    A thought about licenses....

Hey, Captain, you and I are about the same age.... I'm 27 and change. I bet our respective first lego sets came from the same batch! For the record, I DO miss the happy little yellow spacemen. Trust me, despite my appreciation of SW Lego, I really do wish there were still a proper "Space" theme to co-exist with it. That would be the best of both worlds!

    STARWARS LICENSE EXTENDED!!!!!

I agree, Star Wars is what re-kindled my interest in Lego. I have really enjoyed collecting the sets, and I don't want to see it go away anytime soon. Plus, if I remember correctly Classic Space wasn't exactly flourishing before Star Wars. Like you said, the NASA sets were kind of a flop, and the stuff before that.... Life on Mars? Bleah!!! Space really hasn't had anything going for it since the Blacktron/Space Police days, in my opinion. If they do ever go back to original Space stuff, it'll be a whooooole lot better thanks to all the pieces and building techniques they developed with Star Wars.

    Toyfair 2006

I'm entering this discussion a little late.... but man, those pictures are awesome! Like someone else mentioned, Batman and Exo-force don't do much for me. Spongebob and Technic are just fine. But I have to say, with MUCH surprise, that the sets I'm most excited about (besides Star Wars) are the KK and Avatar sets! Seeing the Avatar ship from that angle, I love the way the hull is kind of sculpted in the back. And the fact that it looks so sinister and industrial with all that grey. And the KK sets..... wow! I have never cared for the previous KK sets, they seemed an insult to classic Castle. But the new armor designs alone are enough to sell me on this batch. Although, ugh, I could live a happy life never seeing another lego catapult. Anyway, overall I have to say this is a REALLY strong year for Lego.... and it is gratifying to see that they appear to be listening to the fans and cutting way back on the juniorization.

    STARWARS LICENSE EXTENDED!!!!!

Despite rumors that have been floating around, at this point there will not be a final trilogy. While nothing is ever certain, of course, George Lucas has stated very clearly (and repeatedly) that there will not be any more Star Wars movies. If there are, they certainly won't be made by him. Who knows, though..... if the TV show is really successful, anything is possible!

    Slave I Pic-Review

Awesome, thank you Yoda! That's exactly the one! :-D Yeah, I'll have to see how feasible this will be.... but it sure does look good. If I end up modding it successfully I'll definitely try to get some pics! Thanks again, I really appreciate that!

    Slave I Pic-Review

Just got this ship, finally, and I love it. After hanging it next to Jango's and the original, you guys are all totally right about it being head and shoulders above the previous incarnations. It just looks much sleeker, much more unified as a design. I had a question for you guys, though.... a week or two ago I remember seeing a modification someone had done to theirs that made the cockpit look a little swankier. I seem to remember it had kind of a "handlebar" setup, with Boba standing up vertically. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I'm not sure if I saw it on Eurobricks or Brickshelf or somewhere else, but I'd love to track it down again so I can decide if I want to do a similar modification to mine. Thanks very much, everyone!

    New Avatar pics

I'm not a huge fan of these sets either but I would hardly call them useless.... especially the ship, it's solid bricks! Not to mention red castle helmets, nice generic "medieval" torsos, a new female face, etc. I agree with SuvieD, this is really just a Castle parts pack in disguise!

    Spongebob set pics !!!!

Woweeee.... even from the little pics I was a bit ambivalent about these. But these new, bigger pictures sold me. Look at all those classic bricks...... not a *I wanted to say that this set contains a lot of big pieces but didn't want to take the time to write it all, so I used the word "<insert that tiresome argument>" instead* piece in sight. Go Lego.

    Update on UCS Star Destroyer

Ugh..... does this mean I have to get another one just for completeness' sake? ;)

    Spongebob first picture

I like it, I think it looks much better than I expected! I actually like that they used regular old minifig legs for SB.... anything else and it would start not seeming like Lego anymore.

