Hi all Pirates and LEGO fans! I share with you my latest MOC called the Big Small Imperial Bastion. I just wanted to create a playable bastion to use with the very nice Pirates of Barracuda Bay set. Hope you'll like it. Any comments are welcome. View form behind. Mmh... It seems the monkey stole something from the Captain's office. Door is open on purpose for this picture. Bastion is one of my favorite Overwatch characters, so I was excited when it was announced that we'd get a Lego version of it. However, the first Bastion set that was released, the Blizzard exclusive 75987 Omnic Bastion, was a bit disappointing since the model was based on an obscure skin, was not small enough to be minifig-scale, and couldn't even really transform. Luckily, TLG seems to have fixed some of these issues by also releasing a UCS-scale model of classic Bastion in the main Overwatch line. But is bigger actually better? Let's find out! About Overwatch For those who are unfamiliar with Overwatch, click below for a brief summary: Set Number: 75974 Name: Bastion Theme: Overwatch Year of Release: 2019 Pieces: 602 Minifigs: 0 Price: £54.99 / $49.99 / 59.99€ Links: S@H Brickset Bricklink S@H description: To learn Bastion and Ganymede's origin story, I highly recommend watching the beautiful animated short "The Last Bastion"! The Box The box designs for the Overwatch theme have been pretty unconventional so far, but Bastion's might just be the strangest one yet! The front features Bastion in recon mode guarding the first capture point of the Eichenwalde map which is a fitting location for Bastion. The top has the usual white Lego Overwatch banner and it has the set info underneath it on the left and a Blizzard logo in the lower right. What is odd about it is that it highlights a play feature of the set on the front of the box instead of the back by showing Bastion in its transformed sentry mode in a little box on the right. There is also a small notification in the bottom left letting you know that Batteries are included. Things get even stranger when you turn around the box to see its back. Like with the Dorado Showdown box, the back box art is in portrait format instead of landscape like the front and looks more like your usual front art than back art. It depicts Bastion peacefully hanging out at the edge of the Eichenwalde map with Ganymede sitting on its hand and the city of Stuttgart which Bastion was originally programmed to attack visible in the background. There is also a name tag for Bastion, the URL for the Lego Overwatch product page, and another "batteries included" sign. The right side of the box has another render of Bastion along with some copyright information and a small box demonstrating the light brick functionality which is an uncommon place to have such a play feature highlight. There is more info about the light brick's battery on top of the box as well as an ad for the Lego Life app and a 1:1 scale image of Ganymede. On the bottom there is mostly just a bunch of choking hazard warnings. Contents Inside the box there are an instruction booklet, a sticker sheet, and four numbered bags. Instructions The first eleven pages of the instructions booklet are filled with warnings and other info about the light brick battery. I guess they REALLY want you to be careful with this thing! The eleventh page shows you how to "arm" the light brick and how to replace its battery. The next two pages show you how to use the brick seperator, how to build the set using the numbered bag system, and how to download digital instructions using the Lego Life app. Here is a random instructions page. The steps are easy to follow, and like the Reinhardt & D.Va set, there are several illustrations of these hinges that can click in seven different languages. Towards the end of the booklet there are six pages that show you how to transform Bastion from its recon mode to its sentry mode. Each transformation step fills out an entire page, making the illustrations easy to see and follow. The last two pages contain the inventory. Notable Parts This set has a lot of parts in rare colors such as tan, orange, sand green, and light yellow. There's also that 1x1 round tile with the Overwatch logo printed on it again, and we get an interesting new part in black that looks like a 2x2 tile with a 1x2 plate attached to the top of its center at a 90 degree angle. And then there's the light brick of course which is not super rare, but always great to get in a set. Minifigs Gany-fig Sadly there are no minifigs in this set - however we do get a small brick-built character in the form of Ganymede, Bastion's little bird companion. This is the last thing you