Ch II: DG Collab: Forest Refuge of the Order of Eden
Thomas of Tortuga replied to robuko's topic in Guilds of Historica
Oh wow, that is a gorgeous tree. I LOVE those creature parts added to the tree, and even more that you worked them into the story. Also, even though there are gaps in the house, it looks really nice in the ramshackle style. The large eves coming over the edges help here, too. The only critique I could think of would be to add a second vine made with the palm trunks to match the first, and to add a few more leaves on top, but with the pieces (I assume ) you had, really nice work.- 30 replies

Thank you! I'm glad you're liking the story so far Thank you, Gabe! That was one of my goals, to make sure I could get mostly Lego in all the backdrops. I'm glad the different techniques flow well together. Yes, the stonework on the lower level. (Or the Tudor woodwork on the second floor. I tried hard on both sections ) Thank you! I'm pleased you like it! -

Looking nice! Small nitpick, but I think you should make that back shield level on top.

C.II: DG Collab: Cat B: The sanctuary of Bloodleaf Shrine
Thomas of Tortuga replied to Gabe's topic in Guilds of Historica
Very nice work! The sand green, dark red, and white work wonderfully together on the tower, and the details like the drying racks and the tent are terrific. The tree in the background looks good, too, although there are some gaps in the bark. EDIT: Never mind about that, I just realized that's all one tree! One thing I noticed was the contrast between the peaceful greens on the tree and the tower, and the red and orange leaves on the ground. I think the scene might look a little better if you made the leaves on the ground stay in the green family, rather than changing so dramatically. Also, is that ... Peter in the tent?- 44 replies

Thomas of Tortuga replied to kabel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice work! I see this was influenced by Bag End, hmm? There's a good mix of the different tree types here, but soem of the hillside patches look too bare. Maybe you could add some leaves over the curved slopes to make things more textured. -
Nice job! I like the pine trees! @Scaevola- they could be young trees, though

Thank you! Thanks! I didn't really think she would fit into this scene well, since the scenario is so chaotic. I'd love to see your take on the tree! Thank you! I basically thought of that while I was studying Legonardo's photostream- he puts thatch on most of his houses, to good effect. I'll try to pick up a shot of the ruins tomorrow. -
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the water, but I'll probably just add better waves in with another build for that credit

The Sapphire is a heavy galley of Kaliphlin, used for transport of large or valuable cargo up and down Historica. A renowned treasure hunter is riding the Sapphire back to Kalihlin, after exchanging her latest find for a unique chicken golem from Omurtag. Each oar is powered by husky slave rowers. (Note that many of them are wearing police uniforms and Viking helmets. There's probably some Norweigian rock band that dresses like that. Moving on...) A cookstove on deck provides hot meals for the crew. It's set on a bed of thick clay, so stray sparks won't reach the wooden deck. The lavishly furnished cabin. The ship has excellent defenses, such as crossbows and this light-weight ballista. The bow is armed with a modified version of the Barquan Fire system first developed in Kaliphlin. Swift and powerful, the Sapphire will continue to ply the waves around Kaliphlin for years to come. I originally was going to use these hulls for a commandeered Mitgardian vessel, but then I saw Gabe's Barquan Dromon. I decided to use the hulls as the basis for a Kaliphlin ship instead, and I think it turned out rather well. Thanks for viewing! EDIT for UoP claims: +1 Waves +1 Shipping by sea / water +1 Minifig posing

Finalising the [Brick]Haven Guard - Orange or Dark Orange?
Thomas of Tortuga replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
My two cents as a potential customer: I'd be thrilled to get pirate uniforms in dark orange. This whole project is looking terrific, and I really hope Lego considers this as an addition to their rumored Pirate theme. It would be such a cop-out if they dismissed this proposal Ideas-style: "This proposal conflicts with a current playtheme and will not be considered." -
