    AoM: Stables Phase I

My grandfather teaches me to ride: Today, my grandfather thinks I have completed my riding training. He has shown me all he knows of riding and thinks it will not be long before I will become a Falki Ridder, just like my older brother Hammond. I hope I can be as brave as Hammond. He always was the adventurous hero in the family. As we head back to Falkidalr, I glance back and see the flags of Mitgardia and Erlnad Blar flying atop an outpost in the mountains. Then I look towards home. It has been a tiresome day completing my riding training, and my bed will be most welcome tonight! Stian Vitr AoM-StablesPhase1-2 by Slegengr, on Flickr Without Minifigures: AoM-StablesPhase1-3 by Slegengr, on Flickr -------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for looking. Constructive criticism is most welcome. I wanted this build to be a simpler background, styled after 3-d cartoon maps, while adding a forced perspective. I am not sure it is very forced other than the shrinking trees. Let me know what you think.

She had spent the past few years with her Uncle Richard learning what he had to teach her, but her sisters had remained with her parents. With the plague and the Drow dealt with for now, the road between Avalonia and Mitgardia was thought to be safe. Wyndor had built a large house for he and Valanice soon after they had moved to Dalig Ulv. Valanice enjoyed showing her sisters around and having their help in keeping house while Wyndor was away. Without figs: Comments are welcome! This is one of, if not the largest single building I've attempted to date. I'm happy with some parts, not so happy with others. Like the tower. I really don't like it. So if you have negative feedback on it, I'll probably agree with you. I was running out of bricks, and it was already fully integrated with the rest of the building so I couldn't take it out. So there you have it. Let me know what you think.

    SG's AoM: Farm Phase 2

It's that time of year again. The days are colder and shorter. The leaves begin to fall. Farmer Rudasill admires yet another successful growing season. He knows harvest grows near. This build was harder than expected due to a limited piece selection. I'm planning on picking up more parts for Phase 3. That aside, it was still enjoyable none the less. I particularly liked building the corn and tomato plants. I'm happy to finally work that scarecrow into one of my builds :) Thanks gedren_y for the pumpkin suggestion! It was a pain working with those Indy whips (they always seem to want to curl back up), but I love the end result. C&C are welcome!

    AoM: Farm Phase 2

There are many small farms located around Volhaal in Southern Graystar. However there are fewer that are vinyards. Had this sitting around for over a week, finally had time to take pictures and edit. As per usual C&C are gladly welcome

AoM: Stables Phase 1 by ~ Sir Gareth ~, on Flickr I decided to take a break from working on my Farm Phase II and build this instead. It was rather fun to make. I quite enjoyed building the snow. My favorite part has to be the cheese slopes surrounding the pole. C&C are welcome!

  7. Not much of a story this time. Phase I can be found here, and the obvious inspiration for the tower itself, Combee's wonderful WoW-inspired Ogre Encampment, is here. I'm still unsure how the legs connect to the tower platform in his; mine is a very shaky connection via hinge bricks. Had a lot of fun trying to figure it all out! Over a year after Ruggezh and Tark of the Grashtaz tribe killed the guards of a small outpost, an Orcish tower had emerged in its place. Moving quickly after the scouts returned with news of their conquest, the Dwarven outpost was demolished, the orcs not even bothering to clear out all of the debris--even building upon it, and displaying the remains of the slain guards. The tree next to the outpost was struck down and used to build the rickety tower, along with several other nearby trees. Emboldened by their success and with a foothold in this mountain pass, the orcs invaded the nearby mining town and became entrenched in the region. The dwarves and humans, however, were already drawing plans to drive the orcs back to the Marches and fortify the southwest... "Alas, poor Thorgal...." They shredded the Mitgardian flag, but the colors still shone brightly! The stump of the tree remains, and a tumble of ruined stone serves as crude steps to the ramp spiraling around the tower. In addition to removing the original outpost (built on a couple 6x12 plates attached via jumpers to the greater base), I rearranged several pieces of the surrounding base, mostly what were meant to be loose stones, kicked around as the orcs built their new tower. See the rest on my Flickr! Thanks for taking a peek!

