Galaxy Explorer 10497 is a great set, but...

Let's stablish something before I start typing. I love 10497 and I think it pays homage to the 1979 version. So I'm not saying it was bad, but it could be epic. Here are some highlights to prove my point. 1.- Too many G.E. redesign MOCs. I´ve seen maybe a hundred Galaxy Explorer remakes in the last 5 years, but I saw one in particular reviewed in a youtube channel, before they released the 10497, which had almost the same features and even had retractable landing gear. So for me the 10497 is the perfect Galaxy Explorer MOC. But was something we been seeing for years. 2.- "Too small" remake. 1245 pieces is a lot of pieces for a set, but, if you compare that amount of pieces with 10305 Lion´s Knight castle's 4514 pieces castle "remake", it feels short. Imagine what the designer would be capable of if he had those 3250+ pieces to work with? 3.- Landing pad and base. The achiles heel of 10497. The ship design is magnificent, However, even the designer of the set stated that he had to leave out the base and landing pad. A true shame. 500 more pieces and two 48 x 48 baseplates would made a world of diference. 4.- New trans yellow pieces. We already had a large 13252 trans yellow windscreen from 70816 Bennys spaceship..... also all the other trans yellow pieces in the set had been released previously. Something Classic Space fans are always looking for are new elements in trans yellow color, since is rare Lego Group uses them in sets and even more rare realeases new ones. Let's be honest here, wouldn't you like the set even better if there were 1x4x3 panels or a large curved windscreen never before released in trans yellow? 5.- Shock and Awe factor. The helper droid was a great add on and the best option they had since benny already used the other type of 80s droid. The rocket sleds were a shock and awe add on to the original ship. So I have nothing against those new features, but it could be even more features in it. Ever felt butterflies when entering the toy isle at your local walmart or Kmart back in the 80s the first weeks of january? You didn't knew what to expect form the new Classic Space sets back in the good old days. New features, new designs, new pieces.... That's the problem with the 10497, you already had a prelimilar idea of what to expect and that was the main problem with 10497, I feel the base had more potential to include new features than the spaceship itself: Retractable dome roof landing pad, modular base, maintenance machinery, loading-unloading crane, new color astronaut, minifig, a small blacktron spy vehicle, I can go on. Bottom line, 10497 is a great Lego set, but knowing what Lego designers are capable of creating, it could be even more awesome.

    GAIA-72 TERRAFORMING STATION

Hello, this is my latest Classic Space project, enjoy. You still love Classic Space, but you want more than just remakes of Classic Space sets? You want something new, fresh, never seen before? Here´s your opportunity to promote new futuristic designs for space sets. GAIA-72 TERRAFORMING STATION, is a dome base fully enclosed with everything the space explorers need to survive extraterrestrial environments. Its composed of a 1200 piece dome base (roughly the same amount of pieces of 10497) and a 1100 piece launch port. A perfect addition to any Classic Space collection. If you like it, give it your support and let's hope we can have this on store shelves soon.

    KAPPA NOTCH COMPLEX

Another Classic Space Lego Ideas project. This time is White Classic Space/Futuron Color Scheme. Kappa Notch Complex is a Space Base nestled between mountains, It´s composed of several modules or rooms connected internaly by corridors dug into the rocky mountains around a large rocket silo housing a two stage rocket designed to take a satelite into orbit in new colonizing planets. Lab, telecommunications, control panel, infirmary are among the fuctions of the modular rooms of the base. It also features a vehicle hangar and landing pad among the features of the base. NOTE: I updated the base by adding a Space Police rover and Blacktron speeder. The upgrades will be added to Lego Ideas in a month. Video for Operacion Saturno's creation.

