Because the building is so dark, the gold 1x1s really help define the roof and excellent use of the big gold quarter dome piece.

Could be the top of a spooky looking tree or bush.

The solution to this problem is obvious.

It definitely looks better with the green above the awning.

I agree that it's a nice detail to have which any fan will recognize.

LEGO Speed Champions 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
gotoAndLego replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
I suppose your thoughts on 8-Wide SC depend on what you do with the cars. If you only display them on a shelf then they look good; however, if you use them in your town layout they look oversized even on the road plates. I really hope Lego doesn't adopt 8-wide for all their City vehicles because just imagine how huge busses, ambulances, and fire-trucks would look at 10 or 12 wide. -
That won't make it look taller. Just make each step one plate taller; the stairs should fit the building instead of the other way around. Even if you're not crazy about the way the slightly taller steps look, that's such a minor hidden detail compared to the exterior which you will see all the time.

Why do you say that? Using this as an example, you could have dark-green above the awning with the row of dark red bricks above that.

It has a lot of books, they're just brick-built; similarly, my Library MOC has six bookshelves of books and four open books which are made from regular pieces. At least Lego isn't claiming that they are books in the same way they called the 1x2 printed tile in Gingerbread House a mini-fig. I would have liked more than just one of the book pieces.

Just voted. I agree with the sentiment that there should be size restrictions for next year's contest; presenting an entire street or 7 foot tall/6 baseplate monster, while cool, isn't fair against something which is the scale of an official set. Might I suggest no more than 32x64 and only one building. I don't think it matters if its on a thicker base provided the technic 1x2s are where they should be on the actual ground surface of that base. For 2020 maybe pin a "Best of 2020" thread at the top of this forum and then it's up to everyone to post a photo and link of theirs in there.

There are so many cool details and techniques that Id be surprised if you could fit an interior in there; you'd probably need to make the walls 3 thick to hide all the window and wall techniques. Which parts did you use behind the 2x2 turntable tops on the first floor of the center, dark orange building?

Questions about Lego 60204 Sky Police Diamond Heist
gotoAndLego replied to ks6349's topic in LEGO Town
Might be easier and cheaper to just build the police truck from your parts and Bricklink anything you are missing. -
Happy new year Greg, nice updates as usual. I look forward to all your stories this year. Just followed you on Flickr, not sure why I hadn’t sooner.

The orange is supposed to be a patina of rust, aging, and wear; I’d recommend going with dark-orange and medium flesh if you can.

[Review] #75273 Poe Dameron's X-wing Fighter
gotoAndLego replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Looks really cool and since the number X-Wing play-sets I've purchased could be counted on a closed fist this might be the one. But is that really the best place they could have found for the rubber bands? Bleh! -
Just use the sand green brick-bricks. It looks good with them.

You know, I love MOCs like this and a most excellent balloon.

I particularly like the AFOLs who rage against price increases which are also driven by Lego giving their employees raises (you'd think adults would be aware of this need).

Star Wars, Hoth MOCs. I always build on base plates, but then again everything I build is intended for our LUG’s show layouts.
-
I’m with you on that except it was also my first set after my dark ages. I really like this MOC, its like an updated FB with newer smooth techniques.

The tails and flaps are great.

Love it; it's like the proto-StarBlazers.

Looks great but I would say that the light grey curb probably shouldn’t be where the cars would drive across to enter the service/gas pumps.

Ok, so the X-Ray is super cool.
