8043 Excavator - Lego update
robuko replied to tomacwhite's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I just bought one. If there is a fix, owners of the original 8043 will get it too. If there isn't, this will be a rare model, and is likely to appreciate in value. In the worst case, you could probably get a refund. So it's all upside and no downside, I think. Robuko -
Red Moon Confirmation & Discussion thread
robuko replied to Hinckley's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
It's great that we will see an end to the game. As a spectator, I would love to see the clues summarised by Hinckley, and the players given a chance to solve the mystery before the no doubt gruesome end. I am not really familiar with this type of game, but I thought that the supernatural dimension (which I loved) blurs the ground a lot between reality and unreality, which makes it difficult for the players to apply logic to finding clues and problem solving. I thought it was quite interesting that it was not really possible to interrogate the NPCs for clues, as I would have expected that the way the players ask questions could influence the outcome. Thanks very much for hosting, Hinckley, it has been a wonderful game to follow, the setting is very imaginative and the presentation is excellent. Robuko -
Lego report on childrens creativity in the digital age
robuko replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks for posting this Superkalle, I found chapters 1, 2 and 7 well worth reading, especially chapter 2, which is about how and why people communicate on Web 2.0. The paper has very broad applicatons, but is also very specific. I guess we can get some idea of how TLG is thinking about Lego Universe, Mindstorms, and LDD from this. It's funny how we all take for granted, that the stuff that kids can access at home is a lot more sophisticated than many people can use in the workplace. Robuko -

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
robuko replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks Klaus-Dieter, These are all wonderful scoops, you have a great memory. Do you happen to remember whether the alien head is a new mould, or is it a printed normal head? many thanks, Robuko -
Sandy, this is a great game to follow

Minifg collectors series 1 now sold out
robuko replied to Superkalle's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
John Lewis in Oxford Street London still has availability on these figures, I completed my collection of series 1 there -
1) What is your experience with mafia games, here and elsewhere? I have not played any, though I have followed Infection and Red Moon and I would love to be in one. 2) What is your relationship with the Harry Potter -franchise? Big fan. I have read all the books at least 5 times, watched all the movies even more. I have Beedle the Bard, Fabulous Beasts, and Quidditch through the Ages. The Knight Bus was the set that brought me out of my dark ages, I have 29 Harry Potter lego sets and I know that Steve de Witt was forced to eat his words on the fleshie Ginny. My only entry so far for a Eurobricks contest was a Harry Potter themed train, the Morsmordre Express.

If we were going to get a Steampunk theme, what would you want?
robuko replied to tchuk-norst's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
The Highwind from Final Fantasy 7, the Unicycle, hardsuits and tank from Steamboy, various SkyFi craft like in SkyCrawlers, ornithopters, the workshop of Leonard of Quirm, bathyscaphes, the Nautilus, for starters -
D2C Designers requesting feedback for 2012 models
robuko replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
1. No, never bought one 2. mostly I stick to certain themes and buy the sets I like, but I also buy other sets if I think they're good 3. something really complicated and world recognised, no big blanks walls or repetitive builds - Kiyomizu temple, Itsukushima temple, Udaipur palace, Borobodor, Angkor Wat, the UK houses of Parliament, any of the world's great cathedrals or mosques, especially la Sagrada Familia or anything gothic, Kings College Chapel, temples of Karnak, Petra, the Alhambra, the Mezquita, Sydney Opera house, Pothala Palace, recreations of Roman, Egyptian, Greek villas, temples, fora and monuments, the 7 ancient wonders of the World especially the Colossus and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Most European countries have very cool iconic historical buildings which would make great sets. 4. I am most impressed with UCS when there are a lot of unique minifigs like the 10123 or 10188, and I am disappointed when it is standard figures with lots of stickers like 10195. I would like to see more Star Wars playsets especially Mos Eisley, Theed Palace, Jedi Temple. Indiana Jones playsets. Lunar Lander. Iconic cars - Lamborghini Miura, Ferrari 250GTO while Lego has the licenses, movie tie-in one offs such as the flying DeLorean from Back to the Future, the steampunk train from Back to the Future 3, Ectoplasm1 from Ghostbusters, Inspector Morse's Jaguar S type, Emma Peel's Lotus Elan. Classic cars from the 1960s - Jaguar E Type, Citroen 2CV and DS. I am torn on the return of classic sets such as 928, I would love to see them but we all have an interest in old sets maintaining their value. 5. Current profit margins are abnormally high, reinvest them in product quality with an eye to long term user value. Many of us are in the hobby for the long term and we want to be able to use 30-year old sets, and our kids will want to use today's sets in 30 years - raise Chinese plastic quality especially on minifigs, move back to printed parts rather than stickers. Bring back Western, launch historic Greek, Roman, Egyptian themes (Greek myths would be superb, with wonderful mythical beast potential, Atlantis is an easy way in to a long-term myth theme). Star Wars is good because it has so many characters, try to diversify the minifig mix in other license themes (too many Indys and Harrys, not enough Belloqs or Nevilles). More use of natural colours, more animal and plant life, and more interior detail on buildings. New licenses with longer term potential, think of the minifig potential as well as the vehicle count for the collectors' market. Other license ideas -Final Fantasy as a steampunk theme, Star Trek, Tron, Miyazaki cartoons (lots of flying vehicles), Doctor Who. Expand PAB to include historic and highly-demanded parts like monorail tracks, introduce old grey colours to PAB. Keep an interest in the girl market and the AFOL market when designing product spec. More battlepacks, or sell more minifigs seperately. Equalise global pricing at US levels. And, thankyou to TLC for asking us, thankyou for the expanded magnet ranges, thankyou for re-launching Space with alien characters, and thankyou for the excellent 2010 product range, especially the very good range of minifigs this year. -

