Best and worst Lego set of the 2000's

Similar to the topic creator, I have to give it to this set. I hadn't really been paying attention to Lego since I was very young, but I saw this a couple of times, and thought I might as well get it since it's cheap. It's not exactly the best model ever, and I know some people dislike the Clone Wars minifigs, but it's a great starting set and it's the one that got me into the whole thing. I also finally managed to track down this set recently for a reasonable price, and I think it's pretty much perfect. Neat little playset with sliding doors, turrets, etc.. a nice ship and a great collection of minifigs. It also combines brilliantly with the new Echo base set, and the upcoming Hoth battle packs. I can't really think of a worst.. I'm tempted to say the Venator for being almost half the size of the Star Destroyer, more expensive and with much less and less cool minifigs. But it's mainly due to the price, so I'm not sure that counts. The Spider Droid is definitely one of the least appealing sets, its only reedeming feature is the Commander Fox.

Yavin IV sounds interesting, that would make a very cool set. But it also sounds like the book doesn't include any of the 2009 sets.

    Rewatching the Clone Wars

Good to see more of these, again, I pretty much agree with everything you've been saying about the show. The Gungan General inparticular confused me a lot, at the end of the previous episode it shows Anakin and Obi-Wan switching their drinks to avoid being drugged, yet the next episode completely ignores that. Was there ever any sort of explanation for that? Being in the UK, I can't watch any of those special commentaries or anything on the official website. I also have to point out that allow begining in the middle of the action can be a great technique.. I don't think it worked so well here, it only made me feel like I'd missed an episode, and actually had to stop it a few minutes in, just to go and make sure I didn't.

LEGO Star Wars 2009 Sets and Rumours

I feel we're getting a little off topic here, but the EU isn't 100% canon. It's simply EU canon.. The movies always take a higher priority and as Clone Wars was created by George Lucas, it sits on the same level as canon along with the movies. I think it's generally accepted that things that happen in the EU are canon, but their subject to be overwritten by anything that happens in the movies, Clone Wars or the upcoming live action TV show. I know there are a lot of hardcore fans out there that would massively disagree with that, but Lucas himself doesn't consider the EU to be canon at all, so the fact things like Clone Wars hasn't already undone a lot of events from the EU is purely because some of the writters on it happen to have the respect for it that Lucas doesn't. I actually wasn't aware of that at all, but my point still stands. It hasn't been available since 2005, and it was a popular ship. Also, they've said Season 2 won't follow a linear path, and will be jumping all over the timeline, so there's still no reason we couldn't see some episodes featuring the ARC fighters. I'm not really a fan of this idea, and I'm not sure how much it's going to jump around, but I do think it'd be cool to see the Phase II's and Jedi interceptors, etc make an appearence.

LEGO Star Wars 2009 Sets and Rumours

Probably because they are (or will be) featured heavily in the Clone Wars, and the Arc fighter especially is one of the most popular ships. They haven't been available to buy since 2005 and not everyone has been collecting Lego for as long as that, I welcome a new version of it and I'm sure many kids who've only just got into it because of the Clone Wars will too.

C-3P0, please? He was in the speeder the whole time, there's no reason not to include him as well.

I noticed this few days back.. They've been constantly pushing the date back everytime it nears release, and now it's gone completely. Guess we're not getting it. Surprise, surprise.

The trailer for Season 2 did show several scenes with the Snow Clones again.

What licensed themes will end next year?

Anakins Y-Wing is based on the Clone Wars design, it's not the same ship that was released before from the movies. Although they are re-releasing a lot of older sets, Clone Wars is basically giving them a never ending supply of new things they can continue to release along side those remakes, and pretty soon we'll have the live action TV show, which will no doubt introduce a lot of new things as well. I don't see the Star Wars line ending anytime soon, it just sells too well, and there's a massive amount of different things they can do with it. And for people like me, who've only recently started collecting the sets (I think my oldest set is the 2007 Naboo Starfighter) I certainly don't mind seeing them remaking older sets, especially as the newer ones tend to be done a lot better. I say bring on a new Sail Barge, B-Wing and Slave 1, alongside things like the Malevolence from Clone Wars.

A new Arc Fighter would be very cool, and I'd love to get a Landspeeder, hopefully 3PO is included this time.

