This is fantastic! I'm glad that you're offering the Sea Rats access to psychological guidance on this island. SENSEI-TIONAL!!! @$#%%&*^*@#%%&*#$@#$#^%#$#!!! Comments and criticisms are all welcome!

The keen eye of the Novitius's Captain saw how the curves of the land matched the map he had been given by his employer. Having sent his crew ashore in the rowboat, he was happy to hear they had struck gold! Though the haul held many treasures, by the time the crew and others split their shares it was a lot smaller of a portion for each man. Yet, no one was complaining! I know it is a bit late, but I figured I would post for feedback/criticism at the very least!

The crew of the Wight Spider sensed a tremendous opportunity on Ilse de Romantica. After all, Grayther Drave would pay a handsome fee for native treasures - and no doubt sell them on to buyers on the mainland for a small fortune. That part mattered little to Gascoigne, leader of the small mercenary band known as the Spiders. All they had to do was liberate those treasures from their current owners. Sometimes Gascoigne wondered if he and his crew enjoyed violence too much. A bottle of rum in their newly rewarded home soon put those thoughts to sleep.
