Mini linear actuators are technic parts that mimic hydraulic cylinders and convert rotary motion into linear motion. They are primarily used in combination with power functions to perform minor mechanical tasks, but their scale suggests that they could be used to mechanize smaller town models as well, though I haven't found anything after a cursory search on this forum. I made these two models to show a couple of examples of how they may be used. The excavator arm and dump truck tipping mechanism both use mini linear actuators to add mechanical complexity to otherwise small and compact models. Here they are from another angle. Here the mechanics of the excavator are exposed. The boom is operated through a worm gear mechnism by the knob on the left of the "counterweight", and the arm is extended with the one on the right. Both mechanisms are geared so that two full revolutions of the knobs is sufficient for the full range of motion. I hope others might find these parts and techniques useful in their own builds!

[TRIPLE] At the quarry (WIP)
weavil posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I bring you a day at the Quarry. Using what I have, I present: The Jaw Crusher: This was the hard one. Could only find a hand full of LEGO creations for an accual rock crusher. Anything else was Bionicle related some way. So this one took most of the time to bring to life. The tracked loader: I wanted to do a swing loader, but that has been done. So something completely different. Because you got to load the crusher some how. (opperator is a factory option) The OFF-Road Truck: Or as the reffance pictures called it. A way to haul the material to the crusher. Right? I got a little work to do yet. The rest of the pictures are HERE. After the contest I am going to rework all 3 to look/work more real. Hope you like my effort. -
Joktan, Jayan, Erastus, Dedan, and Kenan, along with the Hradcanny dwarves are busy repairing Forngord castle. Some work on patching the walls, others chop trees, use rubble to fill in the swamps, cut stone to rebuild the breach in the wall, fix the roof, and saw lumber. This is a unofficial entry to my Master Architect Challenge. Added 8 studs across the front bringing this to 56x56. I'm especially happy with how the crane (which is functional) and wheelbarrow turned out. More pictures here: http://www.brickbuilt.org/?p=667 Any C&C appreciated

8265 Front Loader
therealjustin posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Another one of my "holy grail" sets came a few days ago. The first being the 8420 Street Bike and now the 8265 Front Loader. I bought it used and it came unassembled with 100% of the parts, instruction booklets and all the necessary power function accessories to motorize it. It was $160US including shipping and while that is still expensive I saved around $100 by buying used. The build process was really fun and the finished model is actually better than I had pictured it and it matches perfectly with the 8043 excavator. I was trying to figure out which real loader Lego modeled the 8265 after, and to me it resembles a mid to top of the range Caterpillar. -
This is a little skid loader I made for a display I was building. Here it is working with a classic 6630 bucket loader from 1981. Back then you only had a roll bar and no safety cage.

Made for the Fortify Lenfald Challenge in LCC. This is the home of Manek Asten and his wife Eleonora. Manek is a captain in the army of Lenfald and lives just outside the great city Stonewald. He has hired Pepin (my character) to oversee the construction of a stone wall around his home as war seems to be coming: More pics, including interior, here: http://brickbuilt.tk...sten's-Home.php Any C&C welcome

This set was originally commissioned by my father-in-law. His father used to drive a grader in his former years, and it was kind of a tribute to him and myself, as well, to get started building. I designed it about three years ago on LDD, and made all the current modifications while tinkering with excess yellow parts. The particular one you see is Version 3.2, as I've made several changes: - the central beam is more structural and it doesn't fold - lateral articulation points behind the blade are stronger and have a greater range of movement - the carriage holding the blade and turntable have been lowered to give a more disengaged feel. The whole body would fit under the 6-Wide category for the most part, although the front beam is 2-Wide and the engine compartment is 4-Wide. The entire Grader is 28 studs long (and true to form) the blade is almost half that length, at 12 studs wide. As a realistic detail, the turntable is positioned in such a way that the blade can be up, and turned to stay within the wheel-base, 9 studs wide. Feel free to check out the rest!

Makorol's creations

Hi everyone. I'm new to eurobricks and before the presentation of my new MOC that is going to be finished in weeks, i want to show you some of my previous models. I think that describing all of the creations doesn't make sense, so I will show you only my best (In my opinion) MOCs: My latest creation - CAT 963D crawler loader. Very simple construction, just 4 PF M motors, 2 IR receivers, rechargeable battery box, some gears and stuff. But I really like this model, it works smoothly and it's a big fun playing with it. (Image is a link to the gallery) _________________________________________________________ Another model, Liebherr HS-855 dragline excavator. Big model, difficult to build. But it worked quite good. It was hard to learn how to dig with it :) It had 7 motors inside, 2 battery boxes and 3 IR receivers. Only cabin lifting wasn't remote controlled. (Image is a link to the gallery) _____________________________________________________________ Another yellow machine :) Liebherr LTM 1050 mobile crane. My favourite one. The mechanics of the model were very complicated, but as I remember, everything worked quite good. 7 PF motors, 3 IR receivers, battery box, some pneumatic stuff. (Image is a link to the gallery) ______________________________________________________________ In my gallery there are more models, but describing all of them here doesn't make sense. So, here is my gallery: Brickshelf Flickr And the YouTube channel: Youtube (make sure to subscribe to be up-to-date with my new videos ) If you have any questions - feel free to ask! PS. Is it posible to embed a YT video?- 10 replies