Hello. I decided to create a video presentation for three of my current Lego Ideas Projects. The link is below. Give it a try and see if you like the format.
  7. Some members here had probably heard that months ago, I submitted a piece pack on Lego Ideas as a project and was rejected. However, I’m not here to discuss about if Lego Ideas decision was right or not, but to explain why I did this in the first place and how this can be sustained. On Reddit someone asked about this pack and I replied. “The idea for the petition for a Classic Space piece pack was on the believe that many Classic Space fans have over 40 years of collecting pieces and also have enough pieces to build complex designs on their own, so a piece pack would be a great gift for hardcore Classic Space fans to continue designing new Neo-Classic Space creations on their own…” Classic Space sets have at least 3 big color schemes to be known. Light gray/black/trans green, white/black/trans blue and what most fans consider the true C. S. blue/light grey/trans yellow. The white/black/trans blue is widely consider to be Futuron color scheme rather than Classic Space although it was used widely on the later years of that theme. Also, the number of trans blue pieces is larger than the trans yellow ones since it has been wider used in other Lego themes such as aquanauts, town space, and even Minecraft. Let’s face it. One of the biggest limitations for Neo Classic Space Mocs are the existing Trans yellow pieces available. You also have the space logo pieces and other limitations, but for what I’ve seen and heard. Every time a new trans yellow piece have been found on new Lego publications, the C. S. community goes nuts. For instance, how many people here know (or even care) that Lego has never made the 1x12 plate in blue color, but if I told you that minifig legs and arms in Trans Yellow color exist you’ll probably will rush to Bricklink to corroborate the last part. Die hard C.S. fans usually have a Lego Collection spanning four decades consisting of thousands of pieces. So, for them, a new window or windscreen in trans yellow is worth its weight in gold. I know you can get around the piece limitation problem by combining pieces, but a single piece windscreen solves any probable stability problems. The question is, Classic Space fans will consider a C.S. (trans yellow) Piece Pack good enough to be as good as a new Classic Space set? For me, the answer is YES! Maybe will not be as cool as a new professional Lego space set design, but it will expand my posibilities to create Classic Space MOCs.

    GALAXY DROPSHIP, NEO CLASSIC SPACE

Hello. The release of the new Galaxy Explorer and the new Blacktron Invader proves Lego Group is open to design new versions of 80s space sets. This is our best option for a second Classic Space Lego Ideas set. The Galaxy Dropship. It combines all the features of the Galaxy Explorer and Galaxy Commander, plus many others in a single base. The project already has reached more than 5400 support votes and it has a bit less than a year to reach its goal. This project was designed by Giorgio Chronas. Please support it and his other Lego Designs at Lego Ideas. Link: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/bcc52725-df48-4522-aeee-a34dba13889a Please support the return of Classic Space.

    CLASSIC SPACE PIECE PACK

For those Classic Space fans here, if you could make a direct request to Lego Group what would be? Maybe the restoration of one of the Space theme, maybe a remake of one of the iconic set releases of the era. Those are great requests and wouldn't mind any of those, but in my case like in most AFOLs, we design and build our own sets. For that I've been conducting polls on Lego groups about which new color pieces would you want Lego to make and so far I came with this group. Think about it, a Lego piece pack with new color elements to build Neo Classic Space sets. This is what I´ve come with so far. What piece you think I'm missing?

    SPACE DROID XL - SP081

Greetings! Let me present my newest Lego Ideas project. This is an homage to the droids included in Classic Space sets on the late 80s. The robot comes with a flyer and a rover which can be hold inside the unit's body. Also, the head serves as the cockpit. [MOC] - R4-1L Precision Fighter

This is the R4-1L Precision Fighter. The second ship in my fleet of Neo Classic Space inspired attack vessels. Its a small ship fitted with a very large Railgun. A gun which needs cooling via the pipework system on the left of the ship after every shot. The flipside of this is that it's a one shot kill weapon. There are loads more angles on this moc in my Flickr album here for anyone interested: https://www.flickr.com/photos/164260086@N06/albums/72157713214587157 Thanks for looking :)

