Action Themes Halloween: Scary Monsters Entries
rodiziorobs replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Ahh...time for a nice relaxing evening at home. I think I'll go grab a snack from the kitchen... Build fits on an 8x8 stud base, with a one-stud overhang on two sides (to attach the hand and the eye). Check out my Flickr page: rodiziorobs- 32 replies

English warship "Revenge" from 1577 in minifigscale 1:50
rodiziorobs replied to maydayartist's topic in Pirate MOCs
Wow. Not only is it impressive from first sight, but I keep going back and appreciating all the little details on each level of the deck, all of the technic pieces embedded in the rigging (and the sheer amount of knot-tying that went into this!) let alone the incredible building techniques that everyone else has mentioned to achieve the curved look of the hull. This is absolutely astounding. -
LEGO Cuusoo projects of interest
rodiziorobs replied to Teessider's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I love the TYCO double-anti-stud piece, and the fact that it is half a brick tall. The quality of plastic is also pretty much on par with LEGO (the same cannot be said for MB, which is why I don't allow any) -

Although I suppose he isn't a monster, I thought this Syndrome brick mosaic avatar might be a good counter to my regular Mr. Incredible avatar. Enjoy! Syndrome: Mr. Incredible (regular avatar)- 41 replies

What do you do with your sets/MOC once you've built them?
rodiziorobs replied to hellopike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Anything I build-official sets or MOCs-only lasts until a time when I know I'll have time to dissemble it all at once-I hate having to spend two sessions dismantling and sorting. For example, I have half of a Sopwith Camel right now that I am kicking myself over for not just staying up an extra half-hour and taking completely apart. With MOCs, they also have to stay together long enough for me to get pictures. Before my dark ages, that never happened (because I didn't have a camera) but now that's more important. I have always, even since I was a child, considered that a set was only as good as its parts, because no matter how good a model was, I always wanted to see what I could make on my own. -
Action Themes Halloween: Creature's Lair

...my thoughts exactly. I've been trying to get something put together for the Technic contest, but I'm still stuck in Camper mode. -
There was an entry in the Pimp My Camper contest that used them as airplane wings, #108 by bsparks.

I'm intrigued by the boogie board piece in the lifeguard set-it looks like the same mould as the lifeboat on the upcoming Maersk ship, but I don't think I have seen it in any set currently released...is it a completely new piece?

Contest Contest: Pimp My Camper! Discussion Thread
rodiziorobs replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Hey, no problem for me. Like I said, its my own fault for not signing up months ago when I had the chance. I totally understand the need for fairness, otherwise a fun contest like this becomes cheap when someone ruins it for everyone by cheating. Now I'll just watch the voting as an observer--besides, I still would have found it impossible to narrow down my votes among such great entries. Vote or no vote, thanks for the awesome contest! -

Does the restriction blocking members who joined after the contest start date also apply to contest participants? I didn't create a membership until September (so I could enter the contest), even though I have been following EB for a number of months now. I get it if that means I shouldn't vote (my fault for being slow to act!), I just want to know. Thanks! -
I kind of hope not, but mostly because we never got any sets from EMH, so getting sets from the Avengers Assemble cartoon would be like getting The Lone Ranger instead of the Modular Western Town on CUUSOO.

[TRIPLE] Technic Triple Build Contest Information
rodiziorobs replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It seems like there have been an awful lot of questions, so I hate to add one more, but here goes: We can include a video-presumably so we can show off the functions-but is there a time limit? Also, is there a restriction on video edits (cuts, transitions, voice-over, etc)? I'm not thinking of anything extravagant (I understand that the spirit of the competition is to show off our building skills, not our video editing skills), but I wanted to be on the safe side. I guess that's two more. Thanks in advance! -

Me too, but only because I don't think I can narrow it down any further than that, there are so many great entries! -
I have never bought one of the modulars (mostly because the best ones were released during my dark ages, so I haven't been able to pick them up at a decent price; the latest ones simply haven't piqued my interest enough), but I will definitely have to pick this one up. Possibly more than one, if I can afford it.

I'm fairly new, I joined last month for the VW Camper building contest, although I have been an observer on the site for a few months. I emerged from my Dark Ages nearly three years ago, and am just now starting to take my LEGO hobby public (I guess there is still a big stigma about playing with toys as a grown-up). My favorite theme is and always has been Castle, although I also like Pirates and Superheroes. Above all, I prefer MOCs to official sets, so when I buy LEGO it is almost always for parts. I am fascinated by MOCers who can build creatures and steampunk; I am getting better but it doesn't come easily to me. Glad to be here, and that the atmosphere here is overwhelmingly friendly! EB seems to have a real community spirit. Even in the comments for the contest, everyone has been very positive, so thank you all for that, I look forward to contributing!

REVIEW: 21018 United Nations Headquarters

You got me there, I hadn't thought of that. I guess perhaps the lever was the best option -
REVIEW: 21018 United Nations Headquarters
rodiziorobs replied to Clone OPatra's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I second that. It wasn't until I read the review that I understood that is what they were supposed to be (I've never been to NY nor taken an interest in the UN). If they wanted to reproduce just the flagpole look, they could have used the screwdriver piece (in light bley or something), although then I suppose they would have needed to run hollow studs all along the baseplate. The screwdriver would have given the poles a leaner profile and taken away the bulky base. Not to mention that if I were to display this, I would have to meticulously align all of those levers not only upright, but with their bases all turned exactly the same, as well. Sheesh. On the other hand, I think the half-plate offset in the walls captures the curved look about as well as anything, and looks like it makes the actual building process more interesting. I might consider picking this set up for the parts. Good review, thanks! -
Contest Contest: Pimp My Camper! Entry Thread
rodiziorobs replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Here is what will probably be my last entry (seeing as the deadline is almost upon us!), which was also my submission to the fbtb contest. That's no moon...it's a VW Camper Van! er, space station... I felt a great disturbance in the force, as if millions of Hippie Minifigures suddenly cried out in terror... An analysis of the plans provided by Princess Leia has demonstrated a weakness in the battle station... Using two elastics from 7291 on the 'teeth' of the Death Star, I attached the van piece assembly around some 1x1 round plates and the other to a base so the laser piece would balance on the outside. rodiziorobs on Flickr -

What on earth kind of camper van is that? Oh, it's not on the earth at all, it's the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicamper! Four mighty turbines keep the Helicamper in the air, with two flight decks and control center: Complete with jet hangar and additional area below: Compare to these images, via Google: flight deck and jet hangar See more photos of the Helicamper on my Flickr: rodiziorobs -

Medieval Market VWillage (part II) My latest entries are based off of what is arguably LEGO's best Castle-themed set ever, the Medieval Market Village (#10193), although in this case, it is a VWillage, as the buildings have been re-created as VW Camper Vans! The lower level (blacksmith's shop) is equipped with a smelter, ore, and a hammer, which turns along with the water wheel. Like in the blue VWillage van, there are patterned windowpanes (but no shutters, sorry ). Seen here with Part I, a tree, table, market stall, and hay cart to complete the VWillage scene. Compare to the original set on Brickset (...seriously, those birds are going to break through the roof) rodiziorobs on Flickr -

My latest offering, from the world of nature: a humongous monster from the deep, the Giant SqVWid (Architeuthis Vedubvanicus)! There is nothing mini about this camper van... Watch out for that beak! Partially inspired by carlmerriam's Vammoth entry See more: rodiziorobs on Flickr