    AoM: Tower Phase 2

Some outposts in Graystar were upgraded during the winter months. More permanent stone towers were built, especially around the city of Volhaal, the captial of Graystar. These particular towers were built on top of old dwarven tunnels from ages past to make them more secure. Tower of Volhaal Storage and Access Tunnel Finally after a long wait for a bricklink order I got my phase 2 built All C&C welcome, and can I move on to phase 3?
  9. Good news. After the orc attack, we (Björn and Ulrich) decided to set aside the beer and start making a better gate, to keep Mitgardia save. After a few weeks of cutting down trees and building a gate, they still were not satisfied. They decided to rest a week, drink some beer (Björn insisted to empty the barrels), and then start to make a gate with stone, and ask for archers. We need to protect the farmers from the orcs. We don't see many people, just farmers working on the frozen lands, preparing for next spring. "Hello good men, we come from Avalonia, and wish to proceed", a soldier in full plate armor says. He has a companion that looks the same. They look like Avalonian knights, but there is something odd. They speak with a weird accent. Also, their weapons are weird. A crossbow, a horn clearly of orcish design, a small metal shield and axe. "Well, I can't let you pass if you don't take of your helmet, so we can see you are real Avalonian knights." With that, the Orcs attack. I can dodge a crossbow bolt, and I jam my spear in his stomach. With normal soldiers, that would be a lethal wound. With full plate, nothing happens. Fighting full plate armor with a spear is not easy. I hear Björn on the gate curse. He jumps on top of the axe soldier, grabs the helmet and jams his spear in one of the eyes. The orc is dead instantly. Meanwhile I am still trying to kill the other orc. He manages to shoot another bolt, which lands in my spear arm. I know if Björn doesn't help me, I am dead. I hear him curse some more. He runs towards the orc, pulls the helmet off and jams his spear in the mouth of the orc. He is also dead. Now I can't fight anymore, my speararm is useless. Everything turns black, as I feel the live slip out of me. Filthy poisoned orc bolts. Shot of the gate with the orcs attacking. Backside of the gate. Well, that's it. My phase ll gatehouse. Hope you like it! C&C welcome!

    AoM: Store Phase 1

There are many places that one can buy weapons around Graystar and the markets in the city of Volhaal are no exception. Just my entry for the store phase 1 hope you guys like it, as per usual all C&C welcome, have an idea for phase 2 just waiting on my bricklink order to arrive
  11. We rejoin Alva Tyrnsdottir sometime after the axe-throwing tournament and sometime after her father began training her in the Arnarvhall style of axe and dagger close-quarters combat. An Arnarvhalling shield maiden must master many martial skills, however, including the traditional Shield Wall employed by viking parties. Training on the sand in full battle dress promotes the strength and coordination necessary for real combat. Though the weapons are blunted, no one enjoys getting hit by them. Tyrn, Alva's own father, acts as the commander of the Red Team. Their goal is to protect him from the Blue Team and vice versa. If either should break through, its commander is exposed and the victory is won for the other side. The commander of the Blue Team is Mad Marrgin, known in Arnarvhall for both his experience with the Shield Wall and his penchant for unorthodox tactics. Finally got around to my latest GoH build! I'm very proud of the water here and hope it looks as good to you guys as it does to me. I also like this Runestone better than the one I put in my Archery Phase 3. I notice now that I'm missing an obvious Mitgardian standard/flag. I hope all the green sleeves and yellow hands/faces are enough! Anyway, credit goes to someone else for the warhammer design. I only wish I could remember who's build it was where we talked about it. Same goes for the Runestone really! I should start making a list of stuff I see and then put in builds but sometimes there's a serious time lag and I forget. :( So please take credit if you see something familiar! Oh and Phase 1 here.

