  1. Recently, there was a contest on Lego Ideas to come up with a futuristic construction machine. I came up with this, a truck mounted knuckle boom crane with some interesting party tricks. I apologize in advance for the wall of text, as I would like to actually explain some of the details behind the design, because I did not have enough room on the actual entry page to do so. First off, why a truck? why not make some kind of dedicated carrier? My reasoning is that having commonality with standard haulage trucks would be beneficial to operating costs, and then there is the fact that in some countries mobile cranes are not allowed on the highway, so this gets around that as well. Also, I had wanted to build a truck like this for some time before the contest was announced, so that's a personal reason. Originally, I had wanted to use the cab of 42079, but the contest dictated otherwise, so I made my own cab and chassis. The crane I based this off of would be the gigantic Cormach 575000A X, as seen here: However, I do not like the way the crane looks, mounted at the back of the truck, so my version has the crane reversed, so the crossed outriggers and crane base are behind the cab. I also added an additional axle, bringing the total number of axles to seven, to reduce axle loads. As for the truck itself,ETS stands for Electric Truck System, the line this truck would be sold under. I chose a long nose design in order to provide space for a hybrid range extender, and an extensive cooling system for the electric motors. There is also an equipment rack behind the cab, in order to hold various crane parts, as well as more cooling systems for the motor controllers, and a bleed off module like a locomotive, for when the truck is under regenerative braking. As I mentioned, the truck is electric, and has all wheels driven. Unlike a standard truck, their are much lower transmission losses, and each additional axle powered only adds more horsepower and torque. Normally, the truck only has two axles driven, but any number can be driven as needed, for difficult terrain or starting a heavy load. To improve safety, the truck has an extensive network of cameras positioned at all angles, instead of mirrors. This eliminates blind spots, as the truck would have massive ones ordinarily. Another feature of the cab is the fact that the steering wheel and other controls can be swapped left to right as need be, for when the truck travels to a country that drives on the wrong side of the road. Another innovative cab feature is the VR crane cab, a fully outfitted driving station in the sleeper cab of the truck. This allows the crane to be remotely controlled from withing the cab, useful for inclement weather. This system already exists, Hiab has a version of it, but I take it much farther. The primary crane cameras are at the end of a boom, in much the same location as a regular cab would be. This gives workers on the ground something to look at while interacting with the crane. With full outriggers and full extension, the crane reaches high. Unfortunately, the pneumatic functions of this model do not work as well as I'd like, particularly the outriggers. As a futuristic function, the crane is actually dismountable, and can drive around on its own set of retractable tracks. The tracks are also mounted on a platform that can be raised and lowered, which allows ground clearance to be changed. This configuration allows the crane to be much lower, and far more compact, allowing the crane to fit in spaces the truck could not, such as indoors. Since the crane is also electric, it can operate inside buildings without exhaust problems. For additional range, the crane can either plug in to an appropriate wall socket, or receive power from the truck via a cable. I have seen a number of tracked knuckle boom cranes, but they all require their own trailer. This configuration would allow for far greater speed and versatility. Without the crane, the truck could also be used as a flatbed, to move items around. The crane has an additional normal remote control, like most knuckle boom cranes. Also a part of the interface is the warning beacon on top of the superstructure. It is a series of red, yellow, and green lights. Most cranes have a setup like this, red means overload, yellow means approaching max capacity, and green means normal. I also added a warning light on each side. These would be activated when the crane is under VR control, to indicate that the crane may move suddenly. Another idea that is hard to get across in Lego is the fact that the crane is equipped with sensors, that would prevent the crane from hitting walls and especially power lines. I wanted to add a fly jib, but due to the outriggers, that was not an option. With a fly jib, this machine would be able to do the work of a truck crane, a crawler crane, a tower crane, and a heavy tractor, all in one unit. The truck chassis itself can actually split in two, allowing the truck to operate as a heavy tractor. Stored at the back of the equipment rack is a retractable fifth wheel, which can be extended when the crane is dismounted. Getting a steering system that could be disconnected was hard, and unfortunately struggles with the full crane on the truck. And here we have the Volvo ETS 770 on its own, without the crane. As a summary of the functions, this model has: Manual: Steering Track unit fold/unfold Slewing Track Slewing Chassis disconnect Two boom extensions Winch Pneumatic: Crane elevation 1 Crane elevation 2 Folding outriggers Extending outriggers Lowering outrigger feet Raising crane body Locking to truck These are the five entry pictures, I plan on taking more later , showing off more details of the crane and truck. I hope you guys like it.
