Why is LEGO so obsessed with Batman?

Uh, Citation needed? I've not heard from anywhere that there is any sort of fatigue over Batman. If there is/was, 2012 was seven years ago and now all the toy companies have a fresh batch of kids old enough to want toys based on Batman.

Why is LEGO so obsessed with Batman?

Batman has enormous global recognition. The Adam West fronted tv series, big budget films in theaters during the decades where other superhero films struggled to get the green light... Like Coke, Micky Mouse and the golden arches of McDonald's; people the world over know what it is.

Does anybody else find it hard to talk about Lego IRL

I suppose it is also to do with your personal decisions on how much of yourself you share. I wear my whole self on my sleeve, so to speak. Sometimes literally (I have a LEGO Logo patch on one of my jackets). I think I am lucky that in the UK eccentricity is accepted as part of life. Case in point: About a fortnight ago I found the LEGO City space station on sale in the supermarket, so I bought that and a couple of beers that I had gone in for. At the checkout, the cashier commented that I was set for a great night with purchases like that. The last time someone was a bit odd to me about it was actually from someone I personally know, and she is super basic and not known to be a particularly nice person.

Do you buy toys other than LEGO?

I know! I have managed to get more than a dozen just in the past few weeks. I decided to try swapping buying chocolate or pringles (so unhealthy treats) for a toy car... it has added up!

I feel like Eurobricks is something of an old boys club

It looks like knotian is saying that his creations in digital would not work in physical brick. Not digital builds in general.

Do you buy toys other than LEGO?

Neat! I have only got about 30, I did have a lot more for a while.I still have the handful of cars from my childhood, I had a period of buying bunches of cars a few years back but decided to focus on Batmobile cars and one cast. The ones that didn't fit I gave to a few good causes. (Nothing feels so good as giving a family some toys when they are really in need). So I do not regret making my collection smaller, but I have found some more casts I want to get.

LEGO Masters US wants Paokus... apparently...

Poor lonely LEGO Fan. I tried out with my brother for the UK one but it ended up clashing too much with work so I couldn't go further. But if anyone does get on to this show a spiffy As Seen on TV tag is waiting.

Does anybody else find it hard to talk about Lego IRL

It was a series on UK TV, Channel 4 in which pairs of builders created LEGO MOCs from a brief or for a challenge. It was a combination and AFOLs, kids and teens in pairs that were friends, family and in one, two good builders matched together. EB's own @JanetVanD was in series 1, which @NateDias won . The judges were a LEGO designer and a rotation of STEM professionals and a TV Personality/Celebrity. There have been two series and a special Celebrity version. As it was on and advertised on national television, I have found a lot of people embrace the idea of an AFOL and talk to me about my creations. In fact, when I took my Yellow Castle MOC to photograph, some of the visitors that day stopped for great conversations.

Latest CMF series impact on Historic themes

All black figure has the classic Blacktron Triforce, so that dude is a space guy.In the meantime, there is a chap that looks rather like Johnny Thunder,so he might do to add some flavour to the wild west, a character has a pair of pooches (that recent dachshund that was leaked a while ago) there is also a Fox animal suit person with the sack and a chicken in a new colour. Unfortunately, the picture I have come across is not the best resolution, so if other figures have printed legs that might work well in historic, I can't quite make out details.

I put LEGO in my CV, it is my hobby and I will talk at length about it. I suppose the thing is, I can leverage a lot of what I do with MOCing and helping out here on the forums into desirable work skills. Then, as hobbies go, it is pretty respectable even if it is toys. I probably do benefit from being a creative builder with a technical background in my employment history. (I have construction engineering qualifications, even if in this employment environment I am working in an admin job). So, I will say that my upcoming holiday is centred around a LEGOLAND trip and meeting my fellow LEGO fans, I will tell my colleagues when and where I am displaying. Heck, if someone asks about my weekend, I will probably pull out my phone to share some WIP photos on my latest project. I do think that Lego Masters on TV helped people's perception of LEGO as a hobby too.

I have gotten majorly obsessed with Hot Wheels again. So I am buying diecast cars!
  14. It is hard to reply objectively. The 90s was my childhood and everything positive of the past is highly coloured by nostalgia. I enjoy some sets that people cite as the worst kind of "juniorisation", but they are my favourites as they were part of my small LEGO collection from childhood. Sets that today would look quite poor on the shelves were the best available at the time, or judged through young eyes to be the best. I have to say, the current City and Friends sets are a whole lot more appealing to me now then Town sets ever were when I was young. But when I was a child, I loved the Aquazone, Adventurers and Castle sets, Rock Raiders and Racers. The few cit sets I chose were small planes and boats and a single police set for the motorcycle. There were also themes that are now under the City banner, like the Space Port and Diving sets. But when I had the diver and a few small space port sets, they were not branded as Town or City. So I suppose that actually, I think the modern sets in the City theme are a lot better than those offered us in the 90s.

    Lego travel set?

Damn! Beaten to it. Quick draw posting It is a neat little set. I have the full set of the first series cards too.
  17. Uh, you are derailing your own thread? On the subject: I use bricks from my own collection that I gathered from years of sets and also handed down LEGO. I have bought Pick-a-brick cups for interesting parts or a bulk of one part I have a purpose in mind for. I also like to buy mixed boxes from thrift/charity shops and people who are selling their kids abandoned LEGO. It provides some fun surprises and random things. For some specific projects I have ordered specific parts on Bricklink, but this is mostly special pieces like flags and windows. It really depends how you want to MOC. If you want to design something in a fluid way, building up a bank of parts is an advisable move. If you want to build with a certain plan, you are well served by purchasing the needed parts online.

    [MOC] Racer 42

Thanks for the compliment I was wanted a vehicle that could power through any environment so I am glad that it comes through.

    [MOC] Racer 42

The Race is coming. Racer42 is a three wheeled machine with high power. The pilot and the navigator are primed to drive. Are they willing participants or another vehicle dragged into the Race? -- The Race is a concept I am working on that pulls from a number of sources but is firmly SF. This car is setting the tone, creating the flavour for my own theme. That's what the Logo is for too. You can pick out some more details here. I have been playing about the asymmetry and using printed/stickered parts to complement a build. The colour scheme is a favourite of mine, LEGO Yellow is a pure classic.

It seemed something like a no-brainer when I was looking at my canopy options. After banging on about Ground-Car SF racing, I had to build.

    Why is Constraction So Disrespected?

Why does anyone hate on anything? That is a pretty open ended question. Some people revel in complaining and grumbling, forever seeking more things to dislike and be negative about. There are people out there who rate it poorly, there are people who will rate constraction high on their theme lists. It isn't something to take personally, everything is subjective . These tier lists are another meme fad that will pass.

LEGO Group Attending Pride in London!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-48892889 Relevant I think. Wading in on the discussion: I don't know about representation, LEGO can be played with however you like and any figure can be anything you want it to be. You build your own narrative just as much as you build a set. An all inclusive Valentine gift set and wedding set would be nice (except the potential price!). It is a tricky subject, but at the same time, if we are all equal and all accepting then: People are People and Minifigs are Minifigs. (Though, a RuPaul series of CMFs would be aces!)
