Love the 3D skull! With Pirates returning soon I bet we can look forward to many more fantastic Pirate MOCs

Yes, very much so. Why isn't there a store in the DFW area? That's a bigger market than Houston, I would think. Or Maybe they could compromise and put one in Waco, exactly halfway between Dallas and Austin? Hey, I can dream, right?

Sets with sorted bags; worth the extra expense?
Cameron_Talley replied to Siegfried's topic in General LEGO Discussion
If it's under 1000 pieces or so, unsorted is fine. I enjoy looking for that one exclusive piece (and can I just add that I also build on carpet and don't see what the problem is with it?) in the huge pile when I'm building a set. The bags are usually sorted by piece size anyway (large pieces together, small greeblies together, etc). Now, if it's a large set, I'd much rather have modular construction/presorted bags. Then it's like building three or four different sets, instead of dumping them all in one piece. But within those modules it's fine with me if it's unsorted. I do understand the unsorted frustration, though. When I was younger and didn't have my loose lego sorted in tackle boxes, it was all in one big huge bin. Let me just say that it's a pain in the butt looking for that rare-colored 1x2 plate when you need it....re-building some sets used to take hours... -
CONTEST: Pillage the Village - Terms & Conditions
Cameron_Talley replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
I know this is using "System Pirates" only (I.e. no space pirates) but what about the victims? I don't have any Pirate-era imperial figs, only a few pirates. Can we have the pirates pillage modern day folks or figs from another theme? -
New 2009 Pirates Sets - NEW closeups of the wench & mermaid added
Cameron_Talley replied to the enigma that is badger's topic in LEGO Pirates
Not the sets are not out. However, Lego pricing tends to follow the same pattern, so we can generally assume that $5.95 will be the price for the impulse sets. -
Whats the BEST deal you ever found?
Cameron_Talley replied to Iced's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The Wife of a friend of mine works for PFS web, the company that handles some of Lego's online store stuff. She doens't work with the Lego side directly but occasionally mingles with the people that do. Anyway, they had a charity auction for Special Olympics and one of the items up for bid was a UCS Star Destroyer. So my friend wondered if I wanted to bid on it, and I told him $100. Much to my surprise, I won! I haven't gotten it yet, but it's MISB and I paid 1/3 off retail for it. 3000 pieces of LEGO, here we come! -
An easy way is to make yourself a simple light box. go to home depot and get some work lights (about 9.99 a piece) You want 250W lamps or more, the brighter the better. Then, take a big cardboard box and cut out the sides. Cover this with lighter weight white paper and shine your lights through it. Then take another sheet of white paper and place it in the box so that it forms a curve. You want the setup to look like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cameron_talley/417065958/ and here is the result (Sorry, don't have a Lego example!) http://www.flickr.com/photos/cameron_talley/417066095/ You can play around with the angle of the lights, weight of the paper, etc to get some interesting results.

The best sailing ship outside the Pirate theme
Cameron_Talley replied to oo7's topic in LEGO Pirates
I must be the only one that likes the Flying Time Vessel. :D Seriously, as an actual ship, it's kind of a tie between the emperor's ship and the Viking Ship for me. The viking ship is a neat set but the construction leaves a bit to be desired...it's kind of flimsy. The Emperor's ship is a nice little set with some great pieces and great details... But of the sets listed, I actually like the Flying time Vessel the most. Call me crazy but I really like the time Cruisers line and wish it had taken off--so many possibilities that were unexplored. As a sci-fi geek growing up most of the time I played with Lego, the theme would revolve around time travel anyway... -
The biggest Prize Pool in AFOL fansite history?
Cameron_Talley replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
Been "lurking" these boards for quite some time but decided to register just for this! (Hopefully recent registries are eligible!). I missed out on the Pirate theme the first time around, but I'm really excited about the new 2009 line and can't wait to see what kind of MOCs you guys come up with (and might be inspired to build my own!)
