I'm not making a working track but I still wanted to build a nice MOC display for this set and I have some questions. Can I make tracks out of 1x8 smooth pieces that are raised? How many LEGO straight tracks is it long? If I get some LEGO straight tracks can I cover the studded pieces with the smooth pieces without wheel clearance issues? Cheers

Building a display for the Emerald Night

I was just thinking about doing the tracks similar to this. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=403694 -
I need some suggestions folks. I have under 20k pieces with almost all being SW sets; I can see moving into the modular houses, but not castles/prince of persia/what not. I don't have and base plates or foilage (a shrubbery!!!) so there is nothing too cumbersome. I recently picked up some of those Ikea Glis boxes and my problem is the dividers are too fiddly and loose. If I had them in my car and hit a bum they'd ride up and I'd get mixed parts; heck, I even had that happen with the opening and closing of them. I've been looking at the Plano cases on Amazon and wanted to know how they fared. Do the dividers ride up with jostling and bumps? If so, what are some alternatives? Any with fixed dividers? PS> I'm in the US.

Anyone else just have a accumulating pile of bricks?

Find a model on Brickshelf you like and try to copy it. More specifically, if its a house try mimicking some of the details and techniques from the Modular buildings. Then apply them to your MOC. -

When I only had a couple of sets I usually broke them down right away to build MOCs, but now that I have more the ships I really like usually stay together (Tantive and Gunship spring to mind). Other than that I mix the pieces with my others, although they are semi-organized. While still in my dark ages I had built a really long shelf in my bedroom, once I started buying sets I foolishly thought it long enough to hold all my SW ships. :D

It looks great. I dig the grill. How about a photo of how you joined all that up.
-
Here the latest thing I'm working on. I can't decide if I want to keep it a walker or make it a tank. The legs don't match the rest of it so they're temporary.
-
It looks really good, but comparing it to the photo I think it needs to be a little taller.
-
I made more changes to the model as a whole including legs I'm pretty happy with, revised arms/cannons, new hips/codpiece, new back mechanism, and a red racing stripe.

Considering I just bought both the Tie Adv and ATST, having found good prices on them, I have to disagree about them, and the Tantive, being obscure and here is why. The Tantive is THE ship that opened the main trilogy so its cemented in my mind, and I have to say, my minifg one is still together and has resisted the scavenging for bricks that most of my other models have suffered. The Tie Adv, however briefly featured was the ship taking out XWings down in the trenches. The ATST...Ewoks, two tree trunks, and squish. Need I say more. :D

Well I DID stick a Hoth rebel in there.

I completely missed the scifi section or I would have posted there. What if we call this a Stanley Kubrick AT-AT.
-
The only PF thing I have is the light up brick from 6751. The spacing is really tight it so I hadn't planned on.
-
However clever the original Technic action is, I think part of the redesign would have to include a long studless bar to support the wings. I think it needs a new Technic system.
-
Fixed, luckily on my older set I can just flip the pieces around.
-
On my previous model, because the rubber band is on one side the wings lean towards the rubber band side. Maybe having the rubberband on bot sides of the wing solves this issue. That or they didn't feel like including those black ball-pins anymore.

Here are some detail shots of the new nose. There are a lot of hidden structural elements. Ditching the bomb compartment gave the correct amount of space needed to use the stand from the Darth Vader's UCS Tie Fighter.
-
That would be cool, Imagine an all-chrome model.
-
I think the V19's method of moving the tail, through a reducing gear to unfold the wings, combined with moving the landing gear is great. Using the "shocks" to slow the movement its a great extra touch. OTOH now that i look at it, that 7659 Imperial Landing Craft is just as cool.

I hadn't looked at these modular buildings until now, and I have to say I like them. They remind me of the big MOCs that get me excited about Legos. Can you guys help me out by listing the models in this series, and how do you know when they are going to be discontinued to decide which order to purchase them? Cheers

Its not nearly as cool as the UCS version posted. This is my first MOC, and I knocked it out this evening. Its based on the official model.

I posted a hello in the SW sections. As this is the proper place to do it... I've recently come out of my dark ages after many many years, I was into the Space System, 70s/80s Expert Builders, and the yellow Castle models (before the walls became single pieces). I'm now into the SW sets and plan on getting some Technics as well. Cheers