I'm very happy to see HP return, I have most of the earlier sets. This is a good opportunity particularly for younger HP and lego fans to get some sets. I remember an interview a few years back that said there would definitely never be a Ginny fleshie, I am very happy Lego have changed their minds. wins for me are - all of the new figures especially Bellatrix, Fenrir, Flitwick, Filch and Luna, printed owls, the Burrow, Hogwarts castle, Quidditch, sorting hat, James Potter shield, Quidditch cup, Quibbler and newspapers, Ron emo hair, chocolate frog, new Draco hair and face misses are - Aragog, Snape hair, Hermione, still far too many Harry figs. Hagrid's hut, Dobby's Release and the Hogwarts Express look no better, or worse, than previous sets 4754 4727 4728 4708 4731. I would honestly look for older sets before these new ones, which is sad as it's a real missed opportunity to make these ones special, especially given how lovely the Emerald Express is. It's a scam to put Luna only in the train set with a lame remake car and train just to make collectors pay up for her. I am totally relaxed about the Luna/ invisibility cloak/flying car controversy as all are contemporaneous from year 4 but I can't understand the Voldemort at Hogwarts/vanishing cabinet angle, which seems non-canonical to me. I would love to see another wave, so despite some misgivings on the remakes I really hope these are successful commercially. Looks like the Burrow is definitely the pick of these sets, it seems relatively good value. Good luck Lego! seems like micro Dumbledore, Ron, Harry, Hermione and Draco on fbtb's page http://www.flickr.com/photos/fbtbnet/sets/72157623437039016/ Yay!

This is lovely, great to have another HP fan on board. I have been trying to do something similar for a while, putting the features of the original sets around a solid core but I keep running in to space and stability issues, and I haven't got much beyond the chamber of secrets level. Your excellent castle insipres me to get a move on with it. The BURPs are an excellent way to mount the castle, and I love it that you have kept so much of the original sets look. The open central hall is a really good solution too, I keep getting stuck in a debate of corridor access between classes vs playset accessibility. Are you planning to add areas that have not been released as sets, like Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw common rooms, transfiguration class? Congratulations! I am very much looking forward to the next version. Good luck with your move!

I would love to play - this would be my first time. Robuko

Many thanks Brickster for organising such a fun contest, thanks to all who took a look at the Morsmordre Express, and congratulations to all the entrants, especially pe668 for the hilarious video. This was my first time to build a train, and my first time to enter a contest on Eurobricks. I had a lot of fun, thank you for your encouragement.

New Japanese LEGO Bricks x Paper Products!
robuko replied to Alywin's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I guess this is hanashi with the meaning of "story" as it seems to be a little red riding hood set in the Midtown display -
I just discovered and read all of these, each one is pure joy and genius. I love all the characters, and the photography, setting and dialogue are superb. It would be a tragedy if this is the end KDog, say it ain't so! I'm sure the comic takes a huge committment, if you don't have time, you could leave it on hiatus until you feel in to it again. Please don't end it this way.

I have some old cartoon ideas - none of which is likely but - Mysterious Cities of Gold - the golden condor would be a good set, there could be a good shipwreck or two, and some pyramid action Dogtanian and the 3 Muskehounds - the return of Fabuland! Yatterman - giant mecha dog would look great in lego Space Pirate Captain Harlock, Galaxy Express, Battle of the Planets would be great for minifigs, but the vehicles would probably be too big, same for Star Trek Discworld series - not many vehicles but it could work as a Mediaeval theme Miyazaki films - Laputa, Porco Rosso, Nausicaa would be great for steampunkers Peter Pan - evergreen and lots of playset potential Wallace and Gromit some of the Japanese themes other members have mentioned have already been done by clone brands, complicating the picture for lego - Diablock has Hello Kitty, Transformers and Evangelion, and Megabloks has Gundam It would be nice to see some detective sets - Sherlock Holmes, Poirot, Miss Marple, Life on Mars - with nice old buildings and vehicles otherwise, Final Fantasy (especially VII), Kingdom Hearts, Ghostbusters, Back To The Future, Pirates Of The Caribbean (another old megabloks license), Marvel, James Bond, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Transformers all get my vote. I guess old movies are not going to happen except in our dreams and MOCs. 2010 movie tie-in opportunities include Alice in Wonderland, Iron Man, Shrek, Robin Hood, The A Team, Predator, Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets), X Men - any of these could have potential if they are not too violent.

Thank you all for looking, and for your kind comments. This train is based on the Harry Potter stories. The front of the train is the symbol made by Morsmordre spell, which is one of the most terrifying sights, representing that the Death Eaters have struck. It inspires fear and panic into anyone who sees it. :pir-skull: It seemed natural that once the symbol becomes a train, the snake should be Nagini and the crew should be Voldemort and the Death Eaters. The engine represents Nagini transfigured, and that means the train is, perhaps, a horcrux. If it is a horcrux, Voldemort has made himself an easier target in his quest for power and vengeance... Happy Hallowe'en! ps too late for the contest but just for fun, the Morsmordre express has had a baby!

Thanks Brickster. Sorry I didn't work out how to do it. Thankyou very much for embedding the image too

GTE - The Morsmordre Express Apologies to everyone if i am doing this wrong, this is my first attempt to link. Also my first attempt at a train Here is my entry http://www.flickr.com/photos/41980291@N06/...in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/41980291@N06/...in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/41980291@N06/...in/photostream/ It is Halloween. Voldemort, Malfoy, Nott and Fenrir are hunting for the boy wizard Harry Potter. Brooms are too slow, it must be tonight! Only Nagini, transfigured into the Morsdmordre Express, can give them the speed they require. But maybe, in his blind desire, Voldemort has overreached. Is the train itself a horcrux?

I never built a train before, but I will have a go for this. When is the close?
