Favorite movie: Evil Dead 2 Least favorite movie: Manos: Hands of Fate (Even Mystery Science Theatre 3000 couldn't make this one entertaining)

I wouldn't want to live in one, but I'd sure love to visit a lot of the Pirate and Castle sets from years past. *y*

I can't really think of a song that reminds me of Lego, though I have experienced that phenomenon with other things (e.g. the Genesis song Driving the Last Spike strongly calls to my mind the old NES game Dragon Warrior 4).

For me it's just Green Grocer and some impulse sets. I still need to catch up on sets from last year.

Fwiw I don't see the problem with reviving pic threads... actually I rather like it, as I probably would have never seen this thread otherwise. As far as my own collection, I'm rebuilding right now, but here's what it looked like last summer.

Nice, but why must they tease us with the Pirate at the end!? :-)
-
I'd be interested to hear from a mod or admin what the preference would be. If you want to post on a topic like this, is it a better to revive an old thread, or to start a redundant one?

Last summer a local town was having a community-wide yard sale, and I picked up over 10,000 Lego pieces for about $45.

Is the new Castle line making old ones obsolete?
Paradosis replied to concreteasflesh's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I think classic castle will always have a special place in my heart, because those are the sets I grew up loving. I don't think newer castle sets could put a dent in my enjoyment of Black Falcon's Fortress or Black Monarch's Castle. Having said that, I understand what you're saying, and I think it may effect others. One reason for classic castle's popularity--even among those who didn't grow up with it--was that the modern crop of castle sets were unsatisfactory. But if that has changed, and the new castle lines are now able to hold their own against sets of the past, then there's less reason (for some, anyway) to go chasing after 20 year old sets on Ebay or Bricklink. I don't think things would change very quickly community-wide, but eventually "all good things must come to an end". -
Thanks for posting those pics! Now I'll definitely have to buy this set.

Though I wouldn't say that the set is bad, I'm not a huge fan either. I've had a few problems with the set, such as the red knobs not staying on, and the snakes jamming up. But mainly I just didn't enjoy putting the set together as much as I expected.

What will happen when star wars lego is gone forever?
Paradosis replied to General Zen's topic in LEGO Star Wars
While I'm a trekker, and love the possibilities of Lego ships and whatnot, I doubt Lego could get it done properly. It seems like no one else has. Whether it's video games, or tv series, or movies, it seems like the last 10 years are filled with missteps in the Trek universe. Maybe the upcoming movie will get us back on track, but I doubt it. -
What got you back into lego after your "Dark Ages"?
Paradosis replied to Joey Lock's topic in Community
I went into my first dark ages when I was about thirteen, and came out of them about ten years later. As to what rescued me from the darkness, there were probably a lot of different factors involved. My entering into the dark ages was not my choice (my mom said I was too old for Lego), so in part turning back to Lego was about exercizing the freedom to do whatever I wanted. Another factor was just plain old nostalgia... I have lots of great memories of playing with Lego when I was younger. Another factor is just that I wanted a new hobby at the time, and when I thought back over things I'd enjoyed in the past, Lego was near the top of the list. Unfortunately I have lapsed a couple times and entered short dark ages over the past few years... but I always come back to the brick within a few months.
