    Collecting non-lego products

Very cool! Same here! All 1/24 and 1/18 scale cars. Mainly cause of my profession, i'm partial to Police cars. As of late i've started collecting various scale military hellocopters as well. Very cool collection Polish Guy. I finnaly have a room for all my toys as well. makes things a whole lot eaiser to orgnaize and display!

Niether one of those is eaiser to install. Either way it will involve the same level of fabrication. The difference is the first pic. is of a job thats closer to being finished. Not the panels welded in around the hinge. Now look at the second car.. Notice that the area around the hinge isn't filled in. It looks less complicated because its not finished. Alot of the detail work still needs to be completed. Is their a reason you want this autoloc kit? my sugjestion would be to go with a high quality kit and not one based on "ease" of installation. Caue no matter what kit you get, there's going to be heavy fabrication needed to mount them and make everything look, and function like factory.

No ones saying you should give up on your ideas, but you should understand what your getting into. While not impossible, is not an easy task and requires alot of time and experiance. The last thing you want to do is spend money on parts thinking its a simple installation when in fact its the complete opisite. Game consoles in cars are generaly for show cars. Just another thing to give them points at car shows. But in some instances they are installed for function. My boss has a Play Station 2 installed in his chevy Tahoe for his kids to play on long trips. He travels to vist family several times a year and it helps to keep his kids ocupied for 4+ hour long trips. Personaly, i think its a bit much, but its hard to arugue when the kids are at bay! Also, if you think that adding suicide door will bring you closer to the status of a Phantom or Maybach, your sadly mistaken. GPS navigation, leather interior, quality interior pieces (real wood, bushed aluminum that built into the dash/interior panels, not the stick kits pictured) heated/air conditioned seats, dual climate controls.... Basicly anything thats considered a "luxury item". But the real key is having all the these things built with quality in mind. Thats why cars such as Mercadez, BMW, AUDI etc are considered right off the bat as luxury because there known for there quality. Because thats what the market is dictating. And just so you know, land Rover hasn't forgoten there roots. They still build the Defender 110 and 90 that are extremly off road capable rigs. Ever think that that buisness man might have a family? Or likes to take trips on the weekend? Maybe to the snow? Or maybe there buisness might have a need for a 4x4 or SUV? But to be perfectly honest, one doesn't need a real "reason". Its thier money, and there for thier "buisness" what they spend it on. Just because you are in a certain profession does not mean you should have to drive a certain type of vehicle. Thats the worse thing you can do. Cause when you pop the hood to show off the engine, your going to look like an idiot when it doesn't have a hemi. There's no need to make claims of having something you don't. He wasn't reffering to you, but the guy that he might be buying the Cuda from.

While i admire your willingness to learn and want to to the work yourself, this is not a job that should be taken lightly. Like Polish guy said, there is an extensive amount of body work and fabrication needed to not only pull this off, but make it look good but function propperly as well. The "kit" your looking at is a generic one. Meaning its not made for any specific vehicle and there for even more fabrication will bee needed. Remeber, your talking about supporting the the full wieght of the door in an area of the car that was never meant to support said wieght. So renforcment of not only the rear door jam is needed, but also the door itself. The rear quarter panels would need to be cut off to add metal to mount the hinges. The door would also need to be re-enforced. Then there's relocating the door handles, patching the old door handle holes, re-wiring, and of course repainting the doors and rear quarter panels. I'm not trying to discourage you or say your imcapable of doing such a task, but you should understand that the skill level needed to complete such a job is very, very high. Not something you and your buddies can tackle in a weekend. It would take a professional around 2 to 3 weeks of non stop work. If you feel this is something you'd like to do, i'd sugjest you start working as an aprentice at a body shop asap. if you stick with it, you might have the skills and experiance to do this yourself when your in your early mid 20's. As far as price goes, your looking at around the price you seem to have in your head. Like Polish Guy siad, around $8K. That comes to about 5,500 euros. But also, keep in mind the profesional tools needed to complete the job. Welder, body tools, etc. You would need to cut out the metal around the door handles and relocate it to the front of the door. Then you would need to do some metal work and fill in were you cut out the stock hinges. Again, this is by no means a simple task. Nope. The hinges will need to be welded in. There's no kit in the world that would be bolt on for this style door. if the company makes such a claim, there lieing. Chances are for $10,000 your not going to have a hemi or anything number matching. A hemi engine alone is worth around 10-15K none running. But even so, 10,000 should get you a faily decent cuda! No reputable body shop is just going to bolt a suicide door kit to the rear door frame. This is an area that was never designed for the wieght of the door. like you said, it would just buckle under the wieght without some kind of re-enforcment.
  5. Looks great! My only sugjestion for the Crown Vic would to be to try and replace the inboard clear head 1x2 slope used for the headlamp with an amber slope like the one used on the outside corner. Also add some red lights on the push bumper and mirros as all current CHP vehicles have them. Other than that there dead perfect!

