    [LDD MOC] Mini Scale Frigate

[pid][/pid] Mini-Scale MOCs 4C Ahoy! Thought you might like this (inspired by this ship). (Click for higher resolution) Made of around 270 parts. If you'd like to know how, it's part of my entry for this year's Digital Design Contest, just download the LXF-file, you'll find it inside the dome. Oh, and while you're at it... you all like pirates, don't you? Think like one, and find something inside the chateau ! *shameless advertisement end* ... or just be lazy like a true pirate and get it at the end of this post C&C welcome! Regards Mini Frigate.lxf
  2. Hello and welcome to the presentation of the latest acquisition of MAESTRO! Due to the increasing size of our fleet we felt like it was time to have some more bigger armed vessels to protect our convoys. So I sent my engineers off to develop a frigate that could carry a decent amount of guns for us! In a very short amount of time they managed to put together this ship, which will sail under the command of Captain Ben Zwitsers, who is under the command of Lady Elysabeth of the House of Drondil(Titus V). Lady Elysabeth has also decided to name our first Frigate Dragon's Revenge, more about that later. ________ A few days ago I had given myself the challenge to build a frigate in under 24 hours - and I think I've succeeded in about 19. That's 6 more hours for improvements I might make once I have time to build again:P So, here are the pictures: Sailing' with the wind! Ready to fire a broadside? The stern castle closed gunports and a view at the rigging - I think I did pretty well considering I was limited in time and ran out of string:P As I don't own the Transferata I can only picture the Dragon's Revenge with one of Titus V ships, the Arkady. And together with the other of my ships - well, the smallest amount of them are actually in my hands:P Sorry for terrible editing, I just wanted to have them all in one picture. So, a quick overview over the facts: 11 hours building the ship 4 hours rigging 3 hours sails 1 hour crew 20 guns on the gundeck 6 smaller guns on the upper deck 2 bowchasers Captain Ben Zwitsers Owned by Lady Elysabeth(Titus V) Build by the Monezterrell' Shipyards (might be coming at some point in the future :P) Trade company MAESTRO current crew consists of 25 men, but could easily go into the range of 40 For now we'll license it as a class 5HA, but likely upgrade it at a later point to a higher class once those are public; I expect this to be a class 7(L)A, even if I would have to add a few more guns for that :P Some notes: the masts and rigging are not entirely accurate (2 sections instead of 3, rigging going to the sides of the platforms instead of to the masts; also the curve for the gundeck is a bit to strong. Those are the things that I'll definitely not fix in the remaining 5 hours, but if you have any other suggestions I might make use of those once I have time again.

