Arr, he's the one steerin' the thing! That other guy is actually a guest appearance by Captain Red Beard. :-D I would've made the railing higher, but I practically had *just enough* round pieces to finish the job (something like a skinny round piece ontop a regular round piece would've been good). Thank you guys for the comments!

I'm afraid there isn't a window on the portside. I did take the window's into consideration. They just didn't look very good behind the archway. Luckily there's a lamp to comfort Berry from the darkness. I colored the sails using cheap crayola black water color paint. When the sails were cut out I soaked them in water and then dabbed the black water color paint all over them. I proceeded to smear it all over. Then I dipped my finger into the paint and began flicking it onto the sails. I had to move them sadly, so the water slid off, along with my "creativity". So later after they were dry I sprinkled water over them and redid the process. I was outside so my sails were sitting atop a plastic outdoor table with a criss cross patter you might see in apple pies or baskets, which apparently left a soft pattern in the background. Sheesh, what a mouthfull. :-$ I did the design to practice with water coloring. I believe it has potential for sail patterns and designs. In a way these are prototypes. I was also tiring of the overused white. I've also been messing around with rope, so expect to see some more stuff from me. X-D P.S. I need some sleep. I'll get back to you all in the morning!

The lotus is a quality ship that I've always been rather fond of. The color scheme is alright. Some dark red railing could've helped. The sails are a keeper. They look very rugged, maybe why many people haven't experimented with your technique. Willy, is your ship still assembled?
-
Hehe, yeah, the stern castle is a whee high. ;-) Here's a link showing the staircase more closely: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/SirRupid...op/s4020887.jpg I'm glad you like the sails. They look a bit better in the sun, but over all I'm pleased with 'em.
-
Hmmhmm, the ship looks a little plain. The stern castle's railing doesn't flow very well with the color scheme. (understandable if you lack pieces) The same goes for the sudden appearance of black and the light grey window frame. Otherwise I like it!

I positively love your Flying Dutchman, ghoulrealm! My eyes are bleeding from its glorious beauty! I really hope you can get some more dough to finish the project. The walrus looks good. The head is the weakest part (in my opinion), but there probably isn't much room for improvement. It'll still be a great addition to the viking moc. I struggle a lot with stability over aesthetic. On one hand many "nice looking" creations can be made using unorthodox methods of building. But, I always feel so much more satisfied when I can get a nice look using a stable method. Thus MOCing can be time consuming depending on what I'm doing because I'll try anything under the sun before I do something crazy.

Very reasonable criticisms. I just like people to back up their comments. To say TLC is doomed is a little harsh because of one guy. ;-) (The recent abundance of missing/deformed parts has me worried, though.) *cowboy* (we need it ;-) ) EDIT: Nevermind, the brickster made one!

Try building a "round" hull on a smaller scale. Get a few books about ship hulls (if they exist) or model ships, whatever necessary to educate you! Take a look at some of these of links for inspiration: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=196199 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=28052 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=193609 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1300842 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=70435 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=118133 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=117595 Unconventional use of basic hull: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=79497 Non-pirate related hulls: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=535412 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=140163 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1076752 Dissect the above links to get a basic idea of how you want to attempt the hull. Some moccers utilize SNOT, a technique that may be helpful.

Here's my brick built cannon. Its minor innovation is that it's completely smooth. Two of its components aren't available on the digital designer, so I'm afraid I can't contribute in that aspect. EDIT: Aye, the $1 catapult is a good resource for the middle part. If you're impatient. ;-) Yup, great site for building whatever yer heart desires! I quickly tire from it, however. It takes me long enough in the real world. :-/

Supremely done, once again! I take it that the hairpiece is from the "Indian" subtheme. It's very fitting for the setting. Not to mention that I rarely see mocs utilize it. The parrot and the bunny (especially so) are nice touches.
-
I tried building it without the mast, but it just didn't look right. Also, considering that this is a Castle MOC, a motor and lifejackets wouldn't fit in very well. ;-) Ah, I had the impression that this is a modern tour vessel. Approximately what time period does the ship sail in?

wow, BEST EVER !!! i am very obliged !!! this is my first LEGO web design :-$ :-$ :-$ and for an offical announcement, im back !!! the comic convention was great and my first trip to LEGOLAND was an equal. LEGO had a pretty large booth at the convention i attended, with lots of cool oversized master-builder type constructions. i took lots of photos of both, and will try to post some images in the next few days. we got some awesome photos of wildlife attacking the miniland USA at LEGOLAND. giant birds and dragonflies... pretty funny stuff. reminded me of HG Well's Food of the Gods. - BM Welcome back Brickminer! Your absence was sorely felt throughout EB, especially the LEGO History. ;-) I'm glad you enjoyed your stay, and I look forward to the pictures! (especially the giant birds :-D )

