    Katira Kabour of Norvica

This is Katira Kabour of Norvica, one of the best knight of Kaliphlin who has won a lot of free fight tournaments.Katira and his squire Demir are traveling to Eastgate for a free fight tournament between the best Knights of Avalonia and Kaliphlin.I think he has a good chance to fight himself in the final round and win the tournament.

    Plentiful Harvest

My 7th entry into the CCC XIV, for the Small Miscellaneous category. The colorscheme was inspired by Legopard and Brickvader’s Venice. I wanted to try something a little different from the typical vineyard, so I decided to do a wall and tower surrounding it. Harvest time brings plenty of activity to the vineyard as everyone works together to gather the ripe grapes. Contests to see who can harvest most are common, though some take a more relaxed approach. Qasr Albahr

Built for the large miscellaneous category of the 14th Colossal Castle Contest. The scene was inspired by this image. It took about 2 weeks to build, and weighs 24.8 pounds, making it my largest solo build ever. Setting up the buildings layout and connecting them via bridges was the most challenging part, though the rockwork was most time consuming to build. Qasr Albahr is a large trade citadel in the Spice Islands of Kaliphlin. It serves as a hub of the trade between the islands and mainland Kaliphlin. Its climbing bridges and ornate walls are well known throughout Historica. Lots more pictures on Brickbuilt Thanks for looking, all C&C appreciated

    Grand Merchant Tajir

My third entry into CCC XIV, for the Traveling Salesman category. Credit for the star mosaic over the throne goes to Disco86. One of the main things I wanted to include in this build was the awning over the king’s seat, as it is historically accurate, and something I haven’t seen done much in LEGO. The balcony area and floor were perhaps the funnest parts to build however. The grand merchant Tajir specializes in fine silks, spices, jewels, and robes. Tajir has brought a selection of his wares to King Dhahab. What sumptuous items will the King and Queen select? More pictures on Brickbuilt Thanks for looking, all C&C welcome

    Desert Travellers

As they get nearer and nearer to the Arkbri river, two travellers, weary from there exhausting trek across the Oil Road, begin to see trees, and more signs of life sprouting up out of the barren desert. Overall, pretty pleased with how this sand technique turned out, pleased enough to order some more of the parts for my next large MOC!

    Qar Riwa

Qar Riwa is a fortress located along one of the tributaries of the Qar-Arkhan River in southeast Kaliphlin, An ancient and weathered fortress originally under the control of the Desert King, he has allowed High Council soldiers to take over manning it. In the past, it was a outpost along the frontier of the Desert King's empire, but these days, it's main purpose is to guard and maintain the integrity of a spring that sits farther up the canyon, which serves as the start of the tributary. The waters provide irrigation to a few small villages nearby, which in turn serve as reliable rest stations in the vast sea of sand. Another build for GOh. I happily used a bit of Indian (Subcontinent) architecture influence in this one. Thanks for looking and happy building! More shots on my flickr if you guys are interested! Thanks for C&C

    The Desert Run 5000

My latest free-build for Kaliphlin, and also an entry for Classic-Castle's Flag of Your Kingdom Contest. The ostrich rider design was borrowed from Kayne. I would like to claim UoP credit for: General Building, Minifig Posing. The Duke of Ferrari is well known for his annual Desert Run 5000 and the competition is stiff this year. Ferrari’s representative is in the lead, while the ostrich and camel rider are not far behind! The mummy with his scorpion chariot, however, is a full lap behind the rest of the competitors. There are more pictures on brickbuilt. Thanks for looking, your comments and suggestions are always appreciated
  8. Residents of the Kaliphlin city of Petrea know where to go when they want to earn a little coin or find locate that hard-to-find item, The Andus Tradehouse and Bazaar. The bazaar is famous for its wide selection of goods and local cuisine. The tradehouse also serves as the headquarters for several merchant guilds. For the residents of this great city, the Desert King's reign has brought unprecedented peace and prosperity. Trade with Nocturnus has increased immensely, creating new markets for Kaliphlin goods and bringing in many unusual and interesting goods from the Darklands. ----------------------------------------- Hey guys, long time no see! You may have seen this on my Flickr page already, and now, finally, here on GoH, where it really belongs! I've been doing a ton of building for Nocturnus this year (which you haven't seen here either... yet) and I needed a break time in the desert. Thanks for looking!