Imperial Space Ships - real life

(Moderators, please note: These ships are inspired by Star Wars vehicles / sets , but they are not linked to star wars in any other way. As such, please do not move this thread to Star Wars forum. Thank you!) also, sorry for the blurry pictures. These are the best I could do. The Nevermore was commissioned in 2009 as the second ship of the "Vanguard" class of Star Cruiser. The ship's only sister vessel, the Usher, was destroyed in 2010 by a Blacktron strike force while the Nevermore was just a skeleton-frame and a yard number. (The Usher was enroute to the Unknown Regions to confront a Fleet of Blacktron ships headed for the Imperial shipyards, located on the world of Titan IV) The Nevermore was finished at lightning speed and was launched the week before the Blacktron arrived in May 2011, and soundly beat the Blacktron fleet with the help of a prototype Ion Cannon attached to Titan IV's surface. After chasing the Blacktron from the sector, the ship was christened the Nevermore by his Imperial Highness himself, with it's symbol being the Raven. In August 2012, the ship set off with orders to join up with the Imperial frigate Lenore and two Assault Carriers named the Avenger, and the Impervious (among with several dozen support ships and fighters) to from the Home Fleet. Name: Nevermore Owner: Lego Empire Model: Vanguard Class Star Cruiser Designer: Imperial Design Dept. Manufacturer: Imperial Shipyards Engines: 16 Twin Ion Engines (TIE) Max Speed: 1,850 MPH Max Hyper Speed: 60% speed of light The Nevermore features 16 engines. As you may have guessed, this ship is a modified version of set 9515: the Malevolence made into Imperial Gray-scale. The command bridge of the Nevermore features Admiral Oswald Lyons seat (on the right) with Lt. Commander Eliza Burnside (top seat) and Doctor Andrew Sinister (bottom seat) Right: Admiral Oswald Lyons Middle: Dr. Andrew Sinister Left: Lt Commander Eliza Burnside The Lenore was built during the last Blacktron War in late 2010. It was built with an experimental engine system which super-charged the regular TIE reactor into a BO-TIE ultra-reactor. This will make the regular Twin Ion Engine obsolete... once all the kinks are worked out with the design. Until such time, the cream of the crop in reactor technicians and their associated equipment are stationed on the Lenore should anything go wrong. This ship can go faster at light-speed than the Nevermore, though it trundles along at slower speed when not at full throttle. (It's sort of like a conventional turbine: works well at full speed but it's not so fuel efficient at lower speeds) Anyway, the Lenore is currently stationed in the Home Fleet the Star Cruiser Nevermore with two Assault Carriers named the Avenger, and the Impervious, among with several dozen support ships and fighters. Name: Lenore Owner: Lego Empire Model: Poe Class frigate Designer: Imperial Design Dept. Manufacturer: Imperial Shipyards Engines: 3 Boosted Output Twin Ion Engines (BO-TIE) Max Speed: 1,300 MPH Max Hyper Speed: 65% speed of light rear view featuring the 3 BO-TIE engines. Right: Captain Patricia Romanov Middle: Dr. Edward Jekyll Left: Lt. Commander Landon Williams Both the Nevermore (top) and the Lenore (bottom) are in scale with each other. ...and here is the symbol of the mighty LEGO Empire. Well, that's all for now. What do you think? Comments, Questions, & Complaints are welcome!

  7. Happy Force Friday everyone! The frigate is one of top ships for screen time during the Clone Wars, and also seen in Episode III, but it has no LEGO model, so I made one for it! It has 2 Separatist stickers on the side, and I think it works great on this scale! This is actually one of the only scales that will work since you need the shape of those 2 large front pieces, so I'm glad they exist! I also love the tiny details on the buildings on top. MOC: Bluecoat 24-gun Frigate

Greetings! Finally finished my Bluecoat frigate. Don't have a name yet - that's proving to be difficult to settle on, but I have some ideas. I based her on plans and paintings of French frigates from the mid-18th Century, and the build owes a LOT to the "Build A Frigate" tutorial, as well as quite a few gorgeous ships I've seen posted on this site, so thanks to everyone who posted pictures of your ships! Here is the overview. The ship is about 66cm tall and 87cm long, and is the largest ship I've built. Fully Rigged Ship, Three Masts 20B The figurehead is a little dull. I haven't settled on a name for the ship yet, so the figurehead probably will be changing. 2nd Battalion of Bluecoat Marines. The ship's launch. A Bluecoat infantry officer hitching a ride. The capstan does not work, but I'll probably change that soon. I kinda like the way the masts turned out, but even with reinforcing inside of them, they are way too fragile for the ship to be played with. Since my goal is always playability, I'll probably change the masts soon. I do enjoy making custom flags. Come on, now - I'm not the only ship builder here who likes croissants. It was not easy to get the tumblehome to line up with the part of the cabin that juts out, but I like the way it turned out. I really like the way the outside of the captain's cabin came together. I tried quite a few different looks before I finally found one I liked. And of course you know I'm going to have a binnacle. I love binnacles, but I don't like trying to build them. Deck comes off to expose the captain's cabin. Brunch is served. I wanted to do a tiled pattern for the cabin floor, but did not have enough pieces, so hardwood it is! I kind of like the way it looks. I might also change the ship's wheel. This one is okay, but I can do better. I don't think the ship's cook is as French as he claimed on his résumé. The ship's bell again - it was a little challenge to build it with a clapper, but I like the way it turned out. I haven't made the sails yet. I'm going to wait until I know whether or not I'm going to redesign the top masts, and I'm also going to make all the sails for all my ships at once. Thanks for looking! ~ Plaid Beard
  9. LDD/MLCad 14C Ahoy, Gentlemen of fortune and talented shipbuilders! This mysterious and foggy night a terrible pirate ship raises it's bloody-red sails! Frigate Crimson Widow specifically designed for pursuit. Hull is lightened to increase seaworthiness. Four cannons at the prow - and let no one go away unpunished! Also there is a "wanna-be-a-galley" version for gourmets You can find the ship here: https://www.flickr.c...157648831113453 Thank you for your attention