Tex, how can you be so sure? The prevailing logic from other Castle heads is that TLC wasn't sure if the Viking Line would be a hit. That's why we only have two sets this year. Supposedly it takes around six months or more to design sets (correct me if I'm wrong). So we'll just have to hang tight till next year. Then the tears can roll, whether joyful or not... Yeah, I didn't try to read much of that gibberish after kiddies started confusing Star Wars with Pirates... :-P

Yep, I love this baby. There's nothing like a good brick built vessel. I'd start right away with one if I had the pieces. A considerably larger effort is required in these massive undertakings, which is why I always admire them, even if the results are anti-climatic. (A thread not long ago comes to mind when another brick built sea fairing vessel rather under whelmed people.) The sheer detail of the galleon is something to admire alone. Sure, if the moccer had made a huge figless ship that would've been exquisite. The fact that he/she went all the way and accomplished this dauntless task is worthy a medal I daresay! *y* *y* From Mister Syedow!
-
Ah, yes, the great Spanish Galleon! I thought I'd resurrect this beauty for the advantage of other cabin boys around these parts. This is the pinnacle of every pirate's dream! To build the biggest, baddest ship before they die! If'n ye can't, then it's better ye saw one at the very least!

The odds of the same moderator moderating all of the posts containing LEGO sites is slim. You may be right about a change in policy. Every time I did mention a site I tried to keep it discreet. (Except one post where I went into full detail of bricklink, however I did say, "if the moderators would allow me..." So maybe a bit of butt kissing is required? ;-)) And yes, I was just getting comfortable when the carpet was pulled from beneath me! Dreamweb's ships are about the only mocs I can remember seeing over there, though I know there was more! (Or not? :-/ ) A few highlights are a Viking outpost, built by an up an' comer (I can't remember if he was coming out of his dark age. Poor kid, if he was), a huge ghost ship, and a huge Spanish Galleon (let me tell you, that thing is incredible!).

Hulk Smash!

Really? I think I've mentioned Eurobricks, bricklink, and brickset several times and the posts passed moderation. I still fare the boards, posting every now an' then. You're not missing much. ;-) Just a day ago I created a topic discussing "favorite 2006 set of Knights' Kingdom" to see if the moderator wouldn't let me make a thread, and sure enough it was rejected! So infuriating...

Has POTC crossed the line? Should Lego follow?
Berry Syedow replied to SirScottLego's topic in LEGO Pirates
TLC is obsessed with fantasy. I think it's an impossibility for them to avoid incorporating it into the theme now, if they ever get around to reviving it. :-| Very true. Greek and Roman mythology are great role models of that as well. I'd really like for TLC to make a theme based on one of those cultures. All they would need to do is research and apply it to sets. No made up nonsense. It'd be a sure fire hit! -
Interest in a Universal Pirates Story Setting?
Berry Syedow replied to Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn's topic in LEGO Pirates
Absolutely. Pirates are all about fun and anything less is a disservice to the theme. Speaking of POTC, have you seen the sequel yet? How about extravagant plots involving blowing other players up? :-D But yes, we need some meat to go with the potatoes. Another reason why POTC is such a great film! It's not just mindless action, there's a series of interwoven plots behind everything. Yarr, the pirate in me says that four cannons ain't enough! The sloop I'm working on has at least six cannons. X-D Four of them are brick built because my hull is too narrow for the system type. Where do you stand on brick built cannons? -
eh, maybe they paused and thought that it would be one too many liscenses. ;-) I just hope that pirates is relaunched in a few years. If vikings isn't a success then they'd make the perfect successor. I love the viking line however, so I hope they don't stop any time soon.

Excellent ship so far! Huge undertakings like this are far and few between, so it's always a pleasure to view them! I've seen some types of string rigging used before, but it's been difficult finding any pictures on brickshelf. It looks like he did all of that by hand, unless you can preorder the stuff... http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=112101 I noticed the Ig-88 in the background. You aren't a big LEGO Star Wars collector by any chance? ~yarr phes, he already posted the url to download it and it's a rather rudimentary design. :-/

SkaForHire, I like your idea. I can't see a king sending "factions" to get a treasure. If he was British for example, then the imperial army would hunt around for the treasure and then the pirates and adventurers/explorers would learn about what the king is doing and follow suit. We could go even further: An explorer on his deathbed reveals a huge hidden treasure in a far away region. News about this treasure spreads across Europe until the French, Spanish, British, Dutch, etc. are all after it. The pirates also learn about the treasure and some decide to wait till it's discovered and then attack the merchant vessels when they're most vulnerable. Other elite explorers would compete with the other nations to find it first. -
Princesslego's model looks better, while Tculrich's ship is slightly more movie-accurate. Did princess even watch the movie? It showed a close up of the figurehead for crying out loud, and it certainly didn't hold two swords or wear an ugly mask. I agree the sterncastle is too big. Here's an image of Davy Jones Ship. I imagine someone will eventually build a version of it. The only good way to go about it will be in a brick built form. A site that contains some nice shots of other POTC ships. Neither of the ships are proportionally correct. Look at the size of the people compared to the vessel: (I can't say I blame them. LEGO is challenging like that.)
