Awesome, man. Very funny. Your use of the palm tree leaves is quite creative.

just where have those figs pack gone?????
Berry Syedow replied to kenji's topic in General LEGO Discussion
OK, we have a misunderstanding here. :-P What I'm saying is that the consumer no longer has the option to buy a mini-fig pack instead of a set if he does not like the set or only desires to have a few more mini-figs for whatever reason. In the end TLC makes more from guy Joe buying a set rather than a fig pack. -

Pardon? Who said anything about spending 600 to 700 euro on an army? I said the only way to acquire an army is to buy sets. Again, I typed "people." There are some castle fanatics that spend way too much money on mini-fig armies, though 600 to 700 euro seems a little extreme. ;-) -
Sorry I wasn't clear enough. Only extend 2/3 of the main deck. You might even want to replace the present plate with a smaller one so the stair-case has more room to breath. It would be a lot easier to explain if I knew the schematics of the Prometheus. :-P I meant no offense. I am not familiar with the reasoning of naming ships. I once role-played a pirate themed rpg (I still do very occasionally) and usually when the ship was renamed it would fit in with the theme of the ship. For instance I renamed my sloop the Black Barracuda and painted it white. :-D However that wasn't exactly intentional because I liked the name and wanted to paint one of my ships white. Sloops are the smallest so it is the most affordable to paint, and at the time it was the only sloop I owned.

Try lining the main mast up with the second black flag and extending the main deck to put the aft mast flush against helm's plate. I would then build a stair-case on one side of the aft mast leading up to the helm and another one to the captain's quarters. Also, why did you decide to rename your ship the Prometheus? I can see how the flags fit in, but other than that I'm baffled.

Not anymore, thankfully. The Battle at the Pass is available on SAH for a mere 40 USD. It contains ten mini-figs and one skeleton. The Army of Vikings with Heavy Artillery Wagon is another awsome set that includes seven mini-figs for only 30 USD. It is a shame that TLC doesn't do that anymore, but it is a smart decision on their part. A lot of people like to collect figures (especially if you're into castle/vikings or pirates), so that means the only way to acquire them in bulk is to buy the sets. Thus adding more dough to the coffers. If sets are well made then it doesn't matter so much. Such is the case of the Viking Line. EDIT: Beat me to the punch, Starwars4J. ;-) -
I bought four 5994 Catapults. I needed the pin joiner part to complete some brick built cannons. Otherwise I would not have bothered. :-P

Much improved! *y* My only suggestion is to try and space the masts out better. They look just a little too squished. By the way, how stable are the diagonal sides of the hull?
-
;-) That idea of the rib cage is ingenious! I would suggest doing it with white slopes for stability purposes, though.

I'd tend to disagree here because I think that mini-figure looks a bit too modern. True, but I consider him a timeless mini-fig and the concept is amusing enough that I can over look that historical inaccuracy. ;-) A bandana would help him blend in more however, if oo7 has one.

Once again, fantastic work. I enjoy the gloomy feeling of the ship (weird, eh?), and the tattered sails compliment the look. The color scheme is right on the money. The ship's inhabitants actually look like individuals. A difficult feat considering this is a crew of skellies. The tweaking is definately paying off. The ship looks a lot "cleaner".
-
The ship is fabulous considering your resources. Joe Vig is a fine choice as a figurehead, and I think it fits the situation, like he did something inconsiderate, being oblivious to his surroundings, and wound up on the bow of a ship! The yard looks a bit short (it may be because of the distorted view...). Nice work overall, can't wait for the sail!

I really like the river runner 2.0, ghoulrealm. The simple snot design makes an excellent boat. Brown is a sparse commodity around my parts, but I might have to also expand upon the river runner. ;-) We shall see!