    HMS Merlin [Frigate] [MOC]

171B Hey guys! I recently started building again, and, due to my love of all things sailing ships-related, I built a frigate. Hispaniola

168A Hi, I’d like to present my latest MOC – HMS Hispaniola – based on the ship from Robert Louis Stevenson’s greatest book „ Treasure Island” of course. The ship itself is a improved version of my previous ship – HMS Enterprize. I change colour scheme, stern and rigging - but still it is the weakest part of the ship. I also change the sails - they are the same but I taped it by rope, so they are rigid, look very good and doesn't shred. I also change a bit the masts and spars. I based the appearance of the ship from the "Treasure Island" movie with Charlton Heston as a Long John Silver and Christian Bale as Jim Hawkings (from 1990) but my ship isn't a true copy of the ship from the movie ( in the movie it was used the replica of HMS Bounty built in 1960 specially to the “Mutiny on the Bounty” movie from 1962 with Marlon Brando). Btw. I think this movie is a best screening of Robert Louis Stevenson's book and one of the best movies about pirates with great soundtrack also. So let’s sing that old pirate song: "Fifteen men on the dead man's chest—Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!" and see the pictures The main characters ( I purposely use from Long John Silver Redbeard's head and hat, because I don't know how to build minifigure similar to Long John Silver from movie) short story: and few screenshots of " Hispaniola" from the movie " Treasure Island" folder with all pics - http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=548938 - avilable when public

    [MOC] Frigate HMS Jupiter

166D Ahoy, time for a more serious attempt to build a ship: This is the HMS Jupiter (3rd generation). The model is loosely based on the HMS Diana (many non-lego models seem to be around - check out this e.g. http://www.modelship...Diana_I_eng.htm) So, we have the captain: ... and his crew (with many custom cannons)... There she is sailing away: Some different custom cannons on deck: ... not to forget Jupiter himself: .. and one of two custom carronades: The ship is built in a modular way: For some strange reason Emmet found his way onboard but he found himself equally terrified by a crew member and by the ship's goat. (Oh, no monkey on this one) This is a joint collaboration of me and my son and we are both happy and proud about the result. Please send your comments! (Actually, the HMS Jupiter does not look so yellow in reality. I still need to convince my photo editing program to produce something decent... )

    [MOC] HMS Royal Monkey

166C Ahoy, today it is my great pleasure to present to you something I find nice and funny: The HMS Royal Monkey. It looks like a normal vessel. but if you take a close look, you will find signs of monkey-driven-design And you will find a few guests that have joined Captain Braunsfeld on his journey. Kurigan, sorry, I don't have the exact torso... The key point, however, is the Royal Monkey himself: :pir_laugh2: (Those of you more interested in historical accurateness might want to look at the lanterns instead. And the rudder is actually working!!!) I had a lot of fun building this. I hope you will be able to enjoy it too! By the way, it takes an awful lot of bricks to build a lego-sky-background... :pir-grin: :pir-grin: I am looking forward to your feedback!
  14. Well, as I have many Duplos at home (I got a 2 yo kid which is a Lego enthusiast), when I want to "physically" build something, I use those, instead of LDD. Of course, the size and colors of the bricks tend to limit the results, but Duplo can also be useful to build something nice. These are starships I made for my little kid, and he enjoyed playing with them at least as much as I enjoyed building them (and it was much!). Frigate Cruiser Carrier/Battleship Does anyone else build something with Duplos for their toddlers?

