    LDD won't start

I also have a startup-related issue. When I click on an LXF file and use "Open With", LDD starts up but does not automatically open the selected file. I thus have to save an LXF file to my computer every time I want to open it. Can this be circumvented? And I might as well have all my questions answered at the same time, so is there a way to have multiple files open at once?
  2. Never mind. It's not important.
  3. What I meant was, could you clarify what you meant by your last post? Because "a big part of to too" doesn't make sense to me. Americans and their crazy bastardized English.

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here

I've asked this before, and the answer I received was that unless you already own most of the parts to build it, purchasing a complete set will be cheaper than ordering all of its parts individually. Neither is really too great, though. I think I remember having seen instructions for a good MOC a while back...

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here

You test my patience by stating the painfully obvious. The canonical 'predecessor' story would be more believable if the ARC-170 wasn't such a crazy ship. I always did find three copilots and six wings rather excessive - in fact, there was a review of Sith I read a few years back saying that what 'ARC' really stood for was 'Amazingly Retarded Concept'. There was an illustration that went with the phrase, but I can't seem to find it at the moment... Back on topic, a quick Google search yields this.

Actually, the Z-95 precedes both craft canonically. I don't think the ARC-170 and X-wing are similar at all - the only thing they really share is the use of S-foils (and even then, the mechanisms of both are very different).
  7. Excuse me? "A big part of to too"?

    REVIEW: 9495 Y-Wing (2012)

I'd say ERTL and even Hasbro made a decent attempt at acknowledging it. But you're probably right in saying that it wouldn't be appreciated in a LEGO set.
  9. There's plenty of time to post. I would encourage you to take as much time as you need to look your MOC (and commentary) over before posting so that people will be able to see your best work. A big issue I had with many of my earliest MOCs was that I posted them before they were really finished - whenever I tried to write commentary for them I ended up talking about what I didn't and couldn't achieve more than anything else. What's more, all the suggestions people made were highlights of shortcomings I had already known about when posting the creation, leading to me getting annoyed rather than working to make the improvements I knew I had to make. More than anything else, this is your own creation – you shouldn't feel any obligation to present it to the community until you feel it's worthy to do so.

    REVIEW: 9495 Y-Wing (2012)

Not so. One could hinge the entire construction to slope downwards, similar to the head of a Lambda-class shuttle. Since the canopy should slope as well, it could work.

    REVIEW: 9495 Y-Wing (2012)

Thanks for the review. If I were to purchase this set, I would most likely due so for the quality minifigures and neat parts. While the model itself does sport one good improvement (a nice, roomy cockpit ) I find it too poorly designed for display. Among other things, I find the fact that the droid socket protrudes from the underside of the ship hilarious. To say that the new head is “far more screen-accurate” is a bit of an overstatement in my opinion. There's definitely prominent sloping on the head, and while the lack of topside curvature is an improvement, stepped plates don't quite do the angles justice. Then again, I have yet to see anyone do a better job at this size with LEGO, so perhaps it's a moot point. I would have to disagree. SNOTing the sides of the head was a good decision, but it was poorly executed, as I've mentioned before. The same could be said for the curved slope at the front, which looks out of place with the stepped plates. The rectangular structures between the engines and the fuselage are situated too far downwards. See their location relative to the pyramidal slopes in this picture – it should be obvious that said structures should be around a brick higher. I also think they're too thick (the ideal size would probably be about one stud's width, as on Flail's Y-wing), but that's understandable for stability reasons (as well as the fact that they are flush with the underside). And of course it's well-established that 4-wide engines are too small for a Y-wing of this size (especially considering that they were just about perfect for Brickdoctor's MIDI rendition). Actually, the entire aft section of the fuselage just might need trimming down. The Y-wing's ion cannons should be fixed forward – there isn't supposed to be any vertical movement . I suppose some articulation would have increased playability, though. That reminds me – how secure is the connection? I remember many people annoyed by how the cannons on 7658 and 7150 swiveled wildly while swooshing.

    Talz Encounter

I see the build is of your usual quality, ACPin. Rather than repeat what others have said, I'll just leave a quick note that this WIP has been... He's made quite a few.