    AoM: Tower Phase 1

Outposts can be found across the divide between North and South Graystar. Since the problems in Nocturnus and Avalonia, Edward von Graystar ordered the building of more of these outposts. This particular type are temporary and are in place until a tower can be built in there stead. Just a quick entry for the AoM: Tower Phase 1. This is one of my favourite builds so far, and any C&C is welcome as per usual, also the tan tops of the wood was inspired from one of SK's builds
  13. Finally! We have enough money to buy a cart, and start selling ale! Maybe, if the sales are very good, we can buy a real inn. "He Hjalmar! We need to get moving! The ale doesn't sell itself!" "One moment Knut, I'm coming!" My little brother, Knut is very impatient when it comes to money. I whisper something in the horses ear, and it starts walking. Slowly to not shake the ale too violently we start moving. To the horizon, selling ale! After half a day of walking, sometimes selling a cup of ale (or two) to some nice looking farmers. Knut says: "I am thirsty, let's rest a bit and drink some ale." He sits down and starts drinking. Who cares? We are free! We can do whatever we want! I join him and drink some nice ale. Hjalmar and Knut, traveling over a snowy road. And here are the two lucky brothers, drinking ale and enjoying life. My entry to the Inn phase l. Hope you like it, C&C welcome! (And can someone say what C&C stands for?)
  14. Here we are. In the cold, cold winter night. We are guarding a smugglers route, that has been discovered last month. We, Björn and I, Ulrich, are standing here for almost a week now. So far we saw no smugglers. Didn't think we'd see any. They will just use another route. Mark my words. And it is cold here. It is middle winter now. Avalonian smugglers will stay inside. I look at Björn. He needs to drink less. Since we got here, he hasn't been sober. "He, Ulrich! Want (hic) some beer? (hic). That will defrost (hic) your fingers." "Quiet! I heard something." I say. "yeah, my (hic) stomach. It has not(hic)hing to eat." "Just shut up! I heard something!" There it is again. Some creature is moving through the snow. Is it a smuggler? No! It is an orc! "Grab your spear Björn! We are under attack!" I hear a snoring sound. Of course. When I need him, he is asleep. Great. I hide behind a large rock. I see nothing. There! The moon shines on a dark figure, moving towards Björn. I jump on the rock and let my spear land in the head of the orc. I hear a nice splashing sound. Excellent. One down. Is that it? Will there be more? It seems quiet now. Alright. Need to be careful here. A pic of Björn drinking, an orc attacking and Ulrich jamming a spear in the orc's head. I now see it looks like the orc has his axe in a weird grip, it is just a double bladed war axe. And here is a pic of the gate. More of a roadblock, but as it is only a Phase l, I think it is enough. Next phases will be much more gate like. That's it, the Phase l gatehouse entry. Hope you like it, C&C welcome.
  15. And with the ale seller, I finally completed all the `phase 1` builds of the Age of Mitgardia project, this final one being part of the Town - Inn line. The build is stated to evolve from an Ale Seller to a Beergarden to an actual complete Inn. Now, I must say this was actually the hardest for me to get completed. Not the build itself, but the fact of WHAT needed to get build. I could get an image of an inn in my mind`s eye without problems, even a beergarden (Octoberfesten!) but a simple ale vendor... The fact that this doesn`t seem to be the most popular treeline within my guild didn`t help that much either, as I couldn`t take look for references around that much, I believe only Jodocus had done one so far, but that was about it. So in the end I went for a simple cart with barrels, add in a bit of fluff text and hope I was on the right track on what to build. Captain Grumphs Banana Ale, or Banale as it is known in Mitgardia, is an exotic product created by the gorilla people of the south. Though no one actually knows where or how it is produced, let alone how a heap of mammals manage to recreate a brewery process, it is however a welcome guest often seen at the `not per se in October Octoberfesten` in the village of Merak. So now with all the little starting moc`s completed (and some over the past months already disassembled again for parts, as I don`t have the truly massive collections of especially newer parts and colours, aka everything from after my Dark Ages), I`ve started planning a couple of next phases and builds on paper. Yes, I`m that old style, even though I have LDD installed, I rarely actually use it... I just draw a rough sketch on whatever piece of paper I have at hand at the moment an idea pops in my head. Though I won`t be able by a longshot to finish all the treelines during the rest of the year, I HAVE set myself a personal goal of at first try and complete at least every line if the AoM carries over into 2015, then at the very end expand on builds that need to be corrected to obtain the relevant subtitle or title (like my Defenses - Tower). Because that special AoM tag is my target to obtain since AoM kicked off ;-)
