hey all! I was recommended I come try asking here about this wheel variant I found in my collection (on the right in the image) initially I thought it was faded or something, but the blue eyes and lack of anything where the yellow is makes me wonder otherwise. All the other coloured wheels ive got match the one on the left. Is this a variant? a factory error? something else? and are there more like it? thank you!!

Hello, We have technics roboriders 8509 to 8514 with their instruction books. What we don't have is the instructions for the combinations of any of these which are listed on the back of each booklet. As an example there is a model which combines 8509, 8510 & 8513. Is there a very old resource for these instructions please? Any suggestions will be super-helpful. Thankyou Neil -
Review: 8515 RoboRider Wheels Item number: 8515 Pieces: 4 Original RRP (2000): $1.99 In the year 2000, Lego's RoboRiders line was teetering on its last legs, but it wasn't ready to drive over a cliff with a brick on the gas pedal just yet. Not only was the penultimate The Boss set released, but Lego also started producing these mixed packs of RoboRider wheels, much like what was done with Slizers and of course, Bionicle. Each little box contained four, randomly selected RoboRider wheels, in not only colours included in the sets, but also two exclusive colours; trans. orange and black. Box As you can see, my copy of the box is in very poor shape. This here was a recent eBay win - £1, with £3 p&p. I was quite chuffed with that bargain, as you can likely imagine. The front of the box has a cool graphic, featuring the RoboRiders logo imposed over a grey RoboRider wheel. The glowing details within the center of the wheel are really eye-catching. A small graphic clarifies that the box contains four wheels. The sides of the box show the eight characters that can be found on the wheels. I really love the art style to these guys - they remind me of chibis, or SD Gundam figures. It's also worth noting that a couple of them have Lego-inspired detailing, which is nice. Also worth noting is the coloured hoops around the characters - these represent the possible colours of wheels available in the box. This brings back some memories. The top of the box provides the URL to the RoboRiders website, which is of course no longer online. I believe there was an online game available on the site back in the day, which one could use codes gained from the RoboRiders toys with. And finally, the back of the box. I shan't show you the bottom, as it's just boring legal information. Anywho, the back of the box shows us all six of the canister-sized RoboRiders, and demonstrates the wheel firing function with the Power RoboRider. On the left is an illustration pertaining to the vicious ice region of the RoboRider world, and on the right is what I assume to be the scene of a volcanic eruption. These illustrations are a nice little bonus, and help to set the scene for the wild world of the RoboRiders. The back of the box opens up as such to reveal the inner contents. Originally, one punch out the perforated tab to open the rear flap, but I wanted to be a little more careful... And failed miserably at doing so. But anyway, as you can see, the box is more that spacious. I'd expect some form of literature, like a small poster of pamphlet, to fill up all the empty space. But, I guess the boxes were made bigger so as to fill up more shelf space and seem more prominent. Contents While the contents of each box is different, I though it'd still be fun to take a look inside. As promised by the box contains four individual wheels, randomly selected. I got the Laser character on a yellow wheel, the Fuel character on a grey wheel, and the Dynamite and Flame characters on trans. orange wheels. What's interesting - and exciting - is that, as I mentioned earlier, the trans. orange wheel colour never appeared outside of these wheel packs. Just for kicks, here's those trans. orange wheels on the Power RoboRider. Overall If you were a kid, teen or adult who had been collecting the RoboRiders back then, these were certainly a fantastic bonus item. Before these packs were released, I assume the only way one would complete a collection of RoboRider wheels would be to buy multiple copies of the sets, so it makes sense that the boxsets were produced. The inclusion of two exclusive colours to the mix is a fantastic bonus too, and I'm glad that I personally got a pair of trans. orange wheels. However, I feel that one thing that could've improved these things would be the inclusion of something other than the wheels. Maybe a head piece, or a wheel shooter, or maybe just a small poser or pamphlet. As it stands though, these little things are pretty nifty, but I wouldn't actively go hunting for them on eBay though - RoboRider wheels are very easy to find on Bricklink for very little money. But, if you do find one cheap, I say to bite - you never know what you might get!

Boss RoboRider - Modern Version Built to keep my modern Dust RoboRider company, this 'bot takes cues from the original Boss RoboRider, while being very much its own entity. With working sets of treads with individual shock absorbers, guns which swivel together*, and a streamlined Tumbler-esque design, this is one of my favourite MOCs I've come up with this year. On your mark, get set! We're riding on the internet! For those who aren't aware, the RoboRiders was one of two predecessor lines to Bionicle, and was launched in 1999 as a successor to the previous (and my personal favourite) Bionicle precursor, Slizers (otherwise known as "Throwbots" in the USA). According to Brickipedia... In regards to build, the RoboRiders were Technic-based, using a range of specialist pieces to form some semblance of a universal system, with two main kinds chassis and a universal front axle assembly. But these days, Technic has largely done away with highly specialist parts, with only a handful of designs breaking that rule. As for action figure franchises, the CCBS has certainly taken the reigns, and likely won't be letting go ever again. So, if RoboRiders were to return (and I'm not implying that it will), how do you think it would be done? Or rather, how would you like it to be done?

Hey everyone! Noticed that we don't have a thread like this, so here I am creating it. Here, we should discuss the figures that were the predecessors to Bionicle - Slizers/Throwbots, Roboriders, and Voodoo Heads. Maybe we could even discuss other figures Lego has done through the years, such as the dolls from Scala, or Technic Figures. Should be fun!

I'm wondering, does anyone have the instructions for the various RoboRider combo models? As in the ones that use three or more? I've spent quite a while looking for them, but they aren't really available anywhere. Does anybody have them, and if so, could you post a link? These are very rare, so you'd be doing every Lego constraction and Technic fan a favor.

