The Keep at Stabbingham Castle

This is the keep at Stabbingham Castle. Stabbingham is a small, mostly peaceful village. This is my first castle MOC, that I'm happy with. The top section lifts off to reveal the interior of the first floor. The second floor, I decided to try something different. The wall is on hinges and opens to reveal the interior, and the king's chamber. All in all it was a fun build, and I learned techniques from what I have seen from the many great builders on this forum. Stabbingham Keep by Capt. Stabbin, on Flickr Stabbingham Keep by Capt. Nordana Castle

Finally I have a picture of my whole castle taken and edited, and I thought I should post it here also for those not frequenting the Guilds of Historica subforum or my local LUG forum This is by far the largest build I've done and it was built as a part of the Swebrick medieval community build (presented here), but also as a standalone MOC intended it to fit into the Guilds of Historica setting. I've tried to build it with a level of detail which can handle closeup views fairly well while still maintaining a clear and simple shape of the whole castle when viewed at a distance. Maybe it ended up having a bit too much 'big gray wall syndrome' for my taste, but I hope that the details make up for some of it. C&C welcome! More pictures of the four modules of the castle can be seen on my flickr or in these threads: South Tower Gatehouse North Tower Great Hall The castle is also on display right now at Lego World in Copenhagen, until Sunday (February 16th), in it's intended setting in between about 70 additional 32x32 baseplates of medieval eye candy. Check it out if you are going to Lego World! (On Saturday and Sunday I will also go there myself, see you there?).
4. Gregory: Welcome back Jordan, it's been a long time Jordan: Yes it has, but now i am back for good. My second attempt to build something Castle themed. I think this one was better then my last.
5. This is the gatehouse of Nordana Castle, sometimes also called Nordana Hall. The castle is located in Avalonia and is the ancient seat of the earls of Norshire, from which Sir Gideon the half-elf has his human blood through his mother (as described in my character intro). The gatehouse also forms the western tower of the castle. The portcullis can be raised and lowered, as well as the drawbridge. Other modules: South tower North tower Great hall The teeth sink into holes in the floor (credit to my fellow Swebrick member jesperallen for the idea!) Together with the south tower: For this build (or the combination of the two) I'd like to claim the following University of Petraea credits: - Military Science: Fortifications - General Building (Other Techniques): Movement-enabled C&C welcome! Second module for my Swebrick Medieval community build castle, adapted for the Guilds of Historica setting. Edit: Picture of the whole castle finally uploaded to flickr!
6. Just got some new Torsos printed. Let´s start with something rather classic. I never liked the new Redcoats. They have some more details but not the säxappeal of the 90´s Redcoats. Only Downside on the Classic Figs is the white Torso and no backprinting. So I recreated the Classic Imperial Torso using Inkscape and send it to my "local" Steindrucker (german for Brick Printer). And this is what came out. Left Sand-Blue-Coat, middle Blue-Coat and right Red-Coat. All three come with rather simple but classic looking backprinting. Now to something designwise more modern. This time I tried to recreate one of my older decals (take a look at the castle Torso Library) that was based on Eomer´s TorsoDesign. There´s no heraldic stuff on them to keep them as flexible in usage as possible. Those figs would look incredibly better if I had dark blueish grey arms at hand. (arms at hand...muhahahaha) This time I tried to use a PNG instead of a vector grafic. This turne out to be a less good idea since the "semi transparency" on the lines didn´t come out as I thoughed they would. I guess I learned something new... Otherwhise the print quality is awesome. Last but not least I´d like to show what Ninjago would look like if the first 4 core members would be girls and live in Space. The design is based of my Black Widdow and altered to fit Space-Themes. They work pretty well with my Space-Troopers that I showed somewhen earlier in another thread. Again there´s front and back printing. The back is less detailed but I´d rather look them at the boo...cough...cough...ehrm in the eyes. If you like them, please leave a comment. If not, please feel free to suggest me some optimizations. Thanks for you time.

How to build a Medieval bridge?