    Ellena's Bakery

Another contribution to the Ye Old Merry Battleground display. I had a lot of fun with this build, using tan and dark bley together, along with the red and dark red as accents. It seemed to fit Kaliphlin well, so here it is. I'll be posting my other YOMB builds in the Historic Themes soon. Ellena’s bakery is well known for her delicious pies, breads, and other baked goods. "Well good evening Zia," Ellena said as she set aside her rolling pin. "It is a peaceful night, a nice change from the recent wars and uprisings in the land. But I didn't come here to discuss politics, I wanted to buy 2 loaves of bread and a tray of cookies." "Certainly!" Ellena replied, "I have some that still warm, here you are." "Thank you! I will likely be back tomorrow to pick up some tarts." Zia said, as she paid for the food. "You're welcome to stop by anytime, good night." More pictures on brickbuilt. Thanks for looking

    Alqalea Manor

This was a collab build with Isaac, again made for the Ye Old Merry Battleground display at BrickFair Virginia. We took a lot of inspiration from Mark of Falworth’s castles, particularly Falworth Castle. The castle split in half for transport, and the portcullis actually works via the crank at the top. I would like to claim UoP credit for the following: Architecture: SNOTted tile stonework Alqalea Manor is a lovely castle that serves as the home of Lord Alnabil. A Strange Creature