Those clearler pictures just make it look even more like the sets are from Clone Wars. The only thing making it look like OT is the orange jumpsuit, but as was posted a few pages back, one of the new bounty hunters wears something very similar. I don't see why the Stormtroopers would come with a taun-taun, but I could see the Clones using them at some point.

    Rewatching the Clone Wars

So he was caught by surprise in every episode he's been in? According to Episode III, Grievous has been pwning the Jedi "at every turn", yet according to the Clone Wars, they've been easily fending him off. The one episode where he didn't come across as a total joke was the one with Kit Fisto, and even then, he didn't exactly do a good job. So far this has been one of my only complaints with the series, and I'm guessing it's why they've decided to focus on other new villians in the second series. Anyway, these are great summaries, looking forward to seeing more.

The tall legs looks great for Woody, but using them for Star Wars characters would just look.. odd.

    New TFU sets?

A few more minifigs from the game might be kind of cool, but again, I think they'd struggle coming up with more actual sets to base it around, I don't really think it needs to be done. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more EU sets, but I think it's best if they mainly stick to the movies and Clone Wars. I would love to see a few based on the Old Republic, and perhaps Jedi Knight, just because I want a Lego Kyle Katarn :)

    LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4

Yeah, this whole thing was simply mind boggling. After the sucess of the Lego Star Wars and Indiana Jones games, surely Lego should have known the Batman game would give a surge in popularity to the Lego play sets.. and that's exactly what happened, but for some reason they discountinued the line just before the game was releasing, forcing people to pay hundreds for them.. it's just crazy. Lego have already said there's no plans to make more sets, so it just seems like it's all been very badly co-ordinated. Once the game is out, there's going to be a huge demand for the sets again, why they don't even just re-release the old ones is beyond me. But as for the actual game.. I can't say I'm too excited, I'm not much of a Harry Potter fan and although I'm sure it'll make a great game, who would buy it when we know there's going to be a years 5-7 and then a combined one shortly after?

Are there plans to make more Harry Potter sets?

Sorry, but no.. There's a lot of filler that could easily be left out. It's two movies for exactly the same reason the Hobbit is two movies, and it's nothing to do with the length of the books.

LEGO Star Wars 2009 Sets and Rumours

Really pleased with the Tantive IV, it looks great and it has a much better selection of minifigs than I was expecting. Especially great to finally see a new C-3P0, I was expecting him to be left out in favour of Vader. Love the Comic-Con exclusives too, particularly the Stormtrooper Luke/Han one and the Jedi Luke/Ackbar one. Don't suppose there'll be any way for the rest of us to get those little sets though. Too bad, as I've always felt they should sell little minifig sets like this!

    Space Police 2009!

Not a huge fan of the Pit Stop, but the little vehicles it comes with are very cool, I'd say it's probably worth it for those alone. Still no word on a release/price for the Max Security Transport though?

LEGO Star Wars 2009 Sets and Rumours

The cockpit on the blockade runner alone shows that it isn't midi scale. The mid Falcon has a very basic piece used as the cockpit, where as here it's very large, transparant and very clearly opens out to seat mini-figs. I look forward to more midi scaled ships, but this definitely isn't one. As for the battle packs.. I think I'd probably prefer they were Clone Wars, although I know that would annoy a lot of the OT fans. Hoth packs would go really well with the Echo Base, but then why did they discontinue the Hoth Base set? All of them together would have added up to something really cool, but if you missed the limited run of the Hoth Base, it's all a bit pointless.

I definitely see Dengar there as well, he's just holding a gun up. The body looks more grey, and it does look like a white wrap around his head, rather than a Snow helmet. But it's faaar too low quality to say for sure either way.

Petition for the resell of Lego Star Wars parts

I don't remember this being confirmed, but at the same time, I don't see why they wouldn't. They make a lot of money from the Star Wars sets, and even if they run out of new sets by 2011, they can go back and do a lot of the older sets that newer fans won't have, like the X-wing, Jabba's Sail Barge, Slave 1, etc. It's an almost infinite cycle that I'm sure they'll keep going until it's no longer profitable.

LEGO Star Wars 2009 Sets and Rumours

Not necessarily, the book will of course only have sets up until a certain point, and if the set hadn't been made yet, or was only a prelim, I very much doubt it would have been included, and it's unlikely they'd go back and add it in, once everything was finalised.
