LOTR & The Hobbit 2013 Set Discussion

I completely agree. Pj has managed to make a giant mess, which is not even cgi, and TLG is dealing with a very niche market. I feel like if not LoTR third wave is made, or at,least a very descent one, and the hobbit sets continue to be merely acceptable, TLG could be losing some customers.

I am sure the designers are all bound by non disclosure agreements. They would be the least likely to reveal anything. You are better off finding someone in accounting or someone working in a factory where they are producing the sets.

Yeah I forgot about him but I,don't recall anyone being referred to specifically that were chasing the hobbits to the ferry. And yes the witch king is from angmar but some people refer to him as angmar.

Actually it was Tolkien who made the witch king important. Angmar as he is referred to was the strongest and was who brought the nine nazgul together. There is a great deal written about him and his history while the other 8 are never specifically identified from one another.

Yeah I was checking but they didn't even have it up for early purchase. I was putting the sets on my Xmas wish list to keep from getting things I don't need.

Any idea why amazon is not selling The lake town set. It is only being sold by third parties.

I think you also have to consider who is buying these different lines. TLoR is drawing in a bit different crowd than those who typically buy Star Wars and city sets, let alone friends sets. A company often produces a product targeted at a certain market that they already know is not going to compete with their more popular ones. So you cannot always make a direct comparison because different products are sometimes produced for different reasons. TLG is trying to broaden their audience and lines like TLoR helps to do that. Yes they may not be wildly profitable, but if they bring in new buyers then its worth the effort. The hardest part of business no matter what you are selling is getting new customers. Typically a company's buyers are 85% repeat customers as people tend to stick with what they know. Monster fighters brought me out of the dark ages. And even though I grew up playing Star Wars almost my entire childhood lego Star Wars never was that interesting to me. I do buy, some sets from, the, original three but I also buy from, many other lines as well. So my point is you cannot always evaluate a product solely based on its sales figures. As long as you are not losing money a product though not wildly popular can help to round out your selection and help to diversify your clientele. Trust me lego hasn't become the 2nd largest toy company solely by selling three or four lines.

No but by then there were countless harry potter sets. And there is the fact the hobbit lego game is coming out before the third movie. Plus there are still plenty of sets to be made. The point about Warner bros is they don't usually leave any bit,of content uncovered. They like the suck the life out of it as much as they can. So I find it hard to believe that even if the lego line is underperforming, which I don't believe, they would walk away with so much still on the table. In the case of Harry potter, more books and movies can be made. As for TLoR, I don't even think Jackson could eek out, make up. enough material to make another movie. So when this is done its done.

What about the idea of a hobbit/LoTR combined wave in2015? I could see Jackson ending the hobbit series with a direct tie in to TLoR. And you know Warner bros. will eventually put out a blu ray collection of the two series. And maybe a lego hobbit/LoTR complete game. Just look at how many harry potter movie collections Warner bros put, out.

    Future The Hobbit Sets?

There is a difference. There are lego axes but you won't find one named Lizzy Borden or scalping axe. And you also have to remember that this is a licensed line, so lego is not the only one to get the final say so. And while Warner bros. may not care about depicting fighting in a toy, killing is a bit different. I know some here would fail to see the difference.

There is also the fact these swords have very violent pasts that TLG may not want to highlight.

People have no idea how TLoR series is doing. It's all based on rumors and hearsay. Some stored have complained of slow sales and that has been turned in the whole line not doing well. The giant hole in that theory is the Internet. A line like TLoR geared more toward adults,is,going to see sales at a,higher rate than the traditional toy stores. The vast majority of my lego purchases happen, online and I know of many people who shop much the same way. So since lego does not release sale figures all talk of performance is pure guess work.

Let the hand wringing begin! So lego decides to advertise a video game for the line they are producing rather that letting people know about another line's third wave, truly horrible. I only say this in anticipation of the endless posts that are sure to follow that will never prove or disprove anything. But that won't keep the same people repeating the same things over and over again as if that will make it true. Sorry to rant but some times I feel I've walked into gobblers knob and its ground hogs day after reading these posts.

    Ideas For Future Friends Sets

Yeah I don't think most people let alone girls think of hospitals and helipads. The hospital set like most city sets is,rather dull and very vehicle oriented. And the city lego line is one of the most sterotypical that lego makes. Most of the good lego friend sets have nothing to do with shopping but apparently that is all some people see. Doesn't take a genius to see that girls would like doctors and patients and the like with a hospital, or you could just stick with your outdated stereotypes.

Is the Ent in Orthanc Supposed to be Treebeard?

I think lego didn't label the ent as treebeard because they don't plan on making any more. He looks similar enough that you could call him treebeard or just use him as a generic ent. And I wouldn't use the movie I would use the lego game as the basis of comparison.

LOTR & The Hobbit 2013 Set Discussion

Yeah I've been on one wiki to rule them all a good deal lately. I think that is the source of the height, but obviously it belonged to someone else. I checked and found the quote you referred to. The Tolkien gateway is the other source I've been reading. I'm not really sure which one is better. I retread the hobbit a few months back and now retreading TLoR . Which I then on planning on reading the silmarillion for the first time. I feel like,I have middle earth oozing out my ears. I love the mini figs with the new sets but still unsure about the sets. I'm holding judgement until I can see the actual sets and not just a pic of the box. But the whole thing about the hobbit is its really about the characters and not so much about the locations. The lonely mountain is really the only iconic place in the book, other than hobbiton and rivendale. Add that plus the ruins featured in the movies and there really is not much TLG can have sets of other than grey bricks.

Gandalf 5'6", I stand (shorter) corrected.

LOTR & The Hobbit 2013 Set Discussion

No I'm saying its all subjective. The scene could be beorn standing on a set of stairs and appearing taller in a close up. But that doesn't mean that they are saying he is physically taller, they could be implying other meaning. So they only way to really judge the, would be to see them standing next to each other from head to toe. Otherwise it could really mean a variety of things (read:movie making).

LOTR & The Hobbit 2013 Set Discussion

Yeah but that can be very deceiving. Gandalf according to Tolkien is 6'4", though I don't think the actor is that tall. So if your perception is a tall gandalf then you see beorn being much taller when in fact the actors could be similar heights. A little movie magic, the right camera angle, someone standing on something or in a hole and you have a scene. You see this all the time in Tom cruise movies who is barely over 5 ft tall yet never appears that short next to other actors.

Um no. I'm sure they have had a list for a very long time and the sets if not already done are close to being so. It does take time to design, get approval, finalize, build new molds if needed and manufacture these sets. It's not like they are just whipping them out.

I find lego employees in general rather useless, though some are really great.. Sure they can point out a set on the shelves, but ask them a question beyond that and you often get a blank stare. And frankly employees of a store are always going to be the last ones to know. It's not like TLG is sending them memos. Likely if they have heard it its just another ill conceived rumor.

LOTR & The Hobbit 2013 Set Discussion

Never knew elves were so controversial. Of course they wore all types of armor, but that doesn't mean the run around the forests wearing full plate. We have no idea how the, elves end up at dol guldur, maybe they were not expecting to have to battle. But hey guess what there will still be a battle of the five armies and I'm sure at least one elf will show up in plate armor. Funny how a single book called the hobbit gets turned into 3 movies yet you rarely ever hear about poor bilbo. I think people should consider themselves lucky to be getting additional movie thus wave at all. Think what sets we would have ended up with if only two had been made. It's even more amazing since a fight at gol guldur is barely mentioned in Tolkiens work, let alone the hobbit. Yes I know the sets are based on the movie, but without the amazing world Tolkien created none of this would be possible.