Hi there, I find it tremendous that people still whorsphip the old Legofigures. My question to you is if there are any people collecting RoboRiders or Bionicles. I find it would be a shame to give them away to some sort of institution, where they would be treated as "Old Toys". So are there any people who seriously collect them ? I still have lying around some of these Figures and as well some golden Wheels and golden Masks and some of the Slicers. Thank you for your Feedback.

The Robo Riders was a very short-lived theme. But does this mean that this theme was really that unpopular? Well you'll soon find out by reading this review of... Introduction The Robo Riders theme came out in 1999 to replace the Slizers theme. When it was discontinued in 2001 with only seven official sets ever released, it was replaced by the present Bionicles theme. So was the theme discontinued due to a lack of popularity or were the sets actually quite good? Well... first impressions are always wrong, right? Set Information Name: Power Set Number: 8514 Theme: Technic; Robo Riders Year: 2000 Minifigures: 0 Pieces: 32 Price: $USD6 Links: Brickset, Bricklink, Flickr Canister This set comes in a canister similar to the Bionicle sets, but this canister is round whereas the Bionicle ones are more ovoid/ lemon-shaped. The Robo Rider of this set is in a nice position, showing off its weapons. In the background you can see the wrecking ball of a crane and some kind of dark grey city. I think this canister looks great as it's simple and not too cluttered. On the back of the canister, on the left there is a list of the other Robo Riders and a demonstration of one of the play features in the middle. On the top right there is also a small blue oval which reveals a code when exposed to cold temperatures. This code is supposed to be for a Robo Riders game. Here's a close-up of the different sets in this sub-theme. As you can see, all of these sets are named after some element: lava, swamp, frost, etc. That's why this set is just called "Power". The lid of the canister might look quite simple, but it's actually quite interesting. I'll show you something about the lids later. Parts This set only has a small amount of parts: 32. However, there are two rare parts. The Technic block with Robo Rider power pattern only appeared in three sets. The 7x2 pin connector block has only appeared in this set in yellow. Instructions The instructions have the exact same background as on the canister, but without the set information. Unfortunately, my instructions came in a rather crumpled state. The instructions are the perfect size for a small set. Most of the steps in the instructions don't have piece call-outs, but for some steps there are 1:1 pictures with the pieces need for that paticualr step. The steps are easy-going and not at all complicated. Inside the instructions, there's another list of the different Robo Rider sets. This page looks really colourful because each of the sets are displayed with a background of their element. I like how there are jagged lines to separate them, instead of straight lines. There's one alternate build in the instructions, which can be built using sets 8514 (this set) and 8512. If you look closer at the black circle, you'll see that it's actually the canister lid. It's definitely interesting to see that the lid has a different function, other than for closing the canister. And on the back there's more alternative builds, but you have to combine more sets for these. Once again, this builds also make excellent use of the canister lids. The middle model looks wacky with so many colours and a combination of two lids to make one giant wheel at the front. Posters Inside the canister, we also find a poster. The first side has the alternate model made with 8514 and 1812 on it. It looks terrific with half of one Robo Rider's element and half of the other's, forming an amazing background. The other side has ads for other LEGO Technic sets. Yes, that's right, there used to be LEGO Technic Star Wars. You might have already known, but it came as a total surprise to me. This is a close-up of one of the Star Wars ads, the Destroyer Droid. It looks quite a lot like the actual droid. The Set From an angle, this set looks superb. I really like the piece with the Robo Rider's face on it as adds character to the vehicle. The piece is printed, not a sticker which is another plus. This is the right side of the set. It looks okay really, but is a bit plain. The colour scheme blends in well though and I like the plasma cannon on the side, because of how simple it is. The cannon is just an orange cone on a Technic connector block, but still ends up looking like a deadly weapon. Now the left-hand side. It looks almost identical to the other side, except there isn't a cog on the front wheel and both wheels have printing here. The front wheel is covered by the cannon, but you can see that the hind wheel has some sort of red and orange printing on it. I would have liked it if there could have been printing on the right side as well to make it less bland, but the designers would have to have removed the cog and found some other way to hold the wheel in place. Now that we can see the back wheel closer, it is revealed that there is some sort of black and red asterix and two lines of three eyeballs, and other things printed on. I'm not quite sure what the printing is supposed to be but it looks brilliant. From the front, the Robo Rider face looks really striking and the predominant colour here is black, making the yellow piece for the face looking out of place, floating on all the black pieces. Play Features There are two play features in this set. The first feature utilises the yellow handle near the back. You just have to turn it and the body of the Robo Rider is lifted up and the cannons start to point upwards like this: You can keep turning the handle until it reaches this point. Then the handle can still be turned until the vehicle goes back to the original position. The second feature is the disk launcher. This feature has four simple steps (Pictures of these steps are underneath) : 1. Slide out the wheel holder. 2. Pull down the sides of the wheel holder. The wheel should no longer be held in place. 3. Pull the wheel holder upwards. 4. Let go and let the wheel fly. I think this feature great to have but it doesn't always work. But when it does work, the wheel does fly quite a distance. Ratings Parts: 6/10 - There are only two rare parts in this set and the rest are normal Technic parts. Design: 6/10 - For me the design is only just okay. The colour scheme is excellent, but this set still looks a bit bland. Minifigures: N/A Playability: 7/10 - For a set of this price, two play features is great. The handle for lifting the RoboRider is useful for aiming the cannons, but it would be better if the disk launcher worked a bit better. Value: 7/10 - This set is good value for the pieces included and the number of features. Overall Rating: 6.5 This is a great set with a solid colour scheme, but I think there could have been a better design. If you really like Robo Riders then I would recommend this set to you, but apart from that there isn't too much incentive for buying this set.