HISTORIC ACCURACY or FANTASY in LEGO's history lines ???
Berry Syedow replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Fanciful fluff with some historical backbone is just dandy. It’s when the sets are lame that I don’t care for fantasy as much. In conclusion, riding rampaging over-sized elephants with two story-long trunks into battle = Awesomest set of the year (Hannibal, Yeah!) Sticking wheels onto a horse and calling it a jousting tournament = not so awesome… (Where's the historical backbone, huh?) Speaking of which, I've got a fanciful Viking Galley coming up soon, I just need to figure out where to fit the anchor... EDIT: Very true, and in the end, if the set is gingerly designed most people won't care where the inspiration is rooted. Knight's Kingdom and Knights' Kingdom are fine examples of two themes of opposition. Historical fiction vs. Fantasy. Both sub themes suffer from serious suckage however, needless to say. -
Yikes, man, I'm sorry to hear that. Is it possible that you could photograph some of the parts?

If You Were Johnny Thunder...
Berry Syedow replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
The ultimate, handy-dandy, all-purpose object ever invented: Duct Tape! No doubt a knife is of awesome importance in the outback, but what happens when you cut yourself? Hmmm? Do you propose that wrapping one's wound with a piece of cloth and having your girlfriend kiss it (if present) will suffice? I think not. Only the holy healing powers of a strip of duct tape can cure that ailment. A Schrade Navitool you say? I scoff. When a maniacal animal is on the loose the chance of accurately wielding that monstrosity is null. Radios are neat, duct tape radios are neater. That is beside the point. The hunk of metal will never manage a signal. With a few snippets, some wrapping, and a little imagination a duct tape spoon is born unto us. Even more impressive, the spoon will never fall off of your nose! Bwahaha! :-D I declare this thread over. -
supposedly accurate model of KK set 10176

Interesting. I might buy the castle after all. The gray base-plate looks surprisingly better than the official one. -

Umbra and Race for the Mask of Life on UK S@H
Berry Syedow replied to JoeMI6's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Even though I'm not a bionicle fan I'm really happy that TLC made the newer mini-scale bionicle figures articulated. The vehicles look pretty neat too. I don't care for the baseplate. If it helps them make a profit I suppose it is not all that bad. I just don't want those appearing in system sets... *knight* ;-) -
It could very well be that TLC is giving us an inferior product (quality wise) to save money. I've been playing around with a new tan 2x6 plate from 4884 Wild Hunters in comparison to another one from one of the first adventurer sets. The one significant difference is the sticking noise when fused to another gray 2x6 plate. There's a very distinct squeaky sound. When I fuse the newer plate onto the gray one there is almost no sound, and definitely no squeak. I can even rub my fingers against the older tan plate and still hear that distinct squeak. The newer one? No dice. Now this doesn't mean that the newer piece is inferior in quality, but it's safe to say they're not composed of identical ingredients. I also have three Star Wars mini-figs that are cracked (two arms, one torso). The arms aren't so bad because they can be replaced, the torso on the other hand... :-(

Here's some nice close-ups of 10176, found at classic-castle.

Bah, this is why I wish contracts had summaries of their main points. Anyhow, welcome aboard Shakar! I'm sure you'll fit in just fine. Can we expect any mocs from you soon?

Making simple custom sails for SMALL ships
Berry Syedow replied to vahkimetru's topic in Pirate MOCs
The tutorial is nice, but I feel it's too simple to warrent its own thread. Consider elaborating on some of your ideas, such as the insignia design, an' how to go about adding that to your sail. -
In a dramatic turn of events: Some scallywag already drank the wine! An' the real twist... it's been replaced with water! *casually whistles while nearing the pirate guards* Psst, I've got some vintage wine here. Ya can have it fer but a few pieces o' eight. What? No, no, no, I've since learned not to divulge in the evil that is alcoholic beverages. The wine's jest fine. Hah, what chumps... huh? Not real, ye say?! I wasn't tryin' to bamboozle ya! Fer the love o' Moses! Help, vahkimetru! I'm bein' berry-napped! Horrible things are bound to happen!

WORK IN PROGRESS: Imperial Armada Presidio
Berry Syedow replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
Mr. Phes, your latest creation is a nice expansion of the Armada Sentry. It looks like the pirates have it in for the Spanish guards. >:-) The moc does have a quaint TLC style that was so abundant back in the 80's, but now I suppose it would have a flashier background and some horrendous wall piece instead of bricks... :-P Overall, nice work! The only name I could fabricate is Sentries' Outpost. :-P
