Do you have a battery tester to check that those alkalines are actually good? 10 minutes seem kind of short for good new batteries. The easy thing is to use rechargeable NiMH AAA batteries. I get one to two hours out of them running at train shows. If you have access a 3D printer, you can make an adapter to use 9V style Li-Ion batteries with the PU hub.

LEGO Mindstorms to be discontinued
dr_spock replied to Maaboo the Witch's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks. I had to come up with something for Halloween themed Adult Night at the LEGO Discover Centre. Weirdly, my EV3 touchless candy machine locked up after one of the guests played with it. I guess it couldn't go on with the LEGO discontinuation. Let's continue the old computer discussion in this thread: -
Cool. Saved the best bits for last?

Maybe somebody else have patented the reversal plate? It's easy enough to draw one up in CAD and 3D print your own.

Ouch, no sugar or salt or caffeine? But those are basic food groups. How about hot Chinese tea? Some like herbal teas don't have caffeine. They are served plain without sugar or cream or milk.

LEGO Mindstorms to be discontinued

Farewell Mindstorms by dr_spock_888, on Flickr Toastie capacitors seem like a weak point. Lately I have been replacing electrolytic capacitors in my mid-2000 electronics (TVs, power supplies, etc.) and they work again. It's not rocket science but they some times do go boom with a puff of smoke like in my NXT. LEGO NXT Repair? by dr_spock_888, on Flickr -

I think LEGO will go with the one they think will have the greatest "reach". I still have some IBM branded 5.25" floppies and one working 5.25" floppy drive left. -
2023 Friends Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion
dr_spock replied to El Garfio's topic in LEGO Town
Friends is for everyone. It is nice to see the theme evolving and changing over time. Boys have been mentioned in their product description for a while now. Example: Creative gift for kids who love safari animal toys – This LEGO® Friends set can be given as a birthday or special occasion gift for boys and girls who enjoy animal nurture play- 634 replies

I think 10+ wide would allow for more details and room in the passenger car to recreate scenes from Murder on the Orient Express. -

Before you apply anything to your ABS, check that it doesn't contain any chemicals that could have an adverse affect on the ABS. https://kelco.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/abs-chemical-compatibility-guide.pdf I apply silicone lube to my LEGO GBC module mechanisms to kept them running smoothly and from turning out ABS dust. -

What is the best way to display Lego inside a car?
dr_spock replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I used double sided foam tape to attach devices to my dash. They stick really good, maybe a bit too good. They left residue on the dash when I removed it. -
What is the best way to display Lego inside a car?
dr_spock replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You can use Velcro tape if you have concerns about theft. That way you can detach the LEGO and hide in your glove box or trunk depending on the size of your creation. ABS normally doesn't melt in a hot car but PLA will. The custom GPS stand on the left is 3D printed with ABS, the one on the right is printed with PLA. I would be more concerned about UV light yellowing the parts. I have a sunglass holder made with black LEGO pieces in the car. My car came with a rubbery tray on top of the dash. It sits there in the sun and no noticeable colour change on the black pieces. -
What can I expect from official lego store?
dr_spock replied to Ondra's topic in General LEGO Discussion
If you need to pick a perfect undamaged set box, then the store is a better bet than online drop kick shipping. Stores can be more fun if you have kids or part of an RLUG. -
Does anyone buy Lego but not open or sell it?
dr_spock replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Not really. I have sets in same sized box and similiar numbers of bags. Some have crushed stickers and most do not. I have one set where the big giraffe was stuck in the box and I thought it was missing after I shook everything out of the box. It was a tight fit. It seems like box size is a function of the number of pieces. BS=f(n) -
The Chinese ones I ordered from Ebay all measured 7.93mm.

GBC exibitions query.
dr_spock replied to doug72's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The GBC standard is input on the left and output on the right. It is only important if you want your module to function with other people's modules at shows and events. If you're doing your own thing, then it is whatever you chose. It looks ok assuming your "In Box 2" is really the Out Box. -
If you want to be LEGO pure, then I think Powered UP is the most flexible and adaptable. PU colour sensors work too good for keeping trains apart. You can use LEGO servo motors to turn the knob on the 9V train controller or Power Function speed controler. Most of Powered UP motors have position sensing. EV3 Playing Centipede by dr_spock_888, on Flickr Not Powered UP but similar idea.

One simple method is to always start the trains off at their designated known locations. Then the keep track of the sensor inputs. The fun way to automate is invite a bunch of friends over to run the trains and designate one the dispatcher.

[MOC/MOD] June's Cargo Train. (10219 in Friends Style)
dr_spock replied to legolux1973's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Very nice. The good thing with LEGO is you can always learn to make your own with their pieces if momma LEGO doesn't provide. -
Different colors would make it easier to figure which end of the line you have reached and which direction to go back. You have to start the train between the two colors though.