    MOC 2012 Edition Landspeeder

I like the improvements you've made. The two most prominent alterations – the replacement of the curved bricks with 33 slopes and the layer of tiling – serve to give the creation a completely new look, one far sleeker and more streamlined. Your SNOT core is also worthy of mention here, as this construction allows the aforementioned alterations to be made while retaining the clever use of the cheese and window pieces. The new cockpit interior is just as impressive as the previous one, featuring a more accurate dashboard and the crucial stick shift. Clever use of the pistols as the grips of the yoke. It appears that the side-mounted turbine engines have been shifted downward such that they align with the axis of symmetry; while this is a deviation from the studio model, I must acknowledge that the overall result is much cleaner. The same could be said for the pronounced 'thinness' of the main body. Furthermore, many unnecessary edges have been removed from the rear end – very nice. I recall mentioning this in your previous MOC thread, and I'm very glad that a new member was able to improve upon a creation with feedback from the community.

USC Super Star Destroyer Mod (10221)

You've really made all the 'right' mods to this set. When pictures of 10221 were first leaked, two of the biggest complaints relating to the build were the flat bottom and the lack of interesting greeble, both of which you have tackled and corrected. But I suppose nothing less is to be expected from someone who does their homework as thoroughly as you seem to do. You've even corrected the length deficiency of the included MINI Imperator (though I calculated 14 studs...using the 17.6km length, that is ). I don't mind the stepped plates at all – it seems like the most logical choice with stability in mind, and it's certainly better than a flat bottom. Replacing the rectangular plates with wedges was another step in the right direction, and the difference is appreciable in a side-by-side comparison. The detailing on the engine bank has to be the biggest and most significant improvement. The relative lack of greeble in that area was my initial gripe about this set, especially since the original 282cm miniature trounces any other model in kitbashed detail. With all the small parts on both models it's nearly impossible for all the bits to match up, but your mod more than looks the part. And lastly: I suggest you get used to seeing this, because I intend to blog every single one of your superb UCS mods! Which leads me to ask this: which will you be tackling next? I assume you've seen Brian Tobin's lovely setmod/custom hybrids of 10129 and 10134 – being a huge fan of his work I look forward to seeing your own take on those sets. Your aforementioned 10019 is of interest to me as well, especially being familiar with lowlead's Sundered Heart mod...

    Review: 9494 - Anakin's Jedi Interceptor

Vader wasn't acting under the Republic at the time, and Palpatine could easily have procured an unmarked Eta-2 for him (he sent him on the mission, after all). That's my 'in-universe' theory. Since the Republic is associated with the Jedi, the lack of Republic markings could also serve to symbolize Anakin's fall from the light.
  17. I noticed today that, for whatever reason, the building instructions for all of the Star Wars sets appear to have been removed from LEGO.com except for those of 8308 and 8039. The same goes for Pirates and Town sets, among others. Has this happened before? If so, why?

    Help with identifying parts/sets!

That's the torso! I do wish I still had the white legs the minifigure originally came with.

    Help with identifying parts/sets!

That's incredible! I can't remember ever having owned one of those, but a handful of the pieces are in my loose box, so I know I had it at some point. (That's my picture, by the way.) Of course, what this also means is that I lost a good number of useful parts. Let's try another one, then. I don't have a picture, but the minifigure in question had red hips and legs, white arms, and a white torso with a broad blue stripe down the middle and thinner red stripes on either side of the blue stripe. Ring any bells? The torso is really the only 'unique' part of the minifigure, so I'm interested in learning where that came from.

    Review: 9494 - Anakin's Jedi Interceptor

Good observation. I noticed that from earlier pictures, but I always assumed that it only appeared that way from lighting. By the way, the Artoo image you provided as reference is actually a that Don Solo probably already owns.

    Review: 9493 X-Wing Starfighter

It's rather disappointing that the cargo bay is still misplaced forward. Hopefully it won't prove too difficult to fix. If I haven't already mentioned it before, the idea of SNOTing the slope bricks in back is probably taken from Bruce Lowell's X-wing (though his was slightly more involved).

    REVIEW: 9493 X-Wing (2012)

That would be this one. It may not look like much now to the typical FOL, but it's still the best System X-wing set in my opinion. The fact that the old robot bodies allow the addition of a third leg is another plus.

    Books

While both of the books you mentioned have been around for a while (and are chock full of errors which one will have great fun finding ) you've provided a succinct evaluation of their content and posted a very nice picture of the exclusive minifigures included. For that reason:

    Help with identifying parts/sets!

I actually don't remember Galidor being too bad of a show. Some kids even bought a toy or two. Back on topic, I've always wanted to know what set or sets the torso of the minifigure in this picture comes from. A set from the '90s, perhaps...
