Has been a while since I last showed some of my creations. I recently did an alternate model for the 42123 set with a special functionality and wondered if something like that could not also be done with the parts from 42093. And this is the result, the MDB attaccabrighe - an Italian fastback with gull-wing doors and a high-powered supercharged I4 engine (currently not fully color correct because of unavailable parts and also still WIP): Now about the special functionality: It's engine is swappable! So far you can use an I3, a V6 and a V8 as replacement engine for the stock I4 engine (all engines also compatible with the AMX 4s). The original I4 of the AMX 4 Turbo and the original V5 of the AMX 4 Biturbo can't be used unmodified in the attaccabrighe though, as it's engine bay is 2 studs narrower than the one of the AMX 4s and the V5 also requires a different crank shaft. The engines are attached to either two axle holes or two pin holes. The attaccabrighe will eventually be made available on Rebrickable and also receive a selection of aftermarket parts (like the ones for the AMX 4s) and maybe also some OEM modifications (e.g. wide rear wheels!) Sports cars like the AMX 4s or the attaccabrighe of course also need an opponent apart from themselves. And there is one car that has enough potential to keep up with them - the MM Hammond Executive. More on that one later, for now just one picture showing a WIP model aside the attaccabrighe:

[MOC] GTR Space Figther [42123 alternate model]
vascolp posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi Everybody! This is GTR Space Figther, an alternate model of set 42123. It was a very cool building. 42123 has very few functions, and not many gears, so it was a nice challenge. I was able to include three functions, two of them "spring loaded", using flex axles as springs, which was quite fun and it works very well! Notice also the front of the ship. It is built completely off the standards (with some ilegal stuff, I suppose) and in fact it is a bit fragile, but surprisingly it holds very well. Although some of them for decoration purposes, it uses 95% of the parts (795 parts). And it is possible to have a seat for a droid! The features are: Retractable Feet "Spring Loaded" X-Wings Retractable Side guns There are free instructions on rebrickable. Below are some pictures and a video. More pictures here. It seems I am starting to have a fleet! Hope you like it! VascoLP -
42093 42098 42123 42138 Mid-sized cars comparison
Void_S posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Once I got a veird idea to compare the exisiting "mid-scale" cars to see how they match (or don't in size, wheelbase and other dimensions). Here is the result of overlaying the folloeing cars: 42093 Chevrolet Corvette 42098 "Fake Chevrolet Camaro" 42123 McLaren Senna 42138 Mustang Shelby GT500 I used the front-left wheelarch (panted in red) as an anchor and that is what I get: The biggest surptise for me was that Senna is not that low as may look like - its roof is even the higest one. Only "Fake Camaro" is higer, but due to lifter rear axle. Another discovery - the rear overhang of Shelby GT500 (I saw it as disproportionally short) is just only 1 stud shorter than McLaren's one Corvette's front overhang appeared only 1-stud shorthet than McLaren's "nose" And now the wheelbases: early-built Chevrolettes shares the same wheelbase, than +1 stud longer goes Shelby and once again +1 stud longer goes McLaren- 9 replies

This model based on one of the famous Volvo truck - Iron Knight. The main idea was to replicate this truck in small scale and use for this just parts from Lego set 42123 McLaren Senna. Definitely not all shapes and parts of the original truck I was able to build properly, but I think it is compromise in scope of limited range of parts. Hi :) Today I wanna show my first finished alternate model - Racing Truck - B model of 42123 set. Racing Truck - 01 by Bricksley, on Flickr The set 42123 was bought at the end of December 2020 and the alternate model itself was ready on January 2 :D Unfortunately, the premiere was a bit longer ;) The truck is built of 554 bricks and includes the same functions as the model A, i.e. working V8 engine, front steering axle, opening doors. I also tried to show some details. [MOC] 42123 alternates by TGBDZ
TGBDZ posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi! Finaly got my hands on a new set that I could use for making new alternates - 42123 Mclaren - it's a really great set, but when it came to deciding what to make, it turned out to be a lot harder then I expected. Almost no gears and functioning elements means that the look is the main point for being a successful alternate. I usually make my alternates with the all stickers, and this one was not an exception so taking that into acount it was logical to make something related to racing, but I didn't want to stick with just a random racecar, I wanted for it to be something a bit more special. Thanks @marceriusLV (my brother) for giving me the idea that I could use less than 4 wheels for a racing car, and we all know that the most popular three wheeler is Morgan. MORGAN 3 wheeler concept Functions: Steering - controlled by the steering wheel V4 - moving pistons driven by the rear wheel As with previous alternates - the instructions are available at Rebrickable Cheers! UPDATE. Decided to put all the alternates under one topic so here is an update. BAJA Racing truck After making a true three wheeler I decided to stick with 4 wheels, seeing that there are several truly great racing cars/formulas already made I thought of making something a bit more offroad. Initial inspriation was from the legendary Dakar rally car - Schlesser buggy. As usual while making alternates not all things went as planned and in the end I got something more similar to BAJA racing truck, rather then a proper Dakar rally car. Nevertheless I really like the end result. Functions: HOG steering Pendular front axle (similar to the 42122 Jeep set) Rear axle suspension using flex axle Mid mounted V8 working engine, driven by the rear wheel. As usual I try to make 3 builds form one set, and this time was no exception. Sea Sparrow For the 3rd model I decided to not use the wheels at all, so there are basically 2 options - something that floats or flies, I chose the flying option. At first I wanted to make a propeller plane but after 20 minutes of struggle It was clear to me that the plane is not the way to go. Helicopter on the other hand, was comming together super fast and after three evenings I already had a finished alternate (usually it takes much longer for me to make a properly working model). I Didn't want to stick with traditional Lego helicopter functions - working rotors that are linked together, so I managed to add a third function as well. Functions: Working main rotor linked with the rear rotor V4 engine connected to rotors (I know that helicopters have different motors :D ) Safety clucthes on both rotors that allow the blades to slip Working V4 engine is hidden behind the panels As always, instructions for my alternates can be found on my REBRICKABLE page. Cheers! -
Lego 42123 McLaren Senna GTRâ„¢ MODs and improvements
Zerobricks posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I got my 42123 a month or so ago and while it's a very awesome set out of the boy I knew I had to give it a proper differential. Here's how I did it in LDD: In order to preserve the original engine position the differential is moved back one stud: A pair of 8 tooth gears transfer the power from wheels to the differential: And while I was at it, I also made the steering work using 8 and 24 tooth gears: I plan to make a detailed HOW:TO video tomorrow, so stay tuned. Meanwhile you can download the LDD here: https://bricksafe.com/files/Zblj/42123-differential-and-working-steering-wheel-mod/42123 Differential and Working Steering Wheel MOD.lxf -
42123 McLaren Senna GTR [VIDEO REVIEW]

OK, so this set comes as a successor to the somewhat controversial 42093 Corvette set, and long story short, I'm blown away by how much of a MASSIVE improvement it is:
