I know pf controls the crane. Is it possible to add an ir receiver and steer/drive the wheels like a remote control car?

two controllers to one hub would be nice, because then we could just leave one controller on the train (boxcar maybe?) so it will never stop if it goes out of range.

You have a good idea here. I think I see a way I can make it the original size though, while still using your idea.

I think you can do this already?) an adapter for PF components Regular motors (not just train motors) letting you adjust speed, as opposed to just on/off LEDs that let you change color Really bright LED

Well, i've purchased both PuP trains. Not entirely interested in the designs, but I feel I more or less had to buy them for Lego to continue supporting the line.

I got the new passenger train. Something looks off about it to me, but the pup works well

I have not. I haven't had lego take this long for a response before either; I have a confirmation that I submitted something on 8/4/2018, but I haven't received any more correspondence.

Also the old ones seem to be slightly stronger

I'm learning! And no better way to learn than to completely submerse yourself!

One thing I'm heavily considering is using aftermarket LEDs to light up my trains as opposed to using official lego options.
