Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here

Ah... that depends a lot on what you like. Do you like the OT better than the PT? Are you a Rebels-fan? Did you play TOR? Etc. Just going by the set, the MTT is amazing: it is a very clever build that looks good as a model, capturing the looks and having an imposing presence, and it has well designed play features (and a lot of them). You also get a lot of droids and nice minifigs. But if you don't care for the PT at all, you probably like other sets better. The Jedi-Defender class cruiser is retired already, so its price will go up and buying it sooner than later will save you money. I am not too impressed by the play features, but the model is ok, and the minifigs are probably the greatest draw. If you like TOR, I think it is a good buy. And you could regret not having bought it now in a few months when the price goes up. (It happened to me actually...). The Ghost + phantom are not really my cup of tea, although I like the show a lot. They both disappoint in play-features and model, but the minifigs are very good. Especially since we will not see any new Rebels sets soon, I would give it a chance if you like the show. If not I recommend to pass it. I would not buy the ISD. It is an iconic vehicle and the model looks ok from the outside. But if you open it up, it actually offers a very small space, which is cluttered with ugly technic elements and just looks horrible. Its only big plus (besides being iconic) is the minifig selection. All of them are great and either exclusive or very hard to get otherwise. However there is one exception: you only get the outdated Vader. I know many people like this set, but it really disappointed me. I cannot comment on the Tyrdirium, but you may consider the Final Duel set. It is a bit in the spirit of the Palpatine's Arrest set and offers great minifigs. -

Interesting... I can imagine they retired the Micro-ISD because of the outdated cap (at least I hope so ), and the V-Wing probably did not sell well. It is a blink-and-you-miss vehicle, from only one movie, without notable minifigs. I was not aware that quick retirements are so common. Looks good! -
Well I think it is excellent photography! I would surely like to see more.

Droid Tri-Fighter. I am not too exited about it, but it is the most cost effective way of getting this Palpatine. (And I have a feeling it will retire soon).
-
The Gunships (LAAT, Droid, Police). They all translate very well into Lego and make nice impressions as models as well as toys.
-
I agree that the Balrog would be a cool build, but I already have Gandalf(s) and Boromir. I lack an Eowyn and an armoured Witch-King. If Lego wants to go with old prints and parts, they can do the Balrog and I would certainly buy it.
-
If it is really 99,99€ as some sites claim, it is positively overpriced for 660 parts and 4 minifigs. The Tydirium has the same price but comes with 937 parts and 5 minifigs; the MTT has 3 minifigs, 7 droids, and 954 parts for the same price as well.

In the film it looks more like brown to me, but really - that is nitpicking. I have seen various interpretations, like brown, tan, orange, and everything in between. You can clearly see why lego chose this orange colour. However the black is puzzling me, too.

Just because it is Minas Tirith, it does not automatically sell well even with LotR-fans. I would love a Gondorian set, but I don't see myself buying that particular Ideas-set. It was discussed before, and I am in the camp of the people who think it is mis-scaled. Minias Tirith as Lego Architecture-set - yea! Main Gate with Grond - yea! (plus wall segments sold seperately). Citadel of MT - yea! The whole city on minifig scale - big nay. I supported the idea, but only to show Lego that I am still interested in Tolkien-stuff. But the last thing we need is Lego daring to make a bold move and release a big Tolkien-set ... only to see it fail. I think it would be more sensible thinking of a Tolkien-set in the 50€ price range. A big, brick build fell beast for example.

This may be the wrong thread, but I only noticed now that the 2014 Vulture Droid is already retired! It has only been a year. How could that happen? Was it selling so badly? -
Padme and Sabe would have made an interesting pair, but I still have hope we someday see the Royal Starship with Olié, Padme, and Sabe. Curiously though, they shoehorned her into the Gungan Sub. She could be easily put in any of the 2015 TPM sets without looking weird. But the lack of Padme-Minifigs is also the result of Lego refusing to make sets in which she'd be present: Theed, Royal Starship(s), Senate... A screen accurate colour scheme. The Bloodfin had a dark grey shell and orange seat colours. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Bloodfin_%28speeder%29 Still a bad build, though.

Thank you! @ duboismerci, it is around 138 parts. It could be reduced a little, though, without losing much in appearance. Well, yes, it would have been nice, but it is not a deal breaker. But they could have printed the ridge of the Captain's helmet: http://threads.rebelscum.com/photogallery/data/500/medium/IMG_09854.JPG ... and arm printing, but that is really nit picking now.

