[MOC] Sandrail Twins (RC and manual)
Doc_Brown replied to HorcikDesigns's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
These look sweet! I like the DBG panels better tho. Looks like youtube screwed with your video, the frames jump around for me. The same thing has happened to some of my videos as well. -

Doc_Brown replied to Doc_Brown's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I agree, there is virtually no difference regarding contact with the ground. But thanks for your comment! Thanks man! After all this time I finally finished a buggy! haha.- 34 replies

[MOC] Deadly Nightshade Offroad Buggy
Doc_Brown replied to Doc_Brown's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hahaha My mate drove it today, straight into a fence, took the front wheel clean off! 3 clicks and its back on with no damage! It does slow down a bit offroad, so may need to think about gearing it down a bit.- 34 replies

Tire 13 x 24 compound
Doc_Brown posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hey everyone. With regard to the new Model Team contest It occurred to me to ask about the tire 13 x 24 (Item No:2696) As you may be able to see from the pics below there is two different compounds these tires came in. Grippy one on LEFT (note the dip on the outside), Older one on Right. (Sorry for the dirt, haven't been used in like 20 years!) I'm sure I received set 8210 as a kid and it had a much softer compound tires that noticeably grip on smooth surfaces. In light of the coming contest this is of no importance, but if one was building a small drifter the difference would be noticeable. And as I have only one of these "grippy" versions, I wonder how would you order them from BL knowing you will get the softer or harder compound? http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=8210-1 I'm guessing the only sure way is to buy 8210 NEW! haha, or just ask the seller, hoping they don't think you are crazy. But I'm curious to know what others think. Visually the grippy ones appear poorer in quality too with slight deforms. Most noteworthy for identifying them apart is the grippy ones have smoother insides. Putting rims inside doesn't remove the "dip" on the outside either. -
[MT] Technic Model Team Contest - Information Topic
Doc_Brown replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm unsure if digital should be allowed or not. There are good reasons for both yes and no. Whats tipping me towards yes now, is after studying model team models for the last hour (I have never owned a MT set), I can see there are a lot of pieces most people wont have! Like doors and windows ect. I would suggest if digital is allowed, to have strict rules on renders, such as if someone submits a screen-grab of their awesome MOC from LDD it won't look half as good as a full render from POV-ray. I think that it would be reasonable to ask all renders be done with POV-ray, even if that means you have to learn how to use it (should only take an afternoon). That would level the field in terms of those that have a truck load of real system parts to build with and all those that entry digitally. Anyways just my opinion.- 184 replies

Another contest!!! No rest for the wicked eh? I'm looking forward to seeing all these entries, the model team theme can be interrupted a few different ways. Like going old school studded or more modern curves and tile. Very generous with the prizes Jim! Awesome.- 184 replies

MOC Older Small Rv
Doc_Brown replied to Chapachuk's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
WOW! I love it! Such a cool cartoony feel to it. Nice details tho I do wonder if this is Model team? Any Technic functions? Who would have thought that old scratched parts could look so good and give so much character. Amazing Moc. You've inspired me to make something with crazy proportions! -

[MOC] Deadly Nightshade Offroad Buggy
Doc_Brown replied to Doc_Brown's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for your question! To answer in one word, No, but that is on purpose. I wanted it to absorb all the energy when it crashes into things, and it does quite a good job of it. No they are dark blue from 41999. If you may recall mine were kinda abused at the expo last year and have plenty of scratches on them already, so no need to hide their beauty! Thanks for the suggestion, but seems fine without gearing. the hubs are mounted to the motors so no weight is on motor gearing part either. I can't wait to make a vid for you guys!!!- 34 replies

Technic 2014 Discussion and Speculation
Doc_Brown replied to Tacker's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
How do VIP points work when buying new sets? I brought 2 41999 so I don't know how many VIP points that gets me, havn't logged in since then! 41999 are the only sets I have ever brought from Lego shop. What is everyone's thoughts on just buying the new parts from bricklink ect? Like red panels, new bucket ect? -

[MINI] Technic Mini Build Contest - Results Topic
Doc_Brown replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you so much! Congratulations to super-jaschka and Jeroen Ottens and all the other amazing entries. This has been an awesome contest, with heaps of original concepts coming through and has been a blast to be part of. I didn't think I stood a chance as many people pointed out it is quite a complicated Moc, which isn't the target audience, and also it isn't a car of any kind which I thought would be most popular. I'm sad to see the bike go, as that was my favorite, and actually contemplated building one very similar to that for this competition, a GT tho, which has different rear suspension. Many thanks must go to Jim and Alasdair and everyone else that helped with organizing this competition! Great job! -

[MOC] TATRA T815 TP 6x6 Trial Truck
Doc_Brown replied to HorcikDesigns's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I Love Tatras! Great job! I really like how the axles are not aligned on these things. Check out my attempt below https://flic.kr/p/kZtJCa Would that be legal in one of your trial comps?