  16. The next build in the series for Age of Mitgardia, and together with the Inn tree the only ones I still need to start up, is the Gatehouse series in the Defenses tree. Now the tree specifies at first a simple gatehouse, then a defended Gatehouse and finally the whole shabang with oil and such. This all results if you pass in the Gatekeeper subtitle. Now, I had a good day in MoCcing today, as you will see over the coming days, but I managed to start and complete no less then 4 builds. So to kick it all off, here is the Gatehouse phase 1. In the earlier days of rural Mitgardia, when it was still all rough lands, inhabited by savages (which, on the contrary to what a Kaliphlin dandy would tell you, was not `last week`), the `gatehouses` where nothing more then cave passages. These often where cut from the surrounding hill sides by early dwarven miners, then when they got abandoned over time where often taken over by the first human tribes who inhabited both the caves, as build their early settlements on the other sides of the passages, making great use of the natural defenses that way. The gatehouses where usually nothing more then raised platforms hewn from the rocks, where the watchers, well, watched for potential dangers, while maintaining fires to one the one hand scare off wild animals, and on the other give travellers a chance to find the passageways.
  17. Part l (sorry about the quality...) "Snow is early this year" Björn thought. Since he found the ring, 10 years past. He inherited the farm 4 years ago. Since then, he was very busy giving orders. His father won a sort of lottery and won a lot of money. He hired a few guys to help on the farm. He also expanded the farm. Unfortunately his father fell of the roof of the stable he was trying to fix. He broke his neck and died. Now, Björn was walking besides a field with crops. "Hurry with harvesting them!" He shouted at the workers. With the snow being this early this year, the crops were needed more then ever. It promised to be a long and very cold winter. None was to be wasted. Suddenly, a guy with a scarf over his mouth and a piece of cloth over his head jumped out of the crops. He pointed his sword at Björn and shouted: "Give me that ring! Now!" "I said now! Give it!" "Drop your sword!" Alfadas shouted as he run to the robber. He was in town, visiting some distant relatives. He heard screaming and decided to check it out. A Mitgardian guard came with him. The thief decided to fight. He lost. Alfadas asked Björn what it was all about. "This ring. Once it was a very powerful ring. I couldn't show it to anyone, I couldn't throw it away. Anyway, it is a long story. Can I invite you to my farm to talk about it?" "Yeah, sure. I could use some company, other than this nice guard." "very well, let's go". This is my AoM Farm Phase ll entry. Hope you like it, C&C welcome. As you have guessed, this story will be continued.
  18. The second phase of the Store tree, this build dictates to make a Market Stall. Phase one had been a merchant and his cart, and in my case was the small boat, and for this build I decided to incorporate as much elements from that little sloop into his stall itself... meaning basically the table only. The final phase is to be an actual store, and for that, like the Storeroom, I`m planning on incorporating the stall itself as the storefront. But that is still far away music... Ambrosia wanted a nice diamond to go into the ring her grandfather had given her. So when she learned when a diamond merchant, specialising mostly in ice coloured diamonds had set up his stall at the edge of town, she took gramps along. After all, he had the money... Displaying a selection of his finest gem stones (the `mirror` on the table is from a Space `Explorers` set), the merchant also carries a whole lot more of gemstones in his storage chests, including those connection pieces you got in the early days that held the transparant studs. At first I thought to also put a bodyguard or something in it, but in the end went against that idea as it would make it all to military looking, and Mitgardia might be a land of warriors, it is not under Martial Law (at current, the Book 2 Challenge is nearing our borders). For the rest, the build is pretty straightforward for a market stall, because in the middle ages, they consisted usually of a table, a sail, and some supports. Which is basically how markets still look these days, hurrah for slow evolution ;-)
  19. Long before the cities of men had sprung up across Historica, the dwarves had already begun to shape the world. Unable to resist the call of the ore from deep within the Mitgardian mountains, 4 of the most influential dwarvish clans claimed territories amidst its peaks, and an age of prosperity soon ensued amongst the dwarves. The oldest and wisest foresaw that all good things must come to an end, and in preparation built a watchtower with intentions of holding the pass to the Mitgardian mountains. And his wisdom proved prudent. The richness of the clans soon drew the attention of the wild orcs from the Western Orcish Marches. Attack after attack came, and while the individual orcish clans were always beaten back, he knew that it would be a matter of time before a shaman united the clans and with their combined might the tower would not hold. Calling upon the elders of the other dwarf clans, a plan was hatched