    Future Lego system

I would like to see a sub-theme of "City" with lots of different sorts of minifig-scale automobiles. Not just race cars and emergency vehicles, but sedans, coupes, station wagons, old classic cars and trucks, sports cars, vans, etc. Actually it might be neat to see a whole "Roads" sub-theme that encompassed all things automobile-related.... filling stations, drive-in diners, mechanics, etc. Also, eventually a newly-reinvigorated space theme (as many have said). Take all the great ship-building principles and pieces that Star Wars has spawned, and apply it to a new in-house line of space ships/space stations/moonbases. Focus on making it more exploration-themed, not war-themed, in line with Lego's philosophies.

    The new sets (pics)

Geez, I hope that doesn't mean the ISD is coming out in September. But then, the Interceptor is listed for March, and obviously that's available now.... so maybe the months are off.

Star wars sets we'd like to see

You know, I don't much like playsets either, so I'm glad to hear that Lego isn't fond of them. Since I display my Lego, the "play" features are just useless, silly and usually kind of annoying to me. But why must buildings/locations always be referred to as "playsets?" Why couldn't we just have, you know, an accurate model of a building? They do it with all the other Lego lines (Castle, Town, Pirate, etc.). Why can't we have an Endor Shield Generator Station that actually looks like the movie set? Or a better Jabba's Palace that actually has external walls? Or a Cantina... or a Skywalker Homestead.... or so many others? I would MUCH prefer those to "playsets."

    Aircraft Carrier 1982 style

Wow. Lego has certainly diversified. All those primary colors..... It's cool for the time it was built, but it sure looks dated now!

    A-Wing pic review

Yeah, now that I've got mine as well, I really love this little ship. I take back all the mean things I said about it before, about it not being a very iconic Star Wars craft. I think I was just basing that on the older model. But this new rerelease is so much better, and has since become one of my favorite ships. It looks so snazzy sitting there next to the great new B-Wing and the newer X-Wing. Now let's just get a re-issued Y-Wing so that I can have a whole hangar of cool, updated rebel ships!

    Halo lego

Yeah, geez, what's wrong with you guys? ;) Just kidding. Seriously, don't feel bad about discussing the topic, guys. I can't speak for everyone, but in my case I'm not really genuinely annoyed. :) The fact is, I think we ALL have our pet themes that we would LOVE to see interpreted in Lego. It's just that a) not everyone can agree on them and b) they'll likely never happen anyway so it just becomes frustrating and circular to talk about them.

    Scandanavia Meets Tex-Mex...

Beautiful, very funny vignette. I love the re-interpretation of the viking's facial expression! :)

    My Lego Town

I agree with Hobbes about the hospital.... I have it in pieces, mixed in with everything else (and no doubt scuffed and yellowed), but it's nice to see it all put together again. Brings back some great memories. And man, even though it is an older set it STILL puts the awful "new" hospital to shame....

All PICS of the batman sets!!!

That's what Bricklink is for! :)

    LEGO Superman?

I agree with you, but then, I probably would have said the same thing about Spider-Man a while back. Spider-Man doesn't really have many vehicles to speak of, and its villains are somewhat obscure. But that didn't stop them from making it! I don't really know a whole lot about the Justice League, but it seems like it would be a totally natural fit for Lego. All those characters would make good minifigs, and many could be done with pre-existing parts (Hermione's hair for Wonder Woman, a Forestman cap for Green Arrow, etc.). Although, hmmm, Wonder-Woman's invisible jet might pose some design challenges..... :)

    Airport Pic Review !!

Yeah, you know, that's really the only big disappointment to me about this set.... the lack of runways. More minifigs would've been nice, too. But an airport without runways is just sad.

Ohhhhh, now THAT's good news...... :oD

    LEGO Star Wars from 1992...

Fantastic! Some of his ships are spitting images for the official versions that Lego later made themselves..... poor fellow was ahead of his time! I REALLY like the way he did Yoda. I have often wished Lego's version was more like that, with the standard minifig-shaped head. Booooo to too-realistic molded heads!

    Airport Pic Review !!

Thanks for the great review, Yoda! I guess I can understand why some people don't care for this set.... it does look a little more modern and "chilly" than classic Town stuff. But personally, I love it. It evokes many airports I've been in (I especially love the walkway to the plane). Maybe it's just 'cause I do a lot of flying, but the Lego airports have always been among my most-loved sets. This one is no exception!