build, but I figured I'd get this out of the way before we focus on Bastion. Ganymede is constructed using some clever SNOT techniques and half the parts that are used are in rare colors. The head looks a bit big and lacks some detail around the eyes, but otherwise Bastion's feathery friend looks pretty good and makes a nice addition to the set. The Build The first bag contains a brick separator (yay? ) and the parts for Bastion's head and torso. First you build Bastion's pelvis which is almost entirely built with SNOT (studs not on top). Next you build the hips. This is where the new black bracket piece is used to hold the red ball joint socket vertically so that the socket points down. Once you connect the pelvis and hips, you finish the rest of the torso and the head. This is what Bastion looks like after bag 1: The second bag contains the legs. The way the legs are built fairly straight forward, although they do utilize some SNOT on the sides for stability and detail. The gray round 1x1 plate with a bar sticking out of it is used effectively here to add some greebling to the knees. These are the parts from the third bag. Can you guess for what these are used to build? That's right, these parts are used to build the feet as well as the gatling gun. Bastion's toes are built using an interesting SNOT construction involving two headlight bricks to get that angled-up look. The fourth and final bag contains the parts for the arms and Ganymede. The arms are comprised of multiple moving parts which are connected and then added to Bastion's body. Once Bastion has been "armed", you put together Ganymede and you're done. Spare Parts There are several little bits left over after the build including the Overwatch tile and some of the other rare parts like the round 1x1 plate with handlebar in gray and the rounded 1x1 tile in light yellow. The Completed Set Once completed, Bastion looks quite impressive. This big bot stands about 10” tall and feels very robust. The tan, sand green, gray, and orange color scheme looks great, too. When compared to the Bastion from the game, it holds up pretty well. Aside from some missing details and minor proportion issues, the set looks spot-on. I think the designers really did about as well as could be expected of them. There is only one big inaccuracy that bugs me. If you look at Bastion's back, you will notice that the ammo canister on its gatling gun is completely absent. This is a pretty big oversight considering it's almost as wide as the barrel of the gatling gun itself and I have no idea why they didn't include it. Instead, there is just a small gray tube with the Overwatch logo on it cap which is a nice touch, but doesn't make up for the missing ammo barrel. The ammo belt on Bastion's submachine gun is missing as well, although that's easier to ignore. Bastion actually has a few things in common with WALL-E in that they are the last operating robots of their kind who surpassed their original programming to save humanity and pursue their own interests. To give you an idea of Bastion's scale, here are the two robots having a play date with their pets. Play Features This set not only looks good, but it also has a lot of playability as well. Bastion has an impressive amount of articulation which is demonstrated in the following photo. The arms, shoulders, legs, and feet are all poseable. The hips can turn 360 degrees, the head turns and can look up and down, and the fingers can be put into a variety of poses thanks to being attached via ball joints. Bastion's thumb also has a jumper plate so that Ganymede can sit on it. The only thing that's not poseable as you might have guessed are the knees, but that's okay since Bastion doesn't usually move them much anyway. The arms can be fully stretched out, although it looks a bit awkward as the joint is on the upper arm instead of on the elbow. With such a wide range of motion you can put Bastion into all kinds of poses! You can even have Bastion enter "Rest Mode" by sitting it down. Bastion's eye is light blue when it's in peaceful mode, but you can have Bastion switch to combat mode by pressing the light brick button on the back of the head which is a pretty cool effect. However, there is more to Bastion than meets the eye as its main play feature is its ability to transform into sentry mode. As mentioned before, the transformation only takes six steps and is fairly easy to do. Below is an animated GIF that shows you how it works. The set's description advertises that the transformation can be performed without a rebuilding, and while this is technically true, you do have remove the head unfortunately for the transformation to