PAB Cups: What Did You Get?

As far as i remember, the PAB cups in Denmark are 79,95DKK for the small cup and 129,95DKK for the large one. (and yes - LEGO is rather expensive in Denmark, considering we are the native land of LEGO. But that's the price for our relative high living standard - everything is plastered with taxes and whatnot )

You know you are a fan of Lego when...

When you celebrate your 29th birthday with your family, and the presents you open are two creator houses and midevial market village - and no one raises an eyebrow...they only ask nervously if you have those sets already I love my family

Things non-AFOLs say WAY too often

I'm a month away from turning 29 haven't been a teenager for almost a decade - I just work with really old people

Things non-AFOLs say WAY too often

Well, most of what i've heard, have already been told by others... But mostly I get the "you still play with legos" from my co-workers - even tough they frequently ask if i got any news sets recently. But being the youngest at work has its priviligies...whenever they try to shame me by my collection i just answer with a "well im not as old as you guys" and that shuts them up for a while. And on the positive side...i got loads of offers on bying their kids lego collection as they grow out of it. But the strangest thing i've experinced was a couple of weeks ago... One of the bigger supermarkets here i denmark, Bilka, got their annual 35% off all their lego sets. Me and my husband and son have saved up for that occasion, so we got quite a full cart when we were done. Technic for my husband, City for my son and Friends for me. On the same day, they had an offer for a KitchenAid, witch we talked about getting for a long time. To get it, we had to ask for someone at the electronics department to go out back and get our model and so we waited with the other clerk (a little people guy, who was the most unknowing electronics guy i have ever met) He was talking to another customer about some specs on a computer he was looking to buy. Both me and my husband work with, and have an interest in computers, and he was more or less screwing this guy over with his lack of knowledge on everything basic about this computer...selling on the terms of "I don't have a clue, but the bigger you go, the more money we earn even though you won't ever need 80% of what this can do" When he was through with the screwing he turned to us, and saw our cart - looked at my son and said "thats really a lot of lego for you and your little sister" My son, shameless and all, just answered "the city is for me, but the friends is for my mom - you should see her collection, it's really cool - and shes got modulars too!" Proud and well raised he is... Nevertheless...the little guy just looks at me as if I was the biggest freak on the planet of the earth...he didn't even have to say anything, the look I got said it all - and I just smiled my biggest, proudest smile ever. Just to disclaim, I have absoluty no beef with disaled people, or people born with quirks...I was born with a disability myself...but being seen as a freak of nature by af dwarf because of my lego hobby, that has got to be the saddest and funniest thing i will ever experience...I hope.

Talking about your city's special food

Well, I always envy other cultures, and their interesting cuisines. For the same reason, we have country specific weeks when we go shopping for groceries in my house. I love tasting all sorts of food. But it never misses - when denmark is representet by food its either by a danish (called wienerbrød in denmark) A sweet pastry with either jam, filling or a thin frosting on top...sweet on sweet with sweet. or else its roasted pork with regular and brown potatos (potatos roasted with sugar on a pan), garnished with brown gravy and red cabbage. ( in danish its called flæskesteg, and is usually the favorite christimas or family dinner course)

    Castor city

That is one really beautiful town you got there. I'm just pea-green with envy. Love all the details you got in, and all those builds - wow! I imagine myself never beeing able to stop looking at it from all angles if i had the oppotunity. Great work!
  7. Even though im new to this forum, i would really be unhappy with seeing a like button incorporated here. One of the reasons i joined this forum is, that theres always something going on somewhere in the forums. A short post, telling someone that you like their creation is accepted - even though you yourself dont have much to add to the discussion. I often see creations here that i like, but i dont have either the experience or the knowledge to tell another builder what i would do differently. But i can ask questions about the build, and that way get new ideas to my own creations. Other people might ask different questions, and that way we all learn both from unexperienced and experienced builders. And i dont see the problem with short post such as "great build", "love the design" etc. - perhaps because i myself like to both recieve and give simple appreciation without everything being analyzed to death. Another discussion forum i used to use a lot, got the "like" button. As a result, half the "old gang" quit in protest, and the rest are still back there, liking eachothers more and more shortlined posts. I haven't seen a real discussion in there for more than a year. You post your problem, 2-3 persons answer and the rest just likes the answers. And the answers are focussing on being "funny one-liners" because that gets more likes, than well thought answers that kicks the ball rather than the player. It has basically gone from an interesting, lively forum to a closed backpatting club in a very short time. I would hate to see this place go from what it is today, to a picture collection with one-liners and like hunters.

MOC: From haunted house to small costume shop

Well thank you all :-) I'll look into redoing the attic with a window. At the same time I'll probably redo the roof, since im not all together happy with it as it is now.

MOC: From haunted house to small costume shop

Thank you :-) The original plan was in fact one story higher, but i ran out of bricks that fitted the colourscheme. Thats one of the things i'll look out for on the PAB wall next time im in the store. Theres also some things about the pavement, floors and the entire roof i would like to do differently, so its still a WIP but i'll get there eventually.
  14. Hey all So, finally, I managed to complete something out of my own head instead of a guide. The idea was to take as many elements as possible from the haunted house, and make a costume shop with living space on top. I'm not all together satisfied, but I ran out of both ideas and usable bricks. So, here goes nothing - please be gentle in your critisism. On the first floor we got the horror costume shop On the second floor is the shopkeepers, in my little town thats the fortune teller from the CMF series, apartment The attic is where she can make all her hokus pokus when the shop is closed And lastley theres a view of the building and the entire town on display. I'm kinda convincing my self, that the build is ok - since every town needs something really ugly, to make all the other buldings shine...I'll probably regret that statement some day. /Xeen