Every fleet needs a pathfinder, so I made one for mine. This little guy is good for both deep space and planetary atmospheric flight making him the ideal candidate for charting new territories for the fleet to explore. 15. Hi. Earlier last year I was in the middle of another MOC project and it proved to be more involved and difficult than I initially thought. So I took a break from it... and I started playing around with some LBG parts around a train motor and ended up building a Neo Classic Space Train (Spacetrain SPACETRAIN!). Because why not. It does run! There is enough clearance between the pentagonal tiles and the wheel bases for it to turn around standard Lego track radii. I've run it at public shows, although it is quite heavy and only has one motor in it for now, so its top speed is a bit limited. I might add another motor at some point to speed it up, but I've been busy on other MOCs instead! Larger resolution photos are on flickr. Hope you enjoy it! Was tempted to post in the train forum but not sure whether its more space or more train... I don't think a topic for this exists on EB, so discuss this building style here! You can post your MOCs here, too.
  17. This Classic Space ship was built for my brothers' fleet by me. The windscreen is not available (yet), but it does come on a 2017 not-yet-released Star Wars set. I believe I am the first to use that cockpit for a CS build. This ship features six guns and five crew members, with seats for each inside the easily accessible interior. The front of the ship should feature one of this print. The model has two smaller boosters and one (quite large) engine made of 20 smaller ones. The front canopy and the middle roof lift away individually to reach into the crew areas. Each of the five crew members has a seat. Behind this leaded glass resides the nuclear fusion reactor, the heart of the ship. The five brave crew members, one of which should be wearing this uniform instead as the ship's commander. The LDD file is available here. As usual, comments, questions and complaints are always welcome! I don't know if this one will be built in real bricks, to tell you the truth, as my brother may or may not ever build it. (But if he doesn't I will someday!)

    [MOC] Neo Blacktron 1 spaceship

Here's my new Blacktron 1 MOC. The shape was loosely based on the 6781 Space Police 1 SP Striker. Does anyone know how to get Blacktron 1 minifig torso in LDD? Also I was looking for some older computer slopes and tiles, like from the classic, M-tron and ice planet era's.

    Neo Blacktron Stuff

Hi everyone! Having been inspired by Matthias Riedel's Blacktron MOCs, I've been making some builds using the same colour scheme. Namely Black, Dark Bley and Trans Neon Green, which is inspired by the Rench minifig from Raid VPR (5981-1) and the Space Villain minifig (8803-6). I want to say in advance that I was very unhappy with my photography. Sorry about that! Some Notes! - The halftrack is originally by Matthias Riedel: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mr_blacktron/ - The crawler is based on a Nova Crawler, which is an alternate build of the Exo-Force kit, Supernova (7712), inspired by Matthias Riedel's blacktron MOC of same: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=412775 - The racer is a recolour of the Agents kit, Infearno Interception (70162). - The walker is an updated Sub Orbital Guardian (6878-1) from Blacktron II. - The fighter is a recolour of the Ice Planet 2002 set Blizzard Baron (6879). - The submersible is a MOC with it's main design forms coming from the Aquazone set, Crystal Scavenger (2160-1). Many more pics in my Flickr album: I've also ordered components for 8 more Neo Blacktron minifigs, and am eagerly anticipating their arrival! Comments welcome!