be complete. DISCLAIMER: Toy does not actually transform by itself. Aside from having to remove the head, the transformation is pretty faithful to how it is in the game, although the energy core in Bastion's chest is not exposed by the transformation. I wouldn't mind if the Bastion in the game didn't have this weak spot either. Here is a picture of Bastion in sentry mode with the removed head beside it. It looks pretty good and about as accurate as it does in recon mode. The gatling gun is mounted on a Technic friction pin, so it can be spun, but not very easily. It would have been kind of cool if the designers could have found a way to incorporate a six-stud shooter so that the gun can actually shoot something, but I appreciate that they focused more on looks than playability. The lack of an ammo container is especially noticeable in this configuration though. It looks pretty good from the back, too, although the arms don't tuck away quite as neatly as in the game, especially the gun arm, so it just ends up sticking up into the air. Ratings Design: 4/5 - Bastion looks great and reasonably accurate in both recon and sentry mode, and Ganymede is a nice addition. I still wonder what happened to Bastion's ammo though. Build: 5/5 - The build utilizes many interesting SNOT techniques as well as some Technic and there isn't much repetition. A very satisfying build experience, even if the stickers are a bit annoying. Minifigs: 0/5 - No figs, no points, sorry. And no, Ganymede doesn't count. Playability: 4/5 - Bastion has a lot of poseability and the transforming feature pretty cool, althougyh not completely flawless. The light brick is a nice touch as well, but kids might be disappointed that Bastion's guns don't actually shoot anything. Parts: 4/5 - Lots of useful parts in nice and rare colors and even a new element. Not too shabby. Price: 5/5 - Over 600 pieces for just 50 bucks is incredibly cheap for a licensed set, even when you consider the lack of minifigs. Overall: 4/5 - It's a shame we don't get a minifig-scale Bastion in this wave, but this large transforming action figure of the character certainly makes up for it, even if it doesn't fit in with the rest of the sets. It looks great in both modes, is very poseable, and feels sturdy, plus it has a light brick and other neat parts. It would have been nice if some aspects would have been a bit more accurate or if it maybe included a minifig to give an extra incentive to buy it, but nevertheless I can highly recommend this set whether you are an Overwatch fan or just enjoy big robots. The Charlatan Bay Infernos' had practiced all year since last years cup in Trador. They little squad was quite good as well. On the day the team gathered for their team photo just happened to be the day disaster struck on the island. This is the last known photo of the team. We are currently unaware of their whereabouts but the town has paid the registration fees just in case they wash ashore in Bastion. . . . . . . . This just in! Somehow against all odds the team made it to Bastion and poses for a team photo. Ooc: my original plan was to have the team gathered on the five fleets monument but I ran into a delay in replicating the build so I had to improvise with what I had to make the deadline. So instead they are in front of it (never got all the ships built lol)

A young man had climbed the gallows platform on the square in Bastion, it had been a while it had been used, but the body of the last one to use the rope was never claimed. Ugh, ugh, My name is Rodebrick of the Independent Layers of Sovereignity Et Reclemations. In short I.L.O.S.E.R. Rodebrick The passing days several creditors have found my office and I have sought out some others. The collective claim to free both the Peacock and the Pearl flying the flag of the Grand Dutchy of Prio has rissen to 750 doubloons. This figure is made up of the Bar tab 160 doubloons, losses of two ships flying SeaRat colours 294 doubloons and 84 doubloons, detainment costs 75 doubloons, occupying the harbour while not trading 110 doubloons, damages sustained by ships flying SeaRat colours 20 doubloons and administration costs 7 doubloons. The collective of creditors expects a swift payment, if no such payment is made, the Peacock and the Pearl will be seized indefinitely, the crew send home and the SeaRat colours hoisted from their mast trunks. The difference in the value of the Peacock and the Pearl and the demanded sum may be taken elsewhere. And when finishing those words Rodebrick claimed down and the crowd that gathered started to disperse, Rodebrick made his way to the ships to deliver the papers in person to the captains.