I am building a Medieval farm MOC for my Historica guild and I am building a stream next to it and building a bridge over the stream. The dimensions for the bridge is roughly a 12x8. My plan is to make it wooden, so brown in color. I have come up with a few ideas, but just wondering if anyone here has any good ones. Thanks
8. Hi! This is my first MOC-post. The MOC itself was a 4 set challenge and I have only used parts from set 6077, 6066, 6054, 6273. This is the result after a few evenings of building. The castle is "openable" so that it can also be used as a gate/wall. Overall i'm quite satisfied with my first MOC, it's just the gate tower i'm not that happy about and by the time i was building it I was running out of parts. Anyways, here are some pictures of it! Hope you guys like it! Tell me what you think :)
9. Here it is! After 2 and half year in the making, my Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry! It's also my biggest project so far with well over 12000 parts, it also features a full interior! As you can see my stream is full with plain white pictures, that is because this is also my entry into CCCXI! For those of you who do not know you are only allowed to enter three pictures that is 800x600 big. So when the contest is done I will upload detailed shots of the whole castle on both the exterior and interior! So keep and eye out for that! I will also post a video on my Youtube channle shortly so look forward for that! btw I'm very sorry for the very bad picture, but I couldn't do better with my iPhone... :-( I also want to say happy new year to everyone! 10. This is the south tower of Nordana Castle, sometimes also called Nordana Hall. The castle is located in Avalonia and is the ancient seat of the earls of Norshire, from which Sir Gideon the half-elf has his human blood through his mother (as described in my character intro). The tricky part of this build was to make the angled sections look good from all sides, for which I used a fair amount of wedge bricks. Other modules: Gatehouse North tower Great hall C&C welcome! 11. This is the north tower of Nordana Castle, sometimes also called Nordana Hall. The castle is located in Avalonia and is the ancient seat of the earls of Norshire, from which Sir Gideon the half-elf has his human blood through his mother (as described in my character intro). Adjacent to the north tower are the kitchen and a storehouse. On this side of the courtyard is also the sacred tree, which has stood here since before the earls of Norshire built the castle and is also what the tree on their coat of arms is based on. Other guilds don't call Avalonians 'tree-huggers' without reason. Other modules: South Tower Gatehouse Great hall The small Klint river runs past Nordana Castle and acts as part of the moat of the castle. By the north tower the river is flowing rapidly down, to later calm down around the front of the castle. Sacred Avalonian tree. 12. After traveling through the Nyika Tupu wastes, and presenting his gift of passage to the A'shan Daes, or The Black Lions as they are known throughout Kaliphlin, Kha shared his story with the nomads. Intrigued by the troubles caused by Revolword, and the current political situation in Nocturnus, the A'shan Daes sent a delegation with Kha to Ras El-Ahken. With his new bodyguards, Kha traveled on and reached the Gates of Ras El-Ahken. At the gates, Kha was not welcomed as the new Lord of the CIty as he expected, but instead with cold diffidence. The captain of the guard carried the writ of Lordship from the rulers of Kaliphlin proclaiming Kha as the new Lord of Ras El-Ahken, however there was a clear lack of respect for the position, or excitement for the arrival of the new Lord. (By the way, we finally get to see Kha's hair....he doesn't like to take of his helmet) Rather than react with outrage, Kha took this all in stride and quietly began to make plans to retake this city in the name of Kaliphlin. He knew that a long road awaits ahead of him, but with strong policy, concern for the citizens, and swift justice, this city could once again regain the fame and proserity it once held as the foremost trading port in Southern Kaliphlin. Now the real work begins.... As things currently stand, it appears that gambling and cards are more important than guard duty I plan to have the next chapter of the story/builds bring Kha to the docks to intercept some illegal smuggling and avoidance of tariffs..... Also, I would like consideration for the UoP credits of: Fortifications, and Minifig posing for the A'shan Daes build