    WIP frigate HMS Vendetta

hey everyone, after seeing sebeus's new wip frigate, i got inspired to build the redcoat counterpart of it. i wanted to use sebeus's tumblehome technique, but i soon found that it ended up with a rather flat side. so i paired it up with kurigan's idea to flex the broadside, and started building! However i got stuck on making the stern. I wondered if i could get some advice, for i am rather blank for ideas at the moment. Thank you! pics: image by captaingoldenhook, on Flickr image by captaingoldenhook, on Flickr image by captaingoldenhook, on Flickr you can see what the stern looks like now: image by captaingoldenhook, on Flickr
  16. [pid][/pid] LDD/MLCad 13A I would like to show some of my ship-oriented ideas, which can be interesting(or not). Since it can be inconvenient for you to leaf through a lot of different pages, I would like to gather all of ships that haven't been here yet, so you can see them together in this post. At first, let the royal frigate "Lemuria" salute you with fire of her 60 cannons. She is not a tiny girl, and she has no idea what the diet is. However, I hope that she has a certain fascination. She was an experiment to test some technical innovations and ideas. I don't like her entirely, but may be she would get some place in your hearts? - Here we have something strange. I made it a month or two ago, when I just found LDD. As you can see, this galley is designed for the ram attack and have a catapult on board. - In these pictures you can see a little and nibmle shooner "Flink" smiling slyly to you. - Here I would like to make a small step aside from a pirate theme and show you a chinese junk. I named it "Duan wu". - The last and the prettiest - her name is "Cornetto", and her cheerful nature you will prefer. I like her very much, hope that you too :) Thank you for watching :)

    MOC: The Prince Ian-Lucas

[pid][/pid] 161C Hello, it's me again. This time I would like to present to you a ship that I've built some time back: The Prince Ian-Lucas. At that point in time I was building ships without knowledge of the existence of Captain Greenhairs Tutorial. So, my approach was to use slopes to make the ship look right. Its a modular build, so I can take off the top elements and allow access to the lower decks. This is the Dutch crew: (in red: Cornelius Drebbel) As you can see I have attempted to make every part of the ship accessible to the crew. This is why I had to spend an extra door here at the rear (and staircases somewhere else, etc.): (that was an earlier picture before the ship was actually finished - pls note the monkey ) Some more views: Overall, the ship turned out to be quite stable, easy to transport and store away. My later attempts have not always had these three qualities. Would I change it now, having advanced in a few areas? Yes, of course My MOCs are never done... One question remains for the experts: What type of ship is that? Is it a galleon? A monster of a sloop? A too small ship of the line?
  18. Captain Braunsfeld

    WIP: El Centurion (Galleon)

[pid][/pid] 159C Buenos dias! This time my first attempt based on Greenhair's wisdom has been manned with Spanish troops, so it probably has to be called a Galleon. I also think that an "HMS Centurion" has already been done. Therefore here we have "El Centurion"! You may ask, why I call this "work in progress" while all key ingredients are there? The key reason is that I am quite unhappy with the sails but frankly, I do not have a good idea what they should look like... (And it may be a reference to my missing skills in photo-editing ) I have chosen Spanish soldiers from different sources and times: As you may notice I have varied from the famous tutorial in places. That is, I go outward by half a stud and also by one full stud (using inverted slopes underneath). This look ok to me (could have been worse...) - let's hear your feedback. Some features, which might not be visible at first glance: There is a hold underneath the lower deck which is accessible (floor covered with tiles) and which then can hold the Spanish silver. The roof of the captain's cabin is removable so you can see his desk, etc. By the way, this is of course one key element of my ships: My children must be interested in playing with them. Therefore I have cut down on rigging, etc. which would make playing and access to the lower deck, etc. more difficult. So, there you go with "El Centurion". Once I have a good idea regarding the sails, I will post an update.