  22. I've been working on these a while, waiting for Benny's SPACESHIP to be released. Now that I have Benny's ship, I can start building the rest of his fleet, which should include 2 fighters, 1 freighter, 1 escort cruiser, 1 Command Cruiser, 1 hover car, plus the space station. Now on to the pics! LL929 "Cosmic Explorer" (AKA Benny's Spaceship x3!) Built in 2012-13 for the Classic Space Supreme Commander, Benny the 1980-something space guy. It came equipped with a pocket for Unikitty during the Battle for Octan Tower. After the battle, this pocket was removed. (Unikitty turned down Benny's offer for a commission to Classic Space command, and has set out as a director actor in Movies & TV. See her latest film, "Johnny Thunder & the Temple of Gloom" for more info.) The area was replaced with a canopy for the crew to see outside from their stations near the Imagination Reactor. This ship in it's original form (plus it's pilot Benny and his friends) are featured in The LEGO Movie. Ship Name: Cosmic Explorer Owner: Classic Space Command Model: LL929 “Voyager” class Command Cruiser Manufacturer: Classic Space Shipyards Engines: 3 Mega Imagination Reactors Max Speed: 5,100 MPH Max Hyper Speed: 0.8 past light speed Other Modifications include: bumblebee stripes, longer wings, removed wing flaps & spring shooters, plus I added two more computers under the former skylight. LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1401734951m.lxf NOTE: The file above is based on the one in the "Offiical LEGO sets made in LDD topic" by EB user "Canticleer blues". He built the file I modified. Galaxy class Deep-Space Fighter These ships escort Benny on his missions, most recently on the search for George the 1970-something space guy, Benny's predecessor and friend. The small ships proved vital when they had to search the debris field of George's ship... or what was left of it. Owner: Classic Space Command Model: “Galaxy” class deep space fighter Manufacturer: Classic Space Shipyards Engines: 2 Imagination Reactors Max Speed: 3,400 MPH Max Hyper Speed: 0.5 past speed of light LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1415380096m.lxf Gamma class Freighter Originally bought from M-Tron Corporation in 1989 as discarded designs for what eventually became the 1990 Particle Ionizer, the Gamma class freighter is the one of slowest hyper-drive equipped vehicles in the Classic space Command fleet. It features 2 of the smallest (and slowest) hyper-engines ever built, and can carry up to 45 astro-tons of freight. The Gamma class features three smaller cargo holds capable of holding smaller lose cargo (such as mail or parcels), while the bigger pressurized hold can hold anything from a carbon-frozen human to a couple dozen alien eggs, all the way up to a medium sized machinery. Owner: Classic Space Command Model: “Gamma” class freighter Manufacturer: Classic Space Shipyards Engines: 2 Mini Imagination Reactors Max Speed: 2,550 MPH Max Hyper Speed: 0.4 past light speed LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1401664595m.lxf Micro - scale Benny's Spaceship + Classic Space Satellite First off, the Benny's spaceship micro build was inspired by Pepa Quin and his Iron Builder "Comarade Benny" model, (link: https://www.flickr.c...s-55973205@N08/ ) while the satellite was built from a LDD starter model from 2011. Background: The famous Benny the 1980-something space guy is investigating a mysterious signal coming from a region of space beyond our galaxy cluster. The radio signal was accidentally picked up by a satellite listening for possible Blacktron communiques. It is a 16 billion year old signal, which means it is older than the universe itself! Benny will have to find a way to get to the signal emitter, and he may just have a way: a certain blue box and it's owner! LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1415551572m.lxf Pi class Hover Car Originally intended as a high society transport, this ship design was stolen by another manufacturer and famously featured in the 2002 film Star Wars Episode II "Attack of the Clones". The company that made them first almost gave up until it sold one to then-unknown blue 1980's spaceman named Benny. Benny then used this car to shuttle himself to his work and secret master builder meetings, and eventually to his SPACESHIP(!)'s hanger after the end of Octan Corporation hostilities. The ship was not featured in the film made about those events, but nonetheless was seen in the studio parking lot as Benny drove it to play himself in the movie. It currently is stationed on the planet Zonia, where Benny (along with all the other Classic Spacemen) lives. Owner: Classic Space Command Model: “Pi” class hover car Manufacturer: Classic Space Shipyards Engines: 1 Mini Imagination Reactor Max Speed: 1,275 MPH Max Hyper Speed: (N/A) LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1401665607m.lxf NOTE: This ship originally was half of Star Wars set 7133, Bounty hunter Pursuit. Epsilon II space base The legendary 1970-something space guy, (also known as George) opened the Epsilon II Base in 1986, just in time for the Great Divide of 1987. (also known as the formation of the Blacktron) They made their base on the nearby ice world of Imperium and threatened to invade Epsilon II. The classic base was put on lock-down as George waited to receive an order of heavily armored and armed Exo-suits. (However that ship was intercepted by an unknown force and crashed on a world in a far-off uncharted sector of the galaxy.) George's situation back on Epsilon II soon became desperate as the supposed time of arrival for the Exo-suits came and went. Blacktron soon surrounded the world, drawing ever closer to the lone outpost and it's large fuel dump. By 1991 however, the Space Police had been formed and routed the nearby Blacktron stronghold of Imperium. The remaining siege fleet of Blacktron ships fled to the Galactic Deep Core to lick their wounds. The first Classic Space ship that landed on Epsilon in four years was commanded by a young Benny, who was sent to relieve the original commander George as he was retiring to a small lunar outpost. Benny has since been given fame in the LEGO Movie and the honorary title of 1980-something space guy. The base has been updated to feature two smaller landing pads and one large one for Benny's spaceship. (The statue is this mini-figure from 2009: http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?M=sp103 ) The modified set 70816 (Benny's ship) and two cruisers are included in the LDD file. The submodels are grouped for your benefit, though one substitution is needed: the two 32 x 32 baseplates are meant to be these parts instead: http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=3947a . LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1415559668m.lxf Here is a some-what related build of something used at the space base: Octan Fuels hover - tanker This OCTAN truck is on the smaller end of hover tankers. It can carry Nitros oxide, propane, rocket-grade gasoline, liquid nitrogen, plutonium, oil, and other fuels. Inspired by Bricksky's alternate build of set 60016: https://www.flickr.com/photos/tylersky/13598270465/in/faves-55973205@N08/ This model is made up mostly of that set's parts, with some additions. These include the following printed part: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3068bpb018 for the front 2x2 tile between the lights. This OCTAN tanker has three engines: two sub-light and one hyper drive. (in the middle) LDD file: http://www.mocpages.com/user_images/80135/1398109113m.lxf Questions, comments, & complaints welcome! EDIT 11/7/14: Added more pictures and fixed categories. EDIT 11/9/14: re-Added Epsilon II space base and micro - scale models, plus the Octan tanker.

