Just saw the news on Brothers brick that the New Theme - Hidden Side, includes a set with the name -Train. 70424 Train | 698 pieces | $89.99 US | €7.99 EUR (NOTE I think the decimal point was moved, I think it should be $79.99 EURO) https://www.brothers-brick.com/2019/02/14/lego-unveils-new-hidden-side-product-line-with-eight-haunted-augmented-reality-sets-news/?fbclid=IwAR3U5PmK7Nx64A9YscgJTnXHOVvDQ4rVTVrfFsLBzFDJ3jV3p4tmsW1R7Uc But the press release says "LEGO Hidden Side includes a series of eight “haunted” building sets full of awesome functionality and secret surprises that, on their own, provide the build and roleplay fun of any LEGO play theme. " So maybe its a Railway Station and not a train.

There you go, proof - the new plastic on plastic wheels are a dud. Dud - noun 1. a thing that fails to work properly or is otherwise unsatisfactory or worthless. "all three bombs were duds" adjective 1. not working or meeting standards; faulty.

Thanks for the info @peterab, another Ambassador confirmed to me yesterday that the wheel holder is different as he was at the same show and saw the same thing. The idea that they are just a part for sets that are not run on tracks at speed and are just a type of part for a hand push train dosn't make sense to me, why would you design and make new moulds for two new parts that already exist. Every time a new part is developed it means more moulds, more room to store the parts. One advantage would be that you no longer need the metal axels, so that saves some storage and costs. To my way of thinking, its more likely you would only bring out a new part type if you are dropping the old one. The other option is they modify the holder, use the existing wheels 4621116 that take a Technic cross axil. That would mean storage of 5 parts down to 3, which would been an advantage from a production point of view. Another option is a new holder and a once peace wheel and axial part like the new roller coaster wheel sets (Credit to @dr_spock for this idea) Going from 3 parts too 2. @Aanchir you make a very good point about removing metal for a safer product for children. If we are seeing a new part type, at the moment we don't know enough about its construction to know its advantages or disadvantages. I also find it interesting, as it makes you think from a production and design point of view how you would make the change and how you would do it. I guest we will find out in Aug at the latest.

I have just seen some conjecture by Ashley Bognar on "Lego Train Fan Club" Facebook page that the wheels for the trains may have had the metal axle removed. Here is what he posted. "So, Lego has redesigned the 3×6 Train wheel to not use a metal axle anymore. Each wheel is individually moulded with an axle stub and is held into it's own clip. Thoughts?" New Wheels by Stephen, on Flickr It certainly looks to me that the holders have a "U" shape to them for a pin. Just to be clean, we don.t know if the wheels have changed. Thanks for the vidoe link. While it didnt show me whats inside the LEGO cable, it did teach me about the use of a Flow Control Diode. Which shows me what I was hoping the converter cable has inside it. Thank you, I now have a bit more info for the idea I have.

Its fantastic to see others solutions. Our RLUG does a lot of hands on play with kids. We also discovered that most children hold down the buttons rather then push them the required times to make the train move. They also press the stop button a lot as well. I am very surprised that this was not observed in the testing of the controllers with children when LEGO would have tested them in the design stage. We ended up brick building controls that covered the stuff we weren't using (the other channel) and to stop the children pressing the on off button and twisting the dial. (for children driving our trains) We learnt to say to the children, "Press the green ball 3 times to start the train" Another interesting thing someone else discovered, if you place a dummy cell in the battery compartment, the Hub still works but the train wont derail from running a full speed so much as having 6 full battery's. 42627955_163523851247073_7349235715483369472_n.jpg.8cfc3da5028b438fd3921e8e783708fd by Stephen, on Flickr

What you have is there are two types of pins, one has bumps on it that they call friction ridges, they are designed to not turn easy. The Grey pins would be the friction-less pins. LEGO have made so many parts over the years it easy to not see the slight differences. :-) When I was a kid we only had the ones with out friction ridges. The yellow bogey has been used since 2010 in 8 sets. The last time we had the black was 2013. The red bogey plate was produced in 2016 with the Winter Holiday Train 10254 which needs a red plate to suit that train. I would say due to storage space, they can only have two colours at a time and they have not dropped the red part.

I for one am loving the new train ramp, we have a show coming up where we will use the ramp with kids building a train carriage and this would make it much easier for them to put it on the track. Track Ramp by Stephen, on Flickr

While it is great to see the train doors in another set in black (City Bus 60154 has some left side) it is very painful that they don' do the rounded corner train windows of old. The new Hogwarts Express was a big opportunity to reintroduce them, but I guess the moulds for the square type windows frames are not at the end of their life yet.

I was hoping we would get a steamer, as to me that would make more scene. I its funny, I was out today at a miniature ride on railway and had the same thought, a 50's EMD F7 would have been a better chose. @Digger of Bricks I have updated the topic, but yes sadly I think you may be right, I do'n't see any other trains coming out this year. I was a bit hopeful that ether Dumbo or Toy Story 4 may get one, but Im not holding much hope. Now, will I buy this train, yes off course I will, its LEGO and its trains, but it will be modified a lot. I will likely get two as I know kids will like to see it on a display. I have a table of Monster Fighter stuff with the Ghost Train converted to rail, and kids love it.
