  1. I am a fan of the Fire Brigade modular #10197 and wanted to expand on the look. I have the City Ambulance set and wanted a place to put it in my modular city. So I designed this building for it. Its similar to the FB, but not exactly the same, its kind of a cousin to it. I would put it next to the FB on one side to look like it was an addition to it. It is essentially a place for the paramedics to live when on duty. The height of the parking bay had to be that size to accommodate the ambulance. It sort of seems too tall, and I suppose the ambulance is a little too big a scale for the modulars (6 studs wide). Oh well, I like it enough to think about getting the bricks together to build it. The interior consists of a stair from the front door to the upper level living quarters for the paramedics. This building addresses the missing features in the FB, like beds and a bathroom. There are 2 beds a computer workstation, a kitchen and eating table. There are storage cabinets for supplies. Lots of accessories. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and sink. I know the window has a nice view of the WC...haha, but its high enough above the street to not be too visible ;-). The rear ground level has a storage space and perhaps an office, with windows out. I am still not sure about the color scheme, but for now, it works for me. tan gray and the dark red. Black window frames and doors. Comments most welcome!

    MOD - Grand Emporium billboard

Hi all, in late April I decided to start making the billboard on GE a seasonal themed piece instead of just the standard minifig head and present. I'm trying to keep all of the designs in the spirit of the original in that they must be made on a 6 x 12 plate and 3D is acceptable (within reason). So far I've made billboards for two consecutive weeks: May the Fourth Mothers Day Feel free to jump on the bandwagon and make your own billboards, I haven't noticed any other mods out there which I find a bit strange.
  3. Hi all! I've been riddled with doubt for a while now about the modulars. I have them, as I assume 110% of all of you have them as well. At every convention there are dozens of people displaying them. Lego fan sites are full of them. And I feel they are not very, erm, 'special' anymore, know what I'm saying'? I've bought all the modulars the day they went on sale, but I haven't bought the Parisian restaurant yet… I'm kinda bored with them… because I've seen them eeeeeverywhere I guess. Now, my question is: what do you guys do with your Modulars? Do you keep them on display as they are or do you remodel them? Do you use the bricks for completely different things or do you just change a bit (like adding a floor, changing the interiors or tiling the floors)? I think the modulars look great! But they are just a tad smaller in scale than my MOCs and they look weird together, so I wanna take them apart and rebuild them to fit more with my MOCs. I've started with taking apart the Petshop, but I stopped halfway through, wondering if I was doing the right thing, panicking, running around, arms flailing. What do you guys think? Reuse the bricks for original work like a heathen, or display them in all their conventional glory like a good boy?

Town layout - Your feedback welcome!

Hi Everyone, I am struggling to get the best out of the tables surface in terms of layout... and I am not very happy with this one, any ideas that could make it a bit more attractive??? The prerequistes are, the Town Hall should stand alone, the train is a must, water not (at least not yet). Actually I had layouts on smaller surfaces that looked more realistic, more dynamic, i.e the modulars created the impression of a bigger city, maybe because there were more "angles", more streets crossing each other.. Anyhow, thank you for your feedback and advises! photo (14) par SwissBrick, sur Flickr photo (23) par SwissBrick, sur Flickr photo (18) par SwissBrick, sur Flickr photo (20) par SwissBrick, sur Flickr photo (21) par SwissBrick, sur Flickr photo (27) par SwissBrick, sur Flickr photo (28) par SwissBrick, sur Flickr photo (25) par SwissBrick, sur Flickr Any ideas welcome, will post some updates if modifications are made following your advises, thanks again!
  5. Hi All, I've been working and a big project over the last few months and thought it was time to start sharing. My plan is to build (almost all done) all the commercial buildings of my home town of Maclean NSW Australia. The town was established in the late 1800's early 1900's and has some beautiful architecture from all era's. There is really only one main street which make the task so much easier. Some of the buildings have interiors whilst other are just facades. All the buildings (complete with roads cars and other goodies) will be coming together for a BIG display at a local school Fete coming up in October. There is around 30 buildings in total but I won't bore you with all of them just the good ones. Hardware Store with interior. More detailed pictures of the Hardware Shop Click Here. Originally a Bank, now a solicitors and offices. Built in 1878 is the oldest building in town. Commonwealth Bank Building complete with ATM. Palace Arcade was an Picture Theatre in it's day. This one is a favorites and I'm working on an interior at the moment. Will post pictures soon. Here's a little comparison photo. A Pub with interior. That's all for now, but for those interested in the town I'm sure you can find my little site dedicated to the build. Regards Brendan

    Goofy through-the-wall idea?

Hi! (Long time lurker, first time poster.) I'm mostly a modulars fan, although I have a couple of trains I'd really like to get on display, too. (Love that Emerald Night!) I'd really like to get my modulars on display, with a train running around them. But I don't have room for a big train table. I've got a big stretch of uninterrupted wall that I'm thinking about running a loop of train track through. So there'd be a long shelf on both sides of the wall, with a hole in the wall on both ends so that the train could loop through the two rooms. (Have I mentioned that my husband is very tolerant of this Lego stuff? He is.) Since it's 3 baseplates to turn a train, I'd be looking at a total depth of three baseplates, although about half of one of them would be through the walls. So I could do one baseplate (32 studs) deep on one side and 1 1/2 baseplates (48 studs) on the other side, or it could be about 40 studs on each side. The question is: is that deep enough to actually do anything, keeping in mind that I want to do modular buildings as part of it? The modular buildings are of course a 32 studs as built, but that includes about 8-10 studs in the back that I could lose (with some rebuilding), so maybe 24 studs needed for the modulars. But it seems like I'd need to put in a road for it to look right, and THEN the track. Seems like I'm short on studs, even if I make one side deeper than the other and only put the modular buildings on the deep side. Suggestions? Has anyone done something like this? I've looked at lots of gorgeous train layouts, but haven't quite seen anyone do anything quite like this. Thanks!
