    The Caribbean Queen

Done some work in the limited time I had during the last days... but she looks like a ship again... She even got arms for the anchors ...don't now how that's called actually : ... but she'll get a working catspan. The new stern - all white and black ... bye bye yellow I welcome all feedback!

    (W.I.P.) HMHV Snake Redux

I like what you did with the parts available to you ... just a suggestion for the masts, since your ship already reminded me of the Baltimore Clippers, why didn't you try something like that ... Put the masts on and and put a plate in between for hinge-parts for the right angle. to stablize is, try to build a small "guardrail" around, something like that: (picture by Phred) Don't know how this "guardrail" is actually called, since I'm a nautic analphabet... I tried the same construction today for the "The Caribbean Queen" and it does work great... but since my handycam makes blurry pictures too, you would only see black So, hope I could help with a constructed feedback

    The Caribbean Queen

Sorry for the double post, but could this masts work? Suggestion needed... I put them on and with a plate for the angle... is it to much? I definitly need the rigging to hold the masts in place... I figured that out allready I welcome any idea how to make this stabil and workable

Meeting of two frigates: Achille and Vesta

Ok, now it's clear - you are a master of PAINT! - I didn't thought you used paint, since it's really great work and looked a lot like photoshop or a simelar programm! But one questions is still in my mind - How did you transport your ships? I'm allways afraid to carry the Ares around - since I fear her masts will colapse on me - but travel with them through the lands seems more challenging.

    HMS Centaur

That's the right spirit. Good luck with HMS Centaur V2.0! Since you got 3 masts on the old one, I presume you'll do the same on the new one? So here is my suggestion for the placements. The space beetween the fore-mast and the main-mast should be 1,5 times the space between the main- and the mizzen-mast. (something I learned from the Admiral, too ) I like the way you made her playable from the inside with the removable cabinwalls! Hope you'll gonna use it in the next version as well, but although I think a bit more curve in the stern would be great! Good luck with the building process!!!

Thanks for all the feedback from all of you! Imitation is still the greatest form of admiration. I really loved the ideas of Blackmoors Alceste, with the lovely railing using the white flowers... The Alceste was the reason for starting this as a sideproject, since we discussed the sailplan of the HMS Monarch and I voted for a gaff rigged ship. I found another mid-section in my local legoshop when I collected my order, so she'll get one soon.

    Southern Cross

It's a nice build, but I bit too long for my taste... The first thing I I thought about was this: But I defenitly would add another deck ... since it looks quite odd with the 3 decks stern. EDIT: The candleholders are great. I really like them!!!

    HMS Ares

I'm still thinking about it, the main mast yards got the extra technic axles for this purpose.. so I guess, yes she will get some... And finally she fits on my bookshelf:

    HMS Ares

Thanks, I guess I find it in every good sorted hardware store - and here is the Ares with her new, and improved ... aehm... ok, shortened masts... I removed 1/3 of of the round bricks - and ok, it's still looking great... you two where right about it. It took nearly 3,5h to rearange the rigging,( ) but hopefully it was the last time for a while.

    HMS Ares

OK OK OK - you two finally got me to do it, I started to shorten them!!! btw - I guess I asked it before, wich glue did you use for the cross-rigging? Since we both live in Germany, I could use the advice, I tried on - a model-glue but it didn't worked...

    HMS Ares

Time for a update: Even if it doesn't look like much change, there was a lot... First of, I used the feedback and shortened the masts. I reduced the length of the thicker part of the masts and put the first plattform to a more acurate hight but I didn't like the results. So I shortend the topmasts and topgallant masts with the axle-connectors instead. I shortend the Mainmast by 7 --- that's maybe 10 % ... I know it should be more, but I like my longer masts. The Mizzen and Foremast are more accuratein hight now, too. I just put them on the mainmast to make it visible: I changed some little details in the platforms, too... and finally got a complete new rigging - (still no cross-rigging). The Spanker will be a bit bigger, than normally thanks to the longer part oft Mizzen-Mast. The masts are fixed with 8 additional lines - 2x3 on the back, 2 at the front. The "Klettertakelage", don't know the english-term, for the part of the rigging which is used for climbing the masts, are fixed to the black rings. the stabilizing is fixed to the red rings. (since there is no cross-rigging, it's hard to tell, so I tell). Ok the picture is bad, from left to right: r b b b b r r r I used that for inspiaration an positioning of the extra lines: And finally I bought some black flags for the gun ports... bye bye blue ones... and changed a bit of the headrails. Which are finished for now, I like them now Ok- the angle is a little bit crappy But It looks much better in reality. The next update will take a while, I need to buy some cloth for the sails first... Feedack and tipps for sailmaking are welcome :)

Meeting of two frigates: Achille and Vesta

It's great to see my two favorite Frigates broadside by broadside, ... and thanks god, they didn't exchange them Nice work with the photoshoping, too... the second one is quite realisitc... the first one is great too, but it would need some working at the waterline, some floating around the hull, I'm not shure how to discribe it, but I guess something like "flow lines"?

    WIP- Mysterious Cities of Gold

It's quite impressive what you created with the limited amount bricks and platetypse in pearl gold! I was a bit sceptical first, but now I can't wait till you finished bricklink-shopping and bring us the next update. I personally like the steps made of the fense-parts more than the ordinary jumperplates-steps.

    The Lighthouse

Nice creation, even my first thought about it, was that it looked like an old oilrig with a house attached, rather than an lighthouse. BUT after looking at the flickr-pictures it turned out to be a lovely creation, a fast constructed Lighthouse, something someone would build fast to make ships aware of an island ect.pp. Lovely design and nice touch with the modular roof. The steps are really nice and the lighthouse keeper looks allready lonely Nice little MOC!