to fortify the tower. Each of the 3 remaining clans sent their best masons and builders, and whatever else they could spare. Thus, Gathul Khazad, the fortress of the dwarves, was bricked. Banners were raised, with a simple embalm representing the four clans, and soldiers were sent to forswear loyalty to no individual clan, but for the greater good of Mitgardia. Each clan had built in their own unique style, but what emerged was a fortress capable of holding back the orcish clans. As the centuries passed, walls were damaged but never breached, and always repaired. As unrest grumbled in modern Mitgardia, the call to arms was made, and soldiers prepared to move out. No firm orders had been given, but it was rumored that they would be lead by the mysterious stranger who had traveled far to reach Gathul Khazad. Unusual it was, but the troops had been trained to obey, and if that was what the commanders had decreed, then it would be so. As they lined up to march, many glanced up at the stranger, who would spend a further 3 days in the fortress before making haste to catch up with the troops. Until then, Dorrim was in charge of marching the forces through the treacherous mountain paths. I initially built and finished this for the HoM Challenge, but real life happened and simply never had time to photograph anything. In building it I wanted to try out different towers mashed into one castle. It's also my first real big castle moc, and my first round tower as well. Also wanted to play around with using wargs as beasts of burden. Couldn't have done it without all the inspiration and insights gained from all the great builders here in GoH and Eurobricks in general, so thanks to all. Sigfig Nivre can be seen in the white hood, and there are a few more pictures on my Flickr stream. Comments and criticisms more than welcome as usual. Also - Tall dwarves. They're a thing now. Precedence set by Ecc, thanks bud.
  20. This is my first post in a long while so hopefully I can start catching up This is my attempt at farm phase 1. Just a small scene depicting a farmer ploughing his field (manually) while his son de-stones and pulls weeds out of the ground. This was also my first attempt at using GIMP editor, took awhile but i think I did alright All C&C welcome
  21. Long ago, when the guilds were still young, outposts were established throughout the western range to keep watch on the Orcish Marches. In the spirit of cooperation fostered by the recent formation of the great guilds, a human contingent was dispatched to each outpost to join the Dwarven sentries keeping the ways thru the mountains clear and safe. One such outpost along a minor road a couple days' journey northwest of Erikson was manned one spring day by a human named Denric Wulfsen, far from his home outside Nordheim, and the dwarf Thorgal Axehand out of distant Omurtag. Most of the outposts in these parts were dwarf-built, and Denric & Thorgal often passed the long hours of their shifts arguing over whether theirs was a watchtower or merely an outpost. Thorgal firmly believed it to be a tower, only exceeded by the great structures within the halls of the Dwarven cities. Denric refused to budge, noting his usual perch as the resident archer was barely a man's height off the ground. For three months the pair had been stationed there, alternating with another human/dwarf duo every 12 hours, spending their time off duty at a small mining town three miles inland. It was a quiet life, with only the occasional trader or traveler passing near their outpost. Word of orc incursions further north had reached the mining town, but there was little fear of any raiders so far south. The only excitement they'd had on duty was when Thorgal dozed off against the nearby tree and a wolf mistook him for an easy meal. He was startled out of sleep with a yell, and only managed to get one wild glancing blow against the hungry creature before Denric's arrow pierced its heart. On that particular spring day, over a month since the wolf incident, the two were bickering over the outpost's status, keeping an eye on the road in front of them but neglecting to keep watch on the woods & rocky hillsides around them... Tark and Ruggezh, two orc scouts from the Marches, were part of an offensive seeking weak points to gain passage thru the mountains to target the richer lands to the east. Traveling much further south than the other scouts and raiders, the pair found a suitable spot they deemed too far from Erikson to warrant much defense. For a week they observed the occupants of the outpost from a distance, both shifts, and found the two on duty that day to be the best targets given their frequent if mild arguments. Ruggezh led Tark thru the woods northwest of the structure, approaching from behind as the watchmen bickered. Ruggezh gestured for Tark to take care of the dwarf, while he'd attack the human up top, who had foolishly left the ladder down. Sadly--or, perhaps, fortunately--Thorgal and Denric never knew what hit them. Their petty squabbling was the gateway to a shift in power in the region, for a time anyway... Here's a better view of the players: More pics in the full Flickr album! Thanks for viewing! This is my first real MOC structure. Can't wait to get Phase II done, but vacation beckons...