Throughout the many wild islands and tropical jungles of Kaliphlin there are many unique beasts and creatures. There are many rumors and legends about ancient, gigantic beast that once ruled the lands eons ago until they were struck down by a great ball of fire falling from the heavens. However some say that the ancestors of these great beasts still live on, secluded from the rest of the world on one of the many small islands off the coast of Kaliphlin. Now, after years of searching, explorers from the University of Petrea have discovered these magnificent creatures and proved beyond a doubt the truth behind the old stories... This build started off as an attempt to build a dragon in the style of the ones from How to Train Your Dragon ( colorful, animated looking, etc) but it ended up as a dino instead. C and C appreciated.
  13. The first part of the Elemendi Story: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=121423&hl=elemendi As Kha opened the door to The Maritime Inn, he was assaulted by a myriad of senses. Foremost of course was the combination of odors of roasting pheasant, stale ale and unwashed bodies. He turned and looked back quickly at the sign just outside the Inn, it was a clever combination of a smiling sailor aboard a ship. With a chuckle at the at pun the innkeeper used to name his establishment located on the southern coast of Kaliphlin a days ride northwest of Ras-el-Ahken but not quite to Mypa Stedor, Kha continued through the door into The Maritime Inn, or The Merry-time Inn as many of the locals referred to it. The interior was dimly lit, and heavy with smoke from both the fire burning in the hearth as well as the many patrons and their various pipes. The smoky odor was riddled with different aromas hinting of spices and weeds from all over Historica, but all of them were strong enough to be noticed. He looked to the corner where he knew his contact would be waiting. The Inn itself was built with a tall ceiling nearing twenty feet, with windows all the way up that look out upon the Great Southern Ocean. In the distance out upon the sea, Kha could see the darkened clouds that made up the vortex of The Void Tide a few miles off the coast. There seemed to be nowhere in the place where space was not used for something. There were barrels of all sorts of sundries or potent drinks all over, shelves and crates of other goods. Even the air space was used up with strings of lights, supports that held up Kha knew not, and nets of other goods hanging above the patrons heads. But there, at a table in the corner, and facing the door to see Kha when he entered was Masa. Masa is another member of The Resistance here in Kaliphlin, and Kha’s co-conspirator in this current endeavor. Joining Masa at the table was what appeared to be a mercenary or some sort of adventurer that Kha did not know. “Masa, good to see you safe!” Kha said. “You as well Kha. May I introduce Jarrick of The Dragon’s Cape. He is the man I was telling you of that knows that which we seek.” Masa said with a sidelong glance to the closest table. It was a habit both Masa and Kha had seemed to fall into lately since the Desert King began hunting them both. “Hello Lord Kha of Ras...”Jarrick began. “Let’s skip the formalities and lower the volume.” Kha said and also looked around the gathering room. “I cannot afford to be known anywhere in Kaliphlin as it stands right now.” “Understood, well I suppose I should get right down to business then.” Jarrick took a drink from his glass, and Kha could smell the pungent odor of strong spirits as he tilted the glass. “I know what you seek, and what you need in order to supplant The Desert King. The are referred to as The Elemendi, and once were a common sight across all of Historica. They are race of beings with an affinity to the Five Elements.” “Five Elements?” Kha asked. “Last I knew there were four elements, and Revolword already tried to tap that power.” “Revolword was an amateur compared to the Elemendi. And yes, there are five elements. Earth or Stone, Fire, Water, Air and Life. Each of them has its own power, but when they work together, even more can be accomplished. Some of them can boost or assist the others. That is where the trouble started!” Jarrick paused again to take another drink. “Three thousand years ago, the Elemendi were all over Historica. They live for centuries and can tap these powers, but when they mate, it is for life and they never have more offspring than two. It was impossible, the mother would pass during the third pregnancy. I don’t know if it was some sort of divine limit placed upon them, or just the cost of the magic, but it was never recorded that three children were born from a coupling. As you can imagine, that power was craved by those in power. The elemendi themselves were never interested in politics, they seemed to garner a joy of life simply from helping. But, those in power always have resources, and those resources led to ways to control the elemendi. I don’t know the details, or how they did that, but that was when much of Historica was plunged into a dark time. Wars raged across the land and the elemendi were controlled by both sides.” Jarrick looked away as if seeing that faraway time himself. “The power of the elemendi was tremendous. The five elements each meant so much more than implied. Water, the ability to manipulate any liquid and control all of its properties. The ancients used it purify water and help with agriculture, but once the wars started, new uses were found. Freezing the blood of victims too weak to resist, creating great fountains of ice and water that were used as weapons and so on. Fire, the ability to manipulate heat and flame. Once used to provide heat and food to the masses, it was turned to a burning inferno of destruction and death. Air, once used to aid in transportation, was then turned to be a razor focused tempest of destruction. Earth was used to terraform and mine for needed items in colonies, became an earth shattering force of destruction. Once the warmongers took over, they soon learned the elemendi could also control metal and used that in so many destructive ways it couldn’t even be recorded well enough to lend merit. Finally, the Power of Life, used originally to grow plant life and heal, it was distorted to its opposite and used to snuff out life and harm rather than heal. “The cost of the magic and its destructive properties began to take a toll on the elemendi and they began to die off, unable to rebuild their population. They were lost to civilization, wounded and retreating to where they were believed to be extinct.” “But they are not, you are implying?” Kha asked. “No. They are still around, but in such small number and in such fear of abuse that they remain hidden. But, there is man who lives deep in the Rakath Mountains who has some elemendi under his control. He is known only as a collector. He has spent lifetimes collecting races from around the world, and he has some of them in his keep.” “How do you know?” “I have made contact with someone who has escaped from him. I was given first-hand account of what transpires there. He has rows and rows of cages and prisons full of creatures only known in imagination. What is worse, he is intelligent and creative. He has bred different races, just to see what it would beget. Some of them have been bred with the elemendi and have gained some sort of control over the elements. Not to the extent of a pure bred, but he has found a way to produce their magic to some degree without being limited to two births.” Kha exhaled and leaned back. Looking over at Masa to see if he believed this tale as well. “That is horrible and incredible at the same time,” Masa said. “If that is true, those poor souls lead a tortured life and need to be freed no matter what!” “And, they could be a great ally in our cause against the Desert King.” Kha added. “But, I agree. We need to help them out, and once free we need to share our plight. If they are sympathetic, we would welcome their help. But, we cannot force them.” Masa looked Kha straight in the eyes, and Kha could see the emotion there. He knew that his friend was as hard as steel, but could see the empathy for these poor souls. As he watched, Masa’s eyes darkened and they both turned to look back at Jarrick. “I am glad to hear that you both understand what is at stake.” With that, Jarrick tapped the floor four times with his boot. The front door of the Inn opened, and immediately everyone turned to see what had seemed to swallow the light. Kha was speechless as he saw what appeared to be at least a 10 foot tall cross between a man and an elephant enter the Inn. His girth was large enough to match his height as well, and he was heading directly toward Kha and Masa. They exchanged glances and began to set themselves for trouble. Jarrick, just chuckled and set down his drink. “This, gentleman is Bronos. He is the one I was telling you about. Bronos, introduce yourself.” “Hello gentlemen, my name is Bronos of the Mastadoni tribe. I assume that Jarrick has told you of my origins.” His voice was surprisingly gentle for a beast of his size, yet still sounded as if it were coming from down a hallway that amplified and deepened its tenor. “I was born from a Mastadoni in captivity with the collector. My mother was bred with a Water Elemendi and I am what resulted.” “Bronos….it is a pleasure to meet you! I think we may be able to help…”, Masa turned to Kha and saw the same look of awe on the face of his friend.