    NCS Infiltration viper!

Introducing my latest MOC: The NCS Infiltration Viper! This was built as my contribution to Vic Viper Novvember. Originally Commander Grayson of the NCS Star fleet's personal transport, the Infiltration Viper was built when agile space combat ships were needed. It's a favored design by many federation fighter pilots, although it's a very rare opportunity to be able to drive one of these as very few were ever produced. only about 6 are currently scattered around the stars. Well, I have officially created one Neo classic space ship in each of the three color schemes! I call this a success :-) My flickr! You can find my blog at spacebricks.blogspot.com! -Jasbury!

    NCS: Cosmic Cruiser Redux!

My remake of the 6890 Cosmic Cruiser set from 1982. Thanks ~ Lego Knight ~ for the background! The Cosmic cruiser, although not the fastest starship in the federation, is a useful exploration and transportation vehicle. Its capable of low-altitude travel, and can deploy the pilot's seat as an X-5 Land speeder. As the Cosmic Cruiser is not primarily built for combat, it's equipped with only two front-tipped forward facing torpedo launchers. (I still haven't decided if the gadgets on the wing tips are weapons or antennas...) The federation X-5 land speeder is great for space rides, enjoying the intergalactic scenery, or traveling throughout a star outpost. The federation discovered that if the back engine was switched off, they gave off a very low heat signature. Because of this, they made their first combat appearance on the raid on Spyrius IV deploying soldiers into enemy bases. They were also good for a fast getaway. Their biggest flaw, however, is that they can only fly for a limited time before needing to be charged while attached to the Cosmic Cruiser Federation Starship. Hope you like it! My flickr! You can find my blog at spacebricks.blogspot.com! -Jasbury!