Midnight Raid

About this creation Barad Dur Bracket Category: "Look at them. They're frightened. You can see it in their eyes.“ My entry into the 2013-14 Middle Earth Lego Olympics, against the amazing KW Vauban, and his superb entry. Hello all, Here is my last entry into the restricted category of the Global Contest 6, and also MELO Round 3. I wasn't originally going to enter MELO (because of life, school, and being sick most of last week), but as I was building this entry, I was trying to find a way to incorporate it into MELO, as I didn't want to leave the round by default, and finally found a way. The quote is: "Look at them. They're frightened. You can see it in their eyes.“ As I was thinking about this, I realized it worked right into my story. When the Rangers are climbing up the wall, they have to knock out the guards on top, and you can see the fear in their eyes. ;) It is kind of a weak link, but I am glad that I at least was able to put something into MELO. :P Enjoy the story and the build! “You know the plan, sneak in, find the armory, and out. Avoid anybody you see, but you are going to have to knockout the 2 guards on this wall.” Tonight was the night. After a week of planning, they were ready. Andar gave the 3 Rangers a last briefing before they went into action. The Rangers nodded, they were ready, practicing all week, preparing for this night. They chose to do the raid in the middle of a shift between guards, when the guards were starting to get very sleepy and bored. Feren stood by, watching them, wanting to see how they would ascend the wall. The Rangers went into action. They took a few minutes absorbing the feel of the shadows, and used it to their advantage. Feren almost shouted in surprise, for the Rangers seemed to disappear right into midair. Andar glanced over, raising one eyebrow in amusement. Feren shook his head in wonder as the Rangers appeared again, flat against the wall. Puzzled, he turned to Andar, asking, “Andar, how are they going to climb the wall? They are right under the guard, so they can’t use a rope and grapple, how are they going to get up?” Andar shook his head, smiling again. “They’ll climb.” Feren gaped at him. “Climb!?” “Yes climb. I think I made myself very clear,” Andar replied amused. “Remember, this fortress was breaking down, the walls were crumbling. When the Queen’s troops occupied it, they tried to repair the walls. But, as they are soldiers, not stone masons; they did a very poor job. My Rangers are using that to their advantage.” As Feren looked, the Rangers were indeed climbing up the wall. Like giant spiders, Feren thought humorously. As he looked on, one Ranger made it to the top. Waiting till the guard was right above him, he quickly leaped up, grabbing the torch, and swung himself, crashing into the guard. As the Ranger leaped at the guard, he saw him stumble back in astonishment, the scream that was coming came to late. The Ranger silently infiltrated the castle, finding the armory, and reported it to Andar. Then he, Kole, and the Rangers slipped into the castle, and sneaked into the armory. Kole started in surprise at the amount of weapons they had stored. Andar smiled, “Jackpot.” Kole blurted out in surprise, “Where on earth did they get so many weapons and armor!?” “I am guessing that this is a secret storehouse for weapons that they have gathered across Lenfald. Now they will return to their rightful owners.” Kole grinned, and they spent the rest of the night sneaking the weapons and armor out of the castle and into the Oakleaf Fortress. Assault on the Wall Fear in their eyes ;) The Armory Thanks for viewing! Critique welcomed and appreciated! Soli Deo Gloria! ~Matthew Oh~
15. Hello all, Here is my entry into LCC Global Challenge VI, into the Vignette Category. I had a lot of fun with this build, and I hope you like it as well! Enjoy! When Andar and Kole arrived at the Oakleaf Fortress, they met up with their leader, Feren, the elf who raised Andar, to plan a raid. They needed to stock up on weapons for the battle that was sure to come. Andar on the way to the Fortress had found an abandoned Lenfald castle, which was now occupied by some 30 Queen’s soldiers. Andar planned to raid it, and steal all their arms and armor. The night before, Andar quickly had the carpenter make a small 3D map of the castle they were going to raid and its surroundings. The next night he, Kole, and Feren met to discuss their plans. "We will attack by night," Andar said, "and release 3 of my Lenfald Rangers into the castle. They in turn will locate the armory, and then return with the information. We, meaning Kole, the Rangers and I will then sneak in, and out with all the weapons. It will take time, but we will eventually get all of it.” Feren stood back thoughtfully, stroking his chin in thought. Doubtfully, he asked “but how will you and your men even sneak in with all the guards?” Before Andar could reply, he continued, “I mean, even if you do make it in without alarming anyone, how in the world will you 5 guys not make any noise when you bring all that armor and weapons back up?” “Like I said, we will take a few at a time, and go slowly,” Andar replied patiently. “Do you doubt our abilities?” Feren replied hastily, “Oh no, knowing you long enough, I don’t doubt your abilities, much less those of your former apprentice. But I have not seen these…Rangers in action, and don’t know how capable they are at completing this kind of mission. I don’t even know who trained them, or how good he is.” Andar, rolling his eyes, responded quietly, “I trained them. Feren grew red in the face, realizing he insulted Andar, “Believe me, they will easily be able to complete this mission.” Feren nodded, still uncertain, but not wanting to disagree, replied, “whatever you say Andar.” Andar raised an eyebrow, “I see that you still don’t believe me. Well, here is your proof.” He uttered a short whistle, and immediately Rangers surrounded them. Feren started in surprise; to him they appeared straight out of thin air! “Where in the world did they come from!” “Actually,” Andar replied calmly, “they have been here this whole time.” Feren shook his head in amazement, “Well then, I have no doubts in their abilties now.” He smiled, rubbing his hands together in excitement, “Well, that settles it, we attack in a week. Have your Rangers ready by then.” “Of course.” Throughout the week, the Lenfald Rangers prepared for the raid, making sure they had a decent amount of weapons, honing their skills back to perfection, and at the same time keeping watch around the surrounding lands, making sure nobody discovered the secret castle. 4th Wall Well, I had fun with this story, I am not that great at writing them, but tell me what you think. :D Hopefully I will be able to build the next entry in time, if not, it will be a free build. Thanks for viewing, and enjoy! Soli Deo Gloria! ~Matthew~