    Beneath Anrarr

Hidden beneath castle Anrarr, in a not so long forgotten series of cavernous cellars lies the headquarters of the High council resistance to the rule of the Desert King. The main story and all four builds from the rest of build are available in the [summer Joust 2016] Kaliphlin Team thread. I would like to claim the UoP credits for: Geography: Grasslands, Military Science: Fortification, General Building: Lighted Builds (LEDs)

  16. Built for the Summer Joust, Guild category, Team Kaliphlin. And also a free build! After the civil war in Kaliphlin ended in stalemate, the main concerns of it's leaders turned to how to rebuild their shattered economy. Marauding armies had raided and decimated farms throughout the land, leading to widespead hunger and deprivation. Peregrinus had fared somewhat better than it's neighbouring provinces, as most of it's battles had been fought against Ulandis on the sea. Although not blessed with much arable land, the locals have made do by cutting into the hillsides, creating terraces where produce can be grown. Soldiers from both sides of the conflict have found ready work on the land, finding a new common purpose after the exhaustion of war. Here a stranded Ulandian veteran is reduced to begging for alms on the street. A Peregrinian soldier on patrol is moved by his plight and helps him with money so he can buy his passage home. Terraced Villa in Peregrinus - 5 by Gabriel Thomson, on Flickr] I feel like a bit of a fraud cause i didn't actually take part in the Kaliphlin civil war... (work was bonkers during that time), but at least i can play a role in showing the recovery afterwards! Anyway, i hope you have enjoyed looking at my build. C&c welcome as always.
  17. Long ago when peace reigned in Kaliphlin (am I showing my age here? ) castles like this one, garrisoned by Petraea soldiers, were a common sight. This was a fun color to use (medium dark flesh), I think it would look even better and also, of course, go further, with a bit of tan mixed in. You'll probably be seeing me use it again, I'll say that much! C&C welcome! Great to have a build for the guilds again!
  18. Mitgardia5rs_140616 by Gabriel Thomson, on Flickr] Runa Hoskuldottir spoke the words of leaving with care and reverence, asking the gods and the ancestors to bless the journey they were about to embark upon. The man by her side stood silent, but he made the offerings at the right time, as she had instructed him, the coins of passage falling into the sacred bowl in a pattern that promised fair winds. The ritual over, she turned to look at him, smiling. “Well Erland, we shall have no trouble until we reach the mainland at least. A good start.” Erland lifted his careworn face to meet her eyes. “Perhaps I am the trouble on the road. I know your father doesn’t approve of our betrothal, and how can I blame him? He knows next to nothing of me, and I cannot remember enough to quell his fears. Perhaps Sigurd was right and they should have left me to be claimed by the waves, at least that way your family would not be deprived of you in this hour!” Runa snorted impatience. It was one of the things he loved about her, how little patience she had for his doubt and self-pity. “Don’t talk nonsense, betrothed. Do you think I could remain deceived about your true nature after months of nursing you back to health? You are a good man, I know it, and when we find your family, you will know it again too. As for Sigurd and Bjarke, they are superstitious fools to think that you are ill-omened just because they lost their best fishhook the day they found you floating in the wreckage of that ship. The gods are not responsible for their carelessness!” Erland smiled. “Well, perhaps it shall be as you say. But we certainly won’t have fair winds to the mainland unless we move soon, no matter what the gods say. Is Olaf ready to go?” Runa reached down to stroke the stocky grey cat at her feet. “Come then Olaf! I have packed a snack for you on the boat.” He miowed in response and trotted down the steps toward the jetty, with the couple following close behind him. To be continued… So i hope this will become a bit of a multi-build storyline... it started mainly cause i realised just how little of Historica i'd built in, and i wanted a reason to roam about a bit. I'd never built in Mitgardia before now either, so i just had to kick things off there. But i do want to build more in Peregrinus as well (which has been woefully neglected by me), so the story might become slow going! 19. So this is an old moc... a really old moc! I started building it originally for the Sultan's Gate community build in mid-2014, but then got sidetracked onto other things and ended up missing the comp deadline altogether. Eventually i returned to it and finished it in Jan 2015. I always meant to post it in GoH once i had finished, but a demanding work schedule meant that this plan ended slipping through the cracks - whoops. Finally this year i find myself with more time and got around to making a new build to return to the guilds with (more on that later), and realised to my embarassment that this one never got posted! So this clearing the decks to some extent. So anyway, this is the description i wrote up for my version of Sultan's Gate's merchant's entrance: Often trade entrances into cities in Historica are modest affairs... not so however in Sultan's Gate! The cities strategic location has seen flourishing trade down the centuries, which has made some merchants very rich indeed. This allowed the powerful merchant's guild to commission the lift many years before, completed in the grand style to advertise the wealth and power of the city. Goods that are perishable or particularly valuable are often sent by lift to avoid the treacherous climb up the escarpment. The lift is very safe with only a few losses, mainly from overbearing merchants ordering it's use on high wind days. (A local legend has it that a giant roc once bit through the lift chain and made off with the entire box, but this has never been substantiated.) A ride in the lift to the ground and back again is a rite of passage for many of the young thrillseekers in the city, who often try to stow away or bribe the guards for the experience. Above the clouds - the great merchant's lift of Sultan's Gate by Gabriel Thomson, on Flickr] Abovetheclouds - Merchant's lift 4 by Gabriel Thomson, on Flickr] One of the things i was keen to try out with this build was a style of angled rockwork that was pioneered by Torgar. It was perfect for creating narrow sloping ledges on the cliff face. The long cloud base was an afterthought as i had committed to exhibiting this at Brickvention (a Lego show in Melbourne, Australia), and had to soak up some more table space. I think the asymmetric composition really helped it in the end and it was great to be able to crack out one of my great eagles in a moc for the first time! Abovetheclouds - Merchant's lift 1 by Gabriel Thomson, on Flickr] Abovetheclouds - Merchant's lift 2 by Gabriel Thomson, on Flickr] Abovetheclouds - Merchant's lift 3 by Gabriel Thomson, on Flickr] I was really inspired by images of the Manitou cliff dwellings while i was building, so i wanted to have different levels cut into the cliff, where people would be living etc. I incorporated lights into the interiors where i could as well. Abovetheclouds - Merchant's lift 6 by Gabriel Thomson, on Flickr] Abovetheclouds - Merchant's lift 5 by Gabriel Thomson, on Flickr Abovetheclouds - Merchant's lift 8 (back with lights) by Gabriel Thomson, on Flickr] Abovetheclouds - Midnight Tower by Gabriel Thomson, on Flickr] The lift itself is actually remote controlled using PF, which was a first for me. It took a little trial and error to get it to run straight, but was a lot of fun to build and operate, especially at Brickvention. I would stand away from the table and activate it wherever kids came up to touch the lift - seeing them trying to figure out how it was moving was quite amusing! IMG_0496 by Gabriel Thomson, on Flickr] Anyway, thanks for checking out my (very late) build... c&c very welcome!
  20. As the Kaliphlin civil war came to a close, shortage of food, and resistance to the new leader of the guild, causing unrest among the populace. Now, after the mock glamour of the civil war attracting so much attention from the wider diplomatic scene, let us return to the desert lands to find what goes on there... After the civil war in Kaliphlin ended in stalemate, the main concerns of it's leaders turned to how to rebuild their shattered economy. [MOC] The Last day tree.