    MOC: Frigate "The Blue Mermaid"

[pid][/pid] 160A Ahoy! I'd like to present to you my new frigate which has been inspired by the work of our friend Sebeus I. The ship is called "The Blue Mermaid" Here's the little story to go along: Captain Jones was getting uneasy. For three hours he had been standing still to get his watercolour picture finished. Most of his crew had disappeared to sleep under deck. The few guys remaining and waiting for the painter to finish were the navigator, the first lieutenant and two strange guys. One was obviously gone crazy as he kept feeding his strange "Norwegian Blue" parrot. The other one was even stranger. He had boarded the ship with the aim to find the "Temple of the Monkey God" (wherever that would be). Surrounded by these guys, captain Jones felt a bit uneasy... but at least the painter was almost done, sailing beside the "Blue Mermaid" in his small sloop. End of story. As those who have seen some of my ships can tell, I have been following both inspiration from Sebeus I and the tutorial of fellow captain Green Hair. However, I made a few modifications which made the overall build more complex for me in the end. I have used custom-made cotton sails this time. And custom-made cannons. I really find that the CGH-Tutorial approach gives all these ships nice shapes but lacks stability. And you can never really access the lower decks which reduces playability. So, I might return to my old slope-based approach and present you some more of my reshaped old ships (if you give me some time ) Your feedback is welcome!

    INDEX: Replica Ships - L'Hermione

NOTE: This thread should be used for indexing purposes only. All discussion can be done in this thread. Last weekend I visited L'Hermione in Rochefort, France - a unique and fascinating project. Although not yet completely finished, and due to the nature of her planned endeavor equiped with several modern features, she offeres a very accurate impression of an 18th century french frigate. HMS Enterprize

[pid][/pid] 157D Hi! I'd like to present my latest frigate - hms enterprize. It is my third frigate. She is smaller than my previous ships but I think the best but of course not yet perfect. It isn't a replica - I rather based of the greatest ships built by Perfectionist. And this time I took some ideas from Captain Greenhair's tutorial, sorry for poor quality of photos. HMS Lion

[pid][/pid] 157A Hello everyone out there! A new ship has been assembled, not applying monkey-driven-design this time, no, this is the HMS LION! And this is where the name comes from: The overall design was much inspired by a guy called Barney (hats off) - but the lion is 100% mine The ship is modular (as all my ship models are) and I tried something new for the captain's cabin: Hmm. Seems some bricks are slightly lose, I'll fix that. What I meant to say was that I was able to avoid my usual rectangular build. Overall, Captain Braunsfeld is quite happy Have a wonderful christmas, yours Captain Braunsfeld

    Jupiter 2.0

[pid][/pid] 155A Good evening to you all! Some time back I had presented the Jupiter, a creation of my youngest son. And you also may recall that the ship fell from his hands to turn into a pile of bricks... http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=84658 BUT: We have roughly reassembled it, then I was able to purchase a few more yellow slopes and (this time) together we have created the next version: Jupiter 2.0! :pir-sweet: I was able to help to stabilize a few parts, however, we lost some aspects which were realistic. Yes, it (she? he?) is still very yellowish and could also be extended (but that would be 3.0) but we are already sufficiently happy with the result This is where the name comes from: and here is the name: The rudder has remained: next to it there is the ship's oven. The captain's cabin: The lower deck looks like this: ... and everything is overall modular: What we had to skip were several elements, which might not be found missing in the first place: - the lower ends of the masts were found in the lower deck as well - the masts were intended to consist of two parts, which looked great but was very instable - the capstan was also removed from the lower deck: ... it might return in version 3.0. So this is our latest update, please enjoy or give us hints what to improve. Until next time Captain Braunsfeld
