  1. I'm always interested in how people store and sort their LEGO sets and pieces. I've got a pretty meticulous system in place for both sets and pieces, but I'm trying to figure out the best way to store my instructions. How do you store yours? As of right now, I have all of mine in a filing cabinet, but they take up a remarkable amount of space.

Fire elements at Lego Store PAB

They tend to vary, even in areas with multiple stores. But generally, they reflect LEGO.com's pick-a-brick selection, with whatever chosen sampling being offered in any given store.
  3. Former LEGOLAND, California employee. Unfortunately, this is just a carryover blurb they used to describe the Studio Store here over the years. They even had, until very recently, the logo for Batman LEGO sets lining the store walls. So, it's a sign of nothing more than the disconnect between PR and product awareness. Even after all these years, LEGOLAND's retail departments do not take the rabidness of the LEGO fan seriously enough.

    [MOC] T-16 Skyhopper

Ah, I was so genuinely hoping this was going to be a great MOC. I wasn't let down. My Kenner T-16 was one of my most often enjoyed toys as a child. Great, great MOC. I'll be sharing this with friends.
  5. I've browsed around the forums and was unable to see if this topic was addressed but I was wondering if anyone was employed at the LEGO retail stores or LEGOLAND California and could shed some light on what kind of employee discount they receive. I've read that LEGOLAND California employees receive a 30% discount on products. I've mulled over paying the $11 a month to get a 10% discount on PAB and sets, but 30% would be well worth getting a part time job, if it was true. If anyone had an info on this, I'd really appreciate it. When I lived in Los Angeles I asked three employees at the Glendale LEGO Retail Store if they got a discount and each replied, "I guess, I'm not sure." What a waste Thanks in advance.

    Castle Sets 2010

This is great news. I was just thinking the other day how I really enjoyed the battle packs from the Fantasy Era, and how I was really hoping that the new Kingdoms sets would have some. Didn't even have to wait that long to find out. Great find!

    Store Display

The answer on the glue is almost certainly no. It won't come off. Last year LEGO gave me some display models for some work I did for them and portions of the models were glued. I had to dismantle them and toss the bits of LEGO that were glued together in a recycling bin, as there was just no hope for them. And having worked around the model builders at LEGOLAND, I can assure you that when something is glued, it is done so for good. The only glue that is removable is something like Elmer's, which you can soak in water to remove, but LEGO uses nothing akin to this glue. As to the value, perhaps someone would buy them. Things are worth whatever people would be willing to pay. Either way, it's a neat find. Good luck.

    Most Expensive Lego Set

Actually, you're all wrong. The most expensive LEGO "set" (heh heh) would be the LEGO Duck. http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/LEGO_Duck One of, if not the first LEGO product ever made. I'm sure it would sell for a fortune most of us could hardly conceive of here.

