Okay yeah, you definitely don't understand BIONICLE.

If you think people liked the '01 era because of the words then you really don't understand BIONICLE.

Sounds more like you're complaining that they aren't pandering to you, specifically. You are not being "excluded" from anything. The fact that your fancies aren't the ones being tickled yet is a really vain reason to write off the whole thing, even more so when you describe it as "excluding" you.

If you're willing to write off the entire line based on one wave of sets that haven't even been released yet, then okay. Bye! No point in arguing any more than it was arguing with the people who thought they knew everything about The Legend Reborn from the teaser trailer. Or thought they knew everything about how Hero Factory was going to be from vague leaked shop descriptions.

I'd thought of the mask-over-mask thing before, but never bothered to bring it up because I didn't really have a basis for it. I thought it could be the reason for the earmuffs all the sets seem to have. I still consider it a possibility. The fact is that I really don't know how the masks attach because none of the images we have can really tell us yet.

The Axalara T9 set and Rockoh T3 set included a Lewa and Pohatu figure, respectively.

I figured the new red ones might not be more Infernites, but I didn't really have any way of knowing. Glad that they're continuing to expand beyond the initial tribes.

The spiders look interesting. Wasn't expecting them to be masks. Good thing these aren't confidential then.

It might vary between them. Crystal Beast may be the only Crystal Beast. The saber-toothed tiger was one of the most vicious of all the prehistoric carnivores.

I don't think the ability to create a world is as much of a hurdle as you're making it seem.

In terms of a prequel, there's a possibility that it could be set way before anything. The "Toa Mata" of 2015 could be the in-story inspiration for the original six. It could build the basis for the '01-'10 story without being directly tied to it. It would still be limiting, but not so much as to take all the suspense or mystery out of it.

Then why keep tacking on more five years after the fact? Why not start a new story to keep the current one preserved as it is? It is being restarted to make money. BIONICLE ended back in 2010, and now it looks like a new BIONICLE line is coming in 2015. Whether or not it's "making more money" is irrelevant to how the story is told or what story is told. I could just as easily say "they don't need to keep adding to the same story to make more money". The writers, of course, are a bit of a factor when it comes to determining how well a story is told. But this also has nothing to do with whether or not said story is a continuation of previous material. I could just as easily say "if the writers are skilled, it means that you can enjoy a fresh start every once in a while". None of the arguments you made logically follow to "… and that's why reboots are bad." I think it's just the nostalgia talking.

No, only slightly different. Same basic statement behind both. "Reboots are bad." >Star Wrek: Lens Flares Are Not the Same Thing As Plot >The Amazingly Poor Role Model Spiderman >Star Wars VII: The Disney Empires Strikes Down Thirty Years of Beloved Fandom Frankly I don't get why some people (including you) are so against the idea of a reboot. What's so terrible about a completely clean slate when the story starts again? Is it really worse than heaping more and more material on top of the 10 years of canon we have already?

I don't get why "reboot" is being taken to mean "tell the exact same story again".

    Bionicle 2015 Discussion

BIONICLE had way more than that in its first years, though (years plural, not just at launch). There were van tours, full video games (both released and not), big sweepstakes, movies, and many other things with a larger presence in addition to comics, books, web games, etc. The fact that the search results are only recorded back to 2005 (BIONICLE's fifth year, after two movies, several PC/console games, and many other consistent media releases) leaves us unable to compare how one started to the other. Also, Ninjago absolutely dominates both for search queries, no doubt in part because it has a popular show on a major kids' network; the kind of thing that may cause someone to turn to Google for more information rather than simply walk up to it on a shelf and buy it.

Yeah, the Google thing has been brought up before (on BZP I think) as an example of why BIONICLE was better than Hero Factory, and I believe the general consensus was that Hero Factory simply has less media presence that would translate into Google searches. Search numbers aren't sale numbers, after all.