    H.M.S Saint Matthews

Defenitly a "Beast to rule the Oceans" I agree with Derfel Cardan and Captain Becker, she could be sleeker as a two-decker but on the other hand, I would to make her one pre-fab hull longer. It's defenitly worth a try.I like the way you created the side galleries. Still haven't figured out a way to make that stable! The tilled deck is great, too. Great Work!

    HMS Interceptor

Perfectionist will love that. Another ship with hose-headrails-design. The color-scheme is lovely, too. Just one tiny thing, the rigging. How can anybody climb the yards without the cross-rigging But a great MOC. Can't wait till the Brickshelf ordner is public! More feedback than!

    HMS Monarch

Nice progress! The colors are great now. It's good to see the upper yellow stripe above the gunports again Two things I'll like to mention/ask! 1. Snot-plattforms - nice :D but since I didn't see any of these or these , So I have to ask: Will you use the Lego Rigging or strings? 2. Since you want to make her a Brig you need to place the masts different. The foremast needs to be more centered. Something like that: I would place him above the 3rd gun port. But lovely work so far... Keep it up and you'll have a lovely Brig!

    HMS Ares

Thanks for the feedback, I won't change the masts to more black, since I used black rope for the rigging.. it wouldn't look good with more black on the masts, especially since I started the rigging. Still got some problem with the curve of the hoses at the bow, the shorter ones still bend back after a while and "deform" the larger hose's arc but overall I'm happy with it so far... even if it isn't as pefect as Perfectionists. As mentioned, I started to re-rigg her this week. Some of the new rigging-lines gave the masts more stability. Using the Snot-platforms and a lot more of http://img.bricklink.com/P/1/4081b.gif makes her stable, too. I used 124 for the rigging so far. Next step: "cross-side" rigging. I'm still not sure, if I gonna glue or knot them together. Some more sneaks from my handy-cam. I'll try to get the camera over the weekend to make some better pictures. C&C welcome. P.S. I tried to estimate the time I used to build the Ares and the little nameless ship so far... I was shocked... 150h, with 3 complete rebuilds so far ...

    The Rum Room

It's a great MOC you created there. I love the guardrail made of droidarms and telescopes. Haven't seen that yet. lovely work. The overall colors are great. I wished I had more brown to do something the baseplateframe is a nice extra too. the small duck in the mini-duck pond is quite nice. So, again GREAT WORK!!!

    HMS Ares

Thanks for the feedback... I bought some lattice windows, they arrived yesterday, as well as some hoses, you weren't kidding, not much small hoses left in germany, a specially in yellow. Still waiting for another batch to arrive to conclude the headrails. It wasn't as difficult or painful as you mentioned in an earlier post. I just put the hand on another hose and used the hose for leverage... still need 4 smaller hoses to complete and or change the design, but finally I'm happy with it. Here are the pictures: The Ares and my "little" sideproject (not sure, what I will made her ... two masts but I won't make her full-rigged) A closer look to the headrails - still need some work Small changings in the stern:

    Fort Worth

Nice MOC, great work on the cannons, they look really great. interessting design, do you have more pictures of them? 2 questions -what part did you use for the top of the lantern, and what kind of torso is the dark grey? Saw him in your last MOC with the pillaging pirates too. Lovely work! Well Done

    HMS Ares

@ Admiral Croissant: Thanks for the advice, with the colorsheme of the masts (switching black to yellow was quite an improvement), I'll try the other suggestions as well. btw - Which ship's mast are in that picture of yours? @ Perfectionist: "imitation is the highest form of admiration" They lamps are quite nice, catspan and the swivels too... by the way, I guess I try your headrails design as wellm since I'm not happy with the plateversions I tried. And finally that should make her a "Perfectionist's Croissant"-class frigate So you are the reason for the shortage of the axles ... But the suggestion with the hoses could be worth a try. Just played a bit with the stern and I'm happy with it.. for now.

    HMS Ares

Update, I did a bit of rebuilding... the upperdeck completely with the masts and the yards ... since I run out of usable black plates for the crownests I borrowed some ideas of Perfectionist again. The gundeck is now tiled in brown, too since I got around 200 2x2 tiles from my lego store's pick a brick.. Still got unstable masts, so I guess I need to by 32er axles or glue them (last one is not serious)... Most of the new rigging was destroyed after transporting the upperdeck to the ship :( But a sneak peak to improvment: I lost my main mast during the transport :( 3h of new rigging nearly destroyed, I could only safe the mizzen and fore masts, mizzen lost rigging as well... Somebody got 32er axles to spare in Germany? Still not happy with the stern... so no new picture from there.

    HMS Monarch

The yellow line was my personal thought - against most of the rest But, the important thing is, that you like it and don't please us If you gonna build the masts with 2x2 round bricks you defentily should use technic axles for support... the best way are the 32 lengths for the main part of the masts - I know they aren't cheap, but if you want to made selfmade rigging and don't want to use the lego rigging you need stability,... or you end up loose your rigging with crashing masts... Trust me, I speak from experience... 3 hours of rigging destroyed in 3 seconds... just happend to me last night, and I used 2 16er axles to support the mast.... and it broke in between the axles. For yards and the upper masts you need 3mm tubes for support as well. Another way to build the yards and smaller mast-parts are axle connectors like that , With a lot of 2 length axles they are quite stable... It would look something like that: More at my flickr or the HMS Ares thread.