    Lego in Aquariums

Sealife Aquarium, adjacent to LEGOLAND, California features many HUGE LEGO models in the tanks with the various animals. So, my assumption would be no and that incorporating the two shouldn't be a problem.
  13. Drawbridge Defense Set #: 7079 Theme: Castle Year Released: 2009 Piece Count: 335 Minifigs: 7 List Price: $39.99 USD So, for me, this was a highly anticipated set. Unlike the King's Battle Chariot this set features figures you can't get your hands on anywhere else. For those who weren't able to scoop up the Castle Advent Calendar you'll finally be able to get your Jester. The Queen and the Gold Knight are entirely new additions to the line, and both are quite impressive in their own right. So, I present to you the first review of the last Castle sets of 2009, #7079 - Drawbridge Defense! This is the front of the box most everyone had seen by this point. On the back we see the Gold Knight apparently failing to secure the queen, who is being escorted away by skeletons. The Jester, in a last ditch effort, is going for the crossbow snipe. And of course, atop the tower we have the historically accurate representation of flick-fire missiles. Another photo prominently features the Gold Knight. Also, I found the artwork on the back to be quite epic and pretty well designed. The water and waterfall going between the tower and bridge were pretty neat looking. On the top of the box we get a look at this sets great figure lineup! Two exclusive figures, and one rare figure, with three skeletons and a Crown Knight make the price tag on this set extremely reasonable. Inside the box we get four bags of parts, and two BURPs. Unfortunately, having made a joke in my last review about the mangled instruction manual, I likely brought on the karma of what this box held. Due to an extremely bent and wadded manual, I was unable to photograph it. But for the point of the review, I will share that the box contains a single manual of average book size with, as one might expect, the usual box art displayed on the front. The initial stage of building will use up the first two bags to construct the base of the main structure and the seven splendid figures in this set. Mixed between the two were all the various parts, rather than having one hold the tower parts and the other hold the minifigure parts. Here's the bad guys in the set. Three skeletons, two white, one black. I honestly have, like most Castle collectors, an abundance of these guys, but I'll always take an extra hood piece and skeletal horse. So all in all, not a bad inclusion. But, here is what most of you came for no doubt. These figures, are in my opinion, absolutely fantastic. I can never have enough Crown Knights, honestly. And though it may seem an odd point to expound on, the Crown Knight in this set need not be added. This siege could have been a one man defense on part of the awesome Gold Knight figure, but TLC no doubt went the extra mile and threw an extra knight in the set. That being said, the Jester is phenomenal, as those who bought the Castle Advent Calendar are aware. The Queen too is an absolutely great figure. Here is a better look at the knight and all the detail he has. Leg printing, a great chest print, armor, helmet, sword, shield, and the plume in his helmet make for one phenomenal figure. And, that's not to mention--- He also has back printing. Next up is the Queen. Another wonderful figure included in this set. All of her details are phenomenal, including--- The detail in her back printing as well as--- That she has a dual sided head. Then there is of course the Jester himself. Initially, I assumed him to be exactly the same as the Jester in the Castle Advent Calendar, except for the fact that he has--- A dual sided face in this set. Which is pretty appropriate for the fact that he's facing a deadly invasion. I could hardly imagine even the most jovial fellow laughing his way to the grave as an army of skeletons march their way into his only safe haven. The bottom half of the tower presents us with nothing noteworthy in terms of building, and the second half of the build gives us the top half, and the connection for the drawbridge, as well as a ramp descending down to ground level. Here is a view of the completed tower with bridge lowered. And here is a view of the tower with the ramp attached and the bridge lowered. And a second view of the entire construction from the side. This is the mechanism for raising and lowering the drawbridge with the technic lever holding the bridge up when raised by wedging between the teeth on the gear. Though I can't recall which sets this mechanism appeared in, it is quite familiar to me and something I can recall building at least a couple of times. Here is a shot of the drawbridge raised up, the moat exposed. "You SHALL NOT pass." A final shot of the completed set with figures in place. In closing, I have to say that any self-respecting Castle fan would have to get this set. The parts are entirely unremarkable, granted, but with a simple modification, this set could easily be incorporated into the King's Castle Siege. The figures in this set make this one impossible to pass up. And at the price tag of only $39.99 USD, 7 figures make it a steal. Remember, the King's Castle Siege only had figures more, but cost an extra $60 USD and those figures sported none of the diversity seen in this set. At the time, the main sell of that set was the King minifigure, but it has been thrown into enough sets as to have saturated the market at this point. I think this set is fantastic, though the construction is for the most part unremarkable. For anyone who has built the Fantasy Era Castle sets up to this point you won't find yourself stunned by innovations in design, as the techniques are nothing new.

    Display Cases

I don't know if they have the store where you are, but, The Container Store sells MANY hobby related display cases of ALL sizes. I've got one that has my whole Fabuland collection on display, and I've even got some that are just bigger than a minifigure, so I've got single figures on display (Chrome Darth Vader, etc.) If they've got a location near you, or ship to wherever you are, that's what I would do.
  15. I sincerely doubt my LEGO collection would be subject to robbery, here in the States. I think reselling it, while lucrative, would be a sincere pain. So I guess the only thing protecting my collection is my insurance agency and the idea that selling would be a lot of work. That and my modest firearms and my obscene ability to hit my mark regardless. Regardless.
  16. I can vouch for the fact that the tank set WAS made, as a prototype at least. It was vetoed by the company though before it could go into production. This has been corroborated by many set designers in different avenues. I either heard about it through work or at one of the panels they did at the conventions. Ultimately I think being a Danish company it was odd to create a Nazi vehicle, even without the obvious references to the Nazi regime. So, obviously given this, there will NEVER be a tank set.

