Hello fellows, This week I completed my latest Star Wars model : the UCS TIE Silencer. So, what can I say about that model ? I started working on that project about 1 year ago. And quickly I gave up as I couldn't find a nice way to achieve the windscreen. And recently, I tried again to design that model. And I figured out a way to build the model with a pair of 30372 trans-red windscreen. That was the starting point of the whole design process. It was pretty tricky to make those windscreens fit into the build, as they are longer than needed (only the front part of the windscreen is necessary to design the required shape). So I had to find how to build with/around them in a strong and discrete way. As you can guess, I used some SNOT techniques. I also tried to includ some black lines in the windscreen with part 51739 , like the real ship. Designing it was not as easy as it looks. One thing I struggled a lot with was the half plate offset I had to deal with on the side of each SNOTed windscreen. To fill that gap, I used this type of bracket: . Basically, they are used as they were some kind of half thick tile 2x4 inverted. And of course, the ship has an interior, with detailed cockpit. UCS TIE Silencer by Anio, sur Flickr To be honnest, it is not exactly minifig scale (the ship is a bit bigger). But like UCS Y-Wing #75181, I think that it works pretty well visually speaking, so I went for it. The build is modular. Here are the various sub-assemblies of the model : As you can see, the core of the build has a Technic frame to provide stability. Besides the trans-red windscreen, one thing I am happy with is how the various modules fit together at the rear of the ship : In the end, the model is rather big : 60cm long. But it has a very reasonnable part count : only 1481 elements. I don't have much material to present the design process. Basically, the only thing I have left is the wing design. On the picture below you can see the 2 versions of the wings. The design on the bottom of the picture was the first version, and was obviously wrong after I studied more carefully all the reference pictures I gathered. Reproducing precisely the round shape of Rey's Speeder and having all the tiny details was not easy. I tried my best to make the building process modular : The model is design so that it can have studs on the top, on the sides, on the front, and underside. UCS Rey's Speeder by Anio, sur Flickr One of the trickiest part of the design process was having a round shape in 3 directions : width, height, and length. I also combined Technic and studfull to have strong engines at the rear. UCS Rey's Speeder by Anio, sur Flickr I am quite happy with all the scrap stuff in the cargo net. I used the strangest part that came to my mind : Technic hub, driving ring, barrels, gears, etc. And I did a UCS sticker of course. :) I hope instructions will be available in a near future. They are indeed. Both are connected with a string snaking so as to make a 10x19 net.

Hi ! It's been 2 years since I did my last UCS creation. Quite a long time ! Here is my new UCS model : a UCS Jedi Interceptor. And as it is yellow, it is Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Interceptor. :) UCS Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Interceptor by Anio, on Flickr I wanted to do that starfighter for a very long time. Maybe when 10215 was released... But the Jedi Interceptor is not easy to make with Lego bricks. I struggled a lot to do the wings right. Especially the foldable wings. They had to make one when fold, and have appropriate stops when unfold. When the wings were designed, then I did the cockpit. And I think I got a bit lucky to get something as close to the real starfighter, as the shape of a Jedi Interceptor is really tricky to make with Lego bricks. I think I ended with a build with a nice flow. And by luck, DBG areas match more or less the metal reinforcement on the windscreen of the real ship. A few more pictures. I succeed in including all the details I wanted. I think the shape of the model is also very accurate, etc. Of course, as you can expect from most of my MOCs, the model is modular. Here are some more informations about the model : - About 1,050 elements - 33 cm long - modular design - as many printed parts as possible, for better details - some parts had to be painted for the dark red version. They will be switched ASAP. - foldable wings. With locking mechanism for the lower wings as friction was not enough. I wish Lego were producing a plate 1x1 with clips on 2 sides. - full interior with cockpit, seat, etc etc - easy removable windscreen - and of course the UCS display sticker I hope Frousmoul and I will be able to release some instruction for the model. No offense, but you kinda make my point. A - the price of B&P is not so relevant B- eventhough the value were relevant, these parts have little value compared to PU element (about 20 or 25€ per element)

Nah. They don't change the value that much. I mean, compared to electric parts.

Very interesting study. However, I think that the weight and the approx value of electronic parts (motors, hubs) should be deducted from the total weight and the price so as to truly calculate the value of plastic. To some extend, the same should be done with pneumatic parts (cylinders, pumps, switchs) as they are expensive parts.

Compared to regular Lego parts, they also have poor quality. If you look closely, you will see some misalignment when they are stacked. This makes me believe that the production of these counterweight parts might be outsourced. Pretty much like electric motors (PF, PU).

Note that by being the same size but much thinner, the set could have resemble the real LR 13000. There is plenty of empty space in 42146 which makes me believe that it could have been the same size, but correctly scaled. Not to mention that if you go for a thinner design, you can also go for smaller motors, etc.

And each copy will sell for 2000€ like 42113.

@smoothbit I know this is not exactly the set you are looking, but I think that 8436 and 42144 kinda have this universal kit vibe. As for models using a motor kit (8293), here are the references that come to my mind : 9395, 8053, 8294, 8295, 8265, 42029, 42000, 9396, 42039, 42053, 42068. But I am afraid none of them has this universal kit feeling.

Hard to make any relevant comment on how your models is built, assembled, etc. But from a pure visual perspective, with the comparison picture, the official model really looks like a clown.

Great model, really. Clever idea to perfectly reuse 10317 inventory, and very clean design. It can't be any better.