There is not many Last day tree’s left in the world, I know of only a few and all of them I found in Kaliphlin. Some say that the tree will bloom and shed its petals in just one night before the world will end, but I believe that’s just a myth, like so many other things that surrounds them. Most people fear them, rumour is that even the beasts avoid them, but I also seen people bend before them in respect and praying in the shadow of their crown. I once heard a story that they grew in great numbers as a thick dense forest, but people cut them down for the hard wood, but the dying roots poisoned the land and the great Siccus desert emerged. But then some say the water in the Moruth swamplands in the Darklands once was poisoned from sap of the trees and that corrupted them minds of the people living there. Who knows what is really true? One thing I can confirm, that you get burns if you touch the leaves. I still have a blister that will not completely heal. But I still think they look beautiful, just like so many other tree’s in this world. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  25. My entry into the Desert Kings challenge, opposing the Desert King. The second MOC down is the one I am entering. On his way to visit his friend Eredhalion on Peregrinus, Lord Parimere and a band of his High Council supporters have been captured by a band of the Desert Kings soldiers. Intent on transporting him to the capital for trial for treason against the Desert King, little do the guards realise, they are the ones who are now being hunted. As they approach the Akhenaten delta, the Desert King’s forces are caught in a surprise attack of Lord Parimeres friends and fellow High Council supporters. They managed to free Parimere but are unable to free the rest of the prisoners before the Desert King’s soldiers rally and repulse there attackers, forcing them to flee into the delta. As the convoy approaches Petrea, part of the force of guards departs to swiftly travel ahead to bring news of there coming, the tables are turned and the remaining guards are sent fleeing to the capital by a group of cavalry. Little do they know that the force of cavalry is made up of only three war horses, the rest are steads borrowed from supportive locals, and are just used for intimidation. Anxious to save his honour, the captain of the cowardly guards exaggerates the size of the cavalry, leading the new ruler of Kaliphlin to send his forces to capture a large force of cavalry. Little does he know that the ‘large force’ has already returned there mounts to there local allies. They have already returned to Castle Parimere, hidden near the inland sea.