    Printing Errors

Let's just say this, any time I call LEGO up, they answer and greet me by name because I'm always quick to call when I have a problem. When I recently opened my copy of the Town Plan I had sitting in a closet for over a year, I found the sticker sheet was folded in half, and due to this several stickers had come loose and stuck to the inside of the box. There was also a misprint on one of the minifigure heads. I immediately contacted customer service and they replaced both items within a few days. I've had similar experiences with other sets, including the askew R2 heads and I always request a replacement. I spend far too much on LEGO to settle for anything but the best and they have always been extremely kind and quick to serve when I have a problem.
  21. This has been in the works for a while, but I assure you, Merlin has no illusions about competing with Disney. It's beyond David and Goliath, and more like Goliath and a dust mite.
  22. After breaking free from the Agents formidable Mobile Command Center and regrouping with his goons at his secret Volcano Base, Dr. Inferno has decided to go on the offensive with a brazen attack on LEGO City using the plans for his sinister new Robot! In his Robot, he is a formidable foe and a great threat to the denizens of LEGO City. Will the Agents be able to stop him in time? Robo Attack Set #: 8970 Theme: Agents 2.0 Year Released: 2009 Piece Count: 414 Minifigs: 6 List Price: $49.99 USD So, I really had no intention of reviewing these sets when I bought them today, though I couldn't wait to let everyone know they'd shown up already. But it didn't take much persuasion to get me considering doing this review. This is my first review ever on Eurobricks, so I hope it is up to par and that you enjoy the FIRST review of the Agents 2.0 line! Now, on with the show! Firstly, here is a look at the front of the box. And here is a look at the back. And here is a view of the top, showcasing the six great figures that come in this set! And inside is a single instruction booklet and sticker sheet. The first thing you might notice is that the sticker sheet is small, but contains several small stickers. All in all, the build has twenty-two stickers. The second thing you might notice is the typically tremendous level of care and concern in which LEGO has sent us this instruction booklet. Inside of the box there are a total of four parts bags, and as one might expect the build is a modular one. Part 1 The cast of characters and their zany vehicles. This is what we'll be building in this first portion. The usual cast of characters. As far as I can tell, these figures are exactly like their previous incarnations. Except this time it seems Chase has a new set of body armor. Here is a better look at the armor, both front and back views. The citizens, all three with dual sided faces, the back side ripe with terror awaiting the arrival of Dr. Inferno's Robot. "Heeeeeeee's heeeeeerrrrrreeeee...!" Two of the citizen torsos have back printing, which is great. Dr. Inferno's small winged plane. Something tells me he's already cooked up an escape route should this Robot not work out. Agent Chase's quad. The Agents seem to have no short supply of these things. Rear view, with anti-Robot grappling hook. Agent Trace's aircraft. Again, the Agents have no short supply. Part 2 These boots were made for walkin'. And for the second portion, we will construct the legs. Firstly, you construct the two legs as well as the hip area. Next you construct the feet. In the end, you place it all together and get this. This is also about the first time you start seriously smirking and realize you're building an awesome freakin' robot. I suppose the dials on the groin help maintain the environment essential to robot groin physics, as I assume it may be prone to overheating. Part 3 A PhD in Robots and Gauge Reading. \ For part three, we construct the cockpit. Wow! Look at all those dials and gauges. It appears Mr. Inferno got his PhD in gauge reading, as it seems it would take as much education to make sense of this cockpit. Pretty cool looking though, once he is placed inside of it. Both he and his craft are placed inside of it--- And it makes for a snug fit. But not quite as snug--- As this. Part 4 Domo arigato, Dr. Inferno. Now it's time to add those killer weapon arms. An extremely short build later, you lock them in place, and he looks like this. But this is no fun... Ahhhh, much better. Or should I say, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! The model is extremely well balanced and posable. It looks great in person. No offense to whoever takes photographs for LEGO sets, but it seems that yet again, LEGO is a product that cannot be properly captured on box art. In person, this thing looks fantastic! The colors, the design, all of it is just wonderful. This is the arm that has the light brick in it. It's hard to tell here, but I'm actually pushing it. Without the intrusion of the flash on my camera, it actually looks pretty great. Kind of like this, except not nearly as blurry. And lastly, the obligatory shot of the extra stuff. In closing, I have to say, this is a great set. I was most excited for this one out of all the Agents sets. That being said, when I built it, I found it to be even better than I had hoped or expected. Not only is the set hilarious and diabolical, it's fun! As I was building it, I found myself wishing and hoping the Agents line continues past this second wave. The zaniness in it is absolutely fantastic and makes for some really creative sets. The stickers, for the most part, are not difficult to apply, though there are twenty-two of them as I stated before, and most are extremely small. The figures are fantastic. The civilians, with the dual sided faces, make for a phenomenal addition to ANY LEGO City. I have a feeling they'll be turning up time and time again in upcoming MOCs. The parts content, 414, is a little short of the 500 or so I'd expect of a $49.99 set. But in a sense, the 6 figures help ease the pain of the price tag. I hope you enjoyed my first review here at Eurobricks as much as I enjoyed doing it. I hope you take the time to vote on the poll, and can't wait to hear what some of you think when you purchase this set for yourself. Enjoy!