  2. TECHNIC THEME PARK CONTEST RESULTS Here are the result of the contest. We have cut off all voters with a post count under 50. This will most likely be standard for future contests. In the end it didn't really matter for the final results, but we still think it's useful rule. We have decided to omit the Jury voting for this contest. 3. TECHNIC THEME PARK CONTEST The last couple of years TLG has released several theme park rides in the Creator Expert theme. Recently, even a big rollercoaster has been released. We have seen some cool Technic creations in the past and there's even a very cool one being built in the Technic forum right now. So, why not have a Technic Theme Park Contest? DESCRIPTION Build a Theme Park Ride! The ride needs to be operable, so it needs to be a working ride. Functions can be operated manually or motorized. Motorization isn't mandatory. It can also be a combination of manual and motorized functions. You can use any official LEGO motor or electronics you can find, including Mindstorms. SBrick, Buwizz, PFx Bricks and custom LED solutions ARE permitted too. No sculpting, cutting or gluing pieces and no other 3rd party parts (besided electronics and the usual strings, hoses and bands). There is some difference between theme parks, amusement parks and fairgrounds, but for this contest the difference doesn't matter. You can build any ride, but we will use the term Theme Park for this contest. It doesn't even have to be an existing ride. You can come up with your own ride! However, this contest is about the ride, so NO trucks or trailers, just the ride. Of course, you can include Minifigs and use System parts (Modelbuilder style) to decorate the ride. DEADLINE Deadline date is Monday 3rd of September, 2018. Contest will be closed on Tuesday 4th of September, OR LATER. Disclaimer: I will close the contest when I see fit and when I have the time to process the results. This can be later than the deadline date. Please don't complain about this not being fair and all. RULES AND REGULATIONS The following section describes the contest specific and general rules and regulations. But before that, please take notice of a simple motto regarding the Eurobricks Contests: CONTESTS ARE FOR FUN! Of course there's competition, but at the end of the day, LEGO is just a hobby and the main goal for each of us is to have fun! CONTEST SPECIFIC RULES AND REGULATIONS Each entry needs to have a name (no name, no entry). Building/including a truck or trailer for the ride is not permitted. Including Minifigs is permitted. Model Team style building is permitted. Mindstorms, SBrick, Buwizz, PFx Brick and third party custom LED solutions are permitted. 3rd party Strings, Hoses and Rubber Bands are permitted. 3rd party tires are not permitted. Other 3rd party parts, besides electronics, are not permitted. There is no size limit. You can use non-LEGO elements for containing and/or transferring/transporting water GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS The contest is open to all EB members (also new members). Members who joined EB after the start of the contest can be banned from voting (when vote rigging is suspected). Voting rules will be explained later in the voting topic. One entry per member. Entries need to be new (never posted anywhere previously or shown at an event/LUG meeting). Only physical builds, so no LDD or other virtual entry. If you have any doubts about the suitability of your entry contact me, or Milan. All entries are to include only real LEGO. No clone brands, 3rd party parts, or digital entries allowed. Custom stickers are allowed. No cutting, sculpting or modifying parts. Entries are to be placed in the entry topic in this forum. Entries not in the entry topic are not eligible for voting. The entry post may be edited at any time up to the end of the contest, so feel free to make improvements if you wish. The contest might be closed later than the deadline. Don't complain about this not being fair. You have enough time to build. Don't ask for more time. We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not follow these rules. These rules can be changed whenever we see fit to ensure that people follow the intent of the contest. Jury members are not eligible to participate. WHAT DO I NEED TO ENTER? 6. May the 4th be with you! It's that time of year again and we are hosting another Star Wars contest. Over the years there have been a lot of really good Star Wars video games. One example is Force Unleashed 2: For this contest you must re-create a moment from a Star Wars video game. Like this: Artistic license is allowed, but the closer to picture-perfect-accuracy the better! There are no size limitations, but you must include a screenshot with your Lego MOC. The screen-shot does not have to be your own (but kudos to those who do take their own screenshot!). If you use one from someone else, please credit them. Rules Only one entry is allowed per person. There is no maximum or minimum size limit. At least two pictures must be submitted with each entry. The first picture should be the screenshot from the Star Wars video game you choose. The second should be your Lego re-creation. The contest will run from 4th May to 4th June, 2018. As long as it's still June 4th somewhere in the world, you can still enter. Entries posted after the deadline will be disqualified. There must be at least 10 entries for anyone to be eligible for prizes. If there are fewer than 10 entries, there will still be prizes, they will just not be the same as are listed in the prizes section. This contest is open to all EB members, even if they joined EB after the contest has begun, with the exception of the Star Wars staff, who are not eligible to win prizes. All entries must be new creations, not posted anywhere else prior to being entered in the contest. You may be asked by a staff member to change your entry if it is too similar to an earlier creation. All entries must be built from real LEGO. No clone brands, no third-party custom parts. Digital entries will be allowed. All digital entries must use only existing pieces in existing colors. All entries must be posted as a new topic in the Watto’s Junkyard forum, the title prefixed by, "[Re-creation] - entry name". (For example, "[Re-creation] – Taking Out the AT-ST".) A link must also be included in this thread for your entry to count. You may do a 'full-blown photo edit' with all the text, effects, background compositing, support erasing, and other effects on one picture. All your other pictures may have no editing other than color adjustment or background removal for a solid-color background. For obvious reasons, any photo editing that changes the shape, functionality, or color (not tint or adjustment, but actual color) of a LEGO piece is prohibited. It is also prohibited to use the Lego logo in any picture. All entries are considered WIPs (Works In Progress) until the deadline passes. Until the deadline has passed, you are allowed to change and improve your MOC. The winners will be decided by EB members voting. Prizes First place will win 751212 Kessel Run Millennium Falcon Second place will win 75211 TIE Fighter Third place will win 75204 Sandspeeder