[REVIEW] 75088 Senate Commando Troopers {Part I}
Flieger replied to Hwlooahdfsjl's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thanks for the review! I would like to read your opinions on the set. A little advice: your pictures are a bit too small. A width of 800 is pretty good to view on this forum, and perhaps better suited for review purposes. -

That really looks a lot better!

I finally took some pictures. I think the Mandalorian Speeder is a nice vehicle for the Senate Commandos when escorting a VIP. The cannon's basics are 100% unchanged. I started by removing the red parts, then added some parts here and there... and in the end, it looks more menacing (although I still need to work on the legs - I'd appreciate tips ):

This may be a stupid question... but does Lego ever announce the death of a line? I mean I love the Tolkien-stuff, it brought me back to Lego after all and I hope for more, but it is heartbreaking to wait for more sets that never come - while Lego teases us with CGI characters... So couldn't they just say it is over, instead of keeping me on the edge?
-
I did modify the cannon of the BP to good effect, I think. When the sun is so kind to actually shine a bit in my country, I'll post some pictures. It is amazing how well the cannon's mechanics work when you beef up the build. I consider the build of this BP a mere sceleton for us to improve. That is the beauty of Lego. We can do it rather easily. So do I! Although I do have some 501st troopers already, because they were available when I came out of my dark age. And I had to get them all. Don't get me started on the lack of Rebels's sets! I can understand why Lego does not do more TCW sets, but Rebels is currently running and deserves a better line-up. But that is probably off topic...

I don't think there is anything wrong with letting personal opinion affect the review. It is about your personal feelings after all. Even though there are a few objective criteria like price-to-parts ratio, in the end we decide with our hearts. I for one like the very idea of the Senate Commandos, their design (I am a classicist - guess what I like about it! ) and how Lego recreated them. So for me personally this set is very important, especially since the previous releases were before I rediscovered Lego. While it is perfectly understandable that people want, say, a 501st BP more than the Senate Commandos, we have to remember it is not a competition. It's not like Lego had to choose between a 501st and a SC BP... at least I don't think so. I really hope it is not, but I am afraid you are right. Perhaps between all the sequels, there will be a place for future TCW sets.

I agree with these sentiments entirely. I hope the microfighter line continues; it would be a great opportunity to introduce clone commanders (Cody, Fox, Wolffe etc.), non-droid Seperatists, or generally figures we may not get otherwise. The cute builds are a nice bonus, but I must admit I usally disassemble them quickly and reuse the parts...

Thanks for the review! Other than the stud-shooters I have not much to complain about. Even the cannon can be easily modified, I think. I will try this weekend. I think it is important to say that the printing is totally different compared to the old figures. Of course they both base on the same source, so they naturally look similar, but the take on this source material is notably different. I am not sure if it is really better except for the leg printing obviously. Recently I rewatched TCW, and I noticed how many Senate Commandos there were. Even in Season 6 they could be seen fairly prominently (considering they are background characters). I like the design so I am happy we got them. While the timing of the set is indeed a bit strange, there are a few Lego sets benefitting from them: Palpatine's Office first and foremost, but also the Coruscant Police Gunship and the Mandalorian Speeder with their Blue&Grey colour schemes. If Lego had released more PT playsets like Palpatine's Arrest, there'd be more sets for them... But hey, you can build them. The biggest problem is that we don't have Senators to protect! There is a youtube review calling it the worst of the worst BPs, arguing there'd be other sets more desired (like 501st clones). But this wave has been full of exotic choices: Shadow Troopers and Geonosis Troopers are both non-canon and I personally don't care for them, although I do understand that people like them for their looks. Actually, my choice for a "better" BP instead of the Senate Commandos would be the Senate Guard: 2x TPM/AotC-style and 2x RoTS-style... and perhaps even TCW-style.

Thank you, good idea! I hope I can get this pilot for a reasonable price somewhere... Agreed. Non-Droid Seperatists are quite rare, especially from TCW. I'd love to have a Neimoidian officer e.g. -

How can I make a Vinis Valorum TCW-minifig? Is it even possible without custom parts? The torso is what worries me and I hope there is an Lego torso which at least resembles this tunic. http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140914220905/starwars/images/4/47/Valorum_Yoda_The_Lost_One.png -
Thanks for the review! I like the swamp speeder of the Kashyyyk BP better, but I agree it is a fine little build.
-
Thanks a lot! I like picture reviews and since they are about to die (it seems) I am happy about every one we get. I am feeling a bit stupid that I wasted so much money on the polybag back then, but that is my fault alone. However what I could blame lego for is the choice of a Hailfire droid for a set of this size. Perhaps other buildable droids would have been better...