Any Formula 1 racing fans out there?

Sorry to hear KimT. But whom ever buys them is sure to keep the Renault engines and chassis right? ...Well now that i think about it, Ross Brawn didn't keep Honda engines or chassis. So the same could happen for Renault.

Agreed. You might not even be intentional. Just an accident. Someone is more likely to remeber a personal plate than your vehicle. While i see your point, in general, cars pared up for drag racing are generaly running within a few tenths of a second from each other. (when running heads up) Thats why races are generaly won at the light "tree". Like my little buddy prateek said, its all good. You didn't waste everyones time. Mistakes are made even by veteran memebers of this forum. The main point is you reconized it. Welcome to the discussion.

What was the last movie you watched?

Understood. Thank you taking the time to explain your thoughts. You make some valid points. As for recently watched movies, i just saw Ninja Assassin Indredible! let me tell you, there is more action in the first five minutes than any other movie in its intirety shown this year! Great fighting, great action, and good story. Not great, but not bad either. Fair warning though.. It is very grafic. And by grafic i mean blood and gore. Think of the movie 300x 10! Highly recomended.

    MOC: CHP Vehicle

Very cool moc. You captured the Vector light bar perfect. I've installed quite a few of them on other agencies vehicles (man there garbage ) Over the next year you'll see them getting switched out to Whelen liberty bars. As far as the steady red, do the traffic enforcment trucks have them on the push bumper? I thought it was always on the outerpods of the vector light bar, or on the newer models, center pod only. very cool. I like how your incorperated the traffic advisor inside the camper sheel like the real thing. Spot on!

    Star Wars

I sure hope not. That would ruin the orignal 3 movies. What made them so great was the model and alien costume animation. Or lack there of. IMO, they wereruined when Lucus updated them with the extra scences filled with CGI. Anyone seen "Fanboys"? Its about a bunch of frineds that break into the skywalker ranch to try and see episode 1 6months or so before its released. Great movie.

What was the last movie you watched?

Well a couple things... First, your coment of.. Makes no sence. Neither does.... It seems that reguardless of wither or not your liked the famous landmarks crushing down, you seemed to get the message just fine. So the movie did its job. But is it wrong to be intertained along the way? Its possible to do both. Ya there weere some far fetched parts. Its a movie. Thats going to happen. Movies are going to apeal to a wide range of people. I'm just curious if you ever just sit down and try and enjoy a movie for what it is. And just so were clear, i don't mean that in any disrespect. But it seems that your looking for every movie to make complete sence. Even when supposed to be taken seriously, many movies will always have a bit of "hollywood" in them. Especailymovies thatare about the end of the world.:)

    Owl City music video

While i can appreciate your views on his music, your feeling and opinion do not represent the general populations feeling on him. While you may think he's the greatest thing since slice bread, several people have pointed out they don't care for his style of music. There are plenty of other styles that supersede his, and while you might think no one will ever get tired of him;... Sorry, but after hearing his song several times throughout the day, it gets old real quick. As far as the video, i don't see the big deal. Just some Lego's on the floor. Big deal.

The unimog is probably the most capable factory off road vehicle. Over 16" of ground clearance (and that's under the axles, not the frame) two transfer cases, locking front and rear differentials, portal axles, near 90' approach and departure angles. One hell of a beast! Another great factory off road rig. If only the reliability were better on Land Rovers. Either way i agree. A beautiful rig.

Very interesting lineup for Mclaren. Will be interesting to see how two back to back world champions work toeghter. Also interesting to see how Nico works in the Brawn/Mercades car. I have alot more to coment, but its time to get ready for work!

As Big Cam said, you can easily, and reliably surpase 250hp from 2.5 liters. The key is forced induction. IN this case, turbo charging. As of now, the same engine powers the Subaru STI and makes north of 300hp. I'd still much rather see a V8 under the hodd, but its a start.

The point of vehicles like this are for pure show. Like Big Cam said, they serve no practical purpose. Only to show off the companies vehicle, and the talent of of the builder. In this case, someone might not want a 50" TV screen in there vehicle, but figure.. "hey, if they can handle that kind of an install, then they should be able to hook up my car with a couple of head rest monitors and sub woofers no problem!" Hence, getting the company that install the equipment business, and showing off the vehicle suppliers newest vehicles. So in a sense, a car like this is a reality, just not for the masses. While not as hard core as the 70 series Land cruiser, my Toyota FJ Cruiser does fantastic off road. These are old picks. I've changed a few things since then. 4WD, ATRAC traction control (kind of like a limited slip differential for the front), locking rear differential, 3" lift, and 33" (currently) toyo Mud terrain tires. Works great in all types of terrain! Again, its not really a concept car. Just a "show car" built for the Sema Show. That car looks sweet! I agree with Big Cam that it looks to be rear wheel drive. Hopefully they stuck there 4.0 or 4.7 litter V8 under the hood!