    LEGO ReBrick Contests

I couldn't find a dedicated thread, so please feel free to move this comment to the appropriate thread if I have failed in my extensive search to find the correct thread to post this in. If there isn't one, may I suggest this as a general but official LEGO contests thread? Therefore, please feel free to add an appropriate pinned comment regarding this topic's remit... certainly something better worded anyway. To my issue/point/problem... I have been trying to upload an entry to one of LEGO ReBrick's contests all day. I've tried on my iPad and my old Kindle Fire. My four image files are easily below the largest file threshold, in fact, the combined size of my four images is below 2Mb. I'm adding only three tags as outlined and have tried with and without spaces after the commas. Each time I manage to press submit after the preview I get the error message that "oops!" I need to check my file sizes or my tags. Has anyone else experienced similar problems or have any advice? I've alerted the admin in a comment that will get moderated in 1-2 working days but I'm feeling a bit impatient and wondered if anyone else was experiencing difficulties and therefore confirming the problem being LEGO's website and not my hardware.

    [Re-creation] - Dismemberment

hi all! here is my entry for the re-creation a moment of a Star Wars video game... I choose "Star Wars - Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy" for a lot of reasons: i spent several time... really a lot of time on this game, because i can create my own character, choose my own lightsaber and the color... because the story is nice and i can use the lightside and the darkside of the force... because there are a lot of mods to add more character parts, lightsaber hilts, maps, total conversions (i learned a lot about coding while i tryed to manage all the mods to create my own mod pack, a single mod with all stuff i wanted) another interesting thing I found in this game is the fighting technique, the freedom to use a own style of fighting and moving around "swooshing"... but, the most awesome thing... is the dismemberment! really i loved playing this game and make the enemy heads, torsos etc flying around killing them for this my re-creation is of a moment of maximum happiness ingame here the screenshot and this my Lego re-creation not edited: there are specially two difference: the first is the pose of the sith reborn with the double bladed lightsaber, because that is the only way i found in real life to fit a "bar" with two hands... the second thing is the pose of the green cultist, i wanted recreate the animation movement about his death (with the slowmotion rotating camera during that animation i cant done a good screenshot with all the npc) and i think it is more funny than the final pose of that bad guy i made another shot with different angle only for see better the lego creation this digital creation was made only with existing parts in existing colors (i checked all of them on bricklink) and, most important, all the parts are connected! nothing is simply posed, all are connected and work, here one shoot with the techniques i used for the difficoult connections i hope you like it... anyway, Good Luck to all competitors!! Edit: i made some addition on the ground detail... the project is the same, only a background addon: not edited:

  12. Hello everyone, here is my entry for the scene re-creation of a Star Wars video game. Here I have chosen my favorite Star Wars game: Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast. This scene takes place in the Cairn Installation where Kyle Katarn has to make his way to find his partner Jan Ors detained by the remnants of the Empire. A lot of different enemies are present in the various levels of this installation, here I decided to represent the first appearance of the Mark 1 droid walker which is a droid that I have never seen reproduced in Lego, so I thought it would be a fun challenge to make one. As you can see the Mark 1 is definitely oversized compared to Kyle but I really wanted to capture the round shape of the head and its multiple eyes - although a few of them are missing at the front because of their small size - so I had to make a decision. Other than that the build is pretty sturdy and playable. I would say that the weakest part is the "neck" of the droid as only one stud connects the head to its body. The scene is pretty straight forward, I wanted to make one section of the wall but I've ran out of tiles. Anyway, I hope you liked it! More pictures:
  13. The votes are counted and soon I'll be packing my bags to see the excellent vehicle for my adventure! Congratulations @kritch, it has been decided that your vehicle is the finest for my journey. If you kindly message Peppermint_M your address I shall travel to you forthwith! Never fear other entrants. There are still hats to be handed over. @Sci-FiFleetAdmiral(2nd place), @Extrarius (3rd place), also @Dorino, @Space Police XVIII and @Bricknave (Joint 4th) you each have your choice of hat for your profile. Just let us know here in the thread which one you wish to have. Well done everyone and thank you for your many wonderful entries, it was certainly not an easy choice for anyone voting. Keep your eyes open for more adventures and contests here in Action and Adventure themes.

    [Galidor Category B] Nepol

I thought I'd try doing a Bionicle-based head sculpture of one of the more unique looking Galidor characters, Nepol. There's a couple more pics in the album on Flickr.
  16. Hello Eurobricks! I am Lester and I live in the fine city of London. However, I am about to embark on something of an: I will be travelling around the world! Encountering all sorts of terrain, conquering deserts, exploring jungles and travelling far and wide. To do that I will need some pretty tough vehicles. That is where you come in. Members of Eurobricks, I challenge you to design me a vehicle to make my journey. In reward, I will come and visit the winning vehicle in person! So what do you say? Does anyone have the perfect thing in mind? Oh yes, where are my manners... The runners up will receive a rather spiffy hat for their profile - The rules are as follows: One entry per member. Entries should be no larger than these examples: . Anything reasonable in between the two, they do not have to be as long or as wide. As tall or as low. Just take these two as the sort of scale expected for the contest. I'm looking for details, features and design, not sheer scale. Entries should be new (never posted anywhere previously). All entries are to include only real LEGO. No clone brands, 3rd party parts, or digital entries allowed. Decals will be allowed if you've made them yourself, but no cutting, sculpting or modifying parts. Entries are to be placed in their own entry topic in the Action and Adventure Themes forum. The title of the topic should begin with [Lester] and then give the name of the entry. The entry post (first post in your entry topic) may be edited at any time up to the end of the contest, so feel free to make improvements if you wish. Entries are to consist of no more than 3 posted pictures of 1024x768 pixels or smaller resolution but may also include a link to a folder of additional images of any size. The first picture will be used for your entry in the voting thread. Photos of your creation can be manipulated with Photoshop for levels, proportions and colour correction but may not include graphic enhancements. We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not follow these rules. Winners will be decided by public vote This contest will run from now until 12:00 GMT+1 (British Summertime) on April 30th. And just to clarify, yes, first place will win an actual physical Lester Minifigure, only available at the London Leicester Square LEGO Store.

