  1. Hello everybody, I'm working a bit on the interiors of the buildings and I have already finished an office. Image #1 Image #2 And here, for those interested, you can find my new MOCpages page about this creation.

    French flags for your creations!

hm I have looked at your flags in details and I fear you are confused about one thing, you have to keep in mind a flag is not an ensign and this is even more important to remember that for moden times as the country ensigns generally didn't match the country flags. I don't have time for the moment to find you some examples but try typing ensigns and not flags on Wikipedia etc. French ensign for example.

    British Flags for your creations!

The colors of the ensigns were not to determine whether the ships were merchant or military vessels at the time !!! The color of the ensign determined the squadrons of the royal navy, red for the 1st, under command of the highest admiral, then white, then blue. Usually a navy had three squadrons (thus, historically, the ranks : admiral, vice admiral, rear admiral) The distinction between military (white ensign), merchant (red ensign - chosen because it was the most known overseas) and vessels belonging to the state but not military ships (blue ensign) was made in the 20th century if i'm not mistaken. (edit : I checked, it was in 1864 in fact). Anyway such informations are easy to find. Type red, white or blue ensign on Wikipedia for example. I once studied vexillology, that's very handy to determine the period depicted in a painting (except if the painter made an error).

    French flags for your creations!

The usual ensign of French royal ships was just a plain white flag. During the first republic, an older version of the tricolor flag was introduced in 1794 in the navy, then the current tricolor was introduced until the fall of Napoleon and reintroduced in 1830 under the king Louis-Phlippe (who fought at Valmy alongside the revolution troops in 1792)
  5. Hello, it's me again, I come to show you my dock which has been updated once more. You can now see the water which at the same time makes a display platform.

SET REVIEW is 6267 Lagoon Lockup

That was a superb set. To me it represents in fact a whole little coastal town at a reduced scale. There are the docks, a taverno, the fortified walls (which here are above) and even a prison (just a cell in fact.)
  7. thanks :-) I have added a stair (a flat tile) in front of the large doors, it looks even better !
  8. Here are two new pics, the buildings have doors now.
  9. Thank you all for the nice comments *y* I'll show you the updates on this MOC soon.

    HMS Repentance

It is a very nice ship. I like the stern and the way the bow is made. There are some nice ideas. I'm eager to see the whole ship with sails etc.
  11. @ Mister Phes : I plan to add brown 1x4x8 curved doors, they will fit the building the best for the size, and as they also only exist in brown I don't have the choice for the color, but it will suit the colors of the barrels etc. so I don't think it will look odd. As for the powder magazine it will be a standard city white door (the old model). @Phred : Yes it's my fort (this Brickshelf page is entirely mine) I consider it as finished, it may lack colors but I don't dare alter it and I also like realism. @Hinckley : About the colors it is not on purpose, that's just many of my white bricks are discolored and that is accentuated (or softened for the first pic) by the camera flash. Personally I don't like that. But I don't think the powder magazine is really out of scale. A powder magazine is meant to be solid and not high and its size is proportionnal to the other building which if it was a real building and not lego world scale would be at least say 7 windows long. But I can understand your comment and it could be nice to have only high buildings designed like the supplies office. In fact we have to take it like an arsenal more than a harbor.
  12. I'll take new photos when I get some new parts (doors notably). As for the backside there's not much to see, it's made of red bricks (because i don't have enough white bricks) and the buildings are empty.
  13. Thank you all for the positive comments :-) The new building is based on Rochefort's rope factory so I guess it really suits the period very well. I'm pleased with it, it took me two days (not full time) to design, with the windows etc. As for adding a town behind it's out of the question as this dock serves as a background for my frigate and is meant to be placed against a wall on a furniture. That's why there are only halves of buildings (and also because it needs less parts this way.) But this is a work in progress and I'll certainely add some new things. Some more photos (on these ones the camera flash makes my bricks less white than they really are but that is still ugly) : dock gallery (may not be viewable yet)
  14. This dock, originally conceived as a background for my frigate is now becoming bigger and bigger. I now name it

    help needed

For the moment I'll just build a new building for my dock, which will be modified, this new building will be inspired by this rope factory and could serve to study the design. I'll see later if I build something bigger. The more I think the more I realise I need large amounts of parts. There will be minfigs around in any case.