Currently in Bastion. Rodsh: So? What do you think? Cathy: Think?, It’s just some hideous abandoned house. R: I bought it. C: What? Why would you do that? R: To use as a house. C: For whom? We’ve a ship! R: I Thought you’d like it. C: Like it? Did you got hit with a 2x2 brick in the head or something? It hasn’t got a scrape of paint on it. It’s completely overgrown with some poisonous vine. Not to mention the strangler bush over there! R. Poisonous? it got nice flowers C: DO you even have more then one stud in that brain of yours?! R: It can be painted you know. and some gardener can take down that vine. C: Well I’m not living there. I’d rather sail before the mast on an Oleon Order ship. C. How much did you pay for it anyway? R. Just five Doubloons. C. I’m going back to the ship. We are sailing tomorrow, we've got a ball to attent remember. OOC. I was experimenting with building a vine on a wall. and with the current grey scale challenges on the web in my mind, this was the result. The story followed soon after, and then I decided it was worth the post on here. And yes I did this because I got stuck with the water issue on the moc I had planned, (see shipwright thread)

After passing a very rough Sea of Storms, Rodsh found him self in Bastion. His crew is off to enjoy the town, Cathy is out to get provision for the ship. But Rodsh himself travelled to the outskirts of town just a little up the Lifeflow river where he finds the Shipwright Brothers. Masters in building small boats, sloops, launches, and even the odd canoe, you tell them what you want and they’ll build it. Rodsh is there to order new boats for his ship, as he lost two on his travels, and the other one is beyond repair, or as the boatswain said it, “a rotten death trap”. They recently hired a new apprentice, who today is trying steam bending planks for the first time. He’s quick to find out why they gave him those pliers to hold the plank.

We honour the pirate’s code. And our captain apologizes for his absence; his plans changed. He set sail toward the east. More I cannot tell you yet. But Morgan offers you to sail with his Lady Arlene and several other ships on a trade voyage.” “Trade voyage? Earnestly? He wants me to play the escort for his merchant man? How dares he to slight us? We are no lesser pirates than your crew! We do not trade, nor do we fight for pay. We take what we want. I promised my men rich captures.” Lin had taken herself into a rage. What was this Morgan thinking? Morgan offers you 100 doubloons for your escort. Won’t that be enough to please your crew for a month? Also, you can keep what you catch. Any ship you take as a prize on the voyage will be yours, as long as you defend the convoy. See it as a trial. Take this chance, earn his trust, and soon enough you will sail with Morgan. What say you?” Zhao had calmed down. This wasn’t what she had hoped for. But there weren’t many options left. A few of her men would be furious and take this as a humiliation. But 100 doubloons and the chance to sail with other armed ships weren’t that bad. And on the other hand, if she now returned to the crew without any deal with Morgan they would most likely become mutinous and maroon her on a lone rock somewhere on the open water. “Aye, we have terms. I will escort your convoy. But when we return, I want to talk to your captain.” Mubaku nodded with a smile: “Very well. Welcome to the crew of Benjamin Morgan."

In his younger days Lorenzio Gascoigne was quite the entrepreneur but the only thing that ever paid off was mercenary work. Making his fortune serving all nations, Gascoigne considered none of them to be home. Few who knew him were surprised when he invested heavily in Bastion and paid for the construction of his new home. As for the mercenary work, Lorenzio's son Laurence took over the small mercenary company. They can often be found sailing from one employer to the next aboard the Wight Spider. The attic of Gossamer House is set up as a practice room for the fine arts of swordmanship, a set-up Laurence appreciates greatly. The upper floor of the building hosts the entrance to Lorenzio's library, as well as his bedroom. Knowing the elder Gascoigne is expecting company, Klaus makes his way upstairs to join Talia on the balcony. Even now, Gascoigne continues to entertain visitors. Rumour has it, however, few are friends. There are those who claim that Gossamer House goes by another name, that of the assassin's guild The House of Spiders. -