    Spider — Plague Mech: Xi

My entry for Plague Mech contest.
  18. Voting is over and the votes have been tallied, congratulations jansued and Artizan! Ever since 2007 The Lego Company has raided our wallets with their mostly popular (and sometimes less so, I’m looking at you 8015 Assassin Droid!) Battle Packs. Now it’s your turn! Create your own Star Wars Battle Pack to populate the galaxy (and your desk) with more minifigures! An all Jedi battle pack, Star Wars Christmas battle pack, an astromech battle pack, a cantina goer battle pack, the options are endless! All entries should include a small build with play features as well as 4 minifigures. Look to the previous battle packs for inspiration but use your imagination too. If you are using aliens that do not already have a mold produced by Lego (such as the Quarren), they must be a race that makes an appearance in one of the main 6 Star Wars movies. This is not a fig-barf contest. Each entry will be judged on play features, the main build, and the minifigures. The entries will be given a maximum of 6/15 points for the build, 5/15 points for the minifigures, and 4/15 points for play features. Rules Each person is allowed up to 2 entries in this contest, but each person is eligible to receive only one prize. Each entry must include 4 minifigures or the equivalent of minifigures (brick built figs may not contain more than 30 pieces). Each entry should not include more than 100 pieces (not including minifigures and 1 weapon apiece), but there will be some grace given if the piece count exceeds this number be a small amount. The contest will run from 1st May to 31th May, 2015. As long as it's still May 31 somewhere in the world, you can still enter. Entries posted after the deadline will be disqualified. This contest is open to all EB members, even if they joined EB after the contest has begun. EB Staff are ineligible to win prizes. You can use official stickers or custom stickers for the minifigures only. All entries must be posted as a new topic in the Watto’s Junkyard forum, the title prefixed by, "[sWBP] – entry name". (For example, "[sWBP] – Youngling Battle Pack") A link must also be included in this thread for your entry to count. Post pictures no larger than 800x640, but you may link to bigger pictures. If there are more than 25 entries, EB staff will make a first selection to bring the number down to 25, and then EB members will vote for their favorite entry among that selection. EB staff will using the judging scale listed above. EB members should vote based on the judging scale, but will not be required to show what points they judged by. Rules Update: The piece count allowed for brick-built figs has been increased to 30 pieces The piece limit rules has been updated to be more flexible. It's still at 100, but there is some overage allowed. This is being purposely left vague because I don't want people to abuse this rule and I reserve the right to veto any builds that are obviously too parts intensive. Entries are not required to list their piece count (though you still can if you want). The piece count needs to visually look like it could be a battlepack but can be done in a completely different way from the TLG produced battlepacks. (See my example entry for what would still be acceptable if it's not in the TLG format). Prizes First and second place will win 9489 Endor Rebel Trooper & Imperial Trooper Battle Pack. Example Entry: Rodian Bounty Hunter Battle Pack A galaxy far, far away always has work for a bounty hunter. Go on adventures with this group of Rodians! Help them crack the security codes on the door! Help make sure this group of bounty hunters always gets their guy, alive or disintegrated!
  19. When traveling around the world, it always seems one has to sacrifice style for substance. Not anymore, with the all-new: All-Terrain Saloon Car This attractive model comes complete with an all-leather interior, opening doors, folding windshield and a rack on top for carrying luggage and cargo (or in this case, a cooler filled with sausages). Inside is enough room for one minifigure, along with some trunk area for suitcases or small parcels. The rubber tires can counter the toughest terrains, while the low-slung body allows for achieving the highest speeds possible. On the back, there is more area for carrying accessories, like a frying pan for camp cooking and a red tail-lantern so cars can't crash into you on the highway. And there we have it, folks: a car that combines both style and substance for a truly enjoyable ride. Pick yours up today and travel the world in style! Feel free to question and comment, and thanks for watching, folks! Always entertaining, always inspiring, always:

  23. TECHNIC PULLBACK CONTEST It has been suggested quite a few time, so here it is. The Technic Pullback Contest. A simple and short contest to keep you busy during the holidays. DESCRIPTION Build a Technic model with one or more pullback motors. You can't use Pneumatics, PF or other electronics, just the pullback motors. DEADLINE Deadline date is Monday 29th of January, 2018. Contest will be closed on Tuesday 30th of January, OR LATER. Only OFFICIAL LEGO PARTS. 3rd party STRINGS, HOSES and RUBBER BANDS are permitted. NO 3rd party tires.