He was the 2nd generation of corn farmers to work this land. He had improved his father’s work by building a small mill on the property. This meant they could harvest the corn and grind it without having to haul it around in wagons. OoC: I thought about adding more brown plates inbetween the corn stalks, but felt that the straight green gave a better feel to the build. Let me know what you think! EDIT: Can a MOD please change the title to "Proud Farmer - AoM: Farm Phase II"

There were many farmers and other land owners that claimed Dålig Ulv as their home and all were happy to befriend Valanice. Her charm made them comfortable and her honest desire to help in what little ways she could while she visited them made them love her. Just a couple days ago Valanice’s parents had sent their youngest, Olivia, to stay with Valancie and Wyndor for some time while they dealt with the Drow. Valanice had spent the past few years with her uncle, Robert, in Beleriand, and hadn’t seen her sister in a long time. Today she was visiting Tom and Brenda with Olivia. Valanice was watching her sister lead the horse around the track as he ran the mill that crushed the corn from Tom and Brenda’s farm. They had hired the services of one of the local dwarves, Hashbaz, to help them around their property. He was a nervous dwarf. He always seemed to be looking over his shoulder and seemed to ever be worried about something. But he was a hard worker and Tom needed his help to bring in all the crops this year. (Sorry this is so much like Gunman's entry! I had no intention of plagiarizing his build. I've had the idea for awhile, but he beat me to building it!) (I like the angle of the first picture better but this one is for those who like a picture of the complete build without anything cropped out)

Mitgardians were used to seeing snow 80% of year. The town watch of Dalig Ulv stayed well covered when they were on shift. This was a particularly cold evening and it was just beginning. So when the guard was told to take a break for an hour and was slipped a few coins. He didn't ask any questions. He wouldn't have needed to ask questions anyway since this wasn't the first time that Lief had bribed him to give him a few uninterrupted hours in the watchtower by himself. Lief waited till the guard was on his way back to the city wall before settling in to wait for his visitor. He didn't have to wait long until the hooded woman hoisted herself up into the tower. "I grow tired of waiting!" said Lief through his teeth. "Patience sir. The time has almost come. Each day we draw closer to unleashing the Tri-Council on Mitgardia" answered the woman. "You are starting to get sloppy" said Lief. "Pjeter and Wyndor found some of your handiwork near Treacleheim." "Do not worry yourselves with our business" replied the woman. "Continue to supply us with gold and the items we request, and we will take care of the rest. You will not have to worry about anyone else standing in your way for much longer."