Thenwell Castle

Built for Global Challenge VI in the Lands of Classic Castle. This is for the "Unrestricted" Category. My main goals for this build were: to experiment with using dark green 1x1 bricks for the landscape, using bley 1x2 grill bricks for texturing the castle walls, and to create a 'real' castle feel with the build. The castle is fairly simple, but I think it is the most realistic looking castle I've built yet. As always there is a full interior, this time accesible by a hinging wall. Thenwell Castle is a small castle in southern Lenfald, and one of the few castles not currently under the "Queen's" control. Lord Thenwell has been amassing weapons and armor to be ready for the revolt. Pepin helps with the stockpiling. More pictures here: link Any comments/criticism appreciated

21. Hello, I have always wanted the 375 lego "yellow" castle, and have passed on several occasions to get one. I want one complete with all pieces, instructions, stickers and minifigures. I have recently found two really good ones. One comes to about $300CAD with everything MINT but the box was opened and the set was displayed. The other comes to $400CAD with everything, Very good shape minifigures, and the inner bags are still sealed except for the minifigures. Will the value go up over time? It is the first lego Castle set. I am asking because the prices are eveywhere on the scales. I have seen anywhere from 150-2500. Let me know if these prices seem right, I am leaning towards the one with some sealed inner bags. Thanks!

REVIEW: 70806 Castle Cavalry

Podracer-like flying machine, or wall? You get to decide in… Set Title: Castle Cavalry Set #: 70806 Theme: The LEGO Movie Pieces: 424 Minifgures: 3 Year of Release: 2014 Price at Release: USD 30 Browse the pictures? Flickr set INTRODUCTION First of all, holy whoa, 424 pieces for $30? Can that be right? That's crazy! Second of all, nobody thought much of this set when pictures surfaced. And for good reason. The minifigures and colors are the same as the current Castle line, so what's really to like here? There are better castle sets in the Castle line. Is there something special that everybody missed? Let's see… BOX All of the 2-in-1 boxes picture the more, erm, "creative" model as the main model. That's not to say that the other one is secondary exactly, but the whacky and kind of unappealing one is all front and center. The back shows both models more equally. It seems to highlight those awful mini-catapults and not the flick-fires. Which is better? Maybe the catapults. Names make figures seem special, right? Well, there's nothing exclusive about our knights, but Sharon Shoehorn is exclusive. CONTENTS There are no numbered bags in these sets because once you build one model, you couldn't have numbered bags when building the second one anyway. With a lot of parts, that actually makes the build kind of lengthy. Here are all the parts for the Castle wall/flying thing, for your interest. Not a bad castle parts pack really, but nothing revolutionary. There are three booklets: two numbered ones and one that builds the wall model. The first slim numbered one builds the robot, while the second builds the flying thing. I didn't take a picture of the inside; it's fairly standard. The sticker sheet is not too bad here. MINIFIGURES As I said, most of these will be nothing new to anybody into Castle. None of the latest castle line interested me, so these are my first of these guys, and they're pretty nice for what they are. Still, compared to the more interesting city figures in other sets, I understand why these aren't much to write home about. Sharon Shoehorn's torso actually looks like it comes from the '80s besides for the modern "shapely" printing. I do love Sharon's second expression, and the knight's is a good one, if not new. Everybody has a bit of nice backprinting. SET - MICROMANAGER This particular Micromanager isn't my favorite; they're cuter with legs. This is the only one with wheels, but it doesn't roll all that well. The hand is super big, and can grab minifigures very well. You sometimes need to balance it on the big hand for it to not fall over. Since it rolls, it's got to have some tail lights in case it's caught in traffic. The wheels do fold up into it, but then I'm not sure what you're supposed to do with it. SET - FLYING THING The flying model actually uses all of the remaining parts, just leaving extra bits that you'd expect to see as extras anyway. Not all of the 2-in-1s use all the parts. Here are the leftovers from this model: And here is our flying machine. This one is pretty ok. It's reminiscent of a podracer, which makes it decently fun to swoosh. There are no controls, but it's already ridiculous so… oh well. The color scheme is pleasant and castle-y. This one does easily convey taking a castle and turning it into a flying machine. From the side, it still looks alright. Silly of course, but alright. The "engines" have some firey exhaust coming out, which is a fun touch. The set features the only way to make flick-fires tolerable - by having something else push them out. They still don't work well, but they're better. There's plenty of ammo for the little catapults, if you care to use those. The way the fence piece is attached using skeleton arms is cool, and is actually the same in the secon model, as we'll see. Overall, this model has enough guns and the fun engines, so it's not too bad. SET - CASTLE WALL The wall model doesn't use everything, but there aren't so many leftovers either. Here they are: First up is actually the sub-builds. Here are two little light things. They look nice, but are also the type of thing that aren't so necessary. They seem to just be there to eat parts. Next is a little double-catapult cart. LEGO loves double-catapult carts. There have been so many of these over the years. This one is fine and unremarkable. The front has some fire and places for a minifigure to drag it along. And now… the castle. For a castle wall, it's pretty nice. Plenty of detailing, more than in the current castle line I'd say. It's a lot of parts packed into a not-huge model. This really has to be part of a wall, or between two mountains, or something. Otherwise the door is a bit useless. Still, with the right imagination this makes a nice little outpost. There's just enough space for the knights to chill out, both in the towers and up top. The door has a locking mechanism, just a brick with technic pieces that slot through to lock it. Still, nice. COMPLETE SET and CONCLUSION So there you have it. Is this set better than what I initially expected? I don't know. The one model I'd want to display is the wall, but no surprise there. It's a nicely detailed wall. You'll have to be the judge if this set is worth getting for you. It does have a lot of parts, most of which are castle-y, so if you're into castle this isn't a terrible parts pack. The minifigures certainly don't sell this one, so you'd have to like the wall model, be a completist on micromanagers, or want to parts to get this. More 2-in-1 reviews to come!

