    [MOD] Grand Emporium

I have always wanted to build a bigger grand emporium and have been searching google for a long time now looking at everyone's MOD's. Some of them look really great and some just look like a big box. Long story short i was rotating my setup around on the table and my Grand Emporium fell to the ground and shattered into about 1000 little pieces. So I bought another so I had a reason for rebuilding it. As i have only two sets for now, I chose to go with a 48x48 base and an L shaped design. This is the design i liked the most for the exterior. http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=76794 As the first GE was shattered, I build the new building from the ground up with bricks from both sets. I took the base patterns and extended them out to make it grander. The bottom floor will be children's clothes and maybe men's There will be two escalators, an an extended register, a back storage room and either 1 or 2 dressing rooms. The first floor is almost done. The back storage area has been built and the counter is up. I need to finish the sidewalk outside but will do that after the final build. The dressing rooms and racks and shelves still need to be built The start of the second floor. It's going to be huge with over 792 studs of floor space. I was thinking women's clothing but I just don't think I have enough women's minifigs to use for clothes. Maybe housewares also or something. The second story exterior is now about half way built. I will be working on this the next few days to get the entire exterior finished. Stay tuned!

    [MOD] Grand Emporium

@Sjaak There is probably about 30 minifigures used for the clothes on the racks. It barely made a dent in my overall collection of minifigs. Most of them are the odd fronts or the ones i have way too many of like the overalls and the diagonal zipper torso. I may try to re-arrange the layout eventually, but for now it can stay.

    [MOD] Grand Emporium

The finished exterior of the buildings. Not too much has changed. The First floor. A few clothing racks and some perfume. There is a storage area behind the register that leads outside and another small room under the left escalator. This will be for stop loss or theft prevention once I a chair or two and some monitors. The second floor is men's and two dressing rooms. There is also a register on the second floor. I like the 3rd the best as there is something other than clothes. A few beds showing off our fine plastic sheets and other housewares. This is my first interior I have ever really tried to do so I'm sure it will change as I see fit. Any suggestions are welcome!

    [MOD] Grand Emporium

Oh wow that 5 story tall one is crazy. So many flags did you see the picture of it being 13 stories tall? Way too many flags but i guess it makes the floors easy to stack. Without adding too much to the conversation at this point, I will say that I like how this has become more of a thread about modding the GE rather than my particular build.

    [MOD] Grand Emporium

Looking really good. My progress on the interior has been a little slower than i would have liked but the first floor has come along. I'll try to get some pictures up here in the next day or two. @AJAX Here is a list of all the GE mods I have seen. I decided to with the L shape as it looked the most natural. http://s248.photobuc...tml?sort=3&o=16 This a 36 x 48 Build that is 4 Stories tall. Looks like 2 sets http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=68810 This is a 36 x 72 build that is also 4 stories tall. It gets a little fancy with the roof and looks great! It looks like 3 sets :( http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=76794 A Link to Xavier's build that I based my GE off of. 48 x 48 baseplate http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=70240 Here's a pretty interesting 36 x 72 build that has it's own unique look. And it's tiled!!! http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=39736 A few different builds showing differences in adding height or width. Last but not least http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=90595 This is an interior mod that looks fantastic and adds a lot more life to the basic GE build. Really inspired me.

    [MOD] Grand Emporium

I am glad to have inspired you. It looks great using only the parts from the GE for interior so far. It really just looks great in these proportions and fits in very well in the city. I am currently sorting all of my gallon bags of parts (12 milk crates full) so I can create some sort of presentable interior.

    [MOD] Grand Emporium

Mostly this. I still have to build the interior so all of those pieces are left over from both buildings. I also have the main door and the back door, some of the windows, dark gray sidewalk tiles, and enough pieces for 2 of the pillars. I used all of the wall pieces and the only thing I was short on was a few wall pieces and a lot of 1x high plates. It's not too noticeable in the pictures but the roof is over 50% light gray instead of dark and both the second and 3rd floors by the escalators are off colored. This could partially be because my open space next to the escalators was only 7 studs wide instead of the original 10 studs. I am very pleased with how much room I have to work with and just hope that the inside will look as good as the outside when this is finished.

Looks great! It's nice to turn a dropped modular into something that is better than it ever was! I would love to see the interior and that GE you are working on. Brick on!

How do you store your LEGO

I saw the thread on how people display their legos, but was just wondering what people use around the forums for storage. I personally am very limited in space and have too many Legos. I am currently storing everything in 1 Gallon Ziploc storage bags and keeping all of the bags in milk crates. Right now i have about 15 crates full and it seems to serve it's purpose. Edit: Just realized this isn't the right forum I posted in. Could a mod plz move it.

Wow! Thanks for all of the replies. This is my first MOD but I'm very pleased with it thus far. I have just started working on the 3rd floor and should have pictures up in the next day or two! edit: I really like the interior that Sin has created as a mod for the original GE Links to it below http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=90595

    Steven Asbury Fire Station MOC

This is simply amazing. Best fire station I've seen hands down. Is there a full interior as well to go with this lovely exterior?

    [MOD] Grand Emporium

The building sides are 24 studs on the sides and 40 in the front. Each side of the building mirrors the opposite side of the building. I left out the archway and built a back office or storage room most likely on the first floor. I am just now finishing the layer above the dark brown on the second floor and piece usage is looking alright. I have had to use a few spare parts but not more than 10-20 bricks all together thus far. It was really only for the floor i needed a few tiles to make the entire thing. The sides seem to be holding up well possibly even with extra pieces left over. Will post pictures soon of the completed second level exterior. First floor showing the register and back storage room. I am thinking of putting a bathroom in or dressing rooms in the empty space near the back wall. The second floor is nothing special but it is just so huge! I am not sure what i will put in here The exterior as it sits right now. I will work on the 3rd floor tomorrow.

    [MOD] Grand Emporium

That's funny, I linked to that in my original post. The main difference between the two, is that my build is one floor at a time rather than adding on to the original

    [MOD] Emergency Treatment Center

My town needs a hopital. I have owned the ETC since it came out and it has always been my favorite hospital. Since the city has gone modular recently I decided to build a in modular form that still resembled the Emergency Treatment Center. I don't have too many snot bricks at the moment so I can't be too fancy. A shot with the top parking structure removed. Start of the 2 ER rooms on the first floor This will be the reception area and elevator. I'm not too keen on elevator design so I am using a lift from an old shell gas station. I have just started this project recently and it is on hold mostly until either I sort more bricks or change the color scheme. The hospital will be 2-3 stories tall eventually with the elevator being taller than the area near the parking structure. I am thinking maybe a helipad on the top of the 2nd floor there but that is pretty far down the road. Here is a link to the Emergency Treatment Center if you are not familiar with it. http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/6380_Emergency_Treatment_Center

Tumbler, Bat Pod & The Bat - Movie Accurate 2 Seaters

Probably the best Tumbler I have seen. I do like the gold as a means to break it up a little bit and give it more depth from further away. A nice dark gray might do the same trick and fit in better with the overall design. Either way I have supported it as it is just great!

    Why hello there...

Well hello eurobricks. I just recently decided to stop waiting until i had the space and started building legos again anyways. I saw this site as a source of inspiration for newer city techniques. I'll look forward to learning different ways of putting bricks together and turning my 1980's lego city in to more of a modern one.
