[MOD] 42009 Mobile Crane - MODs and Improvements
Jurgen Krooshoop replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That would't be a real alternative IMO, but could be very interresting though. It propably is, but I chose an M-motor, so I could make the wheels turn slower, which looks more realistic. And it's still easy to controll.- 468 replies

[MOD] 42009 Mobile Crane - MODs and Improvements
Jurgen Krooshoop replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@ Alasdair: An alternative for the Ultimate 42009 ? That would be awesome !! Some specs of the Ultimate 42009: Total max height: 85 cm 1 x PF-XL-motor for drive 5 x PF-M-Motor for outriggers (2 x), steering, winch & rotation 2 x PF-L-motor: Boom lift, boom extention, Boom extention can propably be done with M-motor as well (not tested yet) 2 battery-boxes, both can be standard AA-boxes, but I'm using 1 x 8878 Double metal hook- 468 replies

[MOD] 42009 Mobile Crane - MODs and Improvements
Jurgen Krooshoop replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Just as I did with the Ultimate 8043 I have fully motorized my 42009. All the functions are remote controlled, including steering, driving and rotation. Other improvements are: boom extends further and steering lock has been increased. I think I will call it the Ultimate 42009. Full instructions are planned ...- 468 replies

There is a better really big mobile crane than 42009
Jurgen Krooshoop replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
First of all thumbs up for designer Han !! Great Moc's and instructions. I've built this MOC, and here are my pro's and con's: Pro's: Size Looks Steering Double pneumatics Building experience Con's: Sliding out the crane has too of friction Chains break easily Sliding counterweight system is not properly fixed and can easily get loose I disassembled this model quickly after building it and reverted it back to the "normal" 8421, keeping the double pneumatics and using a heavier hook (by adding 2 more metal hooks. I think I'll preferr the new 42009 . -
Tarantula Trial truck with building instructions
Jurgen Krooshoop posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Allthough this model was created in the summer of 2012, I’ve never been able to make the time to publish it. So finally, I finished the building instructions, make pictures and compiled a video to send this model onto the world wide web. This model was make as light and simple as possible. For propulsion 1 PF-XL was used to drive all the wheels. There are no differentials. It has 1 : 7.2 gear reduction, so it’s not fast, but it is very powerfull. Steering is done with 1 PF-M motor which is mounted inside the front axle. The unimog Portal hubs and ball-joint parts create 2 flexible live axles with smooth suspension. This thing is capable of easily crossing various obstacles (including Supercars LOL). It’s been designed to use the “standard” Truck-trial wheels and Power-puller wheels. And the colour of the bodywork can easily be changed by exchanging only 4 Technic Panels. My preferred colour are Metallic Green and Silver 8-) It’s been thouroughly tested. I brought 2 of these Tarantula’s to the Lego Fanwelt-event in Cologne 2012, where they were driven (tortured) by kids between 5 and 8 years old. Both trucks survived, not 1 u-joint or gear was broken. Free buiding instructions are available on the instructions page of my website. The model consists of 819 parts and weighs about 1 kg when using the 8878 rechargeable battery. Of course, the 88000 AAA-battery box can be used as well. -

Tarantula Trial truck with building instructions
Jurgen Krooshoop replied to Jurgen Krooshoop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Philo: So you're one of the guys making parts for the LDraw-library ? Than I should thank you: without those parts I wouldn't be able to make these instructions. -

I use Power puller tyres & rims, but also the 9398 tyres with the rims of the power puller wheels for this truck. -
The Ultimate 8043 (modifications)
Jurgen Krooshoop replied to Jurgen Krooshoop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
No, you shouldn't have to remove anything if you want to recharge the 8878. It was designed for the 8878. If you have the AAA-box, you'll have to take some parts off. -

@ Matthewclso: I just checked the files on my website with win XP and IE 8) where the instructions are hosted, but there is nothing wrong the file. I suggest you delete the downloaded document (the one that doesn't work) and try downloading it again. Or try it on a different PC if you can. If nothing works, contact me through email: info@jurgenstechniccorner.com -

The Ultimate 8043 (modifications)
Jurgen Krooshoop replied to Jurgen Krooshoop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Indeed, when the dipper is fully in, the U-joint won't work so well. You could restore the LA-connection to the dipper to the original position, but it will comprimise the working range of the dipper. No I recycled my Ultimate 8043 quite some time ago, and I have no plans to build it again. If I'll build an excavator, I'll rebuild my Zorex-220. Or maybe I'll try building Jennifer Clark's JS-220 ... -
The Ultimate 8043 (modifications)
Jurgen Krooshoop replied to Jurgen Krooshoop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I saw in the video that the LA was stuggling to move the bucket when the dipper was half way. The u-joint wasn;t making an exessive ange at that point. When the Dipper is fully in, the u-joint makes an angle which is too big, but that's something else. You basically have 2 choices: have limited range of motion of the dipper or make a concession in bucket motion. The best would be not to have a u-joint there at all... -
The Ultimate 8043 (modifications)
Jurgen Krooshoop replied to Jurgen Krooshoop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The noise you hear with the boom fully fown is definately the sound of the internal Clutch of the LA's When you hear this sound, it means you can't go any lower. The Boom of the 8043 doesn't go down so low, that's one of the reasons I designed the Zorex-220 PF-excavator. The reason why the bucket sometimes jams propably has to to with the friction of the LA. I've found that when the LA is fully in or out, you need more power to "break it loose". have you tried exchanging the Bucket-LA with another LA ? -

Black is propably the only other colour in which it can be built, exept for the flex axles. I've been thinking about making it in this black/red combo. -
