How do the magnets connect? And will they work through the thickness of a plate and a tile? Steve
  4. Thanks for all the help. Here is the almost final product: Vampire Fighter I will have to pose the figures better, but it seems to be working well. Steve
  5. Something with little sections of walls that can connect into a larger castle like the old classic-castle stuff... Something like the Kingdoms line up too... Forestmen would be nice as well... But I'd really like a castle that didn't look exactly like the last three that were made... And a priest figure... And vikings... And peasants... And a middle eastern themed castle... And... And... And... Steve

    Čerge (Gypsy Caravan)

Great work. I am going to be stealing that design for inclusion in my layouts. Steve
  9. OK, since I got help on the back and forth movement, I have another need for help. I want to make a MOC where it looks like one figure is chasing another around in a circle. The space is pretty small (ideally only 4 studs wide and maybe 10 long). Any suggestions on how to have two figures chasing each other? Steve
  10. How big are they when put sideways? That is to ask, how long are they? I'm trying to figure out how many I need, but don't have any to measure with. Steve
  11. Well I got it to work. Once I get my wife's iPhone, maybe I'll share a video of what I was doing. Thanks again for the help. I can feel my horizons expanding as I dabble in technic... Steve
  12. Oh, okay. I see how it would work now. Thanks for the help. I think I've got just the place for it... well have the idea of the place for it. I haven't built that part yet... Now I just need to buy some of that chain... Steve
  13. Thanks. If I can't make it work for the vampire castle, I might be able to use it in my desert... Steve
  14. Wow, those both look kind of complicated... and tall... I am not sure I can swing those in the existing layout. I will have to play with them a bit. Thanks for the help. The GBC is pretty cool. Playing with GBC is really what got me into trying to add movement to my MOCs. Steve
  15. OK, I am pretty dumb when it comes to technic. Can you show me some pictures of how to do it? Not necessarily the hiding it, but the actual track part. This is the castle layout I'm working on. I want to add some moving elements. With help from that last post I did here, I've got a vampire fighting the vampire hunter on the front wall. I'd like to set up something where the mad scientist chases the monster around another wall segment. I'm also planning to add a windmill with turning tines, but I think I can figure that out myself... If you have any other thoughts on what I could add, I'd welcome them. Steve
  16. Thanks. Now I just have to figure out how to fit all that in a 4 stud wide wall and the motor in an 8x8 tower... Steve
  17. Finally got the layout to a show (Brickslopes in Utah). Here is how it looks with all the detail and landscaping and structures in place: From the other side: And just a few of my little easter-egg details: Steve
  18. I took a bunch of photos of the houses, in case the houses get damaged in transit to the convention, here is the gallery, if you want to see them closer up. Steve
  19. Thanks. I just need to get a proper tail or two for the smaller ones... If you mean off to the left, in this picture, I agree with you. It is, however, the result of my LUGs display standard. The green is actually just another theme's layout that just happens to be displayed next to mine. Thanks. I've been playing Lego for over 30 years, but am nowhere near a master builder... Ask away with your questions, I'll be happy to answer if I can. The red turban comes from an Orient Expedition set. I think the Elephant Caravan, but don't feel like checking to be sure tonight. Thanks. I really cannot take too much credit. I've copied a lot of designs I liked from other people and just modified them to suit my parts. I've used Kings Quest 6 for inspiration on a couple of them and Age of Empires for others. Steve

    Miniland Comicon

Two years ago, my LUG (Utah LUG) did a display at the Salt Lake ComicCon. At the last minute, I threw together a little (only 2 baseplates) miniland version of the event. ll the cosplayers liked seeing the miniland versions of themselves. The following year, I expanded it to 18 baseplates, with about 100 figures and created my own scavenger hunt, where I tried to get pictures of as many cosplayers and their counterparts as I could. Recently, after playing the Lego LotR and Marvel games, I've been inspired to create more figures and am working to expand it to 36 baseplates. You can see some of the more recent (and some of the old) figures here. And now there is a group shot of all [approximately] 160 of them: The picture is a link... I'd like to hear suggestions (and maybe design suggestions) for some more figures. Steve
  22. My Scooby figures arrived yesterday and were promptly commandeered by my kids. Thanks! Steve

    Wiring a Train Switch

I want to do a train layout where someone can push a button and it will run the train one time around the track and then stop until the button is pushed again. So the public could play with the train during a show. Has anyone does this? And if so, can you explain how I would do it? Steve

    Wiring a Train Switch

We run 9V trains at our displays. Though I also have several of the new ones. Steve