Tower Roof Techniques

I thought this was where this fit the most. I am making a MOC of a a medieval tower. The one half has square corners and the other half has diagonal corners (semicircle). I am trying to think of a way to roof it with the black slopes. Does anyone have a technique in how to make a diaganol roof? Thanks
24. “When I was a youth, the previous MoonLord brought me on a raid near the Nocturnus border. There were some political prisoners being transported through Nocturnus, and we elves were going to set them free.” Kha’s eyes seemed to be glazed over as he recalled the events. “That was the first time I had run across the Draconians. They are a fierce tribe from Nocturnus….twisted. Half man and half dragon, they say that they were created during the height of Nocturnus’s power by clerics of some forgotten deity through rituals that were unspeakable.” Kha was visibly shaken, and we got the impression that he knew first hand what those rituals were. “That, is who we are going to find in the swamps and recruit to help us fight the Black Spire.” “But Kha, how do you know they will join the fight and not just kill us?” “I don’t….but they were fiercely loyal to Ssilyrrlith. He allowed them to prosper under his rule. They don’t want much, as twisted and ugly as they look, they lead a simple life. They are not enough in numbers to challenge the rule of all of Nocturnus, but their territory is sacred to them. We will just have to very convincing in why the Black Spire will not leave them be.” We journeyed deep into the Moruth Swamplands, and we came across an ancient tower. Kha signaled us to a halt as we approached. He knew we had found the place, although how was beyond me. I can’t picture those dragonmen building anything, but the tower was definitely theirs. We approached the tower and were met by several of those beasts. Kha hailed them and spoke to them so quietly that none of us could hear what he said. Based on the emotions that I saw cross that twisted half man/half dragon face he struck a nerve. And seeing those almost human emotions on that nightmarish face will haunt me for the rest of my days. Now, we have an army of these dragonmen….Draconians with us as we march to the Spire. I’m not sure if that is a help or a hindrance…..I can’t even sleep at night with these things near me. By the way, I would like to claim UoP credit for the following categories: SNOT'ted Tile work, Round Walls for Architecture, A third tree design here for Landscaping, and Life in Nocturnus for Anthropology.