Heroes, Villains and Legends A Journey Through the Discoveries of the Age of the Exploration: the Ships; the Captains; the People Volume Four: The Self-Styled and So-Called Sea Rats By Quentin Connors Chapter Thirteen: The Bleak Angel So it was that after that particular escapade I found myself again in Bastion, de facto capital of the Sea Rats. Unfortunately, I was also distinctly lacking in funds for further voyages to the newer colonies. Indeed, I was worryingly close to longer being able to retain accommodation for myself and storage for my manuscripts. Forced, as I was, to relocate myself I began to frequent a small tavern near the outskirts of Bastion known as the Lonely Lantern. After a few nights an unusually quiet group entered the tavern. This was a ship's crew, and fortuitously for me they were looking for more recruits. My enthusiasm was dampened but my curiosity piqued when I heard the captain's name: Leon Dracken. This was the crew of the Bleak Angel, a ship surrounded by all manner of tall and sinister tales. But still, I needed money and transport. Here, now, was a chance for both. After a couple more drinks I introduced myself to the ship's first mate, Alastair Jakes, and we discussed the notion of my joining the crew for a short time. To my relief, I was accepted. Rhys Flaidd DeTaillefer Bastion, Day 134 License type: Artisan (small) Despite my suspicions to the contrary, old man Plantagenet made good on his promise...17 days after we arrived in Bastion, the supplies he promised, and more, arrived. Brit and I found an abandoned set of walls that made for a great workshop...It appears the structure may have burned at some time in the past...but the walls are stone and masonry...and as sturdy as an ox. After another few weeks of scrounging and bartering with our new neighbors, The Sail Company opened her doors.... Rhys Flaidd DeTaillefer Despite the rainy weather, we managed to make good progress on Dead Man's Rock. It's a tiny rock protrusion from the sea near the mouth of Bastion's Harbour. Crab at Dead Man's Rock on Flickr We found the ruin of an old building, and through several weeks of diligent effort, Bastion now has a functioning Lighthouse. One aspect of life as a Sea Rat goes unmentioned by the advertising material: That not all plunder is of immediate value to the plunderer. For sure that coinage, jewels, food, ammunition, clothes and craft materials are all of use to a Sea Rat or their ship but other items are of limited use and limited market. Books only matter to those few Sea Rats who can read. A captain's cabin only has so much room for art, and any sensible collector of art will not put it in a cannonball's path. As for antiques, relics and native trinkets, well, those are just wasted space to many. But everything is of value to someone, if you know who and how. That is where Grayther Drave comes in. Drave's emporium serves as a clearing house for items of select market, where a freshly returned crew may unload those more unusual and esoteric items found on their journeys. The ground floor stocks and sells all sorts of small trinkets and oddities for the curious, superstitious or eccentric. But Drave's real success is his other market. For back on the mainland, and in the various colonies, there is a market for rare books, forbidden tomes and native treasures. Some dare visit his store in person. A letter of introduction from an existing client is necessary for a potential customer go gain access the goods kept in the old vaults below the emporium. The rumours that Drave deals in occult goods and supposedly cursed treasures is widespread. One tale claims the man's mask is to hide the consequences of one particularly potent hex. Another claims the mask hides scars from an accident involving alchemy. Rumours that Drave deals with information and has spies across the Sea of Storms persist. Drave employs a young woman named Yukio as a bodyguard and to provide additional security for the store. Thieves are not too common, however, as few want to risk stealing one of the supposedly cursed artifacts. Here, Drave sells a dangerousvaluable book to one of his regular customers, Jacqueline "Jack" Yharnam.

Helping out Dad by Christopher Briggs, on Flickr His name is Vos Tuinstra, he came to settle here after running into troubles in his homeland of Mardier. Vos Tuinstra - Gaffer / Glassmith / Glassblower by Christopher Briggs, on Flickr He's been , for as long as he can remember...trained by his father from a young age. He's been passing the tradition along to his son, Wit....apparently his only family here in the Nest... Family business by Christopher Briggs, on Flickr He seems to enjoy his new profession.... They stock a good variety of glasswares....but more interesting...Vos told me of a "friend" I should go meet just outside of town... While the majority of the people are exploring newly discovered worlds the live in Bastion continues. As you can see this House is well visited, among all layers of society. Game wise does this count as commerce? there is trade, they sell a lot of beverages. @mod's this might be on the edge, please say so if it is over. I can change some or remove a picture.
