More updates! I completed the figurehead for my ship. She is holding a key and a sword. I need to come up with a good story for that. Ideas? Also, I think I want to go with the version without a face. Looks more like a carving then a minifig that way I think. What do you guys think? Because of the color of the stern, I wanted to change the color blocking on the sides. Here is the results...(man I am going slow with this build.) I have been reading Patrick OBrian's Far Side of the World. Great book! I highly recommend it to you guys. It's amazing how much I have been getting into 17th and 18th century sailing lately!

Good work so far. I will be looking forward to seeing more.

Man I have been waiting to see this thing completed and you don't disappoint! She is a beautiful vessel! The whale is fantastic as well! Great scene with great action!

Just a quick little update. I have started work on the stern. The red frame will be yellow and the gold shutters will be white. a line of yellow hinge bricks along the bottom. The sides will have those little curved topped windows in the same colors with some flourishes. Thoughts?

"Phantom or no, Lucky Jack will have her." Seriously though, your dedication to a project such as this is impressive to say the least. Very inspirational. Now I must get back to work on my own ship!

Would you open a MISB SYSTEM Pirate set?
RocketSeason replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
There was a time when I would have said "Open it" if I had gotten my hands on a BSB. But now that the new line is out, and I have been fortunate enough to acquire a bunch of new pirate stuff, I must say I have changed my mind. I want the BSB badly, but I would display the box. never open. -
Great way to test techniques for your new ship. I know that progress on mine has been going slow because I am doing alot of this stuff for the first time. The canvas sails look fantastic. What type of material did you use and where did you purchase it at?
-
Super great tests! Some suggestions though. Be sure you have locked down everything. The camera, the base plates, etc. You will be amazed at how much having a steady background and camera adds to the shots. I suggest purchasing a cheap tripod for the camera and (if your camera allows) a remote for initializing the shot. That way you can lock your camera off and never have to touch it. Double sided tape works well for base plates, and taping off the area directly around the base plate will give you a good reference to determine if it shifted at all while you were moving the figure around. Keep it up! good work so far!

Congrats on the new camera. and the new vig!

Quick question, how was the ballast used in ships of the time. Did it help prevent capsizing?
-
I gotta go with Privateer hired to rid the Caribbean of pirate scum.
-
Awesome. I also have questions about the sails. I bought the Brickbeards Bounty and have started work on my own brig. I know that I am going to have to address the custom sail issue sooner or later.

I know this is an older thread, but I had to just comment on it and let you know just how cool I think this ship is. It's a beauty! Proof that small ships can be just as fun to look at as their bigger brothers!

Pillage the Village Voting - LARGE DIVISION
RocketSeason replied to WhiteFang's topic in Pirate MOCs
#1 36. Lord King of Everything - Die for the King! #2 32. SirNadroj - The Pillaging of Neptune's Noggin Lagoon #3 20. AL FREDDO - The Atrocity Island These were all great MOCs. I never had a chance to finish my large entry, but I can tell it would have been stiff competition! The ship in the Lord King of Everything is absolutely amazing, but so is SirNadroj's ship. And Al Freddo's entry was so different from others and so well crafted! Great work on a great contest everyone! I am looking forward to pillaging more villages with all of you in the near future! Pirates are back baby! -
I think fantasy elements would be excellent for the pirate line. Excellent in that it will probably boost sales and bring a lot of young people into the Pirate scene. So long as the two major opposing forces remain pirates and imperials, I think it would fit well with the LEGO pirate "tradition". If you don't want a sea serpent attack, don't buy it.

I really love this ship. The color is great the scene is awesome. Looks very much like a model.
