I don't have many posts here (yet), but fwiw I've always avoided religious discussions on non-religious boards, in spite of the fact that theology and Christian history are two things I find very interesting. When I want to discuss religion, I just go to a religious forum. I think that I can understand part of the appeal of wanting a religious or political part of a board like this. You have a link with others through the enjoyment of LEGO, so you feel some type of kinship; from there, it's natural to be curious about what the people on the forum think of other subjects. It sort of fills out their personality, so you get a better perpsective about them, and maybe the LEGO building community in general. Still, like I said, I personally don't really delve into those type of subjects unless the forum was created for that type of discussion.

Sweet! It's awesome how much detail each building has.

We'll be getting the house for Christmas this year. My wife is really looking forward to it.

Sweet! Makes me want to see a full-length movie with lego. With a good story line, something using the old school pirate or castle themes would rock.

I plan on buying one as soon as I get income tax return back, and if it's as good as people are saying I'll get another one later this year and keep it sealed. I would also love to see more sets like this.

Though this is only anecdotal, I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. I've also noticed many of the problems that people have mentioned. Just from purchases this year, the slopes on my creator house (4956) have different textures, I had two pieces missing (actually they were exchanged for two similar pieces) in a fire station (7945), and the pieces just seem less able to maintain a firm grasp on other bricks.

My favorite Lego set of all time. *y*

I voted 3/10 (would have voted 5/10 if that option was available). The only set I really disliked was the last one; the rest didn't do much for me either way.

I wouldn't have minded if it wasn't a joke. I was sort of hoping a couple years ago that they'd be able to do a pirate set with Pirates of the Caribbean, but generally I couldn't care less about the licensed sets. I've probably spent $3000 on Lego over the last 2 years (thanks to tax returns!), and I think I've bought about 2 liscensed sets in that time period, and only those 2 because my wife likes Harry Potter stuff so I bought the sets for her. I think it'd be a step in the right direction, in one way, if Lego were to take 10 years off all the licensed stuff, and just focus on their main stuff. Back in the late 80's/early 90's everyone seemed to be happy with Space/town/pirate/castle/train, it'd be nice to see that type of focus again. I do understand, though, that from a business point of view it's just not possible, that the license merchandise is just too valuable. I guess I'm just saying that I wouldn't mind a focus on 4 or 5 really good, non-licensed themes.

Here are some pictures of a pirate ship I built yesterday. This is the first MOC I've posted on a forum. :) (I can't seem to post the pics, it says that "dynamic pages in the tags are not allowed"... ? )

I hope you will forgive me for posting on this thread so long after it ended, but I just got the set yesterday. I figured saying something here was better than starting a whole new thread. I should note up front that, while I had airplanes when I was younger, this is my first actual airport set, so my thoughts are not based on comparisons with previous airports, but only on the contents of this particular set. Overall, I really like this set. I think it could have been improved significantly for a small cost, but I still like what they do have. The only complaints that I have are minor ones. A larger base for the building would have been nice, as it is very cramped in certain areas (e.g., when you walk through the revolving door you almost run into the counter). I also don't like the holes around the revolving door, or the open waiting areas on top of the roof. Had they built a slightly more solidified entrance, and used the clear pieces to expand the airport width (moving the seats down to the ground floor), I think it would have been a bit better. I also found the stairs to be very unstable, and more than once the entire area collapsed on me under very minimal stress. And as a lot of others have said, a couple baseplates to land on, not to mention some extra minifigs, would have been nice. On the other hand, there is a lot that I liked about this set. I like the overall look of the airport, and the way that they tried to incorporate a lot of stuff that you'd actually have at an airport (gate, luggage check, luggage revolving thing, vehicle for transporting items, lots of seating, etc). I also liked the plane, despite some probably justifiable critiques of it. I really don't consider the "<insert that tiresome argument>" pieces to be a problem here, though I can understand the want for more foundational pieces. As far as the large pieces go, though, I remember having much larger window pieces for the late 80's and early 90's space sets (like 6988 and 6953), and I didn't mind them back then. And despite my complaints above, the basic foundation that this airport provides is a really good one to build upon, so that with some minor alterations and expansion this could be a really large, nice-looking set. As to whether it is worth $85, I don't know. My not having had an airport set might play into my thoughts, but in the end I do think it is worth the price, especially considering the potential it has for nice MOC's. Yes, it doesn't have a lot of basic bricks, but IMO many sets today have too many basic bricks (e.g., the larger Star Wars sets), so in the end I think it balances out. I'd give this set a 7.5 out of 10.

I got the new 7894 Airport last night. A few minor things bothered me, but overall I liked the set.

Anyone who hates Bionicle at first sight...
Paradosis replied to Zarkan's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Still don't like Bionicle, sorry ;-) -
I'm listening to the Skepticality Podcast on my computer.

Cool! Thanks :-) I remember this from last year, though all I did was leave an arrrr on a website thread. I really liked some of the videos they've done, like .

Thanks, that really made me smile :-)

A sad loss. :-/

What I would give to have such a place! :)

I also am glad to see this. First, as was already said, the more precise we can have our descriptions and definitions, the better. Better to do things now, and then move foreward. And second, it shows what science is really about. Science is not about set-in-stone truth, but about things we accept provisionally as true, but which we are open to being falsified eventually. This type of thing shows that science is at work, and not stagnant, or locked-down in preconceived notions. However, I wouldn't count on the older textbooks being changed. I'm sure the new ones will have the change(s) within a few years, but errors are nothing new in textbooks, and the teacher will probably just point out that the textbook is wrong in this instance, and inform the students of the latest decision.

I voted for 6382 Fire Station, and I see a number of others voted the same. I like the one released after it as well, but for some reason I just like the more classic look of the older one.
-
I voted on 6380. I think at some point I might have gotten the first hospital at a yard sale as part of a box of Lego, but 6380 is the only one that I can remember enjoying, fitting in with a town scene, etc.

To be honest, I was unhappy with that ship as well, so it only got halfway completed. I'm going to get some more of certain types of bricks before I try another one, so that I can make it less blocky than I've been doing. Fwiw, here are some pics of my unfinished Steelers ship... Though I'm not sure how I would have worked things out once the masts/sails/etc. were up, the ship was designed to have the majority of the main deck removable, so that you could access the lower deck where the canons were. In the last pic, the red box outlines the part that was removable, which didn't actually have any attachment to anything underneath, but was entirely resting on the smooth/studless plates. The thing keeping it in place would have been the weight from the mast/sails, the door to the captain's cabin (which sticks out ever so slightly), and the fancy-pants ornamentation on the sides above the middle canon.

Yeah, I'll go vote, I guess it was pretty nit-picky of me not to :-)

Mine is Forestmen, so I couldn't vote. :)