Again, depends on whitch service you have. Some service providers have dibs on airing seasons before others. Supposed to be an incentive to choosing one over the other. I have to ask... Why do you feel that americans "deserve" to be bashed?

Does anybody else like Motorcycles around here?

No article, heard it directly from the Department heads. I build police cars (as well as other emergency vehicles) for a living, and one of the officers was at my shop telling me about it. He was caught in Interstate 5 in Northern California. He was traveling south bound coming from Sacramento heading towards Antioch. Its about a 20mile stretch of practical dead straight roads. I've traveled down that very same stretch of highway many times myself and its a fairly smooth run with only slight elevations changes. I don't know much about bikes, but from what i understand, that bike is a beast and only needs roughly a mile and a half from a dead stop to hit its top speed. (again,I'm going from what I've been told from my bike buddies.) Its possible that at that time of night, with little traffic that he could have hit those speeds. As for the method used to catch him, I'm not sure. But i believe your correct that he was timed between markers. I'll have to find out what exact method was used. Either way, when the guy was decelerating, a CHP Patrol car nailed him on radar for 148mph. So even if the 203MPH charge doesn't stick, they've got him for at least 148. He Made it as for as my town where local PD caught him.

You can get it in the U.S. They broadcast it on BBC America. It just depends who your cable/digital TV provider is.

My Local Police Department just impounded a Hubusa (sp?). Was clocked at 203mph buy a police airplane. Guy was hauling a$$ at 3:00am coming home from work. Cops caught up to him at his house.

Why do Star Wars fans hate Star Trek so much?

Hmm... Hate is a pretty strong word. So i wouldn't use that to describe the feeling some SW fans have towards ST. But I'd have to disagree with Big Cam in the way many SW fans feel about ST in general. After a weekend of visiting comic book stores in an effort to find anime comic books for my niece, I've found that many of the "hard core" SW fans seem to have a dislike for Roddenberry's universe. I'm not saying that all do, but it seemed that every time there we ran into a SW fan, they were trying in one way or another to prove that there universe was super to the other. Funny thing is they couldn't give any legitimate reason why one was better than the other. I think one of the main reasons SW is getting a bigger fan base is they still have the enterst of kids. I believe that both are running out of idea's. There's only so many "Star Wars" you can have. Even if you change species and planets. But for kids, especially ones that are not familiar with the original movies, its much easier to grab there attention. Like you said, ST has always been more of an adult sci-fi than SW ever was. Without any stores to interest a younger audience it will continue to be overshadowed. I think the main thing that made SW as popular as it was, was the animation; Or lack-there-of. Using real models and costumes added to the realism and the whole look and feel was decades ahead of its time. This is proven when the "prequel"moves came out. Heck, even more so when the original trilogy was re-released with Jabba the hut and his gang in full animation. Looked incredibly fake and really took away from one of the things that made film as good as they were.. As you pointed out, the story/plot/dialogue were all unoriginal, so when the realism of the ships and alien characters were lost to CGI, SW 1,2,and 3 were just run of the mill Sci-fi movies that were nothing special. I'd agree with this. Especially when "epicness" is pretty subjective.

Any Formula 1 racing fans out there?

10th or 9th best isn't bad! And as much as it cringes me to say, i have to admit i agree with your comment about Alonso. One of the worst chassis of the year, but he did manage to scrape some performance out of it. Well Button's career has been longer than Massa's. That equivalents to more Experience than. As for spins, what are you talking about? In the rain maybe, but Massa'a admittedly isn't the best in the rain. Did he have full backing from Ferrari? Sure. But so did Button. Only difference is he proved competitive in an equal field, unlike button. Again, one only needs to look at the points standing if it were started in the middle of the season. Button would have been like 5th in the points championship. And that's with a car that still has an advantage over the competition. Again, I'm not saying that Button is a bad driver, cause he's not. But he hasn't proven to be anything special either.

Any Formula 1 racing fans out there?

Ahh. ok. Cool. What???? Jenson better than Massa???? have you lost your Lego?? There's nothing in his 10year career that shows that he was anything speacial. Before this yr, i believe he only had 2 or three wins under his belt between Renualt and Honda. Massa is a much more consistent driver with much more talent. I mean, isJenson a terrible driver like Nakajima or Piquet Jr? Absolutely not. But he's nothing special that's for sure. And while your correct that not everyone's cars were even, they were matched up better than they were in the beginning of the season. I still believe that Brawn had a much more superior car than anyone else, but Button wasn't able to pull away like he should have. He's just average. If Hamilton, Kimi, Massa, Vettel,or kubica had the Brawn chassis from the start, they would have dominated the entire season. Not just the beginning. We've seen how Jensen handles a poor chassis (his last year at Honda) and how the top runners do. He proved that when he has competition he doesn't have the extra needed to push. While i understand he won the championship, i still strongly believe it had had to do with Brawn's car design.